2. A sucky player doesn't last as long at a big club like man utd like beckham does. If you want to talk about average or bad players at man utd think about barthez, neville, silvestre, frolan, etc., etc.
Did you just answer you own questions with your own statement? Neville was in ManU as long as Beckham Let me guess, do you live in England or any where in the Far East or maybe in the States? B/C you sure rate Beckham as high as the likes of Rui Costa, Rivaldo, Redondo, ZZ, Baggio, Zannetti, and Figo. Sure he won all those awards, but like I siad b4, he played for ManU and he is their poster boy. Wes Brown Nicky Butt and the Neville Brothers won the same team awards as Beckham, r u going to start saying that they are World Class Players too? BTW I did not only mentioned Strikers, most of the people I mentioned were midfielders like your beloved Beckham. With the exception of Battigol and Sheva, they were all attk-midfielders/keyman to their team. But since you say that Beckham is World Class in his position, then I must remind you that, if you are going to be that specific about it, right midfielders/Right Wing, then some of the truly world class player in that position are Figo, Hakan Sas, Cafu, Pires, Zanntti, Aimar and maybe even Rui Costa and Ballack, since they play as an out and out attk-midfielder. I would not rate Joanquin or Ronaldino as world class yet, b/c they still have not proven that they are consistent enough yet. Honestly, you take away Beckham's fame and his poster boy looks, he is just an average player that fit perfectly into the system that he plays for. Not superstar who can adapt and play well in any type of system. |

I never even mentioned Figo and ZZ. Futher the players you name in ur post were baggio, rui costa, batistuta, sheva, rivaldo, totti and maradona who either play as a striker or a 'nr 10' and not as a right winger.
The (right?) wingers you mention are Figo, Hakan Sas, Cafu, Pires, Zanntti, Aimar, Rui Costa and Ballack. Of which Hasan Sas and Ballack don't belong in such a list and Aimar and Rui Costa are central players. Cafu and Zanetti are more attacking wingbacks like R.Carlos. The list I keep then is: Figo, Beckham (added him myself), Pires. You got a point with the neville brothers, personally I also don't get why they stayed for so long in that team. Then again, they don't have the same status like beckham has at man utd and they aren't even close to his personal record. So how did beckham do in personal competitions? I name a few: UEFA Most Valuable Player UEFA Best Midfielder Voted second in World and European Player of the Year awards Voted second in FIFA World Player of the Year Bad players aren't even close to being nominated for such awards. Stats: Pass Completion Own Half % 89 Name me any other player with such a high score in the Premier League. I can see you don't like beckham's glamourboy immage and frankly neither do I (am from Holland) but that has nothing to do with on-the-pitch qualities. I disagree with you and ppl like Cruijff (analist at dutch television) and San Marco (in an interview) do so too. Can you give some facts which prove that beckham is a bad player? FACTS: FA PREMIERSHIP 00/01 01/02 Minutes played 2650 2127 Goals Inside Box 2 6 Goals Outside Box 7 5 Total Shots From Inside Box 8 19 Total Shots From Outside Box 50 51 Shooting Accuracy % 55 46 Goals/Shots % 16 16 Minutes Per Goal Scored 294 193 Goal Assists 12 8 Short Passes 1363 1034 Long Passes 718 500 Pass Completion Opposition Half% 73 71 Pass Completion Own Half % 89 88 Crosses to Own Player 107 78 Crosses to Opposition Player 246 170 Crosses Completion % 30 31 Tackles Attempted 31 44 Tackle Success % 68 57 Blocks 8 5 Interceptions 5 7 Fouls Conceded 31 32 Fouls Won 51 32 Offsides 8 12 Yellow Cards 3 6 Red Cards 0 0 INDEX SCORE 1323 1419 Honors: 1991 - Signs as trainee for Manchester United 1992 - Wins FA Youth Cup 1992 - Makes senior team debut with Manchester Utd in Coca Cola Cup 1993 - Signs as professional for Manchester United 1995 - Plays five games on loan to Preston North End 1995 - Makes league debut for Manchester Utd against Leeds 1996 - Manchester Utd win FA Premiership 1996 - Manchester Utd win FA Cup 1996 - Makes International debut for England against Moldova Player of the Month - August 1996 Sky Sports/Panasonic Young Player award Sky Sports/Panasonic Fans' Footballer award 1997 - Manchester Utd win FA Charity Shield 1997 - Manchester Utd win FA Premiership PFA Young Player of the Year Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year 1999 - Manchester Utd win FA Premiership 1999 - Manchester Utd win FA Cup 1999 - Manchester Utd win UEFA Champions League UEFA Most Valuable Player UEFA Best Midfielder 2000 - Manchester United win FA Premiership 2000 - Appointed England national team captain Voted second in World and European Player of the Year awards 2001 - Manchester United win FA Premiership Voted Sportsman of the Year by Sports Writers Association Voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year Voted second in FIFA World Player of the Year |

What is your definition of a right winger?
B/C according to mine definition, a right winger is someone that can cross the ball from the right side, dribble pass defenders to create space for strikers, defend well against opposing left wingers and can take the ball to the middle and shoot at goal. Beside being able to cross, Beckham cannot do anyone of those things. Well, maybe he can dribble abit toward the middle and shoot, but not often. As to what you say about Aimar, Sas, Ballack, Rui Costa, Cafu, Zannetti. Their official position might not be right wingers, but they sure play like one. Watch them closely and you will see what I mean. Beside, Cafu and Zannetti do play like a right wingers in their league team and sometime national team. As for personal awards, all you need is one good season or one good tournament and you can win them or be nominate for them, now I am not saying it means nothing, b/c they do, put it this way, Ronaldo or ZZ will probably win the FIFA World Player's award, but do you really think they deserve the award over the likes of Aimar, Ballack or Raul, or even Rivaldo. Honestly, Ballack was byfar the best player last season, but he is not even consider at the three finalist for that award. Can you explain that? Personal competition means how you match up against your opponents. For example, I am an Owen fan, but I also believe that he is not as talented as people say he is. However, after watching him agaisnt Samuel in the WC, I have a higher opinion of him. See my point. All I know is, Beckham had trouble facing R. Carlos, and honestly, that is not a sign of a world class right wing. One more thing, EPL is a league where there is a lot of space and room for midfielders. TO some extent, EPL is an up and down league unlike the ITalian where you have to wait for your chance due to the pressure from your opponents. I am pretty sure that if Beckham plays in Italy, his percentage would drop, heck I don't even think he is fast enough to play in the Liga. I must agree that most of the people I mentioned are No.10s, but in today's football, there is really no true definition of a no. 10 or a right winger or left winger. To me there is only attacking mids and defending mids, of which, some play on the right side and some play on the left. One more thing, Cruff is right about Beckham, and since you live in Holland, you must heard of a player from AJAX call Vander Myde. He is better than Beckham. |

About the facts.
Baggio, Rui Costa, Battigol, Totti, even Figo or Pires, and all the players I mentioned they all did not have nearly as much domestic success than Beckham, does that mean they are worst than Beckham? |

the truth is there is a lack of world class right wingers.
there must be if we are including left wingers - pires, right wing backs - cafu and zanetti, centre midfielders - rui costa and figo and aimar and ballack. in my opinion beckham is the best in his position just because there is no one with real quality in that position. If u are going to list those players you have to include Ljundberg. Even though it isnt his best position at least he plays there regularly. I disagree that backham is an average player. He crosses the bal like no one else, he hits the best free kicks in the world, has a good shot on him and puts himself out for the team. |

Ofcourse I know Andy van der Meyde he plays for Ajax! I'll take it as a compliment that you rate him higher than Beckham. Unfotunately Andy is a realy inconsistent player (at this moment) but he'll still have some time cuz he is only 22 years old I believe. Honestly I think it's quite an achievement to get 89% of ur passes right in a kick-and-rush league like the Premiership. I can't judge for all players you mention. But a player who has won so much competitions and played a vital role in them can't be a bad player imho. Unfortunately I can't find any data on how the presence of beckham affected the team performance of man utd (e.g. %wins when beckham played and the %wins when he did not play). You've given ur arguments I've given mine and it doesn't seem like we've convinced each other. Since there are more players than beckham which milan could buy I suggest we continue our discussion towards other players.

if given a choice and $$$, i would want Joaquín as he could be the one to sparkle our right mid-field..
i would also like to see aimar but not now, maybe in 2-3 years time, to replace either rivaldo or rui.. |

if we had to buy somebody then i would go for players we need rather than players to "sigh" and
"add depth" to the squad...we have enough depth in every area...but u can argue that we need flank players, and that is true...that is why i would buy; if i had to: SYLVAIN ARMAND... the only real missing part to our team...a good reliable replacement full-back for when kakha is tired... but hey whats this! he can paly right back aswell! PERFECT |

Indeed his name is Arjen, and he is a promise but he isn't even yet a starter. Let this guy mature for a few years and then see what he is worth.
He is only 19, he can grow to be a superstar and he can fall back into being undesired so let's wait a while.
