According to Andrea Montanari of Milano Finanza – who had originally identified Commisso as the main negotiator – has a different view of the situation.
He suggests via Twitter that Elliott Management are pulling the strings and told Yonghong Li to reject the offer. That is because they know that they’ll have 100 per cent ownership of Milan if he doesn’t meet the October deadline to repay the €303m loan (which with interest is €380m). Elliott are a vulture fund, who choose assets in trouble and then aim to repossess them at a cut price. If Yonghong Li fails to meet the October deadline, Elliott Management will own Milan for an output of €303m, whereas the club was purchased for €740m in April 2017. “It’s inexplicable,” wrote Montanari. “More than a game of poker, Yonghong Li is playing Russian Roulette.”

Something doesn't smell right here. If Elliott is going to take over Milan in 10 days for basically 300M, then why would Yonghong let them do that? Unless Elliott promised they would sell the team for higher than what Commisso was paying by initiating a bidding war. I swear, everything involves Milan seems to get supremely convoluted for no good reason.

Wow... So basically everything that people had warned us might happen is happening. If there's no sale, we're definitely out of Europe next season, as it is highly unlikely our appeal to CAS will be successful. Our owner has turned out to not have enough money to run the club. And now our fate is being decided by a vulture fund that does not give a damn about Milan and its history, and is only out to make a profit.
This is actually the lowest point we've been at in my time as a fan. The last five years of Berlusconi were nothing compared to this. I am seriously worried about the long-term future of the club.

I'm hoping that this tactic was not because of Elliot as reported, but because Ricketts put in a similar formal offer that would leave Li with a larger % of the club. Still trying to stay optimistic but it's not looking good

I still think this is just a media game. I think the deal will go through. I really don't see Li rejecting this. These negotiations have been going on for 40 days and the media had no clue about it. Now all of a sudden they know that Li changed his mind and got greedy?
We'll see tomorrow, but I don't buy it. If he agreed to it in the first place like they were all reporting, then I don't see how that changed in 1 hr. Maybe they just got the initial reports wrong then...

Could be that Li actually did pull out because of another buyer. Or could be that he did a deal with Elliot. That they take the club, sell for a larger profit and he takes home a cut? Could be a new Chinese investors come through with the $$ Not sure. But could be a large number of reasons other than what is being reported. I hope the deal does go through with Commisso or Ricketts though |
