If we ever were to sell him, the 50m being offered today is the highest that we can ever, ever get from not just from Pato, but from any player in the future (due to FFP rules coming in).


People need to understand tradeoffs must happen to achieve success. Getting rid of players like Bonera/Antonini/Ambrosini alone is not going to achieve success, because the value we get from those is not nearly good enough to replace them with good enough players.

A player like Pato, who has great market value, who is currently underachieving for Milan for at least 2 years, who is an injury prone player, is not indispensable for a team like Milan who looks for immediate glory rather than glory in 3-4 years. The kid was bought for 22m, and is being currently paid 2m per season - that is not a small investment.

You people need to value what the dollar means, this is not Football Manager. A sum like 50m to you is just a number, but for Galliani and especially a business guru like Berlusconi it spells out a world of opportunities. We could get up to 3-4 new Pato's.

Yes Pato has alot of potential, yes he has scored goals for Milan and yes he will blossom into a great player at a different club one day (possibly). While paying him this much, will our investment of 22m be paying us back until then? When will it begin paying us back and when will we break even?

Truth of the matter is - not any time soon. However, if we sell him for 50m, we are making over a 100% profit on this investment, and that money could be used to effectively improve our entire team - namely our starting LB position, and about 4 midfielders that will leave next year.


Trade-offs must happen. We should lose a potentially great player when an offer of 50m comes in. It would be wrong economically not to accept it. I actually would seriously consider a 35m offer for him, but if it is in the region of 50 then there should truly be no question.

Stop thinking with your hearts. Successful business-men need to be harsh and to the point. Milan screwed up in recent years because of the lack of harshness in renewing all these old players we had when we were pose to let them go ages ago.


In conclusion:

Trading off Pato's goals, and potential 'world-class'ness for immediate 50m and an immediate replacement (Tevez) who offers immediate pay back (goals) is the smart thing to do. For 50m, we would be actually be very stupid not to accept it.

Pato said many things in his interview, how he has taken two training sessions everyday after his injury, his personal target in the near future, and despite the so-called criticism to Allegri, how he's willing to keep his head down and work; but no, some people chose to ignore the bigger picture and conveniently focused on triviality, started up the nonsense and stuck to it even after Pato's agent denied any talk about a transfer.

I respect your right to have an opinion, and I honestly try to read and understand your posts. I have read the above post half way through and realized I am reading the same thing for the 100th time.

Everyone on MM now knows that you want Pato out. If you at least came up with new arguments, I would honestly keep reading.
But repeating same things over and over and over and over .... I mean, come on....

This specifically is the part you can't stop repeating. Many people replied to these arguments, but you kindly chose to ignore their replies:

1. 50m will not get reinvested. Our debt hints to this. Our past sales hint to this. If anything, we will sign some cheap player just to shut fans up, just like the management did with money from Kaka and Sheva sales.

2. For some reason you assumed that Tevez will be a proven success. Noone doubts his ability, but everyone doubts his mental state. Tevez is still a huge huge gamble. The fact that Galliani is only willing to do a loan with an option to buy, already speaks volumes about potential problems with him.
I would say that Pato has a higher probability of becoming world class than Tevez making it big in Milan.

I understand both sides of this, but the question remains, if Pato leaves, we won't have enough strikers for UCL. Therefore, if he leaves, it can't be until June.

€50M is a lot of money, but my question remains, is the offer real? Or are we all reacting (and in a few cases, over reacting) to what could be a series of coincidences linked by speculation?

I learned my "lesson" about footballers with the Sheva and Kaka sagas, so no longer feel strongly about players coming or going....at the end of the day, I want to see Milan win. End of story. Doesnt matter who the players are that lift the trophy, as long as they are wearing a Milan jersey when they do.

Oh, and on a superstitious note, the last Milan shirt that I have with a Milan player's name on it, is one w/ Pato on the back....and every time I have purchased ashrt w/ a players name, that player leaves shortly thereafter....

Warro, before the summer Mercato opens, make sure you purchase shirts of Gattuso, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Taiwo, Zambrotta, Bonera.

At the moment this whole thing just doesn't make sense to me. Firstly, Carletto is not even the coach of PSG yet. And would you fire your current coach after guiding the club to top the league?

Then, even if he does become their coach, does he want Pato that badly? A similar rumor once gained momentum when Pato said good words about Carletto when he signed for Chelsea, to which the latter denied and said he had no intention of bringing Pato or any Milan player. Even Leo, of all the people, said that he never wanted to hijack our plan of getting Tevez. I could be wrong, but despite the differences between them, I sense they still have, if not affection, at least some respect to Milan.

Also we haven't even signed Tevez yet. And he was supposed to replace Cassano. Even if we sign Tevez after selling Pato, where are we gonna find the striker of the same calibre who is not cup-tied?

Lastly, let's said this ridiculously large sum of 50M is true. If PSG are willing to pay that much for a striker who is having arguably his worst slump in Milan jersey and just returned from recurring injuries, don't you think that his price will be higher if he stays fit and adds another scudetto to his CV?
