I believe that Robinho was also used in that capacity at least in some games. For one instance, when we played Udinese in most time of which game that we were trailing, I remember that Robinho dropped extremely deep and very often got the ball off the defense line and travelled across the whole field before feeding the attackers. In Pirlo's former role, he often dispensed the ball through his precise long balls, but to me they were similar.

Another comment inspired by your article: when Ancelotti arrived, he replaced Albertini with Pirlo; I feel that Allegri is going down a same path - to put his stamp on the team. The question is now: who is Allegri's new "brain"? I hope it is Ganso. In my opinion, Ganso resembles Rivaldo, a perfect LCM who can be used in the center behind two attackers if necessary. I hope that we get him this summer and that he stays injury-free.

that depends on whether ganso is a brainy player, I doubt it. There are few players who can match Pirlo in that department. I would rather have Fabregas or Hamsik, I believe both are superior to ganso in the intellect department.

I'm going to guess you haven't seen a great deal of Ganso as his whole game is based on his intelligence. The guy's footballing intelligence is unquestionable, as he dictates matches and attacks and is a good user of the ball. His vision as well is incredible.

Andrea Pirlo is one of my favorite players, and I wore the jersey with No.21 on to Beijing and watched the game, although he has gone to Juventus at that time...however, he is always a Milan member in my heart...
