Is that due to the salary caps though. Bear in mind they might not be able to afford huge sums due to caps and Villa's career went downhill fast if I'm honest. I would assume his motivations are less about money and more about the football. I can't say the same about Kaka.

I respectfully disagree. I think Villa still has a lot to offer and can just walk into our first 11, which is why it surprised me to no end when he all of a sudden retired from European football.

I thought he must have left for money, but for 60,000 US dollars? That doesn't make sense. I am sure that AC Milan could have offered him 70,000? Even Albertazzi got paid at 100,000 euros. :d

Sorry forgot to answer this when I last posted. tbh, I'm not going to question Villa's quality, tbh I'm not in any real position to judge as I've barely watched him for years now.

That said, I do think his career's well past playing in and amongst the European elite or even second tier. This isn't about his ability, but rather he's become a forgotten figure and at 32 is fast ageing for a forward, if not already considered well past his peak years.

That's why I think MLS makes sense, because from a footballing perspective it's surely interesting to play in a developing league in a massive country where the sport is growing faster than any other. Money at this point might not be of interest (hence he's willing to accept low salary, which may be influenced by the salary cap in the USA), which is why he is where he is now.

Just thought it's worth mentioning that during the Fiorentina match yesterday, Sheva was the guest pundit on BT Sport. Was interesting to see his views on Milan in general (he thinks the club's rebuilding under Pippo and says Berlu's visits are key). What was interesting was when asked who was the best he played with, after a little hesitation in answering he said Maldini, for being a great player and man.

It's always amazes me how many identify Maldini as the best, both as a teammate and opponent. Let's not forget that towards the end of his time at Milan, there were rumours that Sheva and Maldini weren't always getting on too.

It was never something big, I just remember hearing something that they didn't always see eye to eye, as Sheva was apparently becoming a little arrogant towards the end of his time with Milan. How much is even remotely true is up for question imo, it might be totally false. It's interesting though, as Chiellini recently said Maldini was his idol too, though the image of them two I remember most is Maldini grabbing Chiellini by the neck during one match for being well...Chiellini.

Also worth noting that apparently Sheva's a professional golfer now and is doing his courses for coaching badges.
