As a sub/reserve you can't really ask for much better than Borini tbh. He's got certain qualities that are important, but he's capable at least to the extent of not fking up everytime he touches the ball.

If this story about "Donnarumma's Real Madrid plan" was true, I guess we wouldn't stop negotiating for another goalkeeper, would we? We should then sign a new top keeper and have Donnarumma as his backup for at least half a season before selling him.

I understand Borini is considered pretty much useless and that's not far from the truth unless he has an exceptional turnaround, but we need to add some level of depth given we're playing 3 competitions this season. Bear in mind that last year, our options up front were just Bacca and Lapadula, while in wide areas it was mostly just Bonaventura, Niang and Suso. We also had Honda and Ocampos to be called on if necessary, but they're not around anymore. Niang and Bacca look set to leave, while Lapadula also looks very uncertain, so we're completely revamping our attack.

The question is, do we spend more on a player that will get maybe a handful of appearances or do we get a cheap solution (Borini for 1m that could go up to 6m) and look to reallocate resources to players who can really offer more value? For me, Borini coming in is simply a short term cheap solution and I fully expect that we will still be getting more exciting names for the attack.

On Aubameyang or Kalinic, Auba's without question the more exciting possibility. It will be interesting how that turns out, as I think he's been rumoured on and off for a much longer period than either Morata or Belotti were.
