i like how Merkel plays, he is the kind of player that Milan midfield lacked since Seedorf aged and passed his best, even on his best days, Seedorf always had contuinity problem. Also considering this, Milan never had a complete midfielder like Merkel in the last years.
He passes well, he runs a lot, he moves well, His movement to box is amazing, you can be tired by watching his moves to box, He just need some maturity, he needs to be solid on 1-1 defensively, he must take more responsibility on the pitch. He is good on dribbing skills, i think he must improve on this aspect. his game is disciplined, he also showed he can mature in short term. He will play better game after game, cuz his self confidence is growing game after game. he takes more responsibility, tries to pass player, shows some nice dribbling skills...Above all, he is a hardworking team player. Thats what i expect from a young player. i care about Merkel cuz i expect great things from him, i see a world class player in him in the making.
i think that Milan still has problems in midfield, Flamini is good player, maybe sometimes he lost his temper, maybe sometimes he injures himself much. However Flamini is good player, dymanic, good passer defensive midfielder, yet he adds very little to offensive power, his decisions are poor, his movement and finishing is not as good as his tackling. Flamini gets very high salary, i'd not be sad if Milan sell him for good sum and buy Jucilei instead him...
When we play vs strong and a little bit solid sides, Our central midfield trio offensively should do better.
For instance, Gattuso is better than Van Bommel on this aspect, He can be a wall defensively, however he adds very little offensively, good passing and sometimes long rate shoots, he adds nothing except it...i see us playing Merkel on the left(in the future), however we lack one box to box player, like Jucilei, who can add more offensively, more dynamic, atletic and he runs more and more...
Regarding wing backs, i think that Abate matured well, he improved defensively well, he reads the game better, control the tempo well, his positioning and movement good. Off course he doesnt make a Maicon effect on the left, but still good contribution.
Antonini works well, he moves well, however his crossing, finishing and movement is bad, if we plan to play Abate on right, however we need a world class left wing back, offensively who can make a Maicon effect on left...
i hope Milan can splash 20 m euros on Coentraro, he really can improve our squad better...
Central backs is not a big issue for me, Silva is always great, Nesta is great, yet injury prone, Yepes did pretty well during Nesta's absence and Silva's movement to DM position.
However Bonera, Papa are not enough. We need one more solid CB, Mexes could be this name, i watched him vs Brazil and vs Pato, he was pretty solid, he didnt show ball to Pato and Brazil's offence.
We can sign him as free agent next summer, he can be a great purchase for us. Moreover we can make cash by selling Bonera and Papa...
Also considering we will be getting rid of some high wages, as Jankulovski will leave for his homeland,
Onyewu can be sold, Oddo and Zambrotta can be sold, Nesta's contract will be renewed if you ask me...
We can get enough cash for Coentraro.
i wonder what Milan will do on Pirlo case, he is getting high salary, if we renew his contract at same amounts, considering Pirlo's contribution and injuries he had, that will be questioning. Seedorf can return to his home, Ambro may leave, Van Bommel defensively as a wall, is doing well, i think Milan can opt for his stay one more year, because of this. i see Merkel as important aspect for our future, honestly Strasser doesnt impress me, he looked slow, he must have killed some counters, he couldnt because he was slow...
Gattuso is doing well, i think that he will stay. Boateng until his injury, he did pretty good. i just wonder where he'll play. Cassano is finding his form, Robinho's effect on attack is important to us, considering it seems we may sign Ganso at the end of this season, so i dont see Boateng as a regular in attacking trio though he has chance for midfield trio. But yet he will stay as a important element for us even if he sits on the bench...i think we will sign and own him fully...
We are great on attack, ibra, Cassano and Robinho are great. Likewise, i expect more from Pato, he has enormous potential but still he didnt show even %50-60 of this. Pato must sacrifice himself for the squad, he must work hard, he has to improve, he should dribble less and use his football brain more.
He must improve on decisions and passing. he lost so much ball with bad decisons and bad passing.
Pato has Messi effect potential, i hope he can show his full potential, fullfill it...
We can sign a 9 number in attack, considering Pippo is old. Sometimes we need a player who can break the deadlock. Falcao for me is this kind of player. but i dont see us moving for him because we are already set in attack and dont have any room for him. Maybe we can sign a player at this stylee who have great potential, an investmen for the future.
Abbiati is doing pretty well, Moreover i see us signing Marchetti at the end of this season, Honestly, i rate Sirugu and Handanovic better, they are better GK's than Marchetti. free agent and who accept bench role. i hope we move for Handanovic or Sirugu in the future, for first team spot after Abbiati...
