It could be that he played in defence in the reserve team but he did not break into the 1st squad as a regular defender. I know some players are versatile and can play in many positions and it's possible this is an aspect of Rino's game that escapes me as i remember how well Chris Sutton and John Collins (both Celtic greats of recent times) played in defence.

Yes you're right, I believe he said he played as a defender during training sessions rather than in matches.

Chris Sutton played in many important games For Celtic as a RB. Obviously his real talent was in attack but he was a better defender than our sub defenders and we still had Henrik Larsson and John Hartford.
