He wasn't going to be world class, but as a second/third choice he would be better than all of them.
We weren't going to be better off though. We were finishing in EL places with those that you listed. It would have been the the same (if not worse) with Cutrone. 18m was a great bit of business. Put it this way, we bought Theo Hernandez with that money.
But yes, we didn't quite get the CF signings right. Although, Piatek left the following season while Andre Silva had already gone before Cutrone I believe (on loans). Lapadula and Kalinic were prior to/same time as Cutrone so they weren't replacements. Rebic/Borini different positions.
Anyway, I'm all for keeping good youth players to be squad options over signing mediocrity for millions. I jist don't think Cutrone (and to your point, any of those you listed) had enough quality to match what Milan should be fighting for. Hence, it's no surprise we were finishing/fighting for EL places with those players....and now, none of them are here and we see the difference.
