Merkel was actually bought last year or the one before, he didnt come out of our youth.. the only ones as far as I know are Verdi and Albertazzi.. they're the ones worth noting.

Rumors said we have 6m buy out clause for the other half of Merkel. Don't ask me for the source, we can google and get various numbers and sources. I did doubt about El Sharaawy's quality as it could have been a compensation deal for Prince. Without a buy out clause Merkel can worth 2m-20m depending on the deal makers. I guess El Sharaawy will return to Genoa in Jan, we redeem Merkel next summer. Once Genoa cash in in these deals, there will be more Genoa who can share quality youngsters with Milan.

Wikipedia says that we bought Merkel from Stuttgart in 2008, so you were right.

I would like to keep both Merkel and El Shaarawy. It seems that Genoa is much better at conducting business than we.

I'm thinking merkel should learn from abate to play left fullback next year.our LB is a weak link so far, taiwo didn't adapt yet. merkel will face stiff competition at midfield,it's lot easier for him to crack first 11 playing LB.

What makes you think he can play LB?

Merkel is versatile and very coachable, very tactic sensible.it won't be a difficult job for him to make that change.and most improtantly,we need a left abate badly.

But still, why change Merkel into a LB, instead of trying to get Santon from NewCastle, or look at how De Vito and Alerterzzi develop. Merkel will probably be one of the best box to box mid in the world if he continues his work rate and barring any serious injuries. It will be interesting to see if Merkel can crack the German National team for this Euro

Put it this way, any teams who is willing to pay money to get Kala off Milan is a great business partner for Milan.

Merkel has absolutely no common characteristics with Abate. That's why trying to make him play at LB would be weird at best.

That's like taking Silva and asking him to play as our center forward. Big Grin
"Defending is part of football... Keep possession 95% if u want... but the score is 2-2... thats it!! Well done milan.. Make serie a proud once again.. Big Grin"

If we get merkel back next season,we will have nocerino, slowdorf, aquilani and probably montolivo ahead of him playing 2 wide DM positions, his play time at midfield is measurable. we also have 4 strikers plus boateng playing front 3 positions.and the current merkel is not good enough to make germany NT yet.

He is facing the same situation as abate was.shift to LB is not a bad option, otherwise he'd better be loaned out for another year or 2.

The obstacle is the player himsel.I remember anceloti tried flamini at RB,he actually did quite solid there, but flamini obviousy doesn't like to play fullback.

I can fairly certainly say that Merkel will almost definitely NOT crack the German National team for the euros. They have way too many options in midfield as it stands already. I'm not sure..has he even been called up for U-21 yet?
Siamo a posto cosi.
