My thoughts exactly...but they are under no obligation to sell to just anyone that triggers the clause...so if two or more sides are bidding, then I presume it would be the one that both goes highest above the €10m and satisfies the players personal demands ...or something like that...
I LOVE MILAN
As one of the Witsel proponents here, I think we should all clarify one thing. Nobody is saying Witsel is the new Pirlo or Fabregas and would save our midfield single handedly. What we are saying, however, is that he is a player with quality and would add certain qualities that our midfield currently lacks. He may not stand out in one particular area, but it's the completeness of his game, from passing, dribbling, vision, physicality and defense, that makes him special. These complete midfielders are all the rage in modern day soccer, and for good reasons, because opponents cannot target him and try to exploit his weaknesses. These guys can do many jobs by themselves and therefore alleviate the pressure for the rest of the team. Expecting Witsel to be our savior is a day dream, but expecting him to improve us overall is reasonable, imho.
The Witsel vs. Soriano debate really should come down to one thing, who is the better player between the two? If Soriano is considered a higher caliber player, then by all means we should sign him. But, just based on all the things I have read, most people in world soccer seems to think Witsel is the superior player. Now all those people could be wrong (Chelsea, Man U, Juve, etc), but I don't think I or most of the posters here are good enough scouts to really make that judgement call. There is a huge difference in price tags between the two, but if Witsel is indeed the superior player, I am not sure what the logic of picking Soriano over him would be.
Lastly, I don't think anyone is looking at a potential Soriano deal like the Matri deal. Those who believe Witsel is the better player obviously want the better player to be signed. But if Soriano is the one holding up the Milan shirt by the time season begins, I for one wouldn't exactly jump out of a moving train because of it. Soriano is a good player who can do nice things for us, I just happen to think Witsel is more accomplished and superior (at least for the time being).
What would be devastating is if neither get here....lol...however I am starting to sway to the side of Soriano, only because he's cheaper, and will require less acclimatization.
Witsel might have more experience and more exposure at a higher level (ie world cup), but if his price is prohibitive then the choice is clear:
Pastore!
Well...as was said, if its Soriano, I wont be disappointed.
I LOVE MILAN

The thing I don't get is some of those qualities you mention, I just don't see at all. I agree his passing (in its consistency rather than quality) and physique is impressive, but then I've never considered him anything above average in dribbling, vision or defence (which I mentioned earlier). What makes you say he's good at these skills? I'm no expert on the guy, I've watched him probably 15-20 times since he broke through at Benfica, but just don't get why he's so popular. I get what you're saying about him being a complete midfielder, but I don't see him having the overall quality to really warrant being described that way.
You mentioned that in world football Witsel is considered the superior player compared to Soriano, but where have you seen this? I've looked for articles on Witsel to get some background on the guy (i.e. like the fourfourtwo article I posted about Soriano) and haven't ever seen anything. Obviously there's the rumoured interested clubs you've mentioned, but that's purely rumours. By that token we can say Soriano has caught the interest of Napoli, Juve, Bayern, City and Dortmund, not a shabby list of clubs.
I don't get why Soriano is written off as inferior right now, I struggle to see evidence of that being the case. Thing is, I don't consider Soriano a great signing, I've always said I think there a big risks in getting him and expecting him to deliver. However, with a 15m signing, I can understand that. Witsel will cost 30m+, for which I expect a level of guarantees or enormous potential and I simply don't think Witsel provides either.
There's clearly a lot of hype surrounding Witsel and clearly people rate him. That's what's really frustrating me, as I really don't know what people are seeing to rate him that highly (not that people rate him, but that I think I'm just blind to something here). On the other side of the coin, I've seen a lot of doubts cast on Soriano with calls of him being he's just an average player (mostly other forums and a comment which I disagree with), but having watched him a fair number of times now, I can understand why there are people who are excited about him and his potential.
I will support whoever, if anyone, comes, but I've just found it very difficult to understand the expectations surrounding Witsel.

I don't think Witsel is a special player, and apparently neither do Chelsea, Juve, Man U, etc....because none of them are going for him, let alone pay €35mil for him.
One player singlehanded can not fix our midfield problems, but can surely help a great deal. And if you are going to spend 35mil on a player he sure as hell better make everyone around him another level better. I don't think Witsel can do that from what I've seen. And honestly, there is nothing special about his passing, dribbling, or vision. He's got physicality, but imo, that's not what we need.
Edit: Dev, I just saw your post after I wrote mine. Just wanted to respond to your question of "why do people rate Witsel so high?"
Honestly, it's simple hype imo. He had a good season at Benfica, good appearance (the "cool" factor"), does some things decently, Zenit pays 40mil for him = automatically he must be world class. I doubt people watch the Russian league week in week out....and from watching him in te CL and with Belgium, I haven't seen anything to suggest that this guy is worth 35mil. It's the same exact situation of people rating Brazilian "talents" because of a cool name, a few dribbling tricks, a couple of articles that claim that's the next big thing.
Witsel is a world class midfielder, so there
Rumor has it that Paletta has an agreement in principle with Atalanta, but have told them to wait until August 25th as Roma are interested too.
I would not be happy if we sold Paletta for the previously rumored 2m to Roma. We should ask for a much higher sum or ask for some midfielder (Roma has tons of them) as exchange.
Milan isn't made of money. In today's standards we have upper mid table money. With that said we shell out some serious loot for Romagnoli as he is the new nesta. I don't know how we are going to put more money forward for an older player with less potential in Witsel. We are getting closer with making a good team. We shouldn't settle on these players because they add more. We just need to wait until the opportunity arises and a player comes up who can take us to the next level. The super teams like Real and Manure are constantly burning through stars.
finally someone with the same thinking about witsel with me, i dont get it why wcmilan adore witsel far more than soriano or poli or nocerino, i think they all the same caliber of player as of right now, and for the price tag that those 2 have, i prefer soriano over witsel any time.
truth is i wish we go for a more creative type of midfielder, but looks like the club/miha really want soriano.
