I am thinking that player's personal demands would be the deciding factor. If Soriano accepts our term, then all it takes to have Sampdoria release him should be the required €10m and not one cent more. The club should be obligated to release/"sell" him.
But of course, maybe I misinterpreted it and I wouldn't know.

I don't know how we are going to put more money forward for an older player with less potential in Witsel. We are getting closer with making a good team. We shouldn't settle on these players because they add more. We just need to wait until the opportunity arises and a player comes up who can take us to the next level. The super teams like Real and Manure are constantly burning through stars.
You are making a good point, intentionally or not. I like the deal of Romagnoli because despite that the fee seems high (25m really isn't too much IMO), he is not on a high salary. I believe it is only 1.5m. Young players have potential to grow, and they know that they don't have to be on a huge salary already. Unlike older "champions" like Essien, they would demand a high pay but that will be to reward his past (which wasn't even with us) and not his future. Combined with the tax law in Italy, betting on young and upcoming talents always beats "investing" on older players, financially, since Milan isn't made of money which I totally agree.
Xu, that's unfair... I posted both articles on Soriano way before you did.
You just made quotes out of them!
We got the young 'un's. We take out big gunz

The way we have spent, I'd say we have 'top 3 of the table' money. At least for Serie A.

Top 3? l don't think so!
Your destiny is midtable. You think you can pass Roma by signing their 2 rotation players? Your team looks inferior to theirs in every department. Only Bacca and D.Lopez can start in Roma. They have Dzeko now.
Roma and Juve are too strong for you. Napoli has better team than you. l think Napoli is favourite for 3rd place. Lazio signed a great player in Milinko-Savic, this guy is great. You could have bought him but you signed Roma's rotation player for 20 m euros LOL. Please sign Bartra and Sergio Roberto for 45 m euros. Please. Roma created a team for winning championship thanks to you. LOL.
l don't know how far İnter could go. Let's wait for their other new signings. İf they sign quality players and Jovetic stays healthy, they will be in race for top 3.
Let's be realistic
Roma and Juve for winning championship.
Napoli 3rd place
İnter top 5
Milan 6th-12th. Depends on Bacca and D.Lopez's perfonmance.

I agree his passing (in its consistency rather than quality) and physique is impressive, but then I've never considered him anything above average in dribbling, vision or defence (which I mentioned earlier). What makes you say he's good at these skills? I'm no expert on the guy, I've watched him probably 15-20 times since he broke through at Benfica, but just don't get why he's so popular. I get what you're saying about him being a complete midfielder, but I don't see him having the overall quality to really warrant being described that way.
You mentioned that in world football Witsel is considered the superior player compared to Soriano, but where have you seen this? I've looked for articles on Witsel to get some background on the guy (i.e. like the fourfourtwo article I posted about Soriano) and haven't ever seen anything. Obviously there's the rumoured interested clubs you've mentioned, but that's purely rumours. By that token we can say Soriano has caught the interest of Napoli, Juve, Bayern, City and Dortmund, not a shabby list of clubs.
I don't get why Soriano is written off as inferior right now, I struggle to see evidence of that being the case. Thing is, I don't consider Soriano a great signing, I've always said I think there a big risks in getting him and expecting him to deliver. However, with a 15m signing, I can understand that. Witsel will cost 30m+, for which I expect a level of guarantees or enormous potential and I simply don't think Witsel provides either.
There's clearly a lot of hype surrounding Witsel and clearly people rate him. That's what's really frustrating me, as I really don't know what people are seeing to rate him that highly (not that people rate him, but that I think I'm just blind to something here). On the other side of the coin, I've seen a lot of doubts cast on Soriano with calls of him being he's just an average player (mostly other forums and a comment which I disagree with), but having watched him a fair number of times now, I can understand why there are people who are excited about him and his potential.
I will support whoever, if anyone, comes, but I've just found it very difficult to understand the expectations surrounding Witsel.
Before anything i would like to say that I am not a professional soccer scout, and probably doesn't have the greatest eye when it comes to talent evaluation. As such, my way of evaluating players could be way off the mark.
That being said, Witsel doesn't have to be excellent at everything to be considered a complete midfielder, he just doesn't have to suck at anything. You mentioned that other than his passing and physique, nothing else is "special", which could be true. But is he average or slightly above average at those other things? Because if you combine good passing, and physical attributes with decent dribbling and defense, you would have a pretty complete midfielder, no? Last I check, nobody thinks Yaya Toure is the greatest defensive midfielder in the world or has the greatest passing, but he is still one of the most complete midfielders in the world. Again, I would like to reemphasize that I do NOT think Witsel is the new Yaya Toure or Fabregas. I just think he is better than the midfielders we have and therefore should be a welcomed addition to our team. I am sure there are better options than him for 35M, but well, those options may not be available or won't want to sign with us.
When it comes to the perception around the world for both players, I really can't provide any solid evidence to you as to who thinks Witsel is higher rated than Soriano. I am just not sure where I could possibly find solid evidence to support that, lol. When I look at the two, Witsel is a national team player who is a guaranteed starter for Belgium NT and participated in WC whereas Soriano is a fringe Italian NT player. Witsel has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in soccer for a few years now, whereas Soriano was barely relevant in Serie A until last season. Again, these are not concrete proof that Witsel is higher rated than Soriano, but then again I wouldn't really know what would be concrete proof unless we do a huge survey across all the major soccer clubs in the world lol.
Since we happen to have the cash this year, we should simply go out and get all the good players. Looking at the market, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of good options for midfielders out there, so we have to sign who we can get. Witsel is not a home run signing, but he is an upgrade who is available. I would love for Fabregas, but what is the likelihood that we can get him? And if we decide not to sign Witsel, what can we get in his place for that money? If the answer to that is, we will keep the cash and wait for another day, then honestly, I do not see the point.
Just my two cents on the situation. I am sure a lot of people don't think Witsel is that great, and I respect that opinion and even agree with it to a degree. But to hate on a player like Witsel when all we have is Poli, Nocerino, and Montolivo is just hard for me to understand.
I actually forgot to post this yesterday with all the discussion on Witsel, but the ever reliable Tuttosport ( ) suggests that Milan could offer 10m plus Jose Mauri on loan to sweeten the deal.
http://www.milannews.it/calciomercato-mi...one-184629
I've got to say, I actually really like the idea. Jose Mauri's got a lot of potential, but if he's sat on the bench at Milan then it's going to be wasted. He's probably around 5th choice at best right now, so it seems he won't see huge amounts of match time. A club like Sampdoria is a step up from Parma last season and could benefit his growth. I would like a minimum appearance clause if possible, ideally based on him playing a set number of minutes through the season or Samp pay a penalty.
Xu and Warro, while the release clause is 10m and therefore Samp can't specifically request more for Soriano, I believe the higher prices is driven by the competition among the clubs chasing him. Samp might be obligated to sell him at 10m, but if all the clubs offer the release clause, they can still choose who they sell to, obviously with consent from Soriano. That's why clubs are going over the clause value. Of course, the worst case for Samp is Soriano is set on one club that's offering the minimum clause and won't accept any other move, but I have doubts how much Soriano would resist seeing as he's being chased by big clubs and I think wouldn't want to leave Samp on bad terms after they've been good to him. I think he has a preference for Milan, thanks to Mihajlovic and essentially a likely starting spot, but I don't think that's the be all and end all to negotiations.

One player singlehanded can not fix our midfield problems, but can surely help a great deal. And if you are going to spend 35mil on a player he sure as hell better make everyone around him another level better. I don't think Witsel can do that from what I've seen. And honestly, there is nothing special about his passing, dribbling, or vision. He's got physicality, but imo, that's not what we need.
Edit: Dev, I just saw your post after I wrote mine. Just wanted to respond to your question of "why do people rate Witsel so high?"
Honestly, it's simple hype imo. He had a good season at Benfica, good appearance (the "cool" factor"), does some things decently, Zenit pays 40mil for him = automatically he must be world class. I doubt people watch the Russian league week in week out....and from watching him in te CL and with Belgium, I haven't seen anything to suggest that this guy is worth 35mil. It's the same exact situation of people rating Brazilian "talents" because of a cool name, a few dribbling tricks, a couple of articles that claim that's the next big thing.
Yeah, I think we made pretty similar points. I figured it might just be hype, but where's the hype generated from? Plus, we have some really reasonable posters advocating the move, so I'm inclined to believe there's more to it. Anyway, I think my best bet is if he comes (looking highly unlikely right now), I'll judge him then. I doubt my opinion will just change until then.
Real Madrid interested in Kovacic for €35 million + €5 million bonuses. Also Coentrao may be included in the deal. Not an offer we can match and Inter would probably prefer not to sell to us anyway. Let's keep on browsing the market.
Official: Simone Verdi to Eibar. Loan with option to buy.
So a lot of Italian journos claiming that Inter sold Kovacic. What happens to Isco now? Wouldn't it be just wonderful if we got him. I am nor aware of their rotation system so not sure where he stands in the pecking order.
