A few rumours today. As mentioned in the Robinho thread Galliani has said he wants to keep him. To me, this is either a bluff to get a better offer, or it more likely means Cassano's out, which I'd be ok with if done. Bear in mind Cassano was also a close friend of Ibra's, so would probably be more annoyed about his sale than others.
In attack, we're apparently going to let Roma sign Destro, as Galliani answered Preziosi's phone during a meeting this week and on the other end was Roma's Sabatini, who was calling about Destro (this is on every site atm). As for who we'll sign, rumours are all over the place with Tevez, Dzeko, Damiao (who like Xudong, doesn't totally convince me yet) and Van Persie all supposedly in the running. goal.com is convinced it'll be Dzeko that comes.
In midfield, we're linked to Fernando Reges of Porto according to milannews, though if we're to go for a Porto midfielder, then it should be Joao Moutinho imo. The Modric to Real deal looks closer, meaning Sahin is being rumoured again on milannews (within our budget, imo the best option). Diarra's name hasn't completely disappeared yet either and Poli is also rumoured on milannews and football-italia.
Finally, for defence many names are linked. Shalke confirmed we're after Kyriakos Papadopoulos, but they aren't interested in selling. Rolando is waiting for our call and is priced at 15m, but we're not prepared to go over 8-10m. Finally there's Serdar Tasci, who is a German international of Turkish descent and captain of Stuttgart, aged 25. His agent, as posted by Xudong has quoted, has said he wants to play for Milan. My first choice has until now been Astori, but it seems it might be difficult to get him. In that respect, I wouldn't mind Tasci as he has similar qualities but hasn't got the experience under Allegri. He's also apparently cheaper than Rolando, priced at around 12m. One final strength of Tasci is he's of Turkish descent born in Germany, like Sahin (though one plays for Germany, the other Turkey). If both are to come, then it'd be useful for them to be together at Milan. All news was on milannews.

On the one hand I'm a little disappointed, as being on good terms with Raiola is often beneficial to the club's successes. On the other hand I'm relieved, as Raiola epitomises why everyone hates agents.

It's going to be some fantasy stuff, but if we end the Summer by getting Rolando and Tasci for our defence, Poli and Sahin for example (or another combination of two midfielders) for our midfield, and Dzeko for our attack, I won't be that unhappy when come the 1st of September ...
But such moves would mean we should sell some other guys (Bonera or Yepes should be sold/released as we would have too many CB), the midfield would be perfect (young, dynamic, not really experienced but with players who will want to show they are Milan material and able to be a part of the new cycle), and our attack would probably be more complete (not relying on one single player).
At the end, with such moves, our team could look weaker than with Thiago Silva and Ibra, but we could actually be better ...
I reinstalled FM12 yesterday, that started to make me dream again ...

Look how he was very quiet last summer, and suddenly, in July 2012, he is all other the web news, a lot of his players are involved in moves from their respective clubs, all at the same time ...
So I don't think he contributes that much to the success of clubs.
Raiola would be a perfect scout, maybe a very good manager in a club (a role like Leonardo in PSG), but as an agent, dealing with him is actually terrible because he gets as much as he can and always needs and asks more ... He never really denies the rumours for his players (he does the contrary of all the other agents who will say "no comment" or "my player will stay in this club"), which puts some trouble regarding these players ...

Going with Geo's post for a second, if Milan do end up getting Rolando and Tasci for defense, Poli and Sahin for mid and Dzeko in attack. Why did they have to sell Silva? Milan could have fund those 5 transfers in selling Cassano, Ibra, Mexes, Taiwo, Mesbah and Urby. I would actually be more piss than anything if Milan ends up with those 5 transfers.

Rolando - 15M asked if I'm not wrong
Tasci - should be 12-13M
Poli - should cost 5-6M
Sahin - should cost 10-15M
Dzeko - should cost around 25-30M
Mesbah (1.5M a year at best) and Taiwo (1.8M a year) won't allow us to get more than 5-6M (Poli + wage of Poli).
Ibra is sold 20M, which means his sale + his wage (12M a year) could allow us to get Dzeko, but not enough to pay him the wages.
Cassano (3M a year) wouldn't be sold more than 10M for sure, he would allow us to get one of these defenders at best (but not the wage).
Emmanuelson (2M a year) wouldn't be sold more than 5-6M for sure, which means we wouldn't have enough money to get anyone else (except free transfer or loan).
Regarding their wages, I think guys like Rolando, Tasci and Sahin could be negotiated at 4M a year ... Poli wouldn't be a problem (2M a year, something like that), and Dzeko would probably ask for 7-8M a year.
At the end, we win almost nothing from these changes, whereas the goal of the sales is to earn money too ... By selling the most paid players, that allows to rebuild the team (well, that has to be done the right way, I hope we won't rebuild with Aquilani and Brocchi for example) AND save money.
PS : Thiago Silva had a 6M a year contract on 5 years, and Ibra a 12M a year contract on 2 years, which means their sales give us 62M (without bonuses and low basis because we don't know the real price, it could be more) and we save (6*5+12*2)*2 = 108M of wages over 5 years.
And by calculating, I just saw how all my post can only be a "dream" and nothing else, we would spend more by taking these 5 players ... So that won't happen, maybe 4 of them (one defender, two midfielders, one striker). Would need to be calculated ...

Geo, I think you make sense about Raiola, but essentially I was thinking more about how he works almost in partnership with clubs he likes, also acting as an agent for the club to get certain players. Either way, he's gone now and there's no point talking about his value.
As for your proposed signings, I don't think we'll sign all of them, even with the money from Ibra and Thiago Silva. I think Rolando we'll only get for 10m at the maximum. I say this because Porto always overvalue their players and he surely isn't worth 15m. We'll probably offer something stupid like 5m to try and bring their price down, if we get him.
Tasci is similar, 12m might be a little more than we want to spend, so we'll probably look to keep it down to around 10m. We'll get one defender to replace Thiago Silva, but we'll only get another if Mexes leaves (I don't think Bonera or Yepes will leave in any case). In this regard, we won't use the Thiago/Ibra money for this second purchase, but rather what we get from Mexes/Taiwo/Didac/Mesbah. I want to say, Rolando if he comes is likely to come with a salary under 2m if rumours are to be believed, while Tasci imo won't be too expensive either. Speaking of Tasci, while on transfermarkt I did notice he has suffered what seemed to be a lot of injuries.
In midfield, Sahin seems a good bet, but first lets see what our plan is (we may decide not to get a regista). A midfielder must be bought, as we're lacking a starter in front of defence, with Sahin seemingly best priced for us. Again, it won't be more than around 10m, which is similar to what Real bought him for. However, with him we have to act quickly, as Inter, Man Utd, Bayern and others are also linked to him. For his salary, I think he's still fairly unproven at the top level and is apparently on 2.5m net at Real, so don't expect a huge difference there as his season at Real is effectively a write off. There's a possibility of getting someone like Poli since Strasser got injured, but I am certain we will only look for a loan deal with option to buy, as we'll have Ambro in reserve and are pretty well covered in all other areas of midfield.
In attack, I expect one big signing. This will be Dzeko or Tevez or someone of this stature. Dzeko seems most realistic given he's not only a big name, but also a player who can fit well into our system. More importantly, if rumours are correct and Man City get Van Persie, they will be desperate to sell at least one of their forwards as they have too many (they would have at least RVP, Tevez, Dzeko, Aguero, Balotelli and Guidetti). This works in our favour, with us gaining an advantage in Dzeko negotiations. Given City bought Dzeko for around £30m (some say 27, others 32), I think we can get him for 20-25m euros. There are a few reasons for this, with the first being Man City always spend overinflated prices and so his true value will be less. Secondly, if they're desperate to sell, then we have the advantage in negotiations. Thirdly, Man City haven't seen the best of Dzeko since buying him, so he's not as hot as he was in Wolfsburg, reducing his market value. Fourth, there's not a huge market for him, as PSG have Ibra, Barca have Messi, Real with Ronaldo/Benzema/Higuain, Arsenal with Podolski/Giroud, Chelsea have Torres and probably Hulk etc. Only Italy seems a viable possibility for him, with us, Inter and Juve all looking at strikers. This leads me to the fifth and final point, which is the player himself. It's well known Dzeko is apparently a Milan fan with a Sheva jersey on the wall at his home in Bosnia. Therefore, if we can work out an agreement with the player then we'll have a massive advantage over all potential competitors, while Man City will be forced to deal primarily with us. This is also valuable with his salary. Man City pay him 8m net apparently, which I presume is too much for us. I think we could comfortably agree with him a salary of 6m net (I'm sure he's aware he won't get the same money he gets at City elsewhere), while if we're clever, I think we could even look to negotiate a salary closer to 4m net. Also, I read on goal.com we're expected to buy Dzeko for around 25m.
We might also get another attacker, but only after/if we sell one of Cassano or Robinho. This would probably be a squad player who doesn't cost anymore than Cassano or Robinho.
Realistically, I think we'll see a spending of around 40-45m on replacements for Ibra, Thiago Silva and a new midfielder. Any other spending will be directly from any other players sold. This means from the PSG sales, we can recoup around 20m directly, while we save mostly on salaries, as if you combine the net salaries of Tasci/Rolando, Sahin and Dzeko, then it's still not as much as Ibra alone.

An expert who studied the Financial Fair Play rules is quoted on TMW saying PSG and City will very probably be excluded from any European competition in 2014-2015 (which means PSG have two years to buy as many big players as they need to try to win CL).
He explains that thanks to our sales during this summer, we should be ok with the FFP and as a consequence, we won't be excluded from the European competitions. Same goes for Inter, even if he claims that they still need to sell one player (Sneijder especially as he is their most valued player right now) to be ok. About Juventus, he says they'll need to adjust next season if they want to be ok too.
He also says that FFP is the main reason why Barcelona and Real Madrid don't spend that much this summer ...
And in his opinion, Chelsea, for example, will be "saved" thanks to the win in CL and the new deal about the TV rights in England.

Actually speaking of FFP, we should acknowledge that Umberto Gandini, who many of you will know as a director for us, is vice president for the European Club Association (which came from G-14 in the past). This group represents over 200 clubs in Europe and FFP was essentially sanctioned with their approval, as well as the process for gradual introduction (leniancy) of the rule.
What this means for us is that we have someone within the club who fully understands and appreciates the rule, as well as probably knowing how serious UEFA are about implementing it. I think this is also one reason why we're taking the law so seriously.
I think we're well on our way to short term adherence to the law with our current mercato strategies, something I've spoken about in my last post. However, unless we get investment in a stadium and more successful youth development, we're screwed in the next 3-4 years, or at least we won't be competitive.
