What I am trying to say is first of all, I am NOT pro Gazidis but to me there is plenty of evidence that 'we want to bring Milan back soon' is not possible and the legends can't operate when it's not possible. They will leave even if Gazidis doesn't do dumb things cause their B&G time type dream won't happen.
I respectfully disagree. I don't think it is necessarily true that Maldini and Boban are naive or stubborn enough to pursue their B&G type dream. Their track record has suggested their success. They paid peanuts for Bennacer. They definitely underpaid for Theo. We paid 8M on Rade Krunic, and that's absolutely not B&G type dream. They are quite down-to-earth and accepting the reality that we have to make the bargain purchases. What big names have they bought, or what big salary have they handed out? The deal on Ibrahimovic looks like a shrewd one, even with the dip in Ibrahimovic's form in the recent past.
If anything, Gazidis is the one that's naive and stubborn, believing that a young team can do well on its own. Perhaps he doesn't care about the results on the field, but to increase profit, there are two ways: cut the cost and increase the revenue. All he knows seems to be cutting the cost. Has he done anything to increase revenue? (not a rhetorical question).
I wonder why Maldini rejected Li's invitation (I believe he was invited) but opted to trust Elliott. Elliott is more cold-blooded business, while Li in fact truly cares about Milan, though he is stupid and eventually paid a price for that. If Maldini was as you claimed, having that B&G type of big-spending dream, he would/should have accepted a role. That summer, we overpaid for a lot of crappy players. Imagine if Maldini was around, we could have improved the quality by much more with the same amount of expenditure. (Of course, we got screwed by Bonucci too, but that's a different story).
I am too upset (and busy) to continue typing. I am going to stop here now, and just wait to see how it unfolds from here.
