Silvio Berlusconi was coming .. a new Milan was coming !

-Since childhood Berlusconi had been an ardent fan of the famous Milanese footbal club , AC Milan . His father had taken him regularly to he stadiums on Sundays . In March 1986 as the crowing element of what was an outstandingly successful decade Berlu decided to buy the club. He buyed Milan to turn him into the greatest club in earth .
-In July 1986 the members if the " new AC Milan " team were presented to 10.000 fans . Team arrived by helicopter with loudspeakers playing Wagner's THE RIDE OF THE WALKYRIES .
"I knew very well that people laugh at me" Berlusconi recounted later , "even treat me with irony , but we need to show that the whole way of thinking at AC MILAN had changed . For the new 1987-87 season some 65,000 tickets were sold , an all-time record.

Stars Dutch footbal light up the grey on Sunday afternoons at the San Siro stadium . Marc van Basten , Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard were at the heart of new team , alongside outstanding Italian defenders like Franco Baresi and the young Paolo Maldini.

Within a few mothns San Siro's teraces were full of youths with their faces pinted black , theirhair coloured with with red and black and the dreadlocks falling over their shoulders . Berlusconi , too , espoused an antireacist position : " I explained to them ( the fan clubs) that it was possible to support a club without being violent or intolerant ..

What type of coaches were Sacchi & Capello , Zaccheroni ( AC MILAN )

- In the 87-88 season, the Italian championship was won by AC Milan , coached by Arrigo Sacchi. He changed the patterns and coaching methods with had been common till then. He introduced 4-4-2 , based on pressure , intensity of play , and team movement without the ball. Sacchi's AC Milan was arranged with only two players at the center of defense . This gave the team numerical superiority in midfield . AC Milan's attack was characterizied by overlapping movements between the back and the side midfielder.

- Sacchi was replaced by Fabio Capello in 91-92 season . Capello started from the mark left by Sacchi , but he added some changes by making more rrom for the talent individual skills of some outstandin players. Capellos's system mainly relied on the dribbling skills nad inventivenss of players like Van Basten , Gullit , Savicevic etc.

- Later AC Milan decided to sign Alberto Zaccheroni to coach their team , which at that time seemed to have lost the way to victory.Zaccheroni's Milan immediately won the Italian Championship, and this was an official ackenowledgement of the effentiveness of 3-4-3 wich many coaches would then modify into 3-4-1-2 by fielding an attacking midfielder behing the two forwards .

AC MILAN vs. INTERNAZIONALE

The rivalry between AC Milan and Internazionale dates from 1908 , when members of AC Milan , then known as Milan FC , broke away in protest of the British influence on the club. The new group called itself Internazionale becouse of the group's multinational nature. The two clubs have combined to win 25 Italian League champions since 1952 , 17 of them by AC Milan

From 1916-1917 the Italian Championship was suspended becouse World War | and the 1915 and 1916 seasons were substituted by a tournament called Federal Cup which Milan won.In 1929 Pietro Pirelli funded Milan's new stadium , the San Siro , while in 1929 the Girone Unico (Serie A) was formed. In between the World Wars, Milan experienced an unspectacular period, managing just two third place finishes in 1938-1941.Meanwhile. in 1938,Milan changed their name for the third and final time to the familiar AC ( Associazione Calcio) Milan . During the Facist era , Milan were obliged to change their name to Milano , but they changed it back to Milan once the war had thankfully finished.

In the post war period , Milan began to rebuild , begin assisted by the provision that allowed Italian clubs to sign 5 foreing players.Milan signed the Swrdish trio Gre-No-Li (Gunnar Gren,Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm). They were to be the saviors of Milan .Both Gren & Liedholm would prove to be masters of the midfield, contributing to Milan wining the Scudetto in 1951 , 1955 , 1957 & 1959. Milan also reached the final of the European Cup in 1958 . Later three more great players joined Milan , being Jose Altafini, Juan Alberto and Gianni Rivera who was bought for a record $ 200.000

still to come ...

BTW Thanks for coment Miss.S

The humble beginnings of AC Milan originate
Herbert Kilpin - responsible for the look of the AC Milan shirt

Shepherd's Bush (London) was the birthplace of one Herbert Kilpin in 1870. The Kilpin family moved to Nottingham when Herbert was very young and so this is where he was educated. In Shepherds' Bush he was working as a butcher. Edward's plan (Herbert's father) was to see his offspring including Herbert, take over the running of the family business when the time would come to relinquish the reigns.
Herbert seemed destined to carry on the family trade he had other ideas.

The young Herbert was a keen sportsman and he had dreams too. He wanted to break out of the family tradition, be different and see a bit of the world. He knew that if he were involved in the running of the family business, he would have to be committed. Commitment meant less time for cricket and travel. He was adamant this would not happen so he studied hard at school and got his head down. This led to a good job with a textile firm working in Turin, Italy. He was earning more money than he would have done as a butcher and he was enjoying life.

After a while, Herbert's desire to travel saw him leave Turin for Milan. In Milan, he became friendly with other English people living in the area and together they participated in sports such as cricket and football. These sports had yet to really take off in the area and the English community wanted to show their Italian hosts how much enjoyment and benefit there was to be gained from regularly playing sports such as these. Herbert and two of his colleagues working at the textile company (Samuel Davies and David Allison) would regularly spend their free time either batting, catching or kicking some form of ball.

Through playing cricket, Herbert eventually came in to contact with a wealthy landowner named Alfred Edwards. Edwards was also a keen cricketer and organised lots of cricket matches on a section of his land. Herbert knew there was scope there for a growth in the interest of sports in the community and he also knew that Edwards had the money to make things happen.

Herbert, David and Samuel were at a bar name Fiaschetteria Toscana one evening after work talking and laughing about life in general as they often did. Then they spotted Edwards and two companions at another table and invited them over for drinks.Once they were all settled, Herbert asked Edwards if he would be interested in giving him and his friend's financial backing to set up a cricket club.Edwards thought this was a great idea and his two business colleagues agreed to chip in too. They discussed all the various issues that had to be considered and agreed to put their idea in to practice. At this bar on the 16th December 1899, they came up with the name: Milan Cricket and Football Club. Their aim would be to promote sports in the community by creating cricket and football sides the city could be proud of.

To be countinued . . .

...Herbert and Edwards formed a board of directors and recruited people for their sports club. Ironically, among the first board of directors was Pierro Pirelli who was the grandson of Giovan Battista Pirelli, the founder of the famous tyre company in 1872.This is ironic because the Pirelli tyre company has been a big sponsor in recent years of the club's greatest rivals, Inter Milan. They now had a board and people willing to participate, the next thing on the agenda was to find somewhere to play. Not long after registering with the Italian Football Federation, they located a countryside field named Trotter.

After a brief time trying to promote cricket in the area, the founders realised that the locals were more interested in football than bats and wickets and this is why they decided to concentrate their efforts on this particular sport. Edwards, as the first president, set a fee of twenty lira for people wanting to join the club or twelve lira if you were a student. If anyone did not pay their fee then their punishment was the interdiction to train.

Now that they were going to be concentrating their efforts on football, Herbert decided that they needed a proper club strip. He decided on red and black stripes as many English football teams played in stripes and English football teams were the best around. As well as designing the club strip, Herbert also designed the club badge to go on the club strip. He incorporated the flag of St. George which is a red cross on a white background, the flag of England. Now, they were ready.

On the 11th March 1900, AC Milan managed and captained by Herbert Kilpin walked out on to the Trotter Field for their first recorded football match. It was played against a local team called Mediolanum and the team that day had a distinctly Anglo-Italian feel: Hoode, Cignaghi, Torretta, Lees, Kilpin, Valerio, Dubini, Davies, Neville, Allison and Formenti. Herbert, David and Samuel were instrumental in a resounding 3-0 victory. Although this was only a friendly, it was the beginning of the history of one of the world's great clubs. Herbert Kilpin had achieved his dream of achieving something really worthwhile. By the time of his death as a hero in World War One, he was a local legend who had started something that eventually gripped the entire community. He had introduced the sport of football.

Thanks for comment Warro , i'll countinue digging and find interesing stories !

Good job, lked...

now, since most people only read the last page, but not refer to the start of the thread, we have posted the same stuff 2-3 times or more... mostly about the start of ACM, Kiplin, etc. A little bit about Gre-No-Li, and less about the Sacchi-Capello days...

so I will go over the recent history of our team, for those who are too young to have seen it happen, or simply became fans recently...
