Summer mercato 2020
I did hope that our management learnt some important lessons from Paqueta fiasco in Milan is to not pay more than 15M on players from Brazilian league. I hope they note it down.
Forza Diavolo ale!!!
Nico Schira is reporting that Martinez Quarta won't be a replacement of Milenkovic for Fiorentina.

Fiorentina rejects Waste Ham offer. (DiMarzio)
Well done, would have been an absolute shame if he would moved there.
Forza Diavolo ale!!!

It just didn't work out for us with him. We overpaid to begin with. 38mil for a young Brazilian talent that never played in Europe (and was also in his 1st pro year in Brazil too, righ?) was simply too much of a gamble. We were't ready for that. The bad deal was done back then. Not now. Now we did what was necessary to move on. And considering the sitiation, it could have been worse. I'm surprised he was sold outright. I was expecting a loan ala Suso.

I didn't mean we should keep him or not keep him. It is not a good deal pure money wise, it is not really cutting much losses in money terms. It is a positive if the player in his place, whoever he is, costs less and does better when he is here (for at least as long as the length of time Paqueta was here)

Well selling him for 20 million is a lot better than being stuck with him, I think. True the overall picture is that we lost money on this deal, but it had become very obvious that he wasn't going to succeed at Milan, and there wasn't really a place for him in Pioli's system. If he had spent the coming season on the bench, which was the likely outcome had he stayed, then we probably would have gotten even less for him. So just about breaking even in FFP terms isn't a bad deal for us at all, because it could have been much worse.
That said, it is a shame it didn't work out for him at Milan. He is obviously a very talented player, and I really liked how he played in his first months at the club, but it was like he wasn't able to keep up when the team began to perform better. I guess it was a psychological block of some kind, but what do I know...

Agreed. No reason to have a player for depth who can’t fit the roles needed.

Does anyone think Mussachio may succeed this season? I know we are linked with defenders, but he is competent and I just have to wonder if he will improve in an organized side like Kessie did. Obviously won’t be as dramatic but could be a reliable squad player. I think management may believe this as we didn’t aggressively move to shore up the defense as opposed to the attack.
From our needs' perspective, selling Paquate is good thing to do. However it is not a 'not bad deal' like reza said. We lost a lot in this case. I think, we should give him more time. His price dropped significantly only one and half year, almost half of the price Milan paid. With his skill, I don't think his price will drop a lot again.

Or better option I think, loan with option to buy for 35-38 mil euros. If Chelsea could do such transfer for Bakayoko to Milan who was could be worse than Paqueta in term of performance before loaning out, why can't we?

+1 although I've mainly seen him at RB. so If we're selling Conti and getting him then fine. Not sure I like the idea of buying him to play CB.

Please god no! Get rid of him from one team only for him to go to my other team.

We did... We let Benfica take the risk on Everton

Sure, we could have done that. But look at Bakayoko. Still and Chelsea, no? We can demand whatever we want in terms of a number....doesn't mean we'll get it. Hard to imagine anyone was going to be willing to value Paqueta more then 25mil currently. And you know that if anyone agreed an option to buy at 35-38, there is 0% chance they were exercising that next summer.

I don't know. It sucks that in terms of cash, we sold for less then we bought. But it is what it is. We had to move on from him somehow. This wasn't the worst solution to be honest.

Totally agree. A good investor know when to cut loss and move on instead of being so hard up. We are not Chelsea who buy tons of players to loan out all over Europe. I prefer selling him outright, his attitude problem mean we won't ever see him in Milan ever again. We do not want another Bacca situation.
