I know it's rather early but i've seen so many threads about this game so it'd be better to put everything inside this one.
I'd like to ask if anyone will or is planning to come to the game?
I cannot deny i'm trying my best to come over there, cause it's a long sought after challenge and a memorable clash
I will be present at both matches :w155: :1ole: :1five:
im really looking foward to the matches i think it will be a great show of talent...

Josina will you sit with the away supporters?
I've already got in touch with my Milan Club, but there are many point to be cleared up before even planning, esp if we'll come over there by flight or bus (ouch) and the costs.
Anyone planning to go to Manchester? It'd be my first away in Europe and travelling with Ultras groups on charters would be a total laugh !!!
Will be a hard game since United is getting better and better but I am confident Milan will at least get a draw at Old Trafford and then win the home game. It will be a great game to watch! Let the best team win! (...Milan) :nerd:
i will be in the home section at Old Trafford..and the away at the san siro...i think that just in case ..i cant help but let out a cheer if Milan score..Man utd supporters would be more forgiving than if i sit with the Milan Ultras and cheer when Man Utd win....so for my safety ill play it safe :nail:
stop talking about tickets!!! I envy you both, you know??!! :D
let's talk about players to play in both matches.
I hope all best players would come in then let'us witness a great show.
whoever wins, I would still support both. I just want to see a good, clean, and fair fight. ;)

FORZA MILAN!!!

these days my feelings comes to clear end... Serie A has a break ... I am home this month... my studies [semester] is over the next starts only at Feb 02... my TV shows one very good sports channel... I mean football... Viasat 2... this channel is concentrated on Premiership.... MUtv and chelsea tv.... all brand new events and matches are available to me at last... :tong: ... great preformance of MUFC and especially Giggsy these weex made me make up my mind in their favour... but I do not say I betray Milan.... I always insisted on telling ya that my favorite team is MUFC... I keep on doing that till I joined this forum and keep doing this all the time.... just it...
MUFC and ACM had never faced before in my life I guess or I dont remember... it was quite an awful day when uefa's officials drawed ACM to MUFC... I was astonished and poleaxed ... beleive me.. it was one of the worst days of last year.... but I am still alive so... it's a deed :smileani: isn't it... :tong: now I am lookin forward to the final showdown... some one should lose ... I will cry for the losers and support winners.. that's it... :v103:

Where else has someone started a thread about this game?
I agree with Giovanni this will be a memorable clash:
1) Two of the five biggest (richest) clubs in the world.
2) Two styles of playing representing the best of English and Italian football.
3) The two most dangerous goal scorers (Sheva and Van Niisteroy).
4) Classical setting in Old Trafford and San Siro.
If I was living in Europe and had a chance to get a ticket, I would be there in a heartbeat.
Well, at least I hope ESPN will broadcast the game here in the U.S.

and now giggs is out for 6 weeks, this means that he'll probably miss the first leg. also as ruud is 50-50 to be match fit for the 1st game, your line up will probably look like this:
----------------------howard (caroll will be dropped soon ;) )----------------
-----heinze---------------ferdinand--------silvestre----------------neville
ronaldo-----keane---------scholes--------fletcher/kleberson/miller/djemba/smith
--------------------smith/van nist-------rooney------------------

Nothing in that lineup tells me we should be afraid, but we must be a little cautious of some players.
btw, Neville and Heinze should be swapped round, Neville is RB and Heinze LB ;)

i know, but i was looking at the screen and neville was on the r-h side!
it doesn't take much to confuse me!
Giggs and RVN will start. The UCL is Ferguson's last resort. The EPL is as good as gone. :devf: One by one all the trophies are slipping and Europe's storied club AC MILAN stands in the way of Ferguson's Red Devils. Bring it on.
P.S. I am planning to attend both legs but can't get hold of the tickets. Dependent on the touts! :devf:

Giggsy should be back by mid february so he should be ok for both legs, unfortunately (for Utd anyway..) its his hamstring again so mentally he will not go all out with his running until he is certain it is fixed. I doubt he will be at his best again now until April :(
MU is still not reaching any kind of form that we should be worried about. some players are carrying the team along but with the recent injuries, MU is back to zero. whereas milan pick up from where they left off before the break, demolishing lecce. seriously MU should have ten times more reasons to worry about us than we have about them so let's just enjoy the games. the party has just started, let us just kick juve back to where they belong first. :p017: :p017:

It could even be one of Fergies mind games, Milan will train to face a deep striker like Smith or Rooney and then suddenly Ruud will walk out instead :D

Milan have had a nice little holiday and played as expected really :D
Im more worried about how Utd play at the moment, 4 games in 9 days has taken a lot of energy, particularly for Smith as a lone striker. A small break for FA Cup and then Liverpool at Anfield next weekend :nervous:
this wont really matter much in 2 months though, im sure there will be plenty of developments between now and then

I have very high hopes for this match, which has all indications of being a classic. (If the pre-season friendly in New York is any indication, then it has the potential of being an all time great match up).
While Milan are currently riding a wave of excellent form, and Man U seem to be a little off key at the moment, Feb 22 (if I remember correctly) is some time away yet, and in the interim, Fergie could pull out one of his usual revivals, and ensure that Man U are sharp come the visit of the Rosseneri.
What is clearly apparent as far as Man U are concerned is that Fergie:
through injury,
or the dip in form to key players,
or fatigue,
or (which I doubt) a misunderstanding of his message,
(or a combination of all?) clearly cant find 11 players with any consistency to ensure the results that would at least keep them in the title hunt.
Their recent impressive climb to third in the tables seems to be a gloss over some major imperfections that became visible in pre-season, and resulted in their alarming stutter-start to the current domestic campaign.
His recent youth selections are a ways away from duplicating the awesome talent posessed by the Arsenal trio of van Persie, Fabregas and Flamini. (Not to mention the new centre back with the funny name that seems to be an excellent player). Though Man U won the "battle of the youth teams" in the FA Cup(?) recently, the more important aspect, their ability to integrate into the senior squad cannot compare to the ease with which Arsenalīs youth products have.
Now would be the perfect time to meet the English giants, with doubt beginning to creep into the younger players minds, and frustration mounting in the minds of the older players. Alas, we have a couple months to go, and because that can represent an eternity in the football world, we never know what kind of Man U we will face.
If Milan continue to play the way we have been, and with JDT back, and Stam and Pipo soon to follow, Milan will be even stronger, with Carlo spoiled for choice for strikers and midfield and even in defense. Should I additionally mention the fact that our recent aquisitions are proving their worth? Not a nice proposition if you are a Man U fan.
The world of football however is governed by a most fickle sovreign, and her name is Lady Luck. She can spare players from injury, or rule them out for entire seasons, can smile on you on one day, and completely desert you the next.
An excellent team spirit in tandem with sound collective intelligence usually prevails however, and the more I see Milan play, the more I believe that we are the real thing!
Fear is a rapidly diminishing emotion in my heart when I watch Milan play, and the depth of our squad very reassuring indeed.
A lot can change between now and the next UCL matchday, but if current trends stay true till then, what is definately assured is that the game will be unforgettable for fans and neutrals alike.Though for the set of fans from the north of England it will be an unforgettable day of sorrow and embarrassment, while for those fans from the north of Italy, it will be a day to remember forever.

thats true enough, and it is mainly injury that has caused the problems. When everyone is fit Utds strongest XI would almost pick itself (according to which tactics are used) the only persistant doubt is over who plays in goal. At the moment its Carroll though Howard will probably play in the cup game, as for the rest it would most likely be:
Neville-----Rio---------Silvestre-------Heinze
Ronaldo*---Keane----Scholes*--------Giggs*
------Rooney*------------------------------
-------------------RvN---------------------
* = interchangeable :D

Senderos maybe? of those 4 players only Fabregas has truely shone, the others are all very much squad players. Compare them to Utds top 4 youngsters: Rooney, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Spector.....Fergie isnt doing too badly
The problem for Utd is not the youngsters, who are all talented enough for the highest level. Instead it is the slightly older squad players who have let the side down, Djemba, Kleberson, Miller etc were brought in as near finished articles but have proven inadequate when the going gets tough.
I will be present at both matches :w155: :1ole: :1five:
You lucky bastard! I'd do anything for those tickets!
As for the actual game, I believe the clash at Old Trafford will be the one who settles it. I have no doubts Milan will win at San Siro, the only question is if Milan can handle United in England. If Crespo can only keep up his recent form I think Uniteds weak defense will have huge problems stopping the terrible tripple. Kaká-Sheva-Crespo.
One battle that'll be a lot of fun to watch is the one between Gattuso and Scholes/Keane. Pirlo, stay away from that one.;)
Actually, if you compare the line-ups, I'll have to admit that, there's only three United-players I would like to have in Milan for the moment. That is Scholes, Van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo. Possibly Rooney. No one ells fits in at San Siro right now...

I am pretty sure that RVN and Giggs will start the game at OT. It is Alice' last chance saloon this season as the EPL is as good as gone and the FA Cup is not enough for a club as hungry as United.
Shrek and Donkey will start. I have no doubts at this time. :nunu:

it is very confusing when some people's 'WE' or 'US' are not Milan. like "we are out of shape", "our goalies are pathetic", "referee or linesman didn't help us", "we are the best in europe" :guw:
may i please suggest the MANU fans use "we" or "us" for ManU only in that certain thread (ManU supporter thread, and non-MU fans don't have to go there).

i recommend the first tier (orange) usually for people who wants to watch closely the players and the match. the second orange or red (trbunes) is good though, not as close to the pitch but definitely nice. my first match was behind the goal under curva sud(first blue tier ) and it was awesome

As you can see I live in London and I am planning to go to the away match in Manchester. I will be booking my ticket this week to Milan as I have to go there to pick up the tickets. It is so annoying that one cannot buy them directly from the home team. But I dont mind, the flights to Milan are cheap plus I can visit some family and friends while I am there.
I think we'll get throught this tie but I dont think it will be easy. Italian teams always lose or make hardwork of EPL teams!

sometimes it makes me sick/uncomfortable too. luckily, many/most man united fans are civil and courteous. don't want to name names, but some simply never realizes that when this forum is their home only when they are a milan fan. and if they decide to show up with the identity as a manu fan, they are only guests, and guests should behave to some extent.
i can't wait for this game and finally they will be showing it on espn 2 here in the USA... so im very happy about this

Plus the Man Utd fans are a very decent lot IMO. They are good people. Plus they are part of the brotherhood. Let's treat them like our own.

Utd's form has been excellent over the past few weeks, with the reserves holding a near full strength Chelsea side at the Bridge and then the first team beating Liverpool at Anfield :D with Rio, Giggsy and Ruud all to return Utd could be in good condition for the Milan game. The result at Highbury could have a big impact on morale though

If you have thr member ship ina fanclub and supporters group you have many chances to get ONE (no more). But even in that case, it depends if you have gone quite often or rarely and have attended away matches..they privilege people who's always there to support more than people who goes once in 2 months, if needed (when there's lack of tickets)

my prediction= AC Milan 4-1 Man U
1- Man U 1-2 Milan (Seedorf, Kaka) (first goal assisted by Golden Sheva)
2- Milan 2-0 Man U (Pippo twice) (game of his life)
I predict that the match in Old Trafford will be 1-1(Giggs JDT) or 0-0, but in San Siro 2-0 for Milan(Sheva and Crespo)
Their win today against Villa was another good example, in my opinion, of the danger of Ronaldo. With RVN and even Rooney and Scholes I think its clearer how to play against them but Ronaldo is less predictable.

dont worry too much about Ronaldo, he's only played like that 2 or 3 times this season  :D
When hes on form he is unstoppable but he is still at an age where inconsistency is a major problem. That said, he does like the big occasions and there are none bigger than a Champions League clashwith Milan....
Milans biggest problem will be the movement of Utds midfield and attack. With the exception of Keane (who will stay back) and RvN/Smith/Saha (who will stay upfront) the other 4 basically play wherever they like and are all capable of hurting teams if they are given any space.
Its hard to say exactly how Carlo will plan to stop this as one centre back will have to stay with Ruud, i've said before that Cafu could be the one who's performance decides the game. If he's too attacking Utd will punish Milan as Giggs, Rooney and Ronaldo are all very dangerous coming in from the left side. If he's too defensive then Milan will lack width and be easier to contain. If he gets the balance right then Milan will go through...
Stez,
If Milan plays 4-3-2-1 then I would bet on a Milan win in OT and effectively killing off the tie. :eekani: Brave words but Milan is just another team with that formation. Rui and Kaka behind Shev with Pirlo, Gattuso & Seedorf as the supporting cast.
United's threat for me will be the trio of RVN, Rooney and Ronaldo with RVN being the most dangerous of course. Milan must score in the Theatre of Wet Dreams. This awful away run this season must be ended and our poor record in England is not doing any favours to raise the optimism right now. :fero:

it would need pressure on the wings to really work against Utd though, if Neville and Heinze arent being pressured much they will tuck in tighter to the centre backs and with Keane protecting them it would be very difficult to break through centrally. It would require a moment of magic and even though Milan has plenty of magicians  im not sure if its scientific enough for Carlo to consider it..

You tend to forget that Milan brings the game of football to a completely different level than Arsenal - not just flair but also stability and strong will to impose your game on the opposition. Milan can win games even when they seamingly do not have that much ball possession. This is something Arsenal has been lacking this season, and not only. Furthermore, Milan tends to be on top of their game against serious opposition, which ManU undoubtedly is.
My prediction for the encounter i.e. both games overall is that ManU will be given a lesson in how one team can combine flair with "grinta," as our italian friends call it, and will be totally uncapable of playing their game. While both teams have great attacking departments, games like this one are won in midfield and this is where Milan's superiority will be felt the strongest. As far as defense is concerned, I doubt that even ManU fans will disagree that Milan's rearguard is on top.
Let`s hope that our boys will win that game!
Forza :rone: Forza Milan!!! :rock3:
Top post, well done.
You just gathered all the thoughts in my mind and put it in one excellent post.
The game WILL be played in midfield, seeing as Maldini will be up againts Ronaldo and Giggs up againts Gattuso, its gonna be a hell of a battle.
I just wonder how Man Utd are gonna handle Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaká. :D
midfield is going to be tough to win a certain roy keane will see to that but we have a better defence and attack

Just got the ticket for the Milan -United game, so my loudness will be surely put at the service of the team for that night, and (as Dragana and Lore can confirm) we are very loud (central London's walls can tell you a couple of things :sun: )
Btw i can't attend the Manchester match cause i have not enough moneys and i'm already saving for the Final in Turkey :sun: Call me fool, but i must BELIEVE we get through and save in advance, cause being student i have to save since NOW. and if i spend them now, i will eventually watch my friends going and i will stay home in that case.
Cheers
Btw, great goals by Rooney the last weekend, it was quality finishing indeed.

I've lost count of the number of times i've heard that sort of thing over the years :D
Utd too are well set to trouble teams in this way, 3 flair players (Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney) backed up by midfielders (Scholes, Keane, Fletcher) who can all control the tempo of a match. I doubt Utd will try their intensity tactics against Milan but they will certainly have the option if neccesary ;)

Milan have a solid midfield but lack width. I've said before that width will be important as centrally the game could quite easily be a stalemate.

the scary thing is he seems likely to do that every game  I knew he was a good player when we signed him but i didnt quite realise how special he could be

Maybe because it is true?! :rollani: Just a guess, anyway.
The only player from ManU's midfield that worries me is Scholes for Keano, although being so experienced, is getting a bit too old for games at this level and I doubt he would be able to keep up with the high tempo for the entire duration of the game. Ronaldo and Giggs, on the other hand, will be kept under scrutiny and won't be given enough space to operate as they are used to doing in England, especially for the game in Manchester. :rr30:
As for Rooney he is a very very good player but the only defence of real quality he played against in the Premiership is that of Chelsea and I don't remember him doing much in those games. Scoring a ton of goals against teams such as Man City and Fulham doesn't mean much when it comes to playing teams like Juve, Milan, Chelsea, etc.

My point was, before every game Utd play against Italian sides i had heard that they were too classy or their defenses will be too good. But when you look at it Utds record against Italian teams isnt too bad

Did you not see the Utd - Arsenal match?
I havent seen any game that matched the tempo of that this season and even though Utd had 10 men for the last half hour Keane and Scholes were still in charge of the midfield. If they stay clear of injuries over the next few weeks they will have no problems at all.
As for Rooney he is a very very good player but the only defence of real quality he played against in the Premiership is that of Chelsea and I don't remember him doing much in those games.
thats because Utd played Chelsea in September and Rooney was kept out tghrough injury unitl mid October :D the game at Old Trafford is still to be played though.....
:dconf: the pace of italian football is slower than in england this will suit united's midfield.
how many times has giggs used his pace in these situations to destroy teams?
and you all saw what rooney did to slow paced international sides in euro 2004.
we have nothing to fear from milan it should be a cracker of a tie. i've got my tickets for the game in milan, hope to see some of you boys over there. :dconf: :dconf: :dconf: :dconf:

when he was appointed as Chelsea mngr, Mourinho talked about the difference between English and Italian/European continental football. I suggest you find that interview and read it carefully. He says some very true things about English football - pace is not always a good thing if it is not coupled with some tactical awareness. In that interview, Jose said that he would try teaching his team to play with their heads and not just run as "headless chickens" all over the field. Guess who he was referring to by saying that?
It was a great interview and I highly recommend it to anyone who still thinks that running pointlessly around after you have lost the ball yet again is a plus in modern football. The English League may be very attractive for the high pace of most games however players often show lack of basic tactical knowledge - this was the point Jose was trying to make in a very polite way - and given what he has done with Porto and now Chelsea, I would listen to him a bit more carefully before rendering his words snobbish.
And trust me Switzerland is hardly a measure for the abilities of Rooney and company.
Trust me brother, you have a lot of reasons to fear from Milan for they are not a typical Italian team like Juve for example and I have a fealing that Carrol will be more than willing to agree with this, after the game.
so how has mourinho got chelsea to the top of the league???not by playing continental football i can assure you!!!!! man u play at pace because when you have 4/5 of the fastest players in europe, how else would you play the game? ferguson knows his tactical game and will play milan at the pace he thinks is needed that,s why milan should be very wary

its 2 different ball game and both of them have different kind of play but it would be great to see both of them hitting it out its been a while milan hasnt played a British team and it would be great coz Man dont have 10 Guys in the back but preffer moving foward and as Galline said we win when the other team plays open and attack.
so Milan always plays great when the other team wants to attack it suffers when the other team close all flanks and spaces but from now till the Final Game all teams are play the attackin footabll expect Juve that would preffer attack once every 10 min even thou they handle the ball alot but i preffer us taking care of Man united then think of the rest coz remeber last year we kind over looked Depor and we got sucked big time.
and hope everyone would be ready for this game 16 days left till we meet United on the Old Traford

To be fair to Bellion he does have a lot of good attributes, he is severely lacking any decision making ability though. Fergie probably thought that if he trained with guys like Ruud and Ole for a while then maybe he would gradually learn how to be a striker, it just hasnt worked out...

There is no guarantee that RVN will thrive in Italy's Serie A the way he does in the Premiership. Actually I am pretty sure he would be suffocated by the tight marking there - a transfer to the Premiership or La Liga is the best thing that could happen to his career. In short, RVN in Serie A wouldn't be half the RVN in England.
i am still willing to take ryan giggs. he is not young any more, and he may not fit into our formation very well (milan doesn't heavily depend on wings) but i have always liked him, and i know at least from 1994 (or maybe even before then), we have been one of his admirers. and damn manu :D never let him go.

Van basten was far superior to RVN, but I understand your point ;)
Van Hemoroid is an excellent poacher, no doubt about it. He is to ManU what Pippo used to be (and hopefully will become again) for Milan.
Allthough I agree that there are very few if any players from ManU that I would give a starting role at Milan, the same can likely be true the other way around too (well, Nesta and Dida apart I would imagine) The point is that the teams are structured in different ways and hence need different kind of players.

Honestly, i believe Utd are capable of beating Milan, on their day Utd can beat any team in the world.
Im usually quite good at seeing a result before it happens but with this game i genuinely cannot see the outcome, i can see individual battles and the more likely winners in areas of the pitch but i cant put them together and make a scoreline out of it :hmmm:

Impossible why?, it has happened before. Milans recent record against English teams isnt great, even dirty Leeds did well against Milan

Ronny needs couple of more season or else he would end up like gazza big talk then boom out of picture, Facing milan Koka is like facing Arsnel, Liverpool and Celtic Put together thats how Good they are so u keep talkin about how u gone wipe us forgive me but u must be thinkin u playin Fullhum or portsmouth give me a break and come to the real world a win at arsenl doesnt make u win the CL that only makes u feel u have an OK team.
Tickets for the Milan - Manu game seems really hard to get... BUT I'VE GOT 2!!!
Have followed Milan since the Mid eighties and finally I'll be there!!!! For the Champions League against the most hated team in world sports..
It will be a very close matchup, so I try to prepare myself for the possibility of a loss... I guess seeing the San Siro will be enough of a reward for me no matter what happens..
After landing to tickets through season ticket holders 2 more friends have booked airline tickets. Have followed the thread for a while and the general advise is scalpers, which for me really is a last resort. On February 17 the remaining tickets will be put on sale. Does anyone know how many tickets this is? How many of these can be booked online? Which other possibilities do we have?
We arrive in Bergamo on march 5, just in time for the Atalanta match. How about tickets for this game? Will it be sold out? Can we book in advance? And how much will it cost us from the black market.
Forza Milan... I'll see you soon....

i perfer crespo over RVN, because crespo got more flair and would run back to try to get the balls sometimes while RVN is a out and out poacher and nothing else. and with crespo consistently on the scorecheet nowadays and RVN on the sidelines, i would take crespo anyday. i love crespo  i would to see a match up between ac milan and chelsea. and for that to happen, we MUST dispose off man u, i don't care how we do it, just do it. :nasty:

Tim Howard or Roy Carroll (depends who Fergie feels like picking).
Don't worry, neither are particularly good ;)

I may be wrong, but I think we are pretty sure about WHO Man United are, what we seem to differ on is if they are any good. :p286: Time will tell my fable-loving friend :)

unless he makes a major mistake against City i think Carroll will start, he isnt world class but is usually reliable....unless teams shoot at him from the half way line  ;)

Hello folks, I am a Celtic fan who has posted on this forum before.
I must say, that I think this will be a very tight tie. Both teams are very evenly matched, both potentially should be league winners in their own countries, but their teams as a whole are not functioning 100%, but both have special players in Rooney and Sheva that could decide the game.
I think they are impossible to predict, but I do think both do not have their defences on top form, ie Celtic managed to score against Milan in both games, and Man Utd have leaked many goals in the Premiership, although not a lot recently.
I look forward to 2 great games, but must say my support will lie with Milan for these games. As it will with Barca against Chelsea aswell!!
Forza Milan.

Stezagud, what do you think that Milan will be able to beat Manchester United...
and vice versa, what do you think Man U can beat Milan?
I've had such a hard time trying to predict this because there are so many factors involved :dazed: the only certainty for me is that Milan have the better keeper
The one thing that stands out to me is width. Utd will most likely have Ronaldo and Giggs on the wings with 3 midfielders central whereas Milan play a variation of the diamond formation, this will make it largely a stalemate in the middle unless either side needs to chase the game.
This will make the wings important and imho Cafu (if he plays) will have the most vital role on the pitch. He will be up against Heinze and Giggs according to the teamsheet but Rooney and Ronaldo will both attack from the left at times. If he chooses to join the attack at the wrong time then Utd may punish him.
This is just guesswork though, because Utd and Milan both use unorthodox tactics (variations to suit the players) it is hard to predict what will happen when the 2 styles collide....... :dconf:

At least Milan got far enough in the CL last year to be knocked out by Deportivo. I don't remember ManU doing any better. Regardless, I doubt very much that the confidence of Milan fans will affect the outcome of the game.
Btw, we are confident because we are used to winning in the CL (6 CL trophies), we are used to winning at Old Trafford ;) and because we have a strong team this year. :)

firstly, lets get something straight, Depor last year were a surpringly good side.
That match we lost wasn't simply lost at a mental level, but also tactical, physical and many other levels.
We can only blame ourselves for that loss, but what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger right? we learn from mistakes ;)
We may have confidence, but were not being arrogant. We know United's capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Our attitude towards this match has been right so far, as were approaching it as a tough game which it is, so I don't think its true that we'll be beaten due to our mentality ;)
PS - Final Fantasy 8 is a great game :D

I'm not doubting you have a strong side, thats not in question for either team. However if your as good as you say how come you struggled to beat Celtic and then drew with them. Why aren't you top of the league?? As for your 6 trophies congrats, but try a treble then perhaps i'll be impressed. :)
Who do Milan have to replace Shevencko if he gets injured? Is it just Tomasson, or Inzagi when he's rarely fit?

as regards celtic we certainly deserved our 3-1 win over them, in fact the game should have been over at half time but we didnt take all our chances. We drew away with Celtic while resting over half our team having already qualified, not a bad result in my opinion. we finished top of our group ahead of barca, ye were second to lyon an inferior side. we are not top of the league mainly due to bad luck and and some controversial refereeing decisions particularly in the Bologna Juve game, the Calgiari Juve game, the Milan Liverno game and most significantly in the Juve Milan game, when zebina was not send off and crespo wasnt awarded a penalty. ye too are not top of your league but unlike us ye have no chance of finishing 1st.
regarding the treble, what makes you think milan would not be able to win the priemership and fa cup as well as champions league in the 1 year. The priemership is not of the same standard as serie a or la liga though it is improving but back in 1999 it wasnt much. Milan are however are on course for the treble this year, but we will make do with a 7th champions league and an 18th scudetto.
Regarding if sheva gets injured, what would ye do if Keane got injured, ye cant win a game without him. ye have 4 strikers so do we PS inzaghi has nearly recovered and is a top striker

1. you dont get any silverware for winning a group ;)
2. The only reason we didnt win it is because we sent out the youth team to Turkey. Before the group stages were finished Fergie said he didnt care whether we came first or second because he saw no great advantage as so many good sides were finishing 2nd that finishing 1st was no guarentee of an easy tie.
2. We are 2 points behind the leaders in our league, ManUnited are not even close to 1st place.

As you very well know, the only reason Juve had an 8 point lead in the first place was that Milan screwed up. The bottom line however is that I responded to someone who held it against Milan that they were not 1st in their league. I just thought that was funny, given ManU clearly worse title chances.

After the derby yesterday, they have won 13 games from 15. That is very good form, Milan will be frightened.
I am delighted to see United play a fantastic club such as AC.

The confidence seems to be gushing back to Milan supporters after a humiliating exit from Europe last year by a team of has beens (Deportivo no longer a threat)
On current form, I would say that this is very 50/50. United have won 13 games from 15.
We can definitely be shaky in defence (not to mention goalkeeper) but the defensive recored has been very good of late. Milan will be very pleased with RVN not being fully fit. Imagine Milan without Sheva??? RVN might well be match fit for the Milan game. It is unusual for him not to score in European games.
Try and wind Rooney up at your peril. He is a better player in the big games.
I look forward to watching Kaka. Is he having a good season?
Regarding tickets going on general sale on the 17th. Can I buy these on the web or where can I get 2 tickets from?

Any one wanting to join us is more than welcome.
And for all you Milanisti that are unable to attend the game, I urge you to get behind us in the stadium and back with your cheering and support!!!

We may have won the champions league late but we still won thats all that counts, the scoreline mean nothing, if you win 6-0 it will still say you won, not how much.
Looks like we have alot to fear from Milan, Jon Dahl tomasson, major threat he is. Shevencko looks like he's injured, perhaps an excuse for you guys if you lose.
But on a non-biased level, it's going to be a superb match against two teams easily up there in the best in Europe. Milan have playes like Shev,Pirlo,Kaka, and their defense. Utd have Keane, Scholes, RVn,Rooney. Both teams have players capable of turning a match around.
Oh and just so you know we put a reserve team against Fenerbache, winning the group matters not, you of all should know that.
Guys if Sheva is out, this is the line up I want to see:
Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Cafu
Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso
Rui Costa, Kaka
Crespo
But I really hope that Sheva will be available, otherwise we are screwed...
Sheva is out. What do you guys think?

Today was the best performance from milan in a while. The defence and midfield were great. Shame about Crespo and Tommasson though. They were toooo quiet especially JDT. Rui played like the Rui we all love, even if he cant score to save his life. Rui and Kaka must both start though. Maldini and Cafu as full backs.
For sure Milan is better than man united but sheva injury is lost to us
espacialy now we will play a good side without our 2 main striker (Inzaghi-Sheva)
losing sheva effort and missing game is just can be said a bad luck
however I'm afarid that Crespo to not play good and break our depend on him (only in this game) as Tomasson I don't ever trust him to do good job
but let us to think that Kaka will play good and maybe scored

That formation is suicide.
I want the same one we played in the end against Cagliari where we were able to create more with 10men than with 11 before.
u mean include Serginho?
But as long as SErginho starts, Milan has lost both of them.
Serginho is a superb sub because he changes the pace of the game, but do you expect him to do so in the same if he starts from the beginning?
*doubt*
As long as we avoid fielding any of the follwing partnerships:
Ambrosini - Gattuso
JDT - Crespo
we should do fine.
Then start Rui or Dhorasoo.
I don't think we should play with JDT up front, not for this match. We're playing away, meaning we'll be looking to contain first, then hit on the counter attack. This means we have to contain Man Utd's wide players and i don't think we can do this if we play 2 up front. If we did, you're asking JDT & Crespo to close down attacking full-backs, which i don't see them doing. Better, in my opinion, to put in another midfielder who'll close down their space. Dhorasoo has been playing well in the chances he's been given, particularly in the France game recently and i also believe he would be better at taking opportunities than Rui-Costa. As much as i admire Rui-Costa, his shooting is abysmal and quite frankly a joke and therefore i believe it would be less burden on Crespo if we play Dhorasoo.
I also think Serginho should stay as sub, when Gary Neville is getting tired out, chuck him on and try to take advantage of this.
I expect Stam to handle RVN, which will leave Nesta facing Rooney, while Cafu and Maldini will have to be careful taking on Giggs and Ronaldo. Ronaldo goes down everytime and 90% of the time wins free-kicks, i think this will be a major problem for us so Gattuso and Seedorf will have to track back so we can double up on either of them.
I must admit, i'm not a big lover of Maldini playing left-back, but i think on this occasion it's needed.
And i think everyone should be behind the team, every member on here no matter what your views on team selection, it's about time we took a look at ourselves and stopped acting like spoilt kids wanting perfection every game.

My comments may seem like a joke to you, but you will see what I mean after the game - ManU will be suffocated and totally killed in midfield and defence, and then taken on the counter. The more time marches on, ManU will become more and more unsettled and will lose patience, and this vs Milan is a Beatch.
I like ManU when it comes to the Premiership but they just don't have the patience and skill to beat Milan.

Well, let's not forget how ManU won their CL in 1999 vs bayern.
Luck has nothing to do with it - a game lasts as long as the last whistle of the ref and not 90 min - and trust me there is hardly anyone on these forums who considers Arsenal or Liverpool great teams - Pool haven't been themselves for what 15 years now as for Arsenal, they may thrash other English teams but in Europe you see their real value as a team aka 0 - scoring 5 goals to Man City is hardly the measure of a team's value.
The only real team you can prove yourselves against is the current Chelsea side and I don't remember you having much of a record against them. :guw:

Luck has nothing to do with it - a game lasts as long as the last whistle of the ref and not 90 min - and trust me there is hardly anyone on these forums who consider's Arsenal or Liverpool great teams - Pool haven't been themselves for what 15 years now as for Arsenal, they may thrash other English teams but in Europe you see their real value as a team aka 0 - scoring 5 goals to Man City is hardly the measure of a team's value.
The only real team you can prove yourselves against is the current Chelsea side and I don't remember you having much of a record against them. :guw:
We'll see, we'll see
GOOD LUCK TO OUR MILAN! I hope w will beat MU! agregate 3-2 for Milan! And Milan in quarter-final! :grinser:
Yes we have been lucky recently, but no more so than you've been in the past or any other team for that matter. You struggled away to Fulham, you should have lost at home to Tottenham, you drew with Everton and had 2 own goals against Man City. Every team has their luck so that's a pretty poor argument.
Your spawny luck is already effecting us, Shevchenko gets injured, RVN miraculously recovers to play some part of the game and i'm sure you'll have your way with things, particularly with how the majority of your players hound the referee if something is given against you.
Hopefully Milan can give a good account for themselves and we'll be able to go through, either way i think it'll be a tough game for both sides.

my fear is to be forced too much in our half.
Valdanito always has to move to create spaces for Kakā and Pirlo must control the play.
Dida
Stam Nesta Maldini
Cafu
Gattuso Pirlo Seedorf (Serginho) Dhorasso
Kakā
Valdanito
"We have recovered in incredible way in the last games
also not playing in incredible way.
It is a good sign ".
There are some problems but the technician recognizes
them:
"We play little deeply, we are too much lateral,
we are not fast.
We will have to think to various solutions,
and Serginho is one of these ".
"They (ManU) are very good on the bands.
We will have to cover those zones of the field
and to lower the match rhythms
through the possession of the ball."

I wonder if we have posters doing what koku and paul have been doing in our forum, in the MAN U forum. I hope not because that would be a total embaressment for us.
To the visitors of the forum, learn from Styles by keeping your words soft and sweet, because you might have to eat them after this clash!~ :D

It's funny though, that Man U is said to 'battle week in and week out with teams like LIverpooh and Assenal"...
I mean... u consider Portmouth or teams like that as Liverpooh ?
and btw, Liverpooh? um... far from... u know... umm.... top class ... umm.. ijust want to be subtle but...
Rumors from various source said Carletto might risk Sheva with a iron mask in the 1st leg. I don't agree on bringing our spotlight there, AS THE SECOND LEG ALWAYS COUNT.

Why are their Man Utd fans on MILANMANIA.COM??? Thats a little strange. Im sure you lot have your own website somewhere?
Man, I thought those on goal.com were sad for coming to serie forum and making stupid comments/topics. This is even more sad than that. What is it with English people? Cant none of you keep your mouths shut! Thats the main thing I hate about living in the country!!!
Now go away!!!
TO MILAN FANS!!!
Lets hope Ancelotti gets it all right. Without Sheva he is going to have be very careful with the tactics he implements for the game. We'll have to hope for the best but it will be a tough game.

Well to be frank teams like ~Cagliari and REggina aren't particulary special themselves. It's funny Milan have yet to beat big teams like Roma, Juventus and Inter your rivals. You beat little teams like Reggina with ease but when it comes to the big team you draw. And it's not as if Roma or Inter are spectular to be honest.

I am very worried about this game, now Sheva is missing.
Utd are on fire at the moment. The work rate in the team is exceptional, and now Van Nistelrooy will be back, so will Silvestre.
Milan attack is blunt. Tomasson does nothing, Crespo feeds on scraps, and Kaka can't do everything on his own.
I hate saying it but I can't see Milan getting past Man Utd.
I think Man Utd will win comfortably in each leg.

Actually, from the latest reports on www.tgcom.it/sport, www.gazzetta.it, and www.calciomercato.com, it looks like playing Sheva in the return leg at the San Siro would be a risk itself. Sheva has fractured his cheekbone and the base of his eye and his face is a bit disfigured right now. They will use titanium plates to keep his face together until everything is healed and settles down. Sheva will surely miss the game on Wednesday and the derby and chances are he will be out for 3-4 weeks and even when he comes in he would have to play with a special protective mask on his face.
To be honest, given the extent of the injury, I think we would be lucky if Sheva makes it back even for the 2nd game vs ManU. :depress:

Please be advised I am not a moron nor a baboon.
Many thanks
May I request a more curtious tone between Milan and ManU fans in this thread? I know the game is in a couple of days and feelings are running high, but pretty please calm down.
I really don't have the energy to edit all these posts, but I will if this continues.

True.... but you are wrong. Milan usually have difficulty playing against small teams like Cagliari and Reggina. Correct me because I Don't watch primer league. NOtice that you already mentioned 3 big teams in Italy, namely Roma, Juventus, Inter. obviously u leave out Lazio because they were beaten by us twice. So count that in and there will be 5 strong teams in Serie A.
Now wait, how many are there in Primer league?
Man U (if u count ureslf, of course), Assenal, and Childish...
ok, if u want, Liverpooh, but they hardly qualify seriously....
boy... don't f*Ck here thinking Man U has a tough league. That's why Ferguson pisses me off. U have a bad fixture? IT sounds like the Primer league is the only one where players don't have the chance to rest.
Peace

well there are some people who don't know how to pay respect even when they are in other people's forum. LIke u are a Juve player and, say, u come to San Siro and thinking that u can complain all the way without the crowd booing.

To some ignorant ppl here.... here are the statistic of both team
AC Milan (ITA)
Qualified as: Italian champions
Serie A status: First (P25 W16 D6 L3)
Group stage: Group F winners (P6 W4 D1 L1)
Best performance: Winners (1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003)
2003/04 Champions League: Quarter-finals (lost 5-4 on aggregate to RC Deportivo La Coruņa)
Manchester United FC (ENG)
Qualified as: Third place in England
Premiership status: Second (P27 W17 D8 L2)
Group stage: Group D runners-up (P6 W3 D2 L1)
Best performance: Winners (1968, 1999)
2003/04 Champions League: First knockout round (lost 3-2 on aggregate to Porto)
Statistic don't lie. A simple fact that Milan has great tradition and history. European champions league is like a league of our own due respect to Real merdas. We are AFTER NO 7 TITLE. Even Liverfool have better history :dontkn: . Please have great respect to the rosseneri.
Forza Milan Fans!

I don't know what all the fuss is about Manchester United? First of all lets be honest about one thing! The Italian league is far more difficult than the Premiership. Yes the Premier League is all about fast flowing football etc etc but we all know that when it comes to tactics most teams in the English league just don't have clue.
Now I have finished with my winding up of the United fans, I will try and be serious.
I am not trying to degrade English clubs, I'm just saying that when it comes to the crunch Italian teams will always have the edge over their English rivals and more so now with the Milan V Man Utd draw.
Looking back on the last 2 seasons as a team Milan are far supperior (even without Sheva) because we can play both a tachnical game as well as a tactical one were United rely totally on your technical ability. Milan have proven that they can win convinsingly but also pull off a result when things are going against them. This is down to the way the team spreads itself on the pitch and the role of individula players such as Kaka, Seadorf, Maldini, Cafu, Pirlo and Ambrosini. I mentioned these players in particular because they have no definate role on the pitch after the whislte blows but they actually adapt to the needs of the game as the match progresses. On the other hand Man Utd do not have that, their players are "one trick ponnies" and that is were we will beat them overall over the 2 games.
You beat little teams like Reggina with ease but when it comes to the big team you draw.
well, some people say you win the championship exactly by winning the games against `little teams`;)
To tell the truth, this year little ones have proved themselves, just take a look at the serie a table
so called `little teams` are in bold
1.Milan 25 54 (oh i love this!!)
2.Juventus 25 54
3.Inter 25 43
4.Udinese 25 41
5.Sampdoria 25 41
6.Palermo 25 39
7.Roma 25 38
8.Cagliari 25 33
9.Bologna 25 32
10.Lecce 25 32 (depends if you take them as a `little team,presume we do)
11.Reggina 25 32
12.Lazio 25 30
13.Livorno 25 30
14.Messina 25 29
15.Chievo 25 28
16.Fiorentina 25 26
17.Parma 25 26
18.Siena 25 25
19.Brescia 25 23
20.Atalanta 25 17
in the relegation zone are only so called 3 little teams(and look at the rest),i guess that it kind of proves why serie a is so tough.....no offence to premiership though(although i don`t watch it that much)

Middlesbrough outclassed Lazio, Oddo is probably still having nightmares about Downing :D imho neither Boro nor Lazio are anything remotely special.
Roma are strong in name like Liverpool but neither of them are really potential European Champs, especially Roma as they arent even in the Champions League anymore :D
I am not trying to degrade English clubs, I'm just saying that when it comes to the crunch Italian teams will always have the edge over their English rivals
look at the actual results and it says the opposite :nana:
Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and even dirty Leeds have all beaten Italian sides in recent years  To be honest though comparing the leagues will mean nothing on wednesday evening...

Watch a few more of United's matches. You certainly won't feel that way.
A squad player like John O' Shea can play very well as a central defender, full-back, defensive/attacking midfielder. Thats four positions for a player who isn't even a starter. Only perhaps Ruud Van Nistelrooy plays in a fixed role. So they are hardly "one trick ponies".

The thing is about English teams is that you only manage to beat the Italian team when they are struggling! Lazio lost to Middelsborough si, but if you look at their league form they have lost to worst teams this year and as for Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc beating Italian teams in the past, they couldnt have done it at a crucial stage of the Champions Leageu as if you count all the English teams achievements in the Champoins league you will find that its no more than what Mialn and Inter have between them!! Back to Wednesdays game, the only chance you might have of beating Milan is if Alex Ferguson calls Mazoni for some tips on how to organise a 10 man defence in which case you mightg grab a goal on the counter attack but over the 2 legs lets just say "its in the bag"
