Well, I decided to create official thread here in MM for some MUFC fans :tong: (and not only) cuz I feel that these forums need to have it eventually.

What about Butt in NUFC (http://www.fansfc.com/speculation_news.asp?sid=2110&fcid=52)???

We are United! Manchester United!

Glory Glory ManUnited!

OMG.. that guy is leaving lately... :(
He's a good player IMO and Sir Alex must have some considerations to let him go.
What kinda formation he will use next season??

btw, what about Gabriel Heinze the defender. is he already move to Old Trafford?

i would also leave if Phil Neville played instead of me.

What do you think your chances are to get Rooney? (Which may mean that RVN leaves for Real)

Stezagud

Wow, our own thread :D

Nicky Butt will probably be a Newcastle player by next weekend :( A true Utd player, Manchester born and bred. I'd be happy if he stayed but he has an England career to think about and Utd's sub bench is not the best place to try and get selected from (though Phil Neville's 40 caps suggest otherwise ;) )

btw, what about Gabriel Heinze the defender. is he already move to Old Trafford?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3735065.stm

We've signed him up for 5 years

What do you think your chances are to get Rooney? (Which may mean that RVN leaves for Real)

Well, David Gill today said that Utd can't afford Rooney at Evertons valuation. The press are saying that means only Chelsea are after him now but i don't actually think much has changed. Utd were never going to pay £45 - 50m for him and i don't think Everton expected to get that much either....

1 thing is certain though, they don't need to sell Ruud to buy Rooney :D
Utd can comfortably afford £40 - 50m on transfers each year and last years sales of Veron and Beckham mean that even though they have spent nearly £30M on Saha, Smith and Heinze, most of it was last years money

The only reason they wouldn't buy him is because they have already bought 2 strikers in the past 6 months.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha, Alan Smith. are they sufficient to win back EPL title and conquer europe?

I heard that MU already signed Gerard Pique from Barcelona, a spanish U-17 defender.
Hmm.. can't wait to start the season.
and where the community shield will be held? Millennium Cardiff?

Maybe, i still feel that Rooney may end up at Old Trafford too, just not for the £50m Everton want ;)

yeah Pique was their best youngster so its quite a coup :D I think it is Cardiff for the Charity Shield too...

so, when will Wembley finished the restoration? and how many seats will be available?

IMO Sir Alex sold Butt to give more chance to Phillip to play as def-mid. and since 4-2-3-1 didn't work properly last season, then Sir Alex will be back to 4-4-2 formation. United will play with two frontmen. :)

2006 I think.

For United, forget Rooney (He looks like Shrek didn't he?). Carlos Queiroz is back << 2004/2005 Man Utd Best Signing.

For god's sakes, the biggest manu forums (redcafe.net) full of annoying man-u haters that provocate all the time! Thx god, here at MM, the milan haters didn't do so.

For United, forget Rooney (He looks like Shrek didn't he?).

He does look like Shrek but he is still worth considering :) He is very much a Fergie type player, since Fergie joined there has almost always been a deep striker at United, from Hughes (who Rooney is most similar to) to Cantona then Sheringham and Yorke. The current team lacks a specialist in that role and although Scholesy has been successful there he is still seen as an attacking midfielder.

As i've said, Rooney is very similar to Mark Hughes who was one of my favourite players and the best volleyer i've ever seen

The tactics are all about Keane and as he will probably be a regular then he will again need someone to help with his running (his old legs can't do it anymore :( ) for that reason Phil Neville or maybe Djemba-Djemba will be a regular too...... EDIT - I forgot my prefered choice for the role, Darren Fletcher :D

No offence to any man u fans, but I hate Machester United with a passion. :punch: Rooney, I think he will only be a striker who gets about 15 goals a season. He will probably have a Shevchenko type season maybe twice in his career.

I am sorry guys to disrupt your wonderful ManU type of discussions but isn't this an ACMilan forum - we have often mentioned that all fans are welcomed here - even Inter fans - but as long as we discuss Milan.
So, I am not sure why the fate of ManU, Liverpool, and Rooney who is now deffinitely not a Milan target are discussed HERE.

vs Liverpool not Chelsea :D

That was a great volley, I think Cantona's best was the one at Crystal Palace in 95(?) a 25 yard looping volley straight into the top corner
I still think Hughes was better though, 1 of his volley's was so good that Barcelona bought him because of it  (back during the English in Europe ban in the 80's ) Another one was against Man City in 1989, Utd lost 5 - 1  but Hughes scored probably the goal of the season for Utds consolation ;)

what about the new United jersey? for season 04/06.

I personally prefer the old one (02/04) seasons.

Utd lost to Bayern in a penalty shootout in their first friendly but its not necesarily a bad result. Despite fielding masses of youngsters they held Bayern to a 0 - 0 draw

Nicky Butt is set to join Newcastle after Manchester United agreed to sell the Reds midfielder to the Tyneside club.
Butt, 29, will now finalise personal terms and complete a medical at St James' Park after returning home to England from United's USA Tour.
The club confirmed in a statement late on Monday evening: "Nicky Butt has left the Manchester United tour of America.
"Manchester United have agreed terms with Newcastle United pending a medical and Nicky Butt's personal terms."

I didnt really expect many goals :) Smith is not a prolific player and Bellion doesnt know what the goal is, though he's so fast he could probably bring home the 100m gold medal at the olympics ;) I can see it now, he's standing on the Podium in Athens as the crowd stand to hear the national anthem, Glory Glory Man Utd

What i was impressed at was that Bayern couldnt score against a defence made up of 3 teenagers and a legendary midfielder who's hips and knee's dont work anymore :D

well considering its only a year since he last raised the Premiership trophy, added to the fact that this is undeniably a transitional period then i think he has earned the right to a few more years.

what i meant about 95 is that i remember the moaning when Fergie sold Ince, Kanchelskis and Hughes, all 3 had contributed to the double. At the time the media and some fans were complaining, saying "how will we replace the Kanchelskis with a kid called Beckham?" and "how will that young Irish guy Keane step into Paul Ince's shoes?" Fergie answered all their questions and he deserves the chance to do so again.

yes, Gio. Here's what I got from United's official site, www.manutd.com

Jonathan Spector

D.O.B.: 3/1/86
Nationality: United States
Team: Manchester United Reserves
Position: Defender

Manchester United completed the signing of promising American teenage defender Jonathan Spector from Chicago Sockers in the summer of 2003.

Born on 3 January 1986, Jon is a regular in the United States Under-17 side and follows in the footsteps of Jovan Kirovski and John Thorrington as Americans who began their professional careers with United.

Jon also had offers from colleges in America, but decided to try his luck in England, with the lure of playing in the Premiership too great to turn down.

United will play Arsenal in the Community Shield, August 8th.
then Champions League Qualifying against Dinamo Bukarest (Romania) or MSK Zilina (Slovakia), August 10th.
and the opening match for Premiership this season against Chelsea, August 15th, at Stamford Bridge.

Obviously, many players become better since they quit from international duty, i.e. Maldini, Shearer and Keane. They showed great performances in the club level.
And it ain't about the lack of fighting spirit, Paul has 66 caps/14 goals for England and he must have such a specific consideration to retire. Life ain't merely football. :D

But you're right, It might be good for England as they can give more chance for youngsters like Joe Cole, Kieron Dyer etc.

United officials confirmed Van Nistelrooy will enter hospital for surgery on a sportsman’s hernia next week that is likely to keep the prolific Dutchman out for a month.

Having only played 45 minutes of United’s pre-season campaign so far, it is not known whether the former PSV Eindhoven man picked up the injury against his old club or whether it is a legacy of Holland’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2004.

Either way, it has left a massive hole in Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans for a demanding opening month of the campaign that includes United’s first four Premiership games - including the key opening weekend trip to Chelsea - and the crucial Champions League double-header with Dinamo Bucharest.

While Louis Saha and Alan Smith have performed encouragingly since their arrival at Old Trafford over the past seven months, the prospect of entering the new campaign without Van Nistelrooy, who last season became the second fastest player in United history to hit a century of goals, will be a worry.

The 28-year-old has rarely missed a game through injury since completing his £18.5million move from PSV three summers ago and tonight’s shock news means he is almost certain to miss Holland’s forthcoming internationals against Sweden and the Czech Republic.

The one bit of good news for Ferguson is that Van Nistelrooy should be fully fit for the group stages of the Champions League - providing United overcome Dinamo - and the injury may give an indication why the Red Devils boss was so adamant that Diego Forlan would not be allowed to join Levante on loan, even though the Spanish outfit claimed a deal had been agreed.

The summer arrival from PSV Eindhoven was dismissed for an altercation with Olivier Dacourt following a needless hack by the former Leeds United midfielder on Arjen Robben during the ChampionsWorld series match in Pittsburgh.

The FA, who under FIFA regulations have jurisdiction over disciplinary matters involving English clubs playing overseas in friendlies, received an official report of the incident from US Soccer.

The FA do not regard friendlies as counting towards any ban, and so have ruled Kezman must complete a further three-match suspension, which is scheduled to begin on August 17.

While the Serbia and Montenegro striker is now free to face Manchester United in the Barclays Premiership opener, he would miss the matches against Birmingham, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

It does make things easier for Eriksson when he picks his central midfield but he still has the problem of who to play left. I.ve backed the Bridge/Cole theory for years but he doesnt seem to like it

I dont think Scholes lacks fighting spirit, both Eriksson and Ferguie have said that Scholes has been talking about this for a long time, before Lampard was even established in the side. It is definately a decision made with his family in mind, as Argo said he is very much a family man.

Macari: England 'circus' made Scholes quit.
6/8/04 10:25 AM

Lou Macari was one of the few people who predicted Paul Scholes' shock retirement from international football.

The ManUtd.com columnist told Talksport listeners during Euro 2004 that he could see the United forward calling time on his England career, and he cites the player's aversion to the spotlight as a chief reason behind the announcement.

Lou told us: "Apart from the Press getting on his back, the whole England setup and the way they go about their business is not really for Paul Scholes - all the garbage that goes with it doesn't suit him.

He doesn't want all the Press conferences, the hullaballoo, the trips to Sardinia with Sven and Nancy, the bouncy castles at the training camp during the competition. I wouldn't like that, and I just get the feeling that Scholesey's a bit like me - someone who just wants to concentrate on football.

"It's not his scene at all, and it wouldn't be mine either because it's all crap. It's a circus. The only thing that's actually necessary - to go out and win football games - they can't do.

They can do all the rest. All they do is get past the group stage and then get knocked out at the next stage. When you see the Czechs and Greeks doing really well, you realise how bad a tournament it was for England."

Macari is in no doubt that Scholes' retirement will delight Sir Alex Ferguson and benefit United for years to come.

He said: "Without a doubt it'll benefit United. Sir Alex has a nightmare when international week comes around because most times he's got seven or eight players away. He's always got his fingers crossed that nobody comes back with an injury, and come back on time.

" I remember last season Diego came back at 4pm on a Friday from South America! It was ridiculous. Now Fergie has one less player to worry about, and I'm sure he's delighted it's Paul Scholes."

Arsenal 3 - 1 Manchester United
49' [1 - 0] G. Silva
55' [1 - 1] A. Smith
59' [2 - 1] J.A.R. Calderon
79' [3 - 1] M. Silvestre (o.g.)

Disappointing result but good sign. United oftenly lost the title when they won the Community Shield (or Charity Shield previously).
However United lost many key players and Sir Alex seems to sacrifice this match. Poor Ryan Giggs, he lost in front of his home crowd. :(
I'm looking forward for this season.
Cheers to Alan Smith, he scored in his official debut! ;)

Keane got better after he retired? Huh, he is far from what he was at his best and I saw no change after his international retirement. As for Scholes I think it is a very good decision for him personally, for some reason he always was mcuh better on a club level than in the national team. Now he can concentrate on what he did best ;)

well i think you and Argo are both right. While Keane didnt improve as such by retiring from International football, he has slowed the rate of decline considerably. His dodgy hip means he should only play 20 - 30 games a year now, but by not having to worry about International games he can spend more time recovering and play more games for Utd

As regards this roy keane and should he go back to international football?

The answer is he is coming back, he has already come back and its the right decision. In very simple terms his country wnts him and he wants to play for them. I think it will benefit man u anyway because it will take a load off his mind because of the circumstances in which he temporally stopped playing for Ireland. in fact he wanted to come back straight away when McCarthy was sacked but Ferguson vetoed it. Keane went through all last season without getting a major injury therefore proving to ferguson he has gotten over injury therefore what basis do man utd have to stop him playing for Ireland. As regards that he is not effective any more. he isnt cos hes older but he is still a top class player.

Also Liam Miller another Irishman played for Man U last night. A think he is a quality player but hes no Roy Keane. He is far superior techinally to Darren Flechter who played alot last year for man u though. What do the man u fans think of his chances of establishing himself in the team?

As regards this roy keane and should he go back to international football?

I do think it will be good for Keane to play for Ireland again as i think this will be his last year for Utd anyway, so he may as well make the most of it. He's been my favourite player for a long time but he just doesnt have the legs to compete with the very best any more. The trouble for Utd is how to replace him as he is more than a player, he is the leader.

Milan have a similar problem when Maldini goes but at least with Nesta already in place they have it half solved

Also Liam Miller another Irishman played for Man U last night. A think he is a quality player but hes no Roy Keane. He is far superior techinally to Darren Flechter who played alot last year for man u though. What do the man u fans think of his chances of establishing himself in the team?

I first saw Miller play for Celtic against Anderlecht last year and he played a brilliant reverse pass, i remember saying at the time "that was too good for the Scottish league" so its nice to be right for a change :D I think you may have been a bit harsh on Fletcher as he is barely out of his teens, Miller was nowhere near Utd's first team at that age either. Both of them need time to develop but there is plenty of talent there.

As for his chances of getting established, i think he could have done without missing pre-season. With all the injuries arround he would certainly have got his chance, probably on the right wing against Chelsea. With Ronaldo (Olympics) Solskjaer (Crippled :( ) and Fletcher (Suspended) all out he would have started for sure but im not sure if he's fit enough.

Obviously. It's coz I Manure a lot.

:D i expected you to pay a visit after the Chelsea game because even i can't see how we will win that one :( im praying for the miracle of Stamford Bridge :hopefull:

It sounds like Miller may start against Chelsea now and if so it will really be throwing him in at the deep end. I remember seeing him play on the right wing for Ireland a month or 2 ago and he did well (man of the match IIRC) so he probably will be ahead of Fletcher in the pecking order anyway, i just hope he gets fit fast.

I said before that i was hoping for a miracle and we didnt get it :sigh: but im more frustrated than upset. With all the trouble Fergie is having putting out a team i really thought Chelsea would dominate but in the end i was annoyed we didnt get at a point. Chelsea scored with their first meaningful attack and didnt create much of anything after that. From then on Utd dominated posesssion but had no poacher to get on the end of any moves, still over a month until Ruud's return

Regarding the quote up there. You think you'll need it? Well I am sure you will get it!! Just grease up to ease the pain

Forlan is leaving to Villareal for 2,5 M pounds.
U r right, Reza.. this is the thinnest squad. Actualy we've made some good signings, but unfortunately we had to missed some key players for various reasons.
Van Nistelrooy, Saha, Brown, Fortune, Solskjaer are injured. then Forlan is leaving. IMO United would survive with those players available.

btw, Smith's goal against Norwich City last night was wonderful. too bad we must conceeded one goal eventually, tho we won 2-1. United absolutely outplayed Norwich City but couldn't outscored 'em. :D
Keane played very good as CB, but IMO that wouldn't be sufficient to be played at the highest level of football. He did some good tackles and intersets, but he simply lost his speed (no wonder abt it). Sir Alex should return him back to his original position as def-mid.
Where's Heinze anyway? We're so so unlucky to sign him but have to lost him due to International duties, JUST in the time we need him most. :depress:

27 million????

you could have Rosicky, Beattie and Van der Meyde for less than that. Or any number of players (i just picked those ones because I think they'd suit Man U)

he is soooo over-rated, I dunno what the english media is saying about him, but the international football sources i consult rate players like Tevez and Sneijder much more highly. Plus he is loathesome to look at, if he was in my team I wouldn't want to go near him incase i got siphillus or something.

here's hoping he injures himself (not to badly, I'm not a masochist) tonight and man u delay their decision, then in 5 monthes after he's scored 4 goals we'll see if they think it's a good idea spending 27 million on him.

I expected this to be a tough month but i still felt we were strong enough to beat Everton at Old Trafford  3 more weeks until Ruud comes back, Chelski and the Gooners could be 15 points clear by then

When Ferdinand and the other defenders are back i wont worry so much about the defence but the problem now is creativity. Its been like this for a while now and Fergie has tried to fix it by going after Ronaldinho and Robben. Rooney isnt being bought to score 30 goals a season, he is the one identified as the link between midfield and attack that Utd need. If he did score only 4 goals in 5 months it wouldnt bother me if he provides the creativity to help Ruud get 40+ a season.

I mean even if he does fufill his potential totally there will still be players equal to him (i mean he has been pretty mediocre most of last season, it's not like he has been dazzling the premiership for 2 seasons now week in week out, ronaldo looks a better player in my opinion and cost 12m), Man U could have signed Cassano, Adriano, Makaay, Tristan, Crespo, Drogba, Cisse Saviola, Trezeguet this season for the same amount. What man u are doing is gambling £5 in fruit machine with a £5 jackpot. So many things could go wrong, he could be the next Francis Jeffers.

he hasn't the maturity and brains(he is clearly a brute rather than a thinker) to provide goals for at least 5 years and he couldn't score in a brothel...

terrible signing, Arsenal get Reyes, Chelsea get Robben and we get Rooney, half the player for twice the price.

But there's not one English player among those you mention - besides being an obvious talent who has already proved himself (unlike Ronaldo when they bought him), Manu is paying cash for Rooney's popularity. Had Ronaldo been english, his prizetag would have been astronomic as well.

Ofcourse Manu is gambling, but what about the likes of Veron, Kleberson, Forlan, (and perhaps Saha and Smith) who have been expensive half-solutions?

((In that perspective I think it's obvious that Wenger is spending money much more strategically.))

I understand your concerns and share a few myself, but i do rate Rooney very highly. As SonofBerlusconi says Utd are buying his popularity too, £25m sounds a lot but they will make most of it back in merchandising before he turns 20.

Also, from that list only a few fit the particular type of player Fergie is looking for, a deep striker. Id say only Cassano and maybe Saviola could do it. Cassano would have been good and Fergie did try and buy him 3 years ago but even then the price was 17m, and would he risk his fledgling International career by leaving Serie A??
Saviola has become surplus to requirements at Barca and if they dont rate him then why should Fergie want him??

he hasn't the maturity and brains(he is clearly a brute rather than a thinker) to provide goals for at least 5 years and he couldn't score in a brothel...

His vision was the thing that most impressed me last year. He could see passes that his Everton teammates couldnt but with England his link play has already become vital. He is still immature but with Fergie's help, and that of people like Giggs, Scholes Neville etc he will have enough people to show him how to live if you want to be a success.

the reason there's no english players in there is because england, in line with a team that hasn't won a major trophy, or even been in a final for about 40 years, don't produce a massive quantity of great playewrs. Unfortunatly the media don't realise this and anyone that is half decent as a teenager(*cough* michael owen *cough*) get pumped up to be the next pele. There are no english world class strikers right now, end of story, so of course a team looking for a world class striker (and i fail to see how a price tag of 25 million suggests they aren't) wouldn't be looking at an english player.

I think these players you mentioned more than illustrate my point, at least with Veron we thought we knew what we where getting but even spending 26 million on an established amazing talent does not guarantee success. Forlan and Kleberson where almost as highly rated as rooney (especially kleberson on he back of world cup 2002 success, bearing more than a little relation to rooney on the back of euro 2004 success) and yet they have failed to deliver, however they did not cost as much as 2 world class players.

we are getting screwed royally here.

Holland and Spain dont win much either, even Italy has suffered a lack of success for over 20 years, but none of this would matter to Fergie and he's the one who picks the targets. The only reason Rooney being English matters is that he knows the Premiership already, unlike Veron, Forlan and Kleberson, though Kleberson now he is over his injuries is showing signs of the form that prompted Utd top buy him in the first place.

If Brazil suddenly had an 18 year old kid, called Wayno Roonerio ;) who scored more than a goal per game at the Copa and outshone all his more established team mates then i would expect any big European clubs looking for strikers to be interested.

we are getting screwed royally here.

Having seen the break down of the deal (£10m now, £10m next year, the rest dependant on success) I think we have done well. Rooney is sponsored by Nike who will want to cash in on his rising status. Nike pay Utd £30m a year for the privilage of supplying our shirts. Their will be a lot of grey suited guys sitting around tables licking their lips at the potential money to be made here. David Gill was Utds financial director before becoming chairman and im sure he would not have given the green light for this deal unless he was sure the Plc would get their moneys worth.

i'm not a man utd fan at all, but having seen most of your games this season, i really don't understand why fergie didn't go for another midfielder. you've got the wings position sorted out, i.e. ronaldo and giggs, but scholes and keane are getting on a bit, and you've lost butt. now your left with kleberson and djemba dejmba in the centre, who are not wc players, your team lacks a midfield engine.

ps forza newcastle!

Saviola has become surplus to requirements at Barca and if they dont rate him then why should Fergie want him??

The former president gave Saviola and Kluivert long term contracts that Barca simply cannot pay. Kluivert gained his unpopularity when refusing to take a paycut - other players accepted. Barca has/is simply being run by fools (and instead of being selfcritical they blame others for all their misery. Lol.)

Well, Barca signed new players to force Saviola out. They didn't want to sell him, they just wanted someone else to pay his wages for a while..
I doubt Fergie (and most other big clubs) would go for Saviola as long as Barca has an option of taking him back after a year...

well it's been done now. I don't think this is a good idea, his talent is being seriously, seriously over-hyped. I just hope someone in Man Us midfield can out-preform expectations (kleberson maybe could come good) to try and fill the gaping holes there.

That was what concerned me too. Utd will be in desperate need of a defensive midfielder when Keane leaves and at the moment none of the players already there seem capable of stepping up to his level, though a few have potential.
Utd have had trouble breaking down the smaller teams for a while and its all because when teams come to Old Trafford they string 5 across midfield and try and hit on the break. When Keane was at his best it didnt matter how many they had in midfield because he would still dominate them but now he needs another defensive player to help do the running. 2 defensive players central means the creativity has to come down the wings and it often ends up wasted.
To counter this Fergie had been trying to find a player to play behind Ruud, a striker who helps the midfield. Scholes does it well enough but now Rooney can do it and Scholes can drop in to central midfield where his ability to find time and space should make Utds passing more fluent. It might be enough for now but it doesnt fix the problem of how to replace Keane.

well it's been done now. I don't think this is a good idea, his talent is being seriously, seriously over-hyped. I just hope someone in Man Us midfield can out-preform expectations (kleberson maybe could come good) to try and fill the gaping holes there.

Last season I heard that Silvestre wanted to play only as centre-back, but IMO he's just TOO LEFT-FOOTED to play at center. :D
with Heinze's arrival, Sir Alex will have more options on our defense. all in all, Ferdinand is a "must". Look, how many times we conceeded goals from header and set-pieces (apparently England too).

Eric The King

Eric The King, he's remarkably trendy,
He's done some modelling around town,
Wearing the best suits up on the catwalk,
Whilst the Leeds scum they just frown,
On the field, it's almost unreal,
Some of the things that Eric does,
Superb overhead kicks,
remarkable back flicks,
I'm sure the guy just takes the piss.

He once played for Marseilles but never for Arsenal,
Or Liverpool or even Man City,
Landed in Yorkshire, a terrible blunder,
Which was ten months with the Sheep,
He's had his brief spell there with the Leeds scum,
But then he realised they were has-beens,
Only one way now for Eric to go now,
To the Theatre of all Dreams.

Eric is so cool, remarkably cultured,
He likes good music and poetry too,
Performing the fine arts on the field,
For the boys they call Man U,
He's a legend without any doubt,
He will reign for years to come,
We will stand there in admiration,
With countless more trophies won.

The end of November, we'll always remember,
As the time he made that special move,
Poetry in motion, the deadliest potion,
He's got nothing left to prove,
The King's still our hero, as well as De Niro,
But this ain't the movies this is real life,
He won't leave United, for that we're delighted,
Because this Club's his real wife.

Club Applies For Old Trafford Expansion

Manchester United have submitted an application for planning permission to expand the capacity of Old Trafford to 75,000.

If the application is successful, work on expanding the North West and North East Quadrants (the corners either side of the North Stand) could begin early next year.

Manchester United PLC confirmed the application had been lodged in a statement to the stock exchange on Friday afternoon.

The statement reads: "Further to the statement made in the Company's interim results announcement on 30 March 2004, Manchester United announces that it is today submitting an application for planning permission to Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council to expand the North East and North West Quadrants of the Old Trafford stadium.

"If planning permission is granted, the Board of Manchester United will take the final decision on whether to proceed with the project prior to the main construction contracts being awarded in early 2005."

Manchester United's forgotten man Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed to make a successful return from injury.

The Norwegian hitman has endured injury woe in the past few seasons and is currently recovering from a cartilage operation last month.

Although many have written off the 31-year-old Old Trafford favourite, Solskjaer believes he is more than capable of regaining his place in Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team.

''In my situation, I can only concentrate on myself and make sure I do all the right things in order to get back into the team,'' said Solskjaer.

''The thought of playing - that's not to mention scoring - in that red jersey again is the best motivation in the world.

''I have been there and I will be back. I will score at Old Trafford again.

''That's a promise to myself and to the Manchester United fans.''

Well, Ruud will play and thats good enough for now :D
Fergie may play his 4-4-1-1 with Scholes just behind Ruud but i would prefer a 4-4-2 with Ruud and Smith up front and Scholes in midfield. Against Lyon we had no decent passing in midfield and the moves were breaking down before the ball had even got to the strikers. Djemba Djemba's passing ranges from  to :dazed: and it was only down the wings could we advance with any fluency. If Scholes where in the middle things should improve.....

Id like Howard, O'Shea and Djemba Djemba out with Carroll, Smith and Rio put in.

Then we can play this:

------------------Carroll------------------

-Brown--------Rio-------Silvestre---Heinze-

-Ronaldo----Keane---Scholes-------Giggs---

-----------RvN----------Smth--------------

To me that is the best available line up at present  but more likely Fergie will keep Djemba in and play 4-4-1-1 with Scholes behind Ruud again. Liverpool have some very mobile midfielders so Fergie will probably try to contain them by crowding them....

I love Bolton, well they held us to a draw earlier this season, but they do it to Arsenal every year, now we can begin to make up the gap. This game is gonna be a turning point with us on Monday, Rio back, Rooney on bench, getting everyone back now, lift the team, get a good result, lift confidence and morale, get a settled team and cause havoc once again. But we must win, a draw is not good enough. As for Ruud man where would we be without him, unbeleievable!!! I have been really impressed with Smith this season, I would prefer him and RVN up front with Scholes partnering Keane in the midfield, whist Howard keeps dropping shots, get Carroll in!!

What do you think about Parma goalkeeper Frey, I have read, that he could replaced Howard.

Robert Green of Norwich is being linked too  stories about Utd sell newspapers so the press will say whatever they can. Howard is lacking confidence and i would prefer Carroll to play today for that reason. Wenger admits Ferdinand will revive United challenge
Sep 18, 2004

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that Rio Ferdinand's return to the fold will be a major shot in the arm for rivals Manchester United.

"He will have a huge impact," Wenger predicted. "For us it would be like having Sol Campbell back after eight months. You just have to look at the position of United when he was in the team and how they dropped when he came out of the team."

"With Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney to come, I would say it is not logical to rule United out of the championship because it is very early in the season and it is not very astute because they have had big players out."

O Shea played quite an attacking role and was ahead of Scholesy a few times, if his first touch had been better he might have had some decent chances

He isnt a bad midfielder and he certainly played better than Djemba has recently so he might stay in the side.

I think Rooney could make the bench for the Spurs match but i doubt he'll be starting for a week or 2 ;)

Typically Fergie, he always play a player in some different positions. maybe just in case if we're running out of players in certain positions. :D

This season our goal scoring record has been far from expectation (particulary comparing to Arsenal's :D ). maybe Sir Alex should modify the attack and one of the solutions could be an 18-year-old striker named Wayne Rooney. ;)

tho Rooney had resumed his recovery and already joined for practice but Sir Alex considered the other way. Likely Rooney will have his debut at Boro game, Oct 3rd.

BTW Cudicini has rejected United's 2.5 mil pounds bid. ;) personally I don't like him too much because he always played great against us but poor against Arsenal. :hammer:
IMO Sir Alex should sign a young decent English goalkeeper. as an English club, United should take the responsibility of the lack of GK at England NT. :D

yeah, they should wait until he is ready and if its October 3rd then so be it

I dont mind Cudicini but i think Howard and Carroll are both talented enough to make decent keepers, all they need is a stable defence in front of them.

There are 3 young English keepers who should make the grade, Kirkland, Robinson and Green. Of these, Green would be the easiest to get but i would rather see if he can perform at the highest level for a year or 2, anyway by the time he is proven, hopefully Howard or Carroll would probably have made the place theirs :)

There is one other possibility though, Utd have an excellent youngster called Luke Steele who is on loan at Coventry and the reports from them say he is better than Kirkland was at his age  maybe in a few years he will be ready to stake his claim for our no.1 shirt :)

Why should we sell certain players? IMO we don't need anymore players for at least this time being, because we've got 'em all.

I wouldnt be surprised if some players did leave though, its hard to see Djemba Djemba or Bellion becoming regulars and people like Phil Neville might want to leave to save their international careers (like Butt did)

P.S. I am looking forward to read our English boy - Stez attitude...

who can replace Keane?

I dont see anyone who is as good as Keano was at his peak...

of the players already at Utd, O'Shea maybe has the best chance as he is defensive minded and imposing but also quite good with the ball but he doesnt have Keano's drive or leadership though.

Outside Utd maybe Steven Gerrard is the best option, he can do it all and could become a true world class player but i doubt he would move to Utd and if he did it would cost £30m+. It is going to be a real problem to replace Keano so for now lets forget about it and instead think about what might happen when the Ruud, Rooney and Ronaldo share the pitch :D

Apparently everyone did.. except Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He would rather finish his contract to the fullest at United, tho he will be benched all the time. :proud:

if Liverpool coukdn't win anything for the next 2 seasons, then Gerrard might consider a move... :D hopefully to Old Trafford. ;)

Yes, Ole is a super hero. I can not forget his stunning finish of UCL final in 1999. :proud:

IMO, there is no need to conquer other clubs for Gerrard. We can play without Keano. And we have proved it. Though this loss would be painful...

Argo, not at all, pal, we are RED, so we should stay close to each other, we are force, we are invicible, we vote and support each other also...:D

You know what I mean:D

Glory gloery - Keano :proud:

Arsenal players in team bus scuffle
Fri 1 October, 2004 14:13

OSLO (Reuters) - Two Arsenal players were involved in a scuffle on the team bus after drawing 1-1 against Rosenborg Trondheim in the Champions League, Norwegian police say.

The pair, captain Patrick Vieira and defender Lauren, had to be separated by team mates outside the Lerkendal stadium in Trondheim after Wednesday's Group E match.

"There was scuffling and loud shouting. A security guard went on to the bus to calm things down," Hallgeir Stokken, the stadium police commander, told Reuters on Friday.

"Two other Arsenal players separated them. They were quite aggressive."

He said that by the time police entered the bus a few minutes later the situation had been defused, with the two players told to sit apart.

One report said that Arsenal's Edu, who lost possession just before Rosenborg's Roar Strand scored the second-half equaliser, was one of the peacemakers.

However, Vieira played down the incident on Friday.

"There was a discussion after the game but the stories saying that Lauren and I had a fight are rubbish," the Frenchman said in a statement.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking at his weekly news conference at Arsenal's training ground on Friday, described it as a "minor disagreement" and said there was no need for the police to get involved.

"Nothing major happened, it's a storm in a teacup," he said.

"I don't know why the police was involved. There was no need to go on the bus.

"It was nothing personal, it was about professional matters They (Vieira and Lauren) are two good friends and their relationship is fantastic."

The incident reportedly began as four or five Arsenal players, clearly disappointed by the result, were getting on to the bus to take them back to the airport, while some of their team mates were still giving interviews.

"The area was sealed off but there were police, security guards, fans and press everywhere," Stokken added.

He said there were about 800 Arsenal supporters at the game.

"When the British embassy called me, I told them I was impressed by Arsenal supporters but that we had more trouble with the players," Stokken said.

Arsenal top Champions League Group E with four points.

:D
even for one goal conceeded they were fighting each other, what if they got a "SHOCKED HOME DEFEAT"? They might kill each other. :haha:

What about Fergie's son Barry Ferguson? He has been the Blackburn's skipper and already got so many things in progress recently...

:D

He isn't good enough to clean Keano's boots ;)

He's not Fergies son either, the surname is quite common in Scotland. I think Fergies son Darren plays for Wrexham or someone like that. He had a few games for Utd at the start of the 90's but wasnt good enough so his Dad sold him  :D

5 mins remaining.. and it's now 4-0. Reyes!
btw Henry's back-heeled goal is awesome... tho I don't like him. :D

no Utd's match this weekend. my local tv station broadcasted Arsenal - Charlton this time, and Chelsea - Liverpool tomorrow. :(

contary to Serie A, we got 3 TV station to cover. 6 matches will be broadcasted live this weekend.

i didnt get to see any of the 3pm matches yet, we were shown the Southampton - Man City game

Chelsea - Liverpool should be a good game tommorow, maybe 2 - 1 to Chelsea.

Have you seen that Brown and Carroll could leave in January  their contracts run out next june and they have rejected Utds offers so far....Both of them have only just got into the team so its stupid to risk it over money, particularly when they already get £25,000 a week

yeah I've heard that..
Sir Alex pointed that it's about their agents, SFX - which is the one who arranged Beck's move to Madrid.

Apparently Sir Alex won't count on 'em so badly, so they might be leaving soon. :(

this season, nothing was going right for us in premiership, Rae... :depress: so far we have dropped quite may points that we should've won.

but Boro has been a trouble for us in the last few seasons, they always played great against us, but not against Arse... :wallbang:

btw this weekend Old Trafford will hold a crucial game, feat. England - Wales.
who is gonna win?

Damn Boro :( Steve MacClaren knows Fergies secrets and uses them against us. We still should've won though, its just that the best chances both went to Gary Neville, of all people

You're right though Argo, we usually do drop points to Boro. Blackburn and Bolton have been troublesome in recent years too so really only the Everton draw was completely unexpected.

well you can probably guess who i think will :D

Wales have some very good players for a country of their size, like Bellamy, Hartson, Davies and our very own Giggsy :proud: but they have a weak defence and England should score 2 or 3 comfortably.

Will Giggsy play?

i think so, he can torment Beckham as punishment for leaving Utd :D

IMO 3 - 1 for England, Giggsy score first and then come Lampard and Rooney twice;)

I think that Wales has quite strong squad, as a proof I take their stunning preformance during last qualification for Euro 2004... [stupid russians:mad:]...

yeah, i remember they beat Italy  they have good attacking players but hopefully their defence will not hold out. I dont think Robbie Savage is going to play and he is very important for them as a defensive shield.

Haha.. one thing I remember, if England ever failed to qualify from the group stage you'll quit football entirely..

did i say that? :p146: sometimes my patriotism gets the better of me ;)

hey ! 'Tiger Tim' is still in the top 5 in the world :proud: which is strange because he never wins anything :undecide: :D

because Tim Henman is more interested to the money, :greed: not the trophies.. :p283:

I dont know about that, he would cut his arm off with a chainsaw if he thought it would help him win wimbledon ;)

sometimes I still thought that Beck is still ours...

we've seen better players leave and will have to again in the future. Utd moves on hopefully to bigger and better things :D Ronaldo and Rooney have both been nominated for FIFA world player of the year and though i doubt they will win its still a good sign for Utd that the kids are rated so highly :proud:

so do I, I remmember his last preformance in Red Jersy at CL agaist Real Mierdid... he was so eager to win, he came after sub in the second half, scored twice and was one of those who organized our play in offence...

tho Sir Alex doesn't like his glamour life but Becks was still in the 1st team. IMO it was Beck's agent behind that move. :v46:

OK.. let's forget the past. the show must go on, guys.. and we already have the best youngsters to conquer Premiership and Europe.

tho Sir Alex doesn't like his glamour life but Becks was still in the 1st team. IMO it was Beck's agent behind that move.

Unfortunately Wes Brown is now using that agent too  These agent troubles should hopefully be a thing of the past as Utd now offer agents payments according to how long the player they represent stays at the club, which means they have to keep the player at Utd if they want the full money. This should stop them phoning up Real Madrid and offering our players ;)
