Milan have given the green light for Matteo Gabbia to leave the club and get minutes on loan at Sampdoria, but the deal might not go through yet.
According to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri have reached an agreement in principle with Sampdoria for the loan of Gabbia but before giving the definitive green light to the departure of the 22-year-old, Milan want to close the signing of a centre-back.

Samu Castillejo is still not a part of AC Milan’s plans but a January exit seems to have become more complicated for the time being.
Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have offered the player out to LaLiga clubs such as Celta Vigo and Getafe but also Espanyol and Real Mallorca. The problem is that the former Villarreal man currently receives €2.5m net per year, with a contract expiry of June 2023. Even a loan is not easy because of the salary issue, so at the moment the Spaniard’s exit is blocked.

From what I can see we can't afford starter quality so if we sign somebody who is at the same level as Gabbia (either status wise or talent wise) then what's the point? I guess we can find some one who is available like Kjaer (cheap and good) but even in that sense it depends if there is guarantee that Gabbia gets minutes at Sampdoria. If they are healthy any guarantee he is going to be used over Yoshida, Dragusin and other CDs there?

According to the latest reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, who spoke live on air tonight, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are increasingly interested in Eric Bailly. They have already obtained the ‘yes’ of the 27-year-old for a move.
The idea of the Rossoneri is to bring in a defender on loan, with the option of potentially making it permanent in the summer. Bailly is the most feasible option as things stand, per the report, but Milan are also keeping tabs on Abdou Diallo of PSG.
If this goes through it will be a pointless signing of a useless player who is always injured. Gabbia is much better and proven in Serie A.
I don't buy the Bailly rumour unless he is Kessie's BFF, he isn't even available until whenever CIV are out of AFCON little lone the injury issues.
If we need an experienced CB do a loan exchange Yoshida for Gabbia. BTW, Yoshida is better than Romagnoli.
Give me Omeragic on loan+option as the long term option.
Maldini was clear and honest guys. He said we are looking for a CB, but the market conditions and availability will dictate whether we get one on loan or invest one for the future. Bailly seems to be the loan kind. He would also allow Gabbia to go and get game time. Kalulu and Romagnoli are both ahead of Gabbia at the moment. No sense in him sitting on the bench. I also think the 1st choice will be Tomori - Romagnoli the rest of this season but with the way Kalulu is playing, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in there instead of Roma. Bailly is the guy off the bench. And i'd rather him there than Gabbia, simply because I want Gabbia to play and develop. Then, we re-evaluate in the summer.
The only thing about this that's odd is the fact he's unavailable this month and potentially part of February.
