TORONTO -- Ottawa Senators star wing Martin Havlat was suspended five games by the NHL for kicking Boston defenseman Hal Gill.
Havlat will lose more than $66,000 for the suspension. He will begin serving the suspension Friday, when Ottawa visits the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Colin Campbell, the NHL director of hockey operations, cited a two-month period during the 2003-04 season when Havlat was disciplined three times in two months, including a two-game suspension for kicking.
Havlat kicked Gill in the groin during the second period of Ottawa's 5-1 victory over the Bruins. Havlat's kick came after he was pushed in the back of the net by the Bruins defenseman. Gill was not hurt and a penalty was not called.
On January 2, 2004, Havlat was suspended two games after kicking New York Islanders defenseman Eric Cairns in front of the New York goal at 9:56 of the third period. He also was suspended two games for a high-sticking incident in March 2004.
Havlat, Ottawa's first-round pick in the 1999 draft, recorded career highs with 31 goals and 68 points in 68 games with the Senators in 2003-04. He had two assists in the win against Boston as the Senators improved to 5-0-0.
Information from SportsTicker and The Associated Press was used in this report.
Seriously, what is this dudes problem ! Kicking ? When I saw the clips it was one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen !

Christopher
23-10-2005, 20:20
yeah we are going to have to thoroughly examine this "IRRESISTABLE" thing I mean really dissect it and tear it apart, have our way with it, and then consistently mock/ haunt Rae with the memory that the word was ever used
Apparently we are alone in finding the humour in that statement.....
Christopher
23-10-2005, 20:59

Canadiens could be Flyers' toughest test so far
By ED MORAN
MONTREAL - Forget the Rangers, Devils, Maple Leafs, Penguins and Islanders.
None of those teams - the Flyers' opponents this season - is what the Montreal Canadiens are right now. Not as far as Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock is concerned.
"In my opinion, this is the best team we are going to play so far in the season," Hitchcock said of the 6-2 Canadiens.
"They have it all. They're playing well offensively and defensively, their special teams are playing well, they have four lines that can all score and all create chances and they're playing at a very high level.
"As far as I'm concerned, this is going to be the biggest test so far. We're going to get a good read on where we are as a team."
If that is the case, and there really has to be a motivational message in what Hitchcock was saying to the press and his team yesterday, then this isn't a bad time to take that test.
The Flyers have won three in a row, and on Saturday night avenged an earlier loss to the Maple Leafs. They scored three third-period goals, and played the final 20 minutes the way they are supposed to be played, not the way they played in several previous games.
"This was three games in a row in which we've played at a really high level," Hitchcock said. "The last three games, when the game was on the line we played really well, especially in the third period."
Starting in net tonight will be Robert Esche, who is showing signs that he finally has shaken off the rust of the long lockout and is ready to be the starter the Flyers hope he will to be.
Esche has been in net for the last two games, allowing three goals on 44 shots. In today's wide-open game, those are good numbers. Overall, Esche's goals-against average has fallen from 4.58 to 3.04.
"It's what I expected he would be doing," Hitchcock said. "His concentration is up and he's starting to get used to the league and understanding how to play with the new rules.
"He's getting up to speed, and it's nice to see."
The Canadiens, coached by Claude Julien, are built for the NHL's new rules - a team of fast, skilled players. Alexei Kovalev leads the team in points, with 10, and Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder each have scored four goals. Goaltender Jose Theodore (3.01 goals against) has played seven of the eight games.
"They have good skaters," Peter Forsberg said. "You look at the rule changes, they should favor a good skating team. We have to be ready when they come out. We know they're going to fly. Especially at home, they're going to come out hard. It's definitely going to be a hard game for us."
Keith Primeau agrees, but doesn't think it's all about the changes.
"It's not just the rules, it's their mind-set," he said. "They're checking well, they're checking hard. They're really competitive in all the right areas. It's going to be a big test for us. It should be a fun game."
Painted mask
Antero Niittymaki unveiled his newly painted goalie mask, which has a depiction of Prohibition-era gangster Frank Nitti, a reference to Niittymaki's nickname.
Said Ken Hitchcock, who took credit for giving his Finnish rookie goalie the nickname: "I guess I was the first to call him that. I never thought in my wildest dreams he would go put it on his bloody mask."

That is Hilarious Chris. this is gonna be a real fun couple of weeks...well for me. Not so much for Philly... ;)
Milano, since you have decided to take on the Flyers, you should know. The Habs beat them pretty good last night ! ...he he he

Its a long season we are only 8 games in I am frustrated but not worried.
Oh no way. Chris !! ... first let me tell you all, Philly was really pissed about the game last night, very angry about the loss until I reminded him "we are 8 games into and 82 game season " Hmmm and then there it pops up !

I would like to again annouce my undying love for the Montreal Canadians without them Jaques Plante would never have been a great goaltender who then went onto be the Philadelphia Flyers goaltending coach and the man whose Protiege was Bernie Parent who went on to be a force with the Flyers and was the back stop to the their two Stanely Cup Victories.

ever heard of a fluke thats what Habs get no one can beat Flyers
Fluke: an accidentally successful or lucky stroke....
I wasn't sure if you knew the defination, so hopefully you are clear now...lol
Is that your long history in hockey speaking there Milano ? Why not ask Philly how the Flyers ACTUALLY played against us .....
Zednik's recovered, should be back for the game vs Ottawa tonight. Will be interesting to see where he plays
GO HABS GO

I will nip this in the bud right here . . the Flyers played like crap.
Zednik's recovered, should be back for the game vs Ottawa tonight. Will be interesting to see where he plays
GO HABS GO
I am personaly a fan of Zednik, as a player. However it appears as though his return cost us the game. Now I don't like to ever lay blame for a loss on one specific player, but it seems as though it is appropriate in this case. What's your opinion on that Rez ?

28-10-2005, 08:42
Once again I have to acknowledge my undying love for the Montreal Canadians without them John Leclair's talents might not have become obvious to Bob Clarke and he might never have been included in a rather lopsided trade that sent Mark Recchi to Les Hab's for Eric Desjardins and John Lecalir and some other dude who I can't remember. Leclair after scoring two game winner's in the cup finals went onto have three straight 50 goal seasons, and two 40 goal season with the Flyers. Including two 4 goal games against his former team (Montreal), and torturing them with many more hat tricks and goals in the following seasons.
Ok wait a second Philly.... I don't think these statements are quite what I had in mind ....AND YOU KNOW IT ! I'm not going to bet with you anymore.....you don't play fair ;) Although I know you believe you have found the loophole and are quite cleaver.....really, not so much ! ...lol
Chris, despite what Leclair did to this day I like that trade and consider Recchi one of the best of NHL's recent past.
Staci, I think his 'dumb' play cost us but he is a very good player and will be one of our stars of the season
Christopher
28-10-2005, 13:47
Chris, despite what Leclair did to this day I like that trade and consider Recchi one of the best of NHL's recent past.
See I can't honestly believe you think Recchi was with both Desjardens and Leclair, while Recchi was mighty good the Canadians the team didn't excel with him there.
I really think that the ultimate goal for any big, ambitious team in a big trade (or one that turns out to be big unexpectedly) is to bring the cup, not only a 50 goal scorer here and there. Thats why eventhough statistically it wasn't a match it didn't deliver much beyond that.
Christopher
28-10-2005, 19:19
well the Flyers did get the cup in '97 largely because of that duo . . . and a couple of eastern confrerence finals . . . however second place is also first loser . . .

I am taking this time to state my undying love for the Montreal Canadians a team that played and beat the New York Rangers last night! Kudos!
Chris has decidedly chosen to find and use the loophole of this bet. Gooood Joooob Philly. Remind me not to bet with you again. Typical American.
But on the note of the game last night. It was great to see Theodore, back in action, I've been waiting for that, although it just goes to prove that his consistency is horrible. His potential is undeniable, why can't he keep his crap together ? At any rate he did a goooood jooooob ! And what about Begin's and Kovalev's goals...wow. It was nice to see some play that was not off the point shot !
At first sight it seems as if this thread is a conversation between one person

Wow. Poor Khabibulin must be wondering where he ended up. Chicago Blackhawks just post three games in 6 days to hated Detroit Red Wings. I go to school 3 block away fomr the United Center, but I don't thin I will be going to any Blackhawks games anytime soon.

I would like to pledge my undying love to the Montreal Canadians because they are the only proffessional team left in Montreal long gone are the days of the Shamrocks, Wanderers, Maroons, and AAA.
i wrote something on hockey in another thread so im gonna paste it here
yeah wanna comment on this...
hockey?!... wtf?!?? ... what kinda sport is this??? its run by sick people!!! ... i was in a sports management lecture the other day and we were taking sports law, and the moore bertucci (or whatever his name is) incident came out, and we were asked what should be the consequences of bertuccis act... apparently bertucci for no reason comes from behind and hits moore in the face and it leaves moore unconsious and severly injured and could cause him losing his career... what i found very funny is that one of their arguments, is that bertucci should only pay a fine because many believed that moore's NFL career was gonna be over soon anyway... wtf??? thats no excuse for hitting some1, imagine i go to van basten before he retires and pull out a tommy gun and rip him appart, do i only pay a fine?!?!
ok back to the consequences thing, alot of people believed bertucci should be suspended from playing in the NHL again, my question is why??? ... because by rules he didnt do anything wrong, he was only unlucky that moore was sooo badly injured, arent these fights normal??? ... i was in a restaurant yesterday and this hockey game was on and every 2 minutes there would be a fight, and the refs are just standing there looking at them, and there are 3 or 4 refs... why the **** would u want so many ref to look at a fight?!! the whole place oes crazy when they fight... what kinda sick people are they?? ... shouldnt the NHL apply new rules to stop these fights??? its not like their trying, yet when somebody is sooo badly injured it becomes a problem and no one blames the NHL, its bertucci or whatever his name is.
LOL! Thank god I dont play hockey. My mentality is that if there is going to be a fight... en garde! Why are you bringing your fists to what is essentially stick fight??? Football??? Hey I got cleat sandwich for anyone ready to taste it. Hmmm good! Yeah it is becoming an embarrassment for Hockey that they let this go time and time again. It shouldnt be a big surprise what Bertucci did when they let this kind of practice take on the slippery slope effect. We see this in many aspects dealing with life and the ability or lack thereof to have some kind of decorum in mannerisms. Take as an example simpy eating in a dining hall on campus. If their is lack of upholding some kind of table etiquitte and some enforcement of such decorum, an unlikely event such as a food fight will most likely happen! And this is what I see is going on with the NHL these days. Plus they dont even know how to fight! Getting boring and so out of style already. What dont we all fashion the mullet hairstyle again for goodness sakes!
OK....WHOA!
The BERTUZZI incident is NOT the norm of any game in the NHL. It was an very unfortnate incident. I saw the replay probably no less than 200 times. It made me just as sick and angry the last time as the first. Do I personally feel like Bertuzzi's punishment fit the incident ?, no I don't. I felt that Todd Bertuzzi should have not been allowed to return to the ice until Moore did. However as mk stated it, was definately a penality hit but not punishable, off the ice. It's a risk you take with any sport you play. It's a game, and futhermore I have no idea what the heck you guys are talking about in regards to the fighting now. EVERY TWO MINUTES ? ..... Seriously, you may see a fight every 3 or 4 games now. I don't know what game you were watching mk but there is a pentalty called every 5 min it seems sometimes more !!! Let's rememebr here boys, the hits and the fights are part of this game. But with the new rules in place it has all but removed that aspect of the sport. Hockey did become extremely violent for a time, well times change, now that has been pretty much taken off the ice, they new rules give the game these ridiculously high scores, most goals of which are taken from the point shot. That's not hockey, there is no finesse now. The defensemen are basically moving pylons. This was all done apparently to attract Americans to the sport .....BTW the sticks are very rarely used as weapons.
Let's keep it in persepective, Moores injuries were horrible, and like I said it was sickening to watch that hit, the way Moore hit the ice, but that was never Bertuzzi's intent and that is just common sense.
If you want violence, watch a football game some night....throw the ball...hit someone...throw the ball....hit someone. That's ridiculous

Wow, I really have to disagree here. No finesse? The rule changes are all about finesse. Note how skill teams such as Montreal have improved with these new rule changes, and hard checking/trapping teams have failed to adapt i.e. New Jersey and Calgary. The increase in goals hasn't come due to point shots. The games are all about a speedy transitional game. With trapping having little effect and the crackdown on obstruction, the game moves from end to end so smoothly. All the benefit goes to teams that are about finesse and actually play hockey like the Senators and Canadiens. All you have to do is look at how many odd man rushes there are in a game, it is a thing of beauty.
As for the physical aspect of the game being gone, I don't necessarily agree it's just now a defenceman can't really only and size to push a forward of puck they actually have to have some speed and skill.

What you are describing isn't hockey its the ice capades, so if you want to see a bunch of people skate around on ice and do some fancy peroettes or sow cows got watch the Stars on Ice or something, hockey is a physical sport and right now it is lacking . . . and yes Staci is correct a majority of goals are coming from the point shot because of the extra area they added in the offensive zones . . . and the abundance of power plays handed out . . . they need to figure out away to allow defensemen to defend rather then act living moving cones because right now thats all they are.

So you honestly prefer the old NHL to the new one? You'd rather watch the old trap fest? I love the physical aspect as much as the next guy but come on now, watching guys fight for the puck in the corner isn't near as appealing as back and forth oddman rushes.
I have no problem with defenceman laying guys out and playing old fashioned defence. My problems was with all the hooking and holding through the neutral zone. That's what reduces the flow of the game. Don't worry, defenders will learn to cope with these new rules. I think they are much better for the game. Maybe they aren't perfect, But it's most certainly an improvement.
Christopher

Yeah I could stand to watch a game where it was played a majority of the time at with five guys on the ice for each team . . . the product right now just something that is inherently wrong, they need to even out the game it is way too lopsided, and yes I do like the grinding in the corner like I said it isn't the Ice Capades, its hockey.
All I'm gonna say is that this morning on TSN there was in fact a segment titled ......"RED HOT HABS!"

That's ridiculous
thats not my point.. what im saying is that fights in hockey should be considered against the rules, whover fights has to pay a fine for what he did and hell have to miss games, in football when samuel was thought of spitting at nedved, he got banned for 2 games i think wasnt it?? ... why does a sickening incident like the moore one have to happen for the NHL to realize that fights are actually dangerous... they should remove fights from the games because its absolutely sick to see what happened to moore!
and the funny thing is that when i argue with my suite mates over whats better, they call us hooligans!!! .... were not the ones who jump around like monkeys when 2 idiots on the ice punch 'the pads' out of each other!!!

I only needed to read this far to figure out that you don't know the history and code of conduct of the game . . . which is okay. First of all nobody in the modern era of hockey or as far as I know has ever died or been critically injured from a hockey fight in the NHL, the Bertuzzi/Morre incident was not a fight it was a cheap shot there is a difference. A fight is when two guys drop their gloves and square off to fight like boxers on ice, it is an "understood" code amongst players in the league that once you drop your gloves and stick you are challenging and accepting a fight . . . fights happen for many reasons they happen to protect star players examples of Marty Mcsorlely proctecting Wayne Gretzgy and Dave Shultz protecting Bobby Clarke are to famous ones. If one teams tough guy goes after your teams star player then your team sends out its tough guy to get even once again that is the understood code of conduct or gamesmanship as some call it. Fights also work to keep dirty play at bay instead of cheap shots players will fight, instead of using your stick to break an ankle or cut someones face up fights occur, fighting inthe NHL is neccessary to keep games from getting out of hand, if they take fighting out of the game you will see far more incidents of the Bertuzzi/Moore nature, and due to the influx of European talent (who tend to use the sticks instead of fists) you will see many more injuries, believe it or not but the stick work is far more dangerous then a fight.

what?? thats ridicoulous!!! ... on ur reply to the post before the one u just u replied to... u said that u agree that bertuzzi's punishment wasnt deserved and he should return once moore can... and now ur saying he threw a cheap shot??? ... if so then i change wht i about the situation, and i think that bertuzzi should be banned for life, if it was indeed a cheap shot, then it means he would have meant it, he should have perfectly known that any punch could kill a player, and this goes to my point, its a fact that the siplest of punches can cause alot of damage, it may happen once in a year but when it happens are u gonna ignore it as well?!...
haha... they fight so that it wont get out of handle, since when was that a solution?? havent u ever seen politics, more fighting more war... its a rule in life... the more u fight the more problems pop up... i dont care if its in the rules or not... what im trying to tell u is that they should remove it from the rule book because its dangerous and life threatening
oh sorry ... i thought it was staci since u have her avatar
but im still content with my response though

Firstly.... Let's keep in perspective that when I said that I thought Bertuzzi shouldn't be able to return to the ice until Moore did that was very obvioulsy a personal opinion. Bertuzzi was penalized according to league rules and standards. This incident was very obvioulsy a cheap shot ! If Moore had come out of a regular gloves off fight with the same injuries then it would still be an outrage, however he would have known the consequences of dropping his stick. Moore didn't get the chance to make that decision.....Bertuzzi took it into his own hands and that is why people are upset. I'm not understanding what you are just NOT getting about this game. Fighting has and always will be a part of it. What specifically is your problem with the fighting in hockey ? Which btw has all but been eliminated, so I still have no idea what you were referring to when you stated that there were fights every two minutes, that's ridiculous ! Every sport has something that a non supporter is not going to understand or like. For example my statement about football....throw the ball....hit someone. To me someone who DOES NOT understand the game it makes me want to scream, however to a die hard like Philly, it is why the game is played....See my point ! It's not always about understanding it MK, sometimes it is about accepting it the way it is and loving it anyway ! GO HABS GO !
Well lets go back a few more years and see where this fighting all came about. I know many Canadian traditionalist that believe fighting IS part of the game but and HOWEVER the way it was done back some 20 years ago is that each team had their ONE yes ONE designated "open a can of whoopa$$" sniper player who was the enforceer of the team. He was the guy that laid pain and waist on the other opponents when needed to. He was also the man responsible to breakup a fight between two players who werent in the role of enforcer. Their way was an honor code back then. Today you dont see that. You got scrubs fighting scrubs. You got guys who shouldnt be fighting... fighting. Everbody now thinks they're the big boss on the ice and it never used to be like this.

Kui....come on. Hockey just like everything else will evolve whether or not we like it. What fun would it be if everythign stayed the same ? There was a period of time where even I thought things had way too out of hand, however things have swung too far the other way now. Let there be rules but let there be a cerain level of play that allows the game to be played with which it was originally intended.
I'm just explaining the history of the game and what some canadians tell me what they dont like or how the game is played today. Many want a return to the enforcer tradition rather than the punk scrubs pickin a fight.
Ask any NHL fan and they will be able to tell you the names of the enforcers of at least 5 teams. It is still very much part of the game....the code if you will. HOWEVER !!!!!!! The players in today's NHL are not only fast skilled players but also players who can and will defend themselves when need be. That is where the evolution that I spoke of comes into play.
Wait....did you just say you were explaining the history of the game to me ? ....lol Oh well then ok thanks ! ;)
Wait....did you just say you were explaining the history of the game to me ? ....lol Oh well then ok thanks ! ;)
Yeah Staci I'm a learned sage of all things of historic note. History of Ancients, History of Business, History of Canadian Constitution... ( yeah you heard me), Hostroy of US. History of Middle East Affairs, Asia, Pacific, Europe, near past and Ancient past. A know it all of all matter pertinent to what has happen in the past. Including the History of Hockey mind you.
Well I had no idea I was in the presence of such a knowledgable historian, an egocentric sure, a know it all....yep, but I will certainly back off my opinion considering your obvious vast knowledge in all that exists past and present.
I bow to your greatness ....lmao !
THAT Kui as Philly likes to say ....... is a kick in the JUNK !!

Well Philly has much wisdom yet to gain. He's got promise. I was at his level of wisdom at the age of like 4 or 5 years old.
Now for the person in question. When asked who do you most admire, the answer was myself because of my modesty.

Have you nothing left to say about the topic that was actually in question ?.... you know, HOCKEY ? With the vastness of your knowledge that you claim to have I expected a great deal more of you. Hmmm have to say though I am not surprised, you know, you being a citizen of the US and all, you would eventually bring the conversation around to what you like to talk about most.... that being, YOURSELVES !
In that case Philly is wise beyond his years! Come on now Canada vs USA! We Americans may disagree on a heck of a lot of stuff but when you go against one US citizen you go against us all. I dont know why I was silent in not help poor old Chris out earlier. I thought he was holding his own but their seems to be one tough Canadian Iceberg in town here. Looks like I'll have to sink her.
Oh don't worry about Philly...he can hold his own. You on the other hand I'm a little concerned about. You Kui, simply put like to type as many words as possible to get your point across in hopes that people will tire of your opinion and give up ! Chris hits home with one liners....lol And as far as you being silent I think you know better than to challenge me ....;) You haven't achieved the appropriate level of sarcasm yet. And as far as Canadians go.... the rest of the world likes US...not like you loud Americans. So go ahead do your best, let's see where it gets ya. BTW....um hate to point out the obvious but this is still the NHL thread !

I'm not understanding what you are just NOT getting about this game. Fighting has and always will be a part of it. What specifically is your problem with the fighting in hockey ?
i GET the game rules, and i know fighting is part of the game, what im saying is that it shouldnt be anymore, whats so hard to understand about that?
tackling from behind in football was part of the game, now its not, because it was dangerous, fighting will always be dangerous, cheap shots or not, if it was boxing you were talking about id understand, since the point is to knock the fcuk out of ur opponent, in hockey the point is to outscore your opponent and not to fight with them, it may become a bit different without fighting but the whole point of the game is still there, and u know what?? itll also be safer!
Which btw has all but been eliminated, so I still have no idea what you were referring to when you stated that there were fights every two minutes, that's ridiculous !
it was the bruins vs the penguins, and i can recall around 8 fights from the period ive been in the restaurant, i was laughing with a friend how pathetic the game is because it looked more like the WWF but with protection.
Every sport has something that a non supporter is not going to understand or like. For example my statement about football....throw the ball....hit someone. To me someone who DOES NOT understand the game it makes me want to scream, however to a die hard like Philly, it is why the game is played.
sorry i dont get what u dont like about football?? u can throw the ball on free throws and i cannot recall anyone intentionally trying to throw it at some1 :haha:
...See my point ! It's not always about understanding it MK, sometimes it is about accepting it the way it is and loving it anyway ! GO HABS GO !
i have nothing against hockey nor do i care who beats who, or who wins the stanley cup, but somehow nobody was loving it when moore got injured, and i blame it on the NHL.
fighting is a part of hockey... and a very exciting one. I can not imagine this game without real fights. It's sport of males, and we use to fight. It's natural. Every male should fight for his rights etc. :D
HOCKEY - ROX :rock3:
I am still NOT understanding WHY you thinking fighting should not be a part of hockey anymore. Accidents happen, what Bertuzzi was not an accident but rather a cheap shot as we have already determined. Moore's injuries however were..... A lot of what was once allowed in the game has already been removed from the sport, or they are now being penalized for it. It a damn sport, the hitting is part of the game. It always has been and always will be. And the Football I was referring to was American football. Let me just add here that if you don't care about any aspect of it, then why have such a specific opinion on it ? Just curious
I'm still wondering what NHL means.... NO Hitting Ladies??? But lets beat the cr@p out of each other.
Are you serious ? It's National Hockey League ! AHHHHHH Americans !

oh my god... ok nevermind! ... ur right i shouldnt give a damn a guys career was over due to the stupid rules since i dont give a **** about hockey, just remember the next time something similar happens
That's not what I was saying and I think that was obvious. I'm sure you noticed that I too was more than highly unimpressed at not only what happened to Moore but also with Bertuzzi's punishment. I believe (as stated earlier) that Bertuzzi should not have been allowed back on the ice until Moore is able to return, however those aren't the rules, just MY opinion. But what I understood your opinion to be was that fighting should be removed from the sport altogether, which is ridiculous. It is a definate part of the game plain and simple. The Bertuzzi incident has nothing to do with fighting.... it was a sickening cheap shot with horrible repercussions.
The "code" that Philly and I were referring to is an unwritten agreement between players, for example in Montreal's Tuesday night game Begin was approached by a player for a fight, the player had dropped his stick and gloves and was egging him on. Begin was not going to get involved, so he held his stick and kept his gloves on. There were a few slight pushes back and forth but nothing happened. WHY ? Simply because Begin wouldn't drop his gloves. Had he done so the fight would have immediately ensued. But nothing happened.....however penalities were still handed out ! There is some honour among the players, they still respect the game and what it stands for. The sport should not be judged on the actions of very few.

the only reason you were going back and forth was because you refused to acknowledge that STACI IS RIGHT. . . and in the process you have also displayed an amazingly limited knowledge of hockey to really have a valid or valued opinion.

To end this arguement a classic example of the why there is a need for "the code" in Hockey has already occured in this young season. Let it be known that Todd Fedoruk is a tough guy . . or a fighter or a goon. However if you read his quotes you will get a further understanding of the code in hockey and how the new rules which have worked to eliminate the code and can actually create more injuries and problems since the players can no longer protect themselves.
Ducks' Fedoruk suspended three games

Anaheim's Todd Fedoruk has been suspended three games for his hit Tuesday on Phoenix's Petr Nedved.
Fedoruk publicly stated after the Coyotes 2-1 victory over the Ducks that he was exacting revenge for an earlier hit by Phoenix's Denis Gauthier on the Ducks' Joffrey Lupul and Todd Marchant.
Phoenix winger Shane Doan was also fined $1,500 for fighting Fedoruk at the end of the game and thier was fined $1,500 for his hit on Lupul.
''It was something that had to be addressed,'' Fedoruk said after the game. ''There was a guy (Gauthier) out there with a visor on running around like he's King Kong. He's not going to back it up. If the refs aren't going to call stuff like that, it falls on the players. You can only take so much, watching your teammates get late hits, high hits.

Gretzky not fined for instigator penalty
''In my eyes, it's an eye for an eye. I don't ever want to see anybody get hurt, but when my players get hurt, I feel obliged to send a message that I'm not going to let this happen. I think Nedved can thank his teammate for what happened.''
Both Nedved and Lupul suffered what appear to be concussions from the hits. Fedoruk received a match penalty for his hit, while Gauthier was not penalized.
Sources say the league has not yet decided whether Gauthier's hit on Lupul - the more questionable of the two Gauthier hits - is worthy of supplementary discipline.
wahahaahahahaahhhowwwww
ok ... staci is right... now lets all go and put our skates and beat the crap outta each other!!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
so much sense!

yeah i know.. i have limited knowledge on hockey... but u see... this isnt a test about my knowledge on hockey, infact hockey isnt the issue here shirlock! its about the stupidity of the NHL organization!!! from ur last post it seems theyre kinda improving on that, which is great, and which is what the hockey world needs, less fights... i honestly cant understand why some1 would argue against banning fights... when has a fight ever been good? ... the whole point of the game is to outscore the opponent, not beat the crap out of them!

heck, if figure skating includes sticks a put and goals then i might watch it, heck, come to think of it, hockey with or without fights is a dull game IMO.
... heck!
Sad to see that this thread has been so quiet what with all the whoop-la going on, on a day to day basis in the NHL. But for now the arguments will have to wait as we put forth our hopes on the best from our home countires to play for gold in the Olympics ! Canada all the way !!!!

Ms. Gretzky involved in some betting action implicating the Great One.
Habs Goalie Jose Theodore looking out for his hairline and getting bad media coverage for the wrong reasons in the process.
Canadian Olympic team once again facing great expectations...and bad press bringing the likes of Bertuzzi to Torino..
and the return of STACI to Milanmania...
Whoop-la indeed....

Well Canada had won their first game of many beating Italy out 7-2. Apparently it took our boys a whole 20 minutes to warm up...lol Must be because they had no Tim Horton's to start their day ;)
Good Job Guys !!!
I'm not impressed with the team...Brodeur let in two weak shots and for a while they were actually tied...if ITALY could control them for a whole period other teams will MAIM them..they better wake up or better yet put LUONGO in goal!!
Shhhhh... I know that Billy and you obviously know that.....but do we really want to share that insight with the rest of the world ? As far as they know we play a great game ending in a big win for Team Canada ! We "are" hockey ..we are Canada and this is what we do... oh btw did you hear Ron talking about someone playing Stomping Tom in the stands ...lmao

I'm glad to report here that the U.S.A only TIED their game yesturday against Lativa thus already putting them behind us where in fact they will remain for the rest of the games. It's sad though because it has caused our American Philly to cheer for Norway....which btw doesn't have a team playing..... Shhhhh he won't even know....lol

Actually I always try to support our neighbours latvians cuz we are only two baltic nations in the world and both very small, so we gotta be together everytime. They support our basketball team, we do the same with their hockey squad. We are brothers. Like you and czechs. ;)
But Latvia is not a very strong team, so when they usually eliminated I cheers for canadians.

Yeah I know that the relationships with Russians are not very good in Baltic countries, know the history well.
And with that Czechs, yeah I support their football team but never the hockeyers...they are such big-headed(not all of course)...especially Jagr...hate him...
yeah I also support Lithuanian basketball team,I liked your style...especially on the Olympics,I wanted you to win...Maybe I won't write it properly but I like No 6 I think Maciavskas...
we beated them 6-3 but it was a tough game they played really well. That Ozolins is pretty good defender but our 4th goal was after his big mistake...
So you support Sweden?well i like also Suomi(especially Selanne) except us of course...
Well, actually I support all teams who goes against russians & belorussians ;) Sweden is not an exception. So one evening I supported Slovakia, another Sweden, this time it will be Kazachstan -though I dont like it too much too :hmm:]
About czechs, I should say I shall cheers for them tonight against Finland. I do not know but I do not like fins too much, the same is in Formula 1.
PS: and that one who weared 6 in Olympic Games was Arvydas Macijauskas. He is a sniper! By the way he is from my hometown :tong: However it's very hard for him these days in NBA, cuz their coach is an insane one and does not let him to play.

I personally have nothing but SHAME to throw towards the team. They had no grit..no heart and no passion and much like Inter expected things to come to them...ironically, the scorer of both goals Paul DiPietro was a former Montreal Canadien who helped them win their last cup and then ushered out and eventually ushered out of the NHL at a young age. Nice way to slap the NHL back in the face..
P.S. I blame the Americans for this loss Philly...our Canadians have become spoiled playing for US teams and US dollars and as a result are lazy rotten primadonnas....! :5milan:

Oh Billy... you dont know what you're talking aboot. It is not that they became spoiled. They became greedy. How the hell can anyone blame them??? It is probably more accurate to also say that they were lazy rotten primadonnas with a smaller $$$ check back in Canada. Now they are dirty rotten primadonnas with a bit more "bling". Not to worry they still tip kinda sh!tty in true Canadian fashion from what I hear. You can still be proud of that! I lived in Manhattan once upon a time in my univ. days and I can say that the best place to get Pizza in New York was shipped from Montreal. New York Pizza is not acceptable if you don't mind the Italian delicacy eating it with Ketchup and crap like Pinneapple and bacon on it.
Montreal Italians arrived in the 60's and as a result there is still some REAL OLD SCHOOL places to get pizza where Cheese-crust, bacon and pepperoni is banned. New York Italians arrived in the 1910's and as a result that crap they call Pizza is not even a spitting image of what their ancestors brought over.
P.S. Sorry Stace but Ontario Pizza is just as crap as America's 'cheese filled crust' crap however you can take solace in the fact that despite our European flair and style Montreal is still part of Canada :devs:

Well I don't know if they are too Americanized as you suggest...if that were the case they would have 40 plus year olds on their team and lose to teams like Latvia :googly:
End of the day, Canada will capture the Gold .. we are just very spoiled hockey fans...rightfully so :w209:

Huet (pronounced EW-EH...for all non french Canadians...lol) records his third shutout in his last seven games as the Habs win 1-0 over the Florida Panthers. It really was a game of the goaltentenders, did anyone else notice that Luongo was still sporting his Team Canada Helmet ?.... I was glad to see that, I think we Canadians know why he did. Anyway now at this point each win for Les Habitants is monumental for keeping us "ABOVE THE LINE !" ...lol We are two games less and four points ahead of our closest competitor...Atlanta.
More importanly...Toronto has slide to 11th......he he he. Next week we face Philly (care to make another bet Christopher ?)....Toronto and Boston...

well the Flyers are on bad form right now . . the injuries are starting to catch up with them . . espcially loosing Super Keith for season now . . I think loosing him has had a tremendous effect on their season and it is really starting to show . . they lack the sniper that they need . . they lack goaltending and they need another defensemen . . teams struggling but I will make a bet with you just for fun sake maybe whoever looses that person has to dye their hair?
Okay...although we both know that isn't a stretch for me Hun. But I guess it depends who picks the colour...lol

yes I apparently sustained a head injury in my sleep so I will need some coddeling for a bit I think come monday I should be back to my old self
Well it's Monday Christopher ...and I'll bet your not any better. Why ? Cause your team is Philly Hun and you are taking the hits lately.....
Montreal has been winning ever since the Olympic break and it doesn't seem to be letting up. The game Saturday night was awesome ! Some old fashioned hockey plays going on... they could have timed this any better, when all the "big boys" seem to be falling apart, the Canadiens are in fact coming together. How long it will last is anybody's guess, don't get me wrong they aren't playing like allstars of anything, but they are winning and that is what matters in crunch time. The win ! Now tonight we are playing the Flyers and even before they crumbled they were still unable to be Montreal...apparently we have their number !
So Chris...get that old Flyers attitude you had in the beginning of the season and muster up a bet in support of your boys...... On another topic..have you heard Bertuzzi is being traded to Philly ?
I am totaly frustrated  Both Canada and US lost to russians... I am screwed up totaly...

Well they should have Gagne back tonight which would help since they can't score to save their lives . . dear in Philadelphia we call it as we see it if out team stinks then guess what they stink and the need to pull their heads out of their butts and play harder, they are a better team then this. It is interesting a guy who my Father works with has kids of play squirts with some of the kids of flyers players and he has been able to talk to them and they feel that it is the injuries that are causing and extreme lack of Chemistry on the ice. Last week was the first time in 36 games that they had the same line up two games in a row . .. that is pretty devestating. Non the less I expect a bit more grit from them tonight, they need to play with anger and emotion if they do that I give them a little bit more of a shot to win . . the Habs are hot though.
I have not of the Bertuzzi rumor this year, in the past it is always rumored that he would get traded to Philly but it has never happened, Bob Clarke does like him though and he would be an instant fan favourite. We could use a guy who does nothing but put pucks in the net. Only thing is what do we give up to get him? Where did you hear this? The philly papers have nothing about it, niether does tsn?
Just the NHL rumour mill.... it's all a buzz with only a few days left before the trade deadline.
I see you are covering your bases for the game by stating injuries and that the Habs are HOT ...lol Gooood Jooooob
So care to make face and bet on the game or not ? The last bet was a huge success and very very amusing...well for me ...lol

Ok well first of all..... I am really glad I didn't read this before the game, secondly although I didn't accept this bet I will do it. Mtl are doing so bad :(
All I have to say is...... AWESOME !
The fact that the Habs have pretty much been Carrolina's b!tch all season...and then start out with a 2-0 in the series. Amazing, I truly expected this series to go to four, and not in Mtl's favour. They definately tried to lose in the second period by spending it in the penalty box but alas...pulled out a win anyway. I am stunned and very very happy :)
Go Habs Go, allowing 5 goals but still winning on the road is huge

Looks like the Flyers are going to make an early exit from the playoffs this year. It is too be expected though, they had to many injuries this year, and their defense is too slow. They need to make some changes in the off season.

So my football season ended in another disapointment with the Eagles not even making the playoffs, my soccer season send ends without a Champions League trophy and the hope for a surprise Scudetto which problably wont happen and if it does I would be completely shocked and run throug the streets of new york naked, And tonight my beloved Flyers lost their series in the playoffs . . to Buffalo a low class town with a low class team, I hate Buffalo. What do I do tonight besides drink? I am so pissed off.
Ohhhh Edmonton makes the Americans work for the cup. Going to Canada ....home for game 6 ! Great game last night.
And it begins....
Game 1 preseason....Montreal vs Boston
Ah, what a wonderful time of year, a crispness in the air, the leaves changing to beautiful shades of Autumn. HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA begins ....lol I have personally vowed to take it upon myself to make Jamie and Sant legimate hockey, no not just hockey but Habs fans. It should make it an interesting season. ET LE BUUUUUUUUT ! ;)
I almost forgot Rahul.....you ready ?
Rez..... I have two extra tickets for the Toronto game in Montreal...Monday February 26th. They are whites centre ice. You'd be sitting with Philly and I .....lol
[QUOTE=rahul.acm]Guys, I am not a gr8 fan of Hockey, but this movie Miracle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349825/) completely changed my mind!
I just found this thread and I love it... being from Canada I am a huge hockey fan, and about the only team I love more in life that Milan, is the Montreal Canadiens.
As for your comment Rahul (i might be late) that is a good story but the movie is hollywood, you want to see real hockey at it's best check out this link below:

This was the rookie of the year last year in the NHL, scored fantastic goals, threw around his weight and played for a terrible team without complaining. He is one of the future stars of Hockey, and after watching this video I think anyone can see why it's the most exciting sport in the world.

New to this board and, more particularly, this thread.
Didn't check all of it, so I don't know how many Ottawa Senator fans are here.
My best friend got me into hockey and, more importantly, the Sens.
I rooted for the Canadiens when they had Jose Theodore. Now I sorta root for the Avs because of him. Hopefully he has a better season.
My guilty pleasure is the Capitals. Being from Baltimore, I get to quite a few games.
Can't beat Ovechkin, can you?
And I think Dainius Zubrus is amazingly underrated.
That's the end.

The only team you love more in life than Milan is the Canadiens ? Oh are we ever gonna get along ! Actually there are a few other Habs fans if you can believe it. Rez, for one and I am currently in the process of making fans out of Jamie, SANT and Rahul (you'll notice his avatar) ...lol As a Canadiens fan I'm willing to bet you were glad the first two games were preseason as we have gotten our butts kicked. Unfortunately they weren't aired so I didn't get to see what the heck happened. I would have liked to see Price play, but there is a whole season ahead of us. I did watch the Flyers vs Penquins game. I saw the Malkin injury....wow, dude really took flight. They said it was a result of the ice surface being so wet. He apparently was seen later without a sling but is going to be evaluated today. Considering everything he went through to get to the NHL I hope he is alright.

I am there :D
Welcome to the thread to all Habs and also non-Habs fans ;)
Go Habs Go
Staci,
You are right the Habs didn't look so great but who cares it is preseason and means nothing. I live near Toronto so I can't take the Leafs media, they think because they beat Ottawa last night the Cup is coming to Toronto... as they do every year. Drives me nuts... Raycroft is the saviour, oh no wait, Peca is the one... Domi retires and you'd think he was Gretzky they way they play it up here... IMO the Leafs are the Inter of the Hockey world! Yeah I said it.
Cheers to tears in Leafs fans beers!
LMAO !.... Yeahhh somebody who understands ! I also live not too far from the big city, and most ok well probably 95% of my close friends are all BeLEAFers...makes me nuts ! There is a Canadiens alumni I can't remember right now but anyway who once said.... "There are more cups won in Toronto before the season starts" ...lol Truth be told I love the way the build them up....makes their fall even more enjoyable to watch. I hate Toronto as much as I love Montreal. It's just good clean fun. I'd love to find a good hockey forum, if you know of any pm me.
going to go watch the dianamic duo tommarow. Pens vs Rangers.
When in the world are the players and more importantly the refs ever going to catch up to the "new" NHL ? Maybe we should play 4 on 4 and assume someone would always be in the penalty box.
A loss to the FLYERS ? ..WTH ?!?!

Yes Pittsburg in pretty much Ohio, I am from the Philadelphia area which is clearly Pennsylvania you on the other hand have nothing in common with me you have more in common with people from Ohio so Pittsburg should be in Ohio. You can't just be figuring this out now . .?
i would say you are more new jersey than pa... the burgh is more pa...
too bad about mcnabb...and the flyers...maybe next year.

dude nice try with the sports thing, I am old enough now to be used to that but good try your not going to unnerve me . . Considering Philadelphia and it surrounding suburbs far exceed the population of the Pittsburg I think you loose. And its soda not pop and Primanti Brothers sucks . . anyone can put french fries in their sandwich.
dude its coleslaw...
and i dont have any interest in a philly vs pittsburgh discussion.
do i hate the flyers...yes... all pens fans do.
do i hate the eagles...not at all... your in the nfc & we have no history...
i hate baseball...
i dont care what the population of philly is - or your views on which city is more Pennsylvania...really, i dont.
i do love hockey, and the flyers bad... your goons are too slow, the new nhl is flyin' by the flyers...

Once again I don't care if the Flyers stink this year, They wont be as bad as any of the penguins teams of the last six years. And Finally your opinion doesn't matter only mine does. Thank you. Have fun in Ohio. Crosby is a b!tch.

i would call crosby names too if i was a flyers fan...he has made your team look silly every time they've played this year. its healthy to vent, i hope that sneaky way you threw in that swear word makes you feel better.
flyers - 2 stanley cups...
pens - 2 stanley cups...
eagles - 0 super bowls
steelers - 5 super bowls
phily - dirty, tons of crime
pittsburgh - clean, safe
i have been to the spectrum, jfk and your city many times. i have lived in jersey, eastern, and western pa...and the only thing good in philly is your cheese-stake subs & the phillies macot.
doesn't Will Smith come from 'Philly'? He's alright, so you have to include him :D

LOL apparently you missed it the first time . . but my opinion is the one that matters because it is the right opinion. For the record my opinion is that Pittsburg which is part of Ohio sucks and is pretty much irrelevant in terms of importance.

will smith is actually the guy in the phillies mascott suit:

nah we have disowned Will Smith he is all LA we instead like to call upon Kevin Bacon and Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby would be alright if he could speak properly, he just jabbers away without making any sense ...
