Seeing this first thing today was a massive disappointment. I will say I think he's genuine in what he's trying to say. He risked his job to get Rijkaard to Milan and he valued Gullit almost more than anyone in his Milan for the strength he brought to the dressing room. I also believe he has a point with saying more Italians need to be shown faith (as I said commenting on Silvio's latest comments), although frankly at youth level it's much less of a determining factor than at senior level, so I fundamentally disagree with his point in that respect.
All that said, his comments are terrible. What he says IS racist even if he's saying he's not. Worse still, the very fact that he can't seem to understand how his comment is racist is just ignorant. It's really disheartening to see someone who fundamentally shaped my view of football and someone who I genuinely looked up to in the sport make these comments.
With the club owner seemingly a right wing nationalist and an all round horrible person, the longest serving player a self admitting fascist and now possibly the greatest coach in the club's history and one of the biggest influences on my view of the sport being racist, I'm incredibly deflated.
It's interesting because my view is becoming more and more like Gabriele Marcotti on being a supporter. He supported Inter when younger, but stopped as he became a journalist, as he struggled to positively identify everything about them and had respect and admiration for competitors. You can see his comments on it here:

My view is similar these days. I supported Milan since I was a child and frankly for all the good that I saw back then, there's little denying that when it comes down to it Milan has a dark side that many of us, including me, will turn a blind eye on and instead focus on the more romantic elements. The same goes with other clubs, lots will have good and bad about them, things I admire, but others which I loathe.
This is just another one of those things, something I loathe.
