The contract renewals are coming at a bad time for us. I agree with what you are saying. BUT, can we honestly say these players deserve the money they are asking for? We don't know what the heck they are worth because they've been so inconsistent. Have they turned the corner? Or will the go back to being mediocre. We have more data from them being mediocre then them being good. So then, we give them these big contracts, they go back to being average (let's be honest...most of them have been average/below average for years...except this past season) and then we are stuck in the EL with astronomical wages and nobody to sell these players to. Back to year zero....
I don't mind paying anyone what they deserve. But these guys don't deserve to triple their wages after 1 good season.
Donnarumma didn't deserve more then what he got and definitely not more then he was offered. Hakan barepybdeserves what he's been getting...but he's offered more then that and wants even more. Calabria, I'm unsure about because we have very little info on how his contract talks are actually going and how much he wants. Then we got Kessie, who per reports wants 6M. It's insane what's going on. We have to pay if we want to keep them, I get it but god damn...they are all looking for a payday after 1 good season.

I was being sarcastic, we bought Laxalt for 18m (yes 18m) 3 years ago and the only thing we can get for an international still under 30 years old player is 3.5.

Atalanta are on the verge of securing AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners and getting closer to Charles De Ketelaere of Club Brugge too. The first target is 23-year-old midfielder Koopmeiners, who has already agreed personal terms and is on the verge of completing the move after Atalanta raised their offer to €15m plus bonuses. He certainly has an eye for goal, scoring 17 in 40 competitive games this season, along with seven assists.
The same report by Alfredo Pedullà maintains Atalanta are also closing on Club Brugge creative midfielder De Ketelaere.
There are suggestions in Belgium of an imminent deal, also worth €15m, and it’s possible the Bergamo club could sign them both.
Very shrewd signings as usual By Atalanta. Will go for double or triple what they paid in a few seasons time.
