We're not really able to spend more... WE're picking up everyone on loan with the option/obligation.
But inter is massively stacked for numbers with many of their loaned players likely not being bought.
It's probably a case of being stuck with extra players and wages that are not needed as well as the fact their loan/options were due now.
We'll be in the same boat next season too. With all the options due for the players we're picking up now.

Hard to tell. If I had to guess, it's a cashflow issue. Even loans cost money and you have to cough up cash up front. What we are doing now, Inter did last summer. They got Barella and Sensi on loan + options...and this summer it was time to take up those options and cough up cash in terms of 1st installments. I'm sure the Lukaku installments aren't chunk change either. That, coupled with loss of revenue and shortage of cash due to COVID, and you got what you see this summer.
I think we're in better shape because we didn't have any big obligations to dish out big sums of cash this summer.
Edit: Porcho beat me to it

pretty much though. They're in the position we will be in IF we don't play our cards right this season and hit the targets we need. eg. UCL plus any other increased revenue we can get.
Yup. But the only difference (and not a small difference btw) is they have to deal with further loss of cashflow due to Covid...something we hopefully won't be dealing with next season.

Another big factor is wage bill. We have reduced that significantly and freeing up the likes of Reina, Caldara, Borini, Bona, Biglia, Suso per season acts as a transfer if viewed over two seasons.

So I was holding off on the Tonali highlight videos because I’m still not convinced he is coming. That guy really has a rocket for a right foot. Looks like a great player to spread play. He and Bennacer would play well together. Less defensive than Kessie but improved offense.

it is not just football. i think athletes of all field now benefit from better technology. however, it still requires the players themselves to be highly professional and disciplined. ronaldinho would not have made it. he is barely older than ibrahimovic, i think.

I think this one should be a done deal, but I know exactly how you feel too! I am still a bit anxious right now!

True. We would likely not be doing so many loan with options if COVID didn't exist also.

our lowered wage bill is going to be a huge help going forward.
On Tonali, I feel like he can easily take Kessie's spot. Kessie is better physically, that's about it. The rest, I'd have him on par or beating Kessie. He's definitely better on the ball and has a significantly better passing range.

100%
There's a reason why Zlatan/Ronaldo are still peak physically. it's determination as well as assistance from the tech and medical advances in sport.
without that determination, we'd only see an extra year or two out of someone like Ronaldinho... If that.
The rumours regarding a possible move for Chiesa are getting stronger...
