Last night I saw 'Stardust'. I must say its one of the best movies I have seen in recent times. The lead boy & girl looked pretty good with one another, specially because the girl looked older than the boy (which is my concept of an ideal couple)
Plus Michelle Pfeiffer is getting younger and younger with time. She looked like a 30 year old woman while she was of 49 when this movie was made (2007). Just wonder what does she eat?

I lately saw Danny Boyle's (Trainspotting and 28 Days Later) latest film Slumdog Millionaire about a young child from the Mumbai slums who manages to win the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Of course, the story isn't just about the game show, but about the life Jamal Malik has lead and how it relates to him answering questions on the show.

It's based on the book Q and A by Vikas Swarup. Critically, this film couldn't really have done much better. Not only has it been acclaimed, but it's been sweeping awards left, right and center.

I've been lucky enough to have already seen the film and without doubt it really does live up to the hype surrounding it. It's got pretty much everything, from rousing and inspiring characters and plot, to some of the seediest and darkest aspects of the slums. Acting is great from the kids through to the adult versions of the characters. As for the main actors involved, Dev Patel puts in an assured performance and will certainly be a star in the future if given the roles. Anil Kapoor is great as the presenter of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, by adding depth and a lot of character to what could have been a very small role. Irrfan Khan is great as the detective, I'm a fan of his work and the lead actress (forgot her name, but like Dev Patel it's her first film) is solid in her role.

For me, it's a must watch, and possibly the best film I've seen this year and one of the best I've ever seen.

I'm a big fan of Danny Boyle, so am very happy to find this movie available as a torrent (screener)...

I was looking forward to this one, but forgot all about it...
Thanx for reminding me about it, am already dl-ing it...

Anyway, very good imdb rating, it reached number 57. on their all time list...
Every movie with a grade higher than 8.0 is a must see, Slumdog Millionaire is on 8.7, so movie lovers don't miss this one

Dev, did you see the film about your sifu's teacher? I didn't see it at our local cinema so i'll have to wait for that to come to dvd.

I saw The Spirit yesterday. Don't watch it unless you really like cheesy dialogue/acting and over the top Sin City/Film Noir effects (yes i know it's done by Frank Miller). I enjoyed it, but probably because it was so bad it was good. Highlights of the film, Eva Mendes oozing sex appeal and Samuel L Jackson dressed as a Nazi in a scene that has to be seen to be believed (very funny bit it was too).

You're talking about Bruce Lee's teacher My sifu was taught by his two sons

I've not seen it yet, but I've seen the odd fight scene and it looks superb. Hopefully shouldn't need to wait too long to see it now.

Had to bring this thread back from the dead after I watched District 9 today.

Simply put, a brilliant scifi mockumentary film that is a much watch for pretty much everyone. I won't detail what it's about as imo you should watch this without knowing pretty much anything like I did

Another film to recommend is Kaminey, one of the recent Bollywood/Indian films. Excellent film about a couple of identical twins who don't get on or keep in touch, but their choices in life causes them to cross paths. Many have compared it to a Tarentino or Guy Ritchie film, due to it's stylistic nature and scenarios.

And to Jim who asked me about a film Ip Man (who was Bruce Lee's master) back in January I've seen it and it's a good watch. The film itself was fairly typical martial arts affair, but the fight scenes are excellent and very faithful to Wing Chun kung fu.

I saw Hostel (2005) few days back. I must say, if you are a fan of Horror genera, then you must it as soon as possible. I would say, its easily among the Best-10 horror movies of all time ahead of over ratted movies like The Thing (1982) , Psycho (1960) , The Birds (1963) , King Kong (1933) etc

I thought this film was quite boring ... I saw it in cinema and almost falled asleep !!
If you like horror films, I advice you the films of Georges Romero, living-dead/zombies' dad ...

I know it's not a movie, but the TV Show to watch at all costs is The Wire, and if you're not in a country where English is the first language, you MUST watch it in original version (with subtitles) ... after that, you'll need some time before managing to watch other series again because of the quality of The Wire. It's a slow rythm serie, the story is built on several seasons, and it becomes bigger and bigger. Probably the best TV show ever !!

I think you are talking about Hostel part-2 (2007). I saw it last night and I didn't like it as much as the first one Hostel (2005) is a great movie imo. One of the very best I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of movies since 1995 And yes I am a horror genera movie fan & I would try to find the ones you suggested

By the way, there are some scholarships available for us to go and study in Estonia, but after watching Hostel, now I am scared of going to Estonia, because its close to Slovakia if I am not mistaken

I have just watched 'The Last House on Dead End Street' (1977)IMDb link

One of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. At the end, just to convince my self, i had to remind my self again and again that 'Its just a movie'.

Faint heart people should avoid it. Its for the ones with strong stomach. Try to watch in a dark room, late night ............... Ohh man .....

Some weeks ago, I watched for the first time Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction (I saw it once on TV when I was a lot younger, at the age when movies don't interest you, you prefer playing with your toys, and so, it's like if I never watched it before) of Tarantino. They are classics, must-see movies of course.

I also watched two movies of Guy Ritchie: Snatch and RocknRolla. The first one could easily be put among the classics category. The second one disappointed me, it's actually the same movie, in a different context, but the same kind of characters, the same kind of off-voice telling the story, he simply made a copy-paste of Snatch. And only then, I noticed that he always uses the same kind of camera moves, special effects, etc when I discovered that Sherlock Holmes was also from Guy Ritchie.

Am a bit of a movie geek, so here goes:

My favorite movies off the top of my head are probably:

One flew over the cuckoo's nest
Apocalypse Now
A Clockwork Orange
Schindler's list
Fargo

I'll say that I think all of those fall in to the 'must c' catagory. Some very good movies I've seen lately and would recommend to anyone are:

Moon:

Sci Fi from 2009 with Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey.

Shutter Island:

Loved this

La Haine

French movie from the 90's.

In Bruges

Playwright Martin McDonagh's first film I believe. It's a dark comedy and I absolutly love it.

Gallipoli

Anti-war film from the 80's, Mel Gibson's first big role I think.

Glengarry Glen Ross

Great movie if you're into movies based on sharp and snappy dialogue.

Zack and Miri make a Porno

Seth Rogen movie, very funny!
