The only difference then was that Galliani had money. And with the sale of Balotelli, Milan suddenly has 35 million euro to spend on the market. So I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to get a couple of very good players before the end of the market.

I think, the problem with your logic lies in not taking into account what happened the last couple of times Milan made a high profile sale. We never spent the money we got for those players. Not on signings for sure. Maybe it all went to bunga-bunga.

The worst about selling Balo is that the guy we'll get will have a few days to fit in our team ... But weirdly, I'm not that surprised nor unhappy (and I'm not happy as well, I just don't care because Balo is potentially a WC player, but will he ever reach that level ? Nowadays, the answer is clearly no ... I hope for him and Italy that he will change, someday).

Anyway, like someone said, with now 35M to spend, we could reinforce the team.

We could imagine :
- Jackson Martinez (the problem Porto has is the player seems to want to leave) in two or more installments for 20-25M
- Cerci for 15M + one or two players
- Rabiot for 15M in two or more installments (he will be out of contract come the end of the season)
The addition of these purchases would cost [25;35] Millions in this mercato (depending on the installments), which means that would fit in our budget (especially if that's close to 25M as that means our management would save some money, which they like to do).

3 players improving the squad, they are all players who can run and work for their team, and they're not known for being unprofessionnal or trouble-making.

They would fit in the project of Inzaghi.

There's nothing smart about buying a player this late in the market. IF we're lucky, we may get him at a reduced price if a team is desperate to sell. On the flip side, other teams KNOW that we need a striker now so they hold all the cards. In addition, said player has missed the entire preseason, and the Serie A season starts next weekend. #forwardplanning #milanchronicles

When does Galliani not buy players late in the market? This has been standard practice for almost two decades. I remember us buying Nesta on the transfer deadline day in 2002 after losing out on Cannavaro, and everyone knew we needed a defender that summer. Hell, even de Jong joined us on the transfer deadline day.

Forget about Balotelli. He would have been a massive tactical problem this season, and selling him makes perfect sense. Galliani will bring in a solid replacement who is hopefully much more of a team player.
