It's obvious that maldini doesn't like taiwo,he said in an interview that he wants to see maxwell in milan and won't mind santon coming either.maybe we will see a taiwo for santon swap soon.

Allegri praised taiwo's performance last night though,claiming that more playtime will do him good.It's a really tricky situation there.

I think Allegri was simply being "polite", rather than aggravating a tough situation. Personally, I totally agree with Maldini with Taiwo, he's simply not the player we'd hoped for and I don't think he's the LB we need even though I was optimistic about him when he joined.

I also agree with Maldini's opinion that fullbacks these days are much more converted midfielders than defenders. This focus for me is the reason why it's so hard to find good fullbacks in the modern game, as almost all are surprisingly weak as defenders.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing us changing the trend and looking for more balanced fullbacks who are defensively better inclined. Although this means we may not have the attacking potential from wingbacks that we'd have from someone like Dani Alves, it does mean that we're more assured at the back. Also with players like Nocerino and Aquilani also frequently pushing into wide areas, the fullbacks movement is more important (to ensure space is opened up for others as they move up) than their technical qualities at consistently producing great crosses, although having such qualities are ideal.

Regarding the Acquisition of Taiwo, I think it's a little embarrassing for our Scouts and Management who brought him in "thinking" he would be better. If our own French Scout GeoTav said Taiwo sucks, how could guys like Braida not see it? It goes to show how sometimes judging a player can be very difficult. Abate was not the player he is now, but it's difficult to see Taiwo improve greatly as he looks incredibly uncoordinated and nervous.

Now, regarding Tevez, IF we don't get him, then we should avoid loaning a striker. We have enough strikers for this season (Ibra, Binho, Pato, SES, Inzaghi) and should win Serie A with the best strike force in Italy. If we don't, it's NOT because our strikers are not good or deep enough. Tevez can't be used in UCL anyways, so he's not 'necessary'. If we want him for next year, then hopefully Galliani can buy him at a bargain price and bring him in immediately.

I still maintain our priorities are AM, CDM, & LB positions. As Dev & Hitman said, I too wouldn't mind a LB with a more defensive minded game. I wanted Fabio Coentrao, but we all know how that ended up.

Lastly, regarding Merkel, can someone explain our deal with Genoa. Is it a co-ownership in which he returns to us next year?

It's not like Taiwo has played 20 games and failed, we jumped on him early because he was free. Wenger was rumoured to want him but he wasn't going to commit as early as we did in the spring.
Bad decision making, doesn't matter that he was free or not.

I once wanted Ganso but at this point, after 2 major knee surgeries, and seeing his performance against Barca, I think there are better options out there. Santos will think they're owed 30+ Million Euros for this guy, and it's simply not a fair value for a cripple ... talented or not... He can't move.
