Who do you think is Milan's biggest rival in Serie-A next season?

You can choose more than 1 choice.

I picked Juventus, 'cos Inter never win anything anyway :grinser:

I think Juventus would be challenging again, as well as Inter and Roma..

Juventus has a tradition of winning Serie-A, so they cannot be written off at all. Inter has got a strong squad this year and Mancini probably would be able to gel them? Anyway, Inter is still Inter, hope they won't win anything :grinser: Whereas, Roma has got one of the best partnership striker in Serie-A, but once Totti is out, Roma is half-strength.
Lazio and Parma has been darkhorses for several seasons and they would always be troublesome to be handled.

My pick still goes to Juventus though, while Inter and Roma would fight for third place.

Forza Milan!

Milan's biggest rival will be themselves again this year.....if they can overcome complancency and show the hunger and desire from the last 2 seasons they will have no competition

1. Juve: Should be stronger than last year, allthough no major signings have been made. They have the tradition and may be boosted by Capellos arrival.

2. Inter: There are allways a lot of IFs surrounding Inter. IF they can gel as a team, IF their big names accept bench-roles etc, they can succeed. I do have a feeling that they will do much better than last year (no all that hard...). Their midfield and attack looks very strong.

3. Roma: May very well be as spectacular as last year in a number of games, with so much young talant in the squad. They don't have the depth to be real title contenders though.

4-6: Parma/Lazio/Udine: Can all field good starting line-ups, but lack in depth.

I think Juve and Roma will be our biggest rivals this year.

Juve: Have been very busy this summer, Along with the aquisition of some good players, they have signed a manager with one of the most distinguished records in the history of football. The defence is looking much stronger than last season and many of the players that were weak links before have been replaced by good players.

Inter: Brought in Mancini to replace Zac. Mancini is a smart manager which will definately bolster the side. Some good players have also been brought in, which on paper make them look possibly the strongest side in Italy. However, every season, Inter look like the strongest side in Italy, on paper. I expect some interesting stuff from them, but I have doubts about them being successful.

Roma: One of our biggest threats imo. However, this is only if they get the signings they are expected to get this summer. They lost a world class coach in Capello and one of the worlds best defenders in Samuel. However, Prandelli has shown good coaching skills at Parma and Roma are expected to get Ferrari and Mexes (two of the most promising defenders in world football). Some important players will be lost, but if they make the right signings, they won't miss these players.

Lazio: Tough one to call. I can't really imagine too much from them, but they are always a threat.

Parma: I believe they will struggle. Although I doubt they will be fighting in relegation, I don't expect to see as much from them as we have in recent seasons. This is mostly due to their financial difficulties.

I also want to mention Fiorentina, who I don't expect to challenge for the title, but I would like to see them do well.

In the end though, its up to Milan. Our squad is probably the strongest in World football at the moment. We have a very good manager, who is tactically aware and the management of the club are excellent in their roles. In the end, we have everything we need to win and if we don't, then we won't have played to our potential.

Agree with the themselves, have the squad to win so just need the will. Stay relatively injury free and anything is possible.
Other then Capello's arrival and the 'tradition' still not so sure about Juve, at least not at this point right now

I feel it will be Inter, they have a great squad and a manager with his head on his shoulders. They may challenge us in serie A, but I feel they will fail completly in europe.

After them I wonder if it will be Roma or Juventus, a lot may depend on how their transfer markets end up. I think both have had a bad one so far and to know that we was better than them last year and that they have only got worse so far...

Only Juve. But I agree with Triniman. If we play as we played last year there will be no rival.I give Milan a 80% chance to win the Scudetto this year. Then 20% to Juve.

I give Milan a 80% chance to win the Scudetto this year. Then 20% to Juve.
80%? That's pushing it a bit IMO.

Let's say that there are 4 teams that could win this year, Milan, Juve, Inter and Roma. If all had an equal chance, Milan would have a 25% chance of winning. If Milan (which I think) are twice as likely to win as the other three, then we would have a 40% chance of winning. With competition like Juve, Inter and Roma, odds of winning are rarely over 50% in any case.

I hope it will be: Milan win their 80% matches and Juve win only 20%. :D

Hopefully the table in the end of 04/05 season wull be like this:
1. AC Milan
2. Juventus
3. AS Roma
4. Fiorentina
...
13. Inter Milan

I agree.... We have the best team among all, strongest defence line, pretty midfield with jogo bonito, and 2 awesome strikers upfront which will make our perdenti cousin cry for another season and also enough to make the rest of rival team players pissing in their pants... Mentality set-up, egos, arrogance and all the things can destroy us from inside.... Not our rivals!

Despite what "history" says, I predict Inter will be our biggest competition this year, and will finish above Juventus. Mancini is a very good coach, probably as good as Capello, and Inter's midfield and the Vieri/Adriano upfront have all the tools to produce. Juventus may be getting "rusty" and they will miss Di Vaio - it was their mistake to let him go.

Milan should and can repeat its success providing players are well motivated and Kaka gives us the same performance as last season. One thing is sure: no one can match the Nesta/Maldini/Stam defense (the "Great Wall" would be a good name to call them), and the team has been playing well together for a couple of years now, so we are on line for a great year.

Inter fans must be thinking, "Right now we have the Champion of Europe in Karangounis and Champion of Latin America in Adriano, we are a team of champions.." :mute:

Juventus : Their last season main problem is defence, and this season they don't buy any world class/good defender yet, but with Emerson signing, their midfield is getting better.

Inter : It's interesting, does Mancini brave enuff to let Veron to play in centre of midfield ? but they got many star/good players, they can explode.

Roma : They lost Emerson, and Samuel(but they got Chivu and Dellas, and also i heard that they try to sign Ferrari from Parma), and they don't have/buy a good left winger yet (IMO they will play 4-4-2 system).

Lazio : Nothing to lose.

So i'll choose Juve&Inter

well ithink Milan biggest rival for these season, would be Juve. cause they now coached by Cappello, his a brilliantt coach.
Inter dosen't quite concernt me, unless Mancini can made Inter solid team. then it would be a problem.
Roma well, althought they had financiall problems. they still competitive IMO. cause they had talented young players, bought two good deffender, and had talented young coach, who liked works with youngster( it fit well at Roma).

I think they r juven and inter! This season,,juven and inter had both changed their coaches, the new one r Mancici and Capello.Except this, many new players had joined into them, such as two former roma`s defenders had joined into juven. But roma still have Chiev,Philippe Mexes from Auxerre, still talent Cassono, defender ferrari and i think their power is still strong!!
Inter, they brought so many player just as before, but this time, their coach had changed,Macini is a creative coach, maybe he knows how to let so many players play,i think their strikers,Vieri+Adriano is very dangerous, especially Adriano,he is the king striker of Copa América.Besides this, they have3 many free kick excerpts now,it is dangerous, too!
But i still think,we have Kaka, sheva,Maldini and some other good players and we had brought Stam, rented Crespo,i think we will be the champion of seria-a,uefa champion, italia super cup, toyota cup, uefa super cup and some other championship`s wnner,we will the the champion!!!!!

the most dangerous thing of Juve must be FIAT Group. And this season Serie A will miss their best referee, Collina..

I have to agree with the majority of the posts I've seen so far. I think Juventus will be tougher than hell to beat...

I don't think its wise to pass Inter over just because they "never win anything." Mancini has a great footballing mind and I see him bringing some consistency to the Inter-merdi. Of course...they won't win anything this year...but let's give them props for at least trying, okay?

And as my sentimental favorite this year...Forza Fiorentina...welcome back to paradiso!

juve don't scare me as much as previous seaons, but you can never ever count them out, inter have a superstar squad, and roma still have a decent enough squad, i guess i'd pick inter.

From the list in the poll I would have to go for Inter, I think Mancini is capable of doing good things with that team....they might even win a title this season (oh wait, they did already, the glorious Tim Cup ;) )..... Juve is always a threat but their defense seems to continue being a big problem for them....well, no team and match is to be taken lightly if we are going to achieve big things.....Milan's main rival will be non other than Milan itself.

The rival will be as every season...Juve

Inter bought good players, but our cousins do that, every season but always they fail...They are loosers:)

Roma is not something special for me, i am only mentioning this team, for Totti...But i think that they will rely in young ppl this year

Lazio, Parma they dont have the depth as u correct said...

Also there are some teams in Europe, i want to see how we will perform against them...

1 - Real ( i want to crashhhhhhhhhhhh them)

2 - Chelsea ( ok we won them, but they are still a competitor for the CL)
:)

Roma shouldn't be discounted, Parandelli is very good coach and their young team could well surprise people. Cassano was Italy's best euro 2004 player, he'll be a very frightening prospect if he finds form this year.

However, yes like most people I'm worried by the long list of quality players Inter brought in and the hiring of Capello to Juventus. The upside is that Juve don't seem to have such a complete squad as usuall and Inter do have a habit of tripping over their large chequebook. Plus we look totally solid, maybe the most complete team in the world, maybe we could use a bit of youth at the back and a bit of cover in midfield but these are small quibbles as we have and extremely strong first 11 and a lot of cover in most positions.

I voted for Inter, I hate Inter, but I think that they will be strong in this season because they have new coach Mancini, who is great, and they have new players Davids, Veron and Mihajlovic, so I think that they will be our rival no.1.

IMO Inter is the toughest rival for this season....but I don't believe with Juve, they still a serious contender for Scudetto. Roma...hhmm...they still good but i dont think they will be a serious candidate.

Henrik
21-08-2004, 08:08
I think Milan will have most trouble with Inter head-to-head. Inter (like us, except last season) has a tendancy to slip up against smaller teams. Never count Juve out, they may get their behinds kicked in the big games this year, but they allways manage to squeeze by in the rutine games.

With 20 teams in serie A, Juve has an advantage.

As much as i hate to say it! Juve is Milan's biggest rival, they are a strong squad! and have a 'thing' for winning the serie a!!
But We will still win!!!! :zany: :argue:

housin7
22-08-2004, 09:07
I think having 20 teams in the series would affect the fitness of the players heavily, so IMHO, a team with a good squad depth should finishes on top of the rest. IMHO, again, Milan and Inter have a very good squad depth as compared to Juve's or Roma's and the determining factors would be the consistency of the team itself.

Fiorentina are gonna take the season by storm, whilst Juve don't have the strength in depth and Inter under the guidance of Mancini will be a major force to contend with! But they are Inter after all, and they will finish the season trophyless(maybe the Coppa Italia ha ha)

I don't think it will be either Inter or Juve because..

Juve: Juve is rebuilding, they lost Lippi, and their defense has only been strengthened by the arrival of Cannavaro and their midfield by Emerson, other then that and the arrival of Zlatan Juve seems will take this coming season as a rebuilder to gel..

Inter: They are the IF squad, and they NEVER Gel.. they put wingers as ball winners and super strikers as attacking midfielders.. they're a mess and Mancini will have a tough time on his hands..

Roma: I think this is our biggest rivals.. they might have lost Samuel but they bought the hottest young defensive player in MEXES. Add to that Daneille de Rossi's bolstering their squad, Christian Chivu coming back to have hopefully a fully fit season with Lima still in the squad and their latest signing MIDO to partner Cassano with Totti to provide them the ammunition, Roma seems to be the danger squad, they didn't finish 2nd to us last year for nothing.

Nadir
31-08-2004, 20:25
interesting to note miccoli is off to the Viola. a real display of confidence by capello and juve to unload a player on loan at the deadline. clearly they thought about this.

as for inter being a threat - EVERY YEAR - EVERY YEAR - since i was a kid, they said Inter is a threat to the scudetto - PULEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSE. The rot is so deep in their organization. until they fix that, and i don't see anything done to fix it recently, they are still screwed.

Roma are finished. without capello, emerson, samuel they are gonna struggle to find their rhythm and when they do, it might be too late. also note the little turmoil they are having pre-season - they are coachless right now with voller in or out? mido was great a few years ago and i am not sure if he can recreate his form from the dutch league. totti is gonna be a liability instead of an asset for them because he's a complete doofus when it comes to the big game. they finished 2nd last year because juve played like utter crap. i would be surprised if roma can repeat.

Samaldinho
31-08-2004, 21:58
I think the fact that Juve played like utter crap is because we are comparing the two time scudetto winning Juve to the new look Juve that is still taking form. Roma is a team that is the best to rival Milan because for every key player that left [Samuel and Emerson] they bought good replacements or had them, Danielle de Rossi is great, Lima can do the same job that Emerson can, they also got Perotta.. Mexes for Samuel, Chivu will finally be back..

Totti a liability? Please.. He made a mistake, and I think he's learned his lesson, whatever, he's just the best play maker in the world right now with Ronaldinho and he willed the team to greatness..

You act like Mido is an old decrepid player, he's 21 and had one bad season.. and he's better then Zlatan that Juve were dumb enough to buy. He's not hyped up for nothing. What's this talk about years ago? You mean the season before last? Where he took Celta Vigo to their first CL in their history? Or how he was Ajax's top scorer before being sent to Spain? Or being The African Young Player of The Year?

Roma is the team to challege Milan, because they are better then Juve and Inter, but their one weakness is a lack of depth.. I think you'll see the true Mido, with Totti as his number 10 instead of Camel Meriem, things will be different.

I'm not sure about Roma. I think they have very good players (even if they lack experience), but management side of things are not that good. Prandelli has had to leave and I can't remember if they have a replacement yet, but either way, the replacement has a very short time to get a side prepared.

I think Juve have really gotten some good signings in Zlatan and Canna. I think they are a major threat. Although I stunned to see them let Miccoli go, as he was one of their best players on recent form.

ok, that's your opinion but i disagree. you have a right to that opinion :)

of note, mexes has just been banned for 6 weeks by FIFA and Roma will undoubetdly appeal it. As for Totti, let's just say I am soooooooooo glad he is not a Milan player :tongue1: He didn't make "one" mistake, as you mentioned in your post - he's made a few, and Roma fans will attest to it.

1) constantly bickering with his own team management and threatening to leave. yah - way to build team spirit Totti. Argue with management saying the team "we have sucks". What does that say to the rest of the players? Basically he said "improve the team or I walk. what we have now is not good enough to contend with the big guns." He has every right to complain but not in public and not to the press!

2) last season's abandoned rome derby. He was acting like HE was gonna call the shots. When the ref asked roma players to return to the field, HE made the decision that the fans would "kill them" and hence refused to play. Who is he? He's just a player! Capello should have immediately pulled him off and sent the team back on instead of succumbing to the demands of hooligans. Yah this is a judgment call but even Galliani admitted that he was wrong to cancel the match when he did.

3) Spitting incident. enough said.

4) last game of the season against Milan. He gave up 10 mins after kick off. I don't blame him cus Milan made him and Roma their b*tch that night but for the sake of Roma fans, at least put a LITTLE into it! When the Roma thugs started throwing flares onto the field, the great Roma leader did nothing to calm them down. Capello had to walk over to silence them and even that didn't work.

The point of this (4) is he is not a big game man. I will not argue with the fact that he is talented. He is. No doubt. But given the choice - give me Rui Costa, Kaka or Seedorf to Totti anyday. Why? Firstly, all three of those guys know the big game and come out strong in the important games.

Again, this is my opinion and you don't have to agree with it. But I am just forming this opinion based on all the serie A games I have watched last season - which is 3 games a week, every week. (and i can't wait for my fix).

Juve will be the team to beat this season. Roma will put up a fight but Totti is the kind of player that needs a lot more than club pride to motivate him. Cassano on the other hand, i feel will be something to watch. too bad his role model is totti ugh.

whatever we feel, we have one thing in common - we want milan to wipe the floor with both juve AND roma :D FORZA MILAN! :rock3:

Roma huh?
Do you still hold this view after two matchdays? or do you admit i was right?

Two things i said before the season started

1) roma are not going to threaten for a title.
2) montella shoulda been obtained by milan.

After 2 matchdays we see a disastrous start to the season by Roma, but a SUPERB start to the season by montella.

in italy the deadliest rivals this year are juve, what juve needed last year was a defence that didnt let in stupid goals thats why they lost so many points against small teams which is weird because thats how juve usually collect points! this year with a stronger defence (zebina is doing quite well BTW) and emerson they should look more solid and confident. but milan can easily take them on both home and away i think. dont want to sound cheezy but our biggest rivals this year could be us... we have to gain as much oints as possible, remember the away game to lecce last year that summarises what i mean by this point!

housin7
21-09-2004, 10:14
Juventus is always dangerous because they are able to collect most of the points against smaller teams. This is very different to Inter, who is always facing difficulties. I'd say it is due to the winning mentality of both teams; Juve is one of the strongest Italian side in late 90's whereas Inter's greatest moment in the past decade was UEFA Cup (thanks to Ronaldo who single handedly bring them to win) and several cups ( read: Friendly Cups ;) ). If Inter is playing the small team at this rate, I'd bet that the title would be decided between Juventus and Milan. The only thing I'd worry is over-confidence in our team, which may lead to underestimation of the small opponent and lose valuable points.

Ladies and Gentlemen;

I am no fan of Roma (Juve and Roma as we all know have bad history) but I believe they have a GREAT squad! Yeah so they're playing a bit crappy and Voller wants to quit, but I believe should they find the right coach who can utilise the players and bring them to the ultimate, Roma could be very grand indeed. And frankly, it'd be good to the world of football if Roma is in good form.

Oh, I'm so glad you guys consider Juve your biggest rival :D But I won't be too big headed to say so ... It's too early in the season and some crazy fans are claiming roma is dying, milan is in a crisis, juve is great, adriano is god.. calm down and we'll see how things go. Hopefully this will be a great season, if not for our teams, for the football itself.

roma is not dying. it is dead :D

as for adriano - so far, i feel he is overrated.
i never felt milan were in crisis.
as for juve, you can't underestimate a team that just got a class defender as in cannavaro, a class midfielder in emerson and a coach with a record in capellol.

Let me rub it in some more. People said Roma and Inter were Milan's biggest rivals. It's week 12 and Roma just lost to Reggina 1-0 and are in 15th place. Inter had their 5th consecutive tie and are in 7th place. And my predictions are spot on with Juve - top place and chugging along like a well oiled machine.

Where are you Samaldinho? :D

Yeah .., only Juve vs Milan, meanwhile juve's leading 6 pts.
Del Piero back for scoring.
Sheva continously scoring.

In other hand Milan and Juve's bomber are injured till January or February (Pippo n Trezeguet).
Both teams have an equal composition. LEVEL!!
Same Competitions : Serie A, Coppa an CL' Cup

Find out, who's greater Capello or Ancelloti !!
IMO, it could be strategy clash between them.
Include rotation in Coppa or Serie A.
Ok Carlo, prove ur better than the ex- !!

capello stated in an interview after the game against lecce in week 12 that milan and juve won't suddenly drop points now to bring inter back in the race.
