I would pay to know how Silvio reacted and the changes he is going to make.

We must be with our team in the good and the bad times I dont think Carlo is at fault beacuse some tired players missed penalty kicks we must keep our head high.

Point is that the game should have ended way before the PK.

Its about time some people showed some respect to the people who have given us a million great nights and a few bad ones!! Milan lost to marsellie and Ajax years ago and will lose more CL finals, deal with it.

We at least played with respect in those finals. Marseille we didn't play our best and lost because of not putting a man on the post from a corner. Ajax, we got whopped by them in the group games and the players turned up to that final with fight.

First of all I think Milan had the upper hand. I for one thought that Carlo's approach of the 2nd half was correct - to get going. Do you really want to risk defending for your life in second half?? However, Gerrard's goal was somehow a fluke, but a good goal nontheless - it was a grand header that most of the time wont go into the net but it did. So that breathed new life to 'Pool and gave them new spirits. The second goal I feel Dida should've saved; and the third - I am still not sure if it was a penalty - Dida did all he could but 'Pool managed to net it in anyway. I dont see it as Milan's (or Carlo's) fault for this matter but rather more like a series of just unfortunate events happening at a string. Plus, Carlo did every right thing by bringing in Serginho etc! It just didnt happen for Milan. They didnt do anything wrong, it was just one of those days. Sheva came ever so close.

And like Henrik would say, that is just my opinion, but I could be wrong

Right, what's the point in having a manager at all then? The manager is supposed to analyse the situation and change it if necessary and keep players motivated. The fault is Carlo as well as the players, he wore them out in the past month and they are no longer hungry. We haven't won in may, and haven't looking convincing for months.

What a load of balloani, theres not a single player here who would have changed the team at half time. Was anyone there to hear what carlo said???????? maybe he said concentrate they can still win and that put doubt in the player's minds or maybe he said we have already won and they all relaxed.

And as far as suggesting alternatives because you dont get paid, if it was up to some people we would sack Carlo and then look for someone who may not be as good as him anyway, yeah really makes sense

in the first half i thought i saw climpses of Sacchi's milan team, but in the second half i couldnt believe what i was seing. After the penalty goal i turned the TV off, and took the dog out. Im just fed up with how the team has been playing since the first PSV game.

We have a habit of being totally outplayed, i think the team needs to be sorted out so this doesnt happen again. I dont know if its the defence, or the massive hole thats left in midfield.

I can see Ancelloti going, i think mr Belusconi is fuming. He will jump before being pushed. Who will replace him? who else played in the early 90s?.... Baresi, Tassoti, Massaro, Donadoni, Rijkard any of those...

I am not blaming Carlo for the loss. I am blaming Carlo for the way our team has been behaving on the field. Deportivo, PSV and now Liverpool. Do you honestly think one of the best teams in europe like Milan can perform like they did in those games? This is not a one time thing guys, this will keep happening. Whether it's losing to bottom teams in Serie A or blowing huge leads.

I am sorry if I'm wrong or offended anyone. If you can explain me how 11 players go from playing the most beautiful football in the world to getting scored on 3 times in 10 minutes and being completely dominated and outplayed, I'll gladly blame all of this on the players.

i guess i agree wiht you. even if we won on penalties, i would still blame ancelotti. that's what i said, penalty is the gamble, we won 2 years ago, and don't expect that you always win. it is ok we end up with nothing, but it is bitter the way we lose. there got to be something wrong if we have maldini and nesta and we lose like this. i am really confused. i don't konw what happened. i am so sad.

I am with our team. Im Milanista for life even if they go to Serie C and go to sh|t.

The point is we have the best team in Europe that for some reason looked like a high school team for 20 minutes of the 2nd half. This happened today and vs PSV and against Deportivo and it will happen again. Carlo isn't an active enough coach to motivate the players.

If you say it's not the coach's fault then I don't know how 11 players can suddenly at the same time start playing horrible soccer and blow leads. We had the f*cking win in the bag. Why keep attacking. Okay fine we're up 3-2, maybe it's time to slow the game down or change the strategy. Carlo waits until 80th minute and 3-3 to introduce subs.

Nadir
25-05-2005, 16:55
But what on earth can he do, hire some builders to bulid a wall????????If the players bottle it its thier short coming not his!!!!!!!1

i agree. it's not carlo's fault. the players just totally lost concentration and let the deportivo disease swallow them up. for instance, just before the second goal, there was an offside call against Liverpool. Instead of waiting for the liverpool players to clear off, milan took the freekick really fast with about 7 - 8 liverpool players around them. immediately they lost the ball and liverpool scored goal number 2. i can't imagine a team like Juve giving up a goal like that.

changes required as a solution

1) seedorf should be phased out of this team. he should get less play time for sure.
2) defenders shouldn't be used as much to make attacks as it really tires them out, especially considering these are aging legs. the big mistake of the night was having maldini and cafu run up so much which tired them out for the rest of the night.
3) kaka was easily stubbed out in the second half. why? because he is too predictable in his movement. as soon as he starts weaving and turning, they double team him and he loses the ball. he is still young so he can grow as a player. what i suggest is he should learn to adapt as a winger or an all out striker - preferably winger, so he can make runs up the flank and save the defenders from making overlapping runs.
4) rui costa and kaka should both play at the same time now and then with one striker. yes the xmas tree formation, if the team needs to defend, is an awesome combo.
5) liverpool moved to a 3 man defence. milan should have immediately made a substitution and put on brocchi or moved seedorf into defence. yet they kept trying to attack. a more neutral position would have been beneficial.

really, giving up 3 goals is ridiculous. liverpool didn't win this game - milan lost it.

Words cannot describe how I feel at this moment. I don't quite know what to say. Is it Carlo's fault is it the players fault who knows. The game was ours and we let it slip. In the first half we seen the real Kaka from last year, second half we got nothing from him. But we got nothing from anyone in the second half.

I'm not going to start blaming anyone, instead I'm going to sit back, wipe away the tears, cry some more and just try to get my head around exactly what happened here this evening. Devestated, utterly devestated...

sick in my stomach, kicking the wall etc.

Carlos gone whose coming in? as I have stated previously this team needs someone to light a fire under the belly and not allow them to take their foot off the pedal . . . either a player or a coach preferably both. We all know Silvio and co. are none too happy about ending the season with no hardware.

Rossoneri Coach Carlo Ancelotti was left ruing “six minutes of insanity” that literally threw the Champions’ League title away.

“We played well throughout except for six minutes of insanity that threw everything all away,” said the tactician after losing out to Liverpool on penalties.

“It can’t be explained, as we did everything we had to and simply had a blackout. We are upset and disappointed, but this is football. Now we will play our last game of the Serie A season and look forward to next season.”

Milan were leading 3-0 at half-time with Paolo Maldini’s goal and a Hernan Crespo brace, but conceded three in six minutes.

Perhaps Carlo is a great coach. I may have him all wrong. Then we should sell half the team because they manage to blow leads in most important matches of the season. Perhaps you are right. Perhaps it is the team that's at fault. Well we need someone new who can create a different mindset for these players. I understand one player sucking or 2 or even 3. But when the whole team simultaneously plays like crap, the coach has to step in.

Yes I seen the first half, awesome. They players had it won in their heads, let a 3-0 slip and we were anonymous most of the second half, even going long ball. ET we were better because Liverpool got more tired and we were allowed more time on the ball.

It's definitely not Carlo's fault.

The players come out in the second half thinking they have won it and they give it all away thanks to losing their heads and run around like headless chickens...

If Shevchenko was the hero last time we won it in 2003, then he's the villain now. He missed the enourmous double-chance in the final minute of extra time, a chance which was ten times bigger than a penalty, and then he missed a penalty.

Liverpool can also thank the referee that didn't send off Hyypia for fouling Kaka when he was clean through and for giving that sick penalty that Alonso scored from...

F*** this!

The only reason you are blaming Sheva is that he went last. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Now I dont know if Rui should stay or not but that post somehow hurt (sorry, a big fan of Rui Costa) but you are right. I was disappointed with him in the game. He lost the ball once and it gave 'Pool the chance to score a 4th.

What can one say?

What if Liverpool got the penalty for the Nesta handball in the 1st half?
What if Sheva's freekick had gone in when we were 3-0 up?
What if Sheva scored at the end of extra time?
What if Dudek wasn't so unprofessional?
What if?What if?

It was a great game. Imagine if Milan were on the end of the win instead of the other way around?

I can't believe it. Oh well. I watched Milan vs Marseille, vs Barcelona,vs Ajax vs Juventus. In those games they never traded goals. They were very professional performance's. Today it was not.

We need about 3 reinforcements, in all areas. Need the coach to stay the same. Need Silvio to stop interfering. And need to look forward to next season.

I would have pointed out the things they done right in the first half, they kept the ball well, looked for the simple passes. Keeping doing that and don't sit back too much because it's not won yet. I would have emphasised the point that if Liverpool were going to get anything out of the game they would have to get something early on, so it's important to try and keep the ball well for the first 15 in the second half and frustrate them as they will be throwing everything they have at us. I would have looking at getting a few instructions to the players after noticing Liverpools' change in tactics after half time.

I didnt like how he insisted on giving the ball to the players (why cant he just kick it to them like Dida did? Trying to psycho them? This is unbelievable and unacceptable. Ambro was sorely sorely missed today. We continue to have a problem with complacency against small teams and with big leads. Berlusconi will most likely sack Ancelotti.

I can't even put into words how angry I am. On the first goal Stam should have picked up Gerrard, on the second it should have been stopped for offside, and on the last it was a questionable penalty after Xabi was stopped the defense should have cleared.

What needs to be done is Milan stop buying the same players over and over again. We get Tommasson, Inzaghi and Crespo who are all pretty much the same type of player. none have been able to strike a partnership with Shev. So what do we do, we go for gilardino. Lets try someone fast like Sheva. The other thing we need some one who will compete with Seedorf and if needed take his place. Then we need to play with a 3 man defence so gatusso can play in the centre because he cant pass to save his life!!

Have to say 100% agree with Nadir here. The coach's job ends when the players take the field, ok not completely but 90%. The rest is up to the team and the captain. The coach does his job pre game in the days leading up and in the dressing room before hand. After that its up to the players. Tonight after the first goal, Maldini needed to relax the players, to get them to calm down and relax. That didn't happen for some reason but its not just his fault its the entire teams fault. Pirlo for me tonight was possibly the biggest culprit of all this.

You cannot blame Sheva. Sheva was one of the better players in the match for gods sake. It wasnt 'criminal' that sheva didnt convert that chance to a goal. Usually it would be yes but you cant BLAME sheva for it. If you blame players whenever he misses a chance (that wasnt a stupid miss, it was more of unlucky) I shudder to think of how many defeats you blame on individual players just because luck wasnt with them on that one occassion wherelse they contributed so much to the team irrespective of that one, little, fault.

And what makes you think Carlo didnt say exactly those things?? Maybe he did and it made them unncessarily cautious. We can be really childish about it but the fact is we dont know what was said and destiny was on the pool's side

True we don't know what he said at half time, however he didn't react to Liverpool's tactical changes, nor say much at all to players at FT (which you could see). I know im my worst enemy at times because I wear my heart on my sleave, but this is getting too much. We've had far too many collapses and this year we've even had quite a few lucky last min wins. This isn't good enough for Milan and something has to change, it either has to be the manager, or the manager has to do something about it. Either way it involves Carlo.

I am very very disappointed like all of you guys and I don't feel that way because we lost the game but because of the way we lost it. I would like to congratulate Liverpool for a worthy champion must know that a game of football last until the ref blows the final whistle and not a second before that.
With all due respect to Liverpool, however, I am saddened by the fact that after a great first-half display by us, the title was ours to lose and that's exactly what we managed to do in the second half. I see this game as the perfect summary of our whole 04/05 season - we managed to lose the games we seemed destined to win easily for we got into the habit of losing concentration and allowing goals in almost every game we showed to be the superior side by a mile. This final looks to be the "perfect" ending of a disappointing season for one overconfident Milan, disappointing not because we didn't win anything but because we could have won everything and we let it slip away due to our, at times, preposterous behavior on the field.
I am sorry to say it but I guess the Depor lesson wasn't enough for us and so we gave ourselves an even more painful one tonight. I just hope that the players will overcome the disappointment and be back at their best next season, this time charged with more concentration and humility.
To look for heroes and villains is always easy when the cart has been flipped over - all Milan players and coaching staff have to be blamed for what happend this year just like all of them should be praised for what happened over the last two seasons.
Forza Milan !!!

I agree to some extent. When the game was about to end, I was saying to myself that Sheva was playing some good ball, creating some opportunities for others and himself. He was leaving guys on the ground.

However, he wasted more than a golden opportunity. I mean, I dont have words to explain it. I dont know why he tried to knock Dudek's head instead of touching the ball as to try to put it away from the GK.
And its Sheva. If that was JDT, I dont know what I would be saying right now.

Hopefully this will make us stronger. Maybe we will learn from this experience. However, the same we said after losing to La Coruña. Same old story.

I`m still shocked and stunned by the game, more precisely ,as Zlatanov nicely put it,by the way we lost it.The title was ours and we let it slip from our hands.I still can`t believe it.I won`t go into the details about the game now, because my mind is in the mess,i`ve been crying a little and nothing makes much sense to me now.Nevertheless,i have to congratulate Liverpool on the title, they did deserve it,as we would if we at least played penalty shoot out as we should.
It turns out(and don`t hate me cos of saying this) that we are bigger losers than even Inter is(no matter how strange this sounds!!!!!),but if every game and every season is a new lesson for us,then i surely hope we are going to learn so much.Whatever the case may be i`ll never lose faith in this team and i`ll never stop loving it.

That puzzled me too. I was expecting Inzaghi to come up. No, I wasn't expecting a certain Crespo who scored a brace to be substituted. He didn't look tired to me. Ancelotti should have substituted someone when it was 3-2. To get us a break and break their momentum. I still couldn't beleive that just happened. It will be a scar in my heart for another 20 years, and I know that. I am still moaning over the loss in 1993 and 1995. CL is way different. I really don't care for Scudetto. I agree with you, in such an important match it's rediculous that the ref made these kind of mistakes. Sheva's goal was disallowed, why? Why didn't Hyppia get a red card? Even the penalty wasn't a clear one. This effects the match very much. I think Milan did everything they could to win this match, so don't blame them. It's only human that you are confused when the ref makes these mistakes. And Dudek, he looked like a monkey, I never seen that before, I don't think it's even allowed and the ref should have warned him. I am very dissapointed because Milan deserved to win the match, because they were better! Forza Milan :3band:

True but 3 at the back exposes you more when you attack down the flanks or quickly with pace. Maldini at least has more assurance with 4 at the back. He was younger back then, and if he played in a 3 now I feel he'd be far too exposed, especially with a lack of pace in midfield to cover (and the team as a whole).

We could have scored 7 or 8 goals, and if we did, we couldn't care less for the stupid six-minute-insanity or wahtever the fvck is, Crespo, Sheva, Kaka,,, Even when we were in the penalties, I was nervous but I still believed we would win. You know what? I don't ****ing pity Milan at all after this match. We deserved to lose, because giving up a 3-0 lead means that you aren't good enough to win the trophy. We had the chance to win both the Scudetto and the Champions League this season, and we blew it. And do you know why? Not because we lacked the quality, but because we lacked the mentality. This never looked like a winning season in either competition, and I say it's because the players are too arrogant, too full of themselves. We do extremely well, and then we **** it all up by relaxing too much and thinking that we have won it all before we actually have. And now we have made fools of ourselves two seasons in a row. I am furious!

And do you know what? We need a new coach. I am sorry, Carlo has been great, but if he can't instill the right mentality into our players, then we have no use for him. We need a coach like Capello or Mourinho, a coach who can make our players fight constantly, and not just when they feel like it. I believe Ancelotti is too relaxed.

Next season is our chance to show what we are made of. I demand a double. I am not kidding. I do. Because we have the squad to pull it off. But that requires our players to be mentally strong. We must bounce back after this. If not, then I will have lost so much respect for this club, or rather our current crop of players.

Now how do you mend a broken heart?

There is only one problem worries me at this point. It's not that Milan came 2nd in every tourney we cared about and didn't win anything. It's not that we gave up a 3-0 lead. What worries me is that this will happen again and again. I cannot name another team that goes from dominating to being dominated in such a short period of time.

You guys can say we'll learn from this but I can guarantee we won't. We pulled a Deportivo against PSV but lady luck was on our side. We lost to bottom serie a teams thus losing valuable points needed to get the scudetto. Milan seems to be a backwards team. When we played big teams we give 100% all game. When we play weaker teams we score a couple of goals and then lose the lead. I have to repeat this again because it scares me so much, this will happen again if something major isn't done. This is a great team with a great coach and a great organization but Deportivo blunder quickly became a PSV blunder and quickly became Liverpool blunder. There will be more if something isn't done.

- avoid the media at all costs. AT ALL COSTS. you do not want to see unwanted headlines about your loss.

- get a massage or facial. works everytime. (for girls usually)

- sleep as if there's no tomorrow. Do not get up unnecessarily. Drown into the non-reality because reality sucks.

- avoid opposition fans. AVOID THEM.

- practise smiling in front of the mirror. You need to fake it when you lost.

- watch old tapes of your team's victory. that'll help you feel better.

- go to another team's forums and act like your team is the best in the world ( I wouldnt recommend this one though)

- Play a football game, pick your team against the team who beat you and destroy them 45-0 on "easy" mode (my fav method)

- take out the shotgun and go Juventino hunting :moan:

- wear your Milan jersey with pride to work, school, wherever. If somebody stars laughing at you beat the crap out of that person or just show them the finger or "number six"

I was more thinking that with Ambrosini we could have provided Kaka more protection he needed. As I said, I only watched teh first 50 minutes until Hamman came in. Kaka was free to do whatever he wanted! I seriously doubt that he was doing the same for the rest of the game, since if he did, we would have won 10-0!!! probably something wrong happened to him, and whether it had anyting to do with Hamman I don't know. And I don't want to watch the game again. :(

Also, ambrosini seems to me a player that can motivate teammates on pitch, yelling and shouting. And I insist blaming Ancelotti for not making any substitute when we were still at 3-2. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING TO BREAK THEIR MOMENTUM. If it stayed 3-2 for another 5 minutes, we would have won at 5-2 or 4-2. My heart is so broken.

I wrote this some time back when I was frustrated and some friends contributed the tips but I dont know if it helps. You can try. Tips :

Thanks, Sally. That was very sweet of you. Do you have to be a Juventino?? :) I hate your team so much.

It had nothing much to do with players but their mentality. We dominated the first half. We dominated much of the 2nd and we spent almost 80% of the time in Liverpool half during extra time. We have the players now we just need someone to wake them up.

None of us should be blaming missed chances at extra time or missed penalties. The game was lost when the score became 3-3. This is unacceptable by Milan standars.

Quite frankly that is so selfish of the entire Milan team. They broke a lot of fans' hearts today all because they couldn't continue playing well for another half hour.

But it doesn't matter anyhow. Crespo scored twice after that and that should have been plenty.

I watched that part, he was offside, very slightly. But he was offside.
Agree. It was a correct decision by the linesman. In fact I can only congratulate the linesmen in this game for they had it right in a number of very close situations.
Can't blame the referee for Alonso's penalty too - I watched the situation a number of times and you can see how Gattuso catches Gerrard's foot. The only bitter taste as far as refereing is concerned comes from the way Dudek was allowed to behave during the penalty shoot-out, but I guess that's part of the game, an ugly one, but still part of it.
Anyway, we should have won this game long before the penalties and for this we can't blame anyone else but ourselves.
We will bounce back guys, and for this to happen Carlo has to say. It would be a grave mistake to sack him especially in a moment like this one. Hopefully, Silvio has more brains than emotions right now.

Well my commentator didnt say nothing bout the ball being touched by a 'Pool player and even after replays I didnt notice it either, I guess I was too immersed in seeing whether Sheva was offside or not. Hmmm

My point too. I didn't see it touched, so probably I was wrong. However, what's the point discussing that anyway? We lost, in a heart-breaking way. And Liverpool now can keep this cup. :nervous: I am so jealous. How I wish we can have two (I was talking about the real trophy!)for us...

im extremely depressed and im considering suicide for this utterly and disgusting season

the only reason we lost, was the fans.. i just returned to the hotel from the stadium

WHERE THE FK WAS ALL THE MILAN FANS?!~?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Maybe 90% of the stadium was liverpool, and they kept cheering them even when they were 3-0 down!!! I cannot believe that there werent more than 5000 milan fans.. all of which in the curva.. i nearly got beat like 4 times for shouting alone, but i was in between the liverpool fans unforunately..

after they scored their first.. their fans kept singing and that boosted them, that made them score a 2nd, and a 3rd in a very short time... and in penalties, serginho shot it high because of the liverpool fans whistling.. it put hell alot of pressure on him. poor sheva, it just wasnt his day..

TOMASSON? WHY THE HELL IS THIS PIECE OF SH*T STILL IN MILAN? Berlusconi will deal with him this summer.. he certainly didnt look pleased at the end of the game, i saw him stare disguustingly at carlo ancelotti..

i really cannot believe we lacked character to lose a 3 goal lead.. all that talk about having 10 days to be ready and saying we will win it.. all vanished in just 6 minutes..

anyway, there is no use in trying to blame refs or anything.. to me, i'd blame all the milan fans that didnt come.. they are the ones that lost the game in my opinion..

and this liverpool side that won this trophy, is the luckiest side i think that have EVER won it.. even porto last year deserved it more! Liverpool beat Olympiakos in the last 3 minutes... then against, Juve, a 100% correct Del Piero goal at Anfield was called offside, and they were lucky that Cannavaro hit the post at the end of the game at Turin.. and with Chelsea? Their goal didnt even pass the line ffs! And with us? omg.. I cannot believe that double-save in the 117th minute..

dang, i dunno what im saying, i really feel like killing myself

Agree with you, Nadir. In fact JDT and Kaka scored their penalties in a very professional way. Saddly, it was our best PK takers that failed to take theirs but again this game should have never gone to penalties.
Now we are the first team to have ever lost a final after taking a 3-0 lead. JDT is not the one who should be blamed for this for he has been very good for us in the past month or so.

Filippo Inzaghi will not even have the chance to play this evening as Carlo Ancelotti decided to place 'Super-Pippo' in the stands.
The Milan striker wasn’t expected to start, but the reasons why he won't even get to sit on the bench are unclear as no last minute injury appears to have hit him.

Italian television station Sky Sport 1 is reporting that Ancelotti and Galliani had a strong discussion over Inzaghi’s exclusion.

Shevchenko and Crespo will form the AC Milan starting striking duo, while Tomasson will be ready to come-off the bench.

he is definitely one for Milan, along with Tassoti ... but only after Carlo has decided to leave. I know it is the coach's job to keep concentration high but sometimes things don't depend entirely on him alone - players are also to blame for fall out like the one we witnessed tonight.

pippo didn't even make the bench. it's ok because ancelotti's tactics in terms of attack worked fine - they scored 3 goals. what more can you ask? that being said, the team's attitude stunk.

Also, confirmation that Carlo stays Milan's coach.

SILVIO BERLUSCONI: 'Milan played better'
5/26/2005
ISTANBUL - Silvio Berlusconi spoke after the game: 'Football is like politics: one thinks they have won and then you don't. Liverpool's three goals were very strange. They had three chances and took them while we had plenty at the end. Milan played really well. As for Carlo Ancelotti leaving, I don't think so. I don't sack anyone.'
-=============

let's be clear about one thing - milan lost the game in attitude. not because of the ref, not because of PK's, not because of the coach, or the tactics - just attitude. and this is the most base, lowest denominator. if attitude is missing, then we shouldn't even complain about ref's decisions, because it is like saying, "we don't have any money to buy bread but we want to complain about the clothes that the bread salesman is wearing."

fantasheva
25-05-2005, 18:23
ANCELOTTI: 'We weren't second to anyone'
5/26/2005
ISTANBUL - Carlo Ancelotti had nothing to reproach his players apart for the six minutes when Liverpool got back into the game: 'There is plenty of disappointment, we were a step there then it fell apart. We played well throughout except for six minutes of insanity that threw everything all away. However, I am not going to reproach my players, they did everything they could. We have shown in Europe that we are not second to anyone. We will be back to win this cup. I repeat, we are the strongest in Europe.'

I'll be honest. After reading this I have hope. In a week this bullsh*t will be forgotten and a new year will begin for our Milan.

It wasnt a sarcastic remark. Really. :u56:

its good news for milan because it adds stability to the team. we don't want to be like roma or inter - with 4 coaches every few years lol.

it's bad news for milan if carlo doesn't do something about the defence and teaching the team how to hold on to wins. man, 45 mins into the game, we were thinking of where to celebrate. now i am thinking, where to cry so nobody sees me.

Exactly.

This could have been a memorable final for us. ...

You don't expect our captain to score every game. :proud:
The quickest goal in the final;
the oldest scorer in the tournament (according to UEFA. is it true?)
The first team to throw away 3-0 lead.
Damn it, if I am not wrong, we were also the 5th team to throw away any lead. Didn't we also lead the game against Real Madrid in 1958?
Also, LIverpool's perfect run against white-jersey teams still continue..
They got to keep this real trophy for good as it was their 5th..

I don't think I can recover until we win our 7th cup. Taht's too much for me. I am not afraid of Juventus and Inter fans coming to jeer at us or throw in insults. I couldn't care less. I don't support Milan for that. I love Milan. that's all. I just need some time, maybe a long long time to swallow this bitterness.

The best 45 minutes of football by Milan in the Ancelotti era, magic play, the best Kaka' I can think of, then Sheva almost made if 4-0 before those 6 minutes of craziness. I'm not sure what to really say, seriously.

I guess Milan should work on mentality as we clearly have had negative impacts in cup ties when trying to hold leads.

Well, I guess we should think ahead and prepare for next season and work on our weaknesses.

That's why I am so sad. last year and this year we had golden chances!!! You don't expect yourself to be in the final just because you play well!!! you have to have luck and everything. Last year all the team got eliminated, Arsenal, Madrid one day before us, I thought we were there!! And this year we faced Liverpool, a UEFA team for crying out! No offense, but without their coach, they should be happy that they ended at 5th in EPL.

We played well tonight, not to mention the textbook first half, even in the second half, I don't agree with some of you here who claimed we were worse. We are better, always better. But that's football, we played well for 114 minutes, they did for 6 minuts and some insanity during the shoot-out, and we lost. We did it to PSV, and it came back to us. We won on the penalties to Juventus, and it came back to us.

Fvck it. :(

goodnight all. i am going to bed. take care and don't be too depressed. remember, what makes us Milan fans is the fact that they bring us such great joy when they do win, and we are fortunate that they DO win a lot. It is moments like this that separate the bandwagon jumpers from the true red and black fans.

So be proud of the fact that you are still here, still a fan and crying with the rest of the rossonerri into their cherished Milan home jerseys.

Be proud of the fact that you are part of a family of Rossoneri - from the Trinidad, to England, to Spain, to Italy, to Jordan, to Malaysia, to China, to Australia, to Canada, to Brazil! Be proud of the fact that it is terrible losses like this that make the victories all the more special because we know hard they are to get.

Don't be depressed over the fact that we had victory snatched from us. We will - WE WILL AND HAVE TO - learn from this and it will make us a better team in the future.

Be consoled by the fact that the next year brings a new jersey, new players and new tactics and we will be once again cheering together as one family for the boys again. Sure we may disagree with each other once in a while but I love all of you red and black boys and girls :) yes even the mythical Paolo Inzaghi haha.

SO FOR NOW, and FOREVER, we are and we will always be ROSSONERI. TWO SILVER MEDALS IS ACTUALLY PRETTY AWESOME! so congratulations to Milan for that.

SHOW YOUR MILAN PRIDE TONIGHT AND TOMORROW- wear your jerseys out there. WEAR THEM WITH PRIDE and tell anyone who asks why you are wearing them that you are a PROUD ROSSONERI and you have REASON to be be proud. Cus we have the best damn team in the world with the best damn pedigree and the best damn jersey.

FORZA MILAN PER SEMPRE!

Few points to make: quotes

"Nonetheless, the Premiership outfit is currently unable to come back and try to win it again, as victory no longer automatically qualifies them for the next edition."

They can't defend their trophy. Unbelievable.
--------

Shevchenko had converted the winning spot-kick in the 2003 Old Trafford shoot-out, but saw his penalty saved this time.

“My mind was clear before the penalty, but I knew I had to score and the goalkeeper performed a good save. I saw him going to the right and tried to hit it centrally, but he left his leg trailing and lifted it.”

Paolo Maldini opened the scoring after just 57 seconds, but was the most gracious in defeat and prevented his teammates from going straight back into the changing rooms.

“Maldini told us to wait on the pitch and go to salute the travelling fans,” revealed Shevchenko. “These are strange nights, as we managed to throw away a 3-0 lead and still couldn’t seal it despite having the opportunities to do so. It hurts to miss the decisive penalty, too.”

Bravo Maldini.

Good ol' Paolo. Gerrard was also nice in shaking everyone's hands. Although Costacurta looked like he wanted to bite his head off.

Maldini holds head up high Wednesday 25 May, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paolo Maldini maintains Milan should be proud of their performance, while Hernan Crespo thought the first half was too good to be true.

“The Champions’ League was our primary objective for this season, so to lose it like this is incredibly painful,” said the captain who opened the scoring after just 57 seconds.

“In any case, we had a great campaign and cannot complain about our performance. We leave this Final with our heads held high.”

Maldini was seen shaking his head in amazement during Liverpool’s celebrations, having somehow thrown away a 3-0 first half lead in the space of six minutes.

“Many little things went wrong and now we are here commenting on an undeserved defeat. Even after they came back to draw 3-3 we had plenty of scoring opportunities. If I remember that double save on Shevchenko then it gives me goosebumps.”

The veteran was able to make his seventh Champions’ League Final appearance, though he has only won four trophies.

“We reacted well and played better than Liverpool, while I thought the Premiership side was rather lacklustre on a fitness level,” continued Maldini. “We won’t give in, but this is a bitter pill to swallow. I am sure this match will come back into my mind a lot over the years. Even the memory of scoring the goal has been ruined as it was for nothing.”

Hernan Crespo had bagged a brace during a perfect first half performance from the Rossoneri and admits it was all going too well.

“It was too good to be true,” said the Argentine. “I still can’t quite believe that in football these things can happen, but we’ll try again next year. Liverpool managed a remarkable recovery and Dudek’s two saves on Sheva were just incredible. Hopefully we can put all this behind us with the summer holidays coming up.”

Diego Armando Maradona was in Istanbul to commentate on the match for Sky Italia and was disappointed with the outcome.

“As with everyone who has played in Italian football, I thought that on 3-0 there was no way on this earth they could get back into it. Milan always played and Shevchenko had the chance to win it at the death. I’ve seen some comebacks in this sport, but never when faced with such clear superiority as Milan showed in the first half.”

I am not sure with Crepo's comment 'We leave this Final with our heads held high.” NOBODY held their heads high after throwing away such a comfortable lead and losing the game in such a way. Right now, the morale of the team is definitely at a record low. This is, now, not the time to blame or bash on any single individual-players & coach alike. We win as a team. WE LOSE AS A TEAM.

Just as shocked, sad and disppointed as all of you are, I believe, however, we must move forward. I will eagerly await a new positive season.

Well, I've kind of snapped out of the depression now and am trying to understand what needs to be changed atm. In another thread about this I posted the main problem I think we've had in the cup this year. So I'll just copy and paste that post here....

I do think attitude was the problem, but I can't say it was due to overconfidence. In fact, to me it seemed more a lack of confidence.

I hate to say it, but since previous encounters, of which the Depor match is at the helm, the players seem to lose confidence if a team has a slight hope of getting back into a match in which we are dominating.

The final was no difference, Gerrard was left unmarked for the first goal. At this point, the players should have composed themselves, taken note of the situation and realised that Liverpool would attempt to apply great pressure. Instead, it seemed the players went into a state of panic and lost control of not only the game and possession, but also tactical awareness and positioning, which allowed Liverpool space in front of our defence. Then, once Liverpool level things up, the players were put under so much pressure that they were forced to attempt to dominate the match and control precedings, which they once again began to do, stopping Liverpool completely.

To deal with this problem, firstly the players must at all times make sure that there are never any lapses in concentration in the side. If the opposition score, then the side must regain its composure and shape as soon as they kick off, to prevent the opposition from taking advantage of our vunerability at the time.

I think the most important element needed above all atm in this Milan squad is growth in confidence and mentality to deal with pressure. Since Depor, we seem to have gotten weaker at dealing with such problems, which results in us struggling against pressure.

I think the problem we have is a lack of hunger. I doubt there is a team in the World today that has players who have won as many major titles as we have - European Cups, UEFA Cups, league championships and World Cups. I didn't see any player shed a tear after the final whistle, as if losing didn't really hurt and it should have. I think the team is spoiled on success and we need some new personal to inject some hunger and some desire. If we get all out targets i.e. Gilardino, Oddo and Jankulovski there is no reason why we cannot win the double next season. It's time to spend money again.

yeah, I agree with Paolo....Bravo !!!!

Strange night, it's a night when all the things against us !

Luckily I didn't watched it on a restaurant with majority of Scousers inside.
But I decided to watch it in hotel room, where my friend stayed.
At least I was not add anything to humilations. Since 2-3 days before CL match, some person I knew at my place started jeered on Milan.
For the 2nd time I got deeply hurt ( 1st time in Riazor ), becuz I'm a Milanista who took everything casually and with less feelings compare to other Milanisti, and this odd night like a dagger in every Milanisti's hearts.

It's really get hurt when you, as a Milanista, watched ESPN which more biased to Liverpool side. I prefer TV3 Malaysia as a channel to watch, since the commentators tend to be more neutral, more fair and square. Tho visual quality were not good as ESPN.

I must admit bitterly that at 1st half, it's amazing, superb and having a momentum that even a witty P-I-G-G-Y, if got that kinda momentum, might flying high, but we started to be disoriented in 2nd half and back in form at extra time. And got slashed in penalty-shootout. I realized this weakness since our lost in Eindhoven.

But players are human too. Made mistakes, admit it and learn from it. I don't want Milan fans/supporters become what happened to L'Olympique Marseille when Robert Pires played there- most supporters made players' life like in hell. And motivated him to leave LOM for Arsenal.

We're get hurt and IMO players tried to be persistent.

To those who was dissapointed with Milan performance tonight and to find out that we're trophyless, and found out that no sadness in players' faces, Plz rethink back.

At first, I was also angry, sad...but then.... it's gone away becuz thinking of this :

Since 1988, I got a spiritual bond with AC Milan, but making my vows to Rossonera only on 1994 since there many confusions, obtacles and whatever. In 1988, when I saw AC Milan name on newspaper, My heart skipped a beat. Bounced to height of emotions that undescribed by words.
I took my vows in 1994, since that experiencing the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows in more powerful meaning. It's blissful, it's magical.....

It's magical marriage, and for 11 years I enjoy this marriage very much. The strong bond which not caring abt having or no glorious title at all. Honesty is everything. There're no other club like AC Milan in my heart. Tho I tried to switch to Juve, Parma, ( and surprisingly )Inter or many Italian clubs becuz I love some players. Somehow, my honest and more mature heart, my instict finally brought me back to AC Milan. I was so brave to take the decision for making a vows. And no regret !

To a true Milan fan, trophiless season just a little matter. IMO, it's a testing time for self-acceptence and self-learning. Of course your maturity too ...to overcomes all role playing, ego, pride, and superficiality. Either you and Milan are meant to be or just a bandwagon/gloryhunter... 11 years, like a gap between Maldini's goal in European competition by Milan is good enuff for a Milan fan to evaluate him/herself.

We learns ! And I hope Milan will be better next season !

See? Time heals everything :D

I dont know... sometimes I feel that the fact that Carlo recycles the team for the whole season is partly to blame. I am not blaming Carlo directly but as the season stretches at times Milan just looks so ... tired. They cant focus for a full 90 mins in the game.

Galliani confirmed Ancelloti stays.

That is good news, I hope Silvio agrees with that and don´t change the decission next week or so. Hopefully he will buy some new forwards until next season.

Grande Paolo!! :v408: :respect:

I have to say, that I agree with both Carlo and Paolo in their statements made after the game (both been posted here in this forum)

I am proud of the lads, they showed that we are the better team.

a little note, we scored more and created more chances against Liverpool in ONE game than Juve and Chelsea managed to do in FOUR games. :)

Sorry ladies and gents, but I'm gonna put this bluntly and as honestly as I can. Milan choked. Choked like Van de Velde on the 18th at Carnoustie. The first fifteen minutes of the second half was just something out of an incredibly bad movie. Has anyone in this forum seen the "The Hustler"? The first half hour when Fast Eddie is kicking Minnesota Fats' butt out of $25,000 after 25 hours of straight pool? Only to lose it all because of his arrogance? I dunno, I stumbled upon this great film after fidgeting all night last night. Watching that movie definitely was an omen I should've made a note of. If only I had changed the channel and watched something else, who knows, maybe the result would've been different. But anyway, I earlier posted some nonsense saying "we need to keep the faith", yadda, yadda, yadda...but after watching this debacle a second time I'm not sad, depressed, disappointed, I'm furious. What is it with this team? Either we're incredibly arrogant or incredibly selfish from one man to the next, refusing to take responsibility for what's going on in a particular moment and waiting for someone else to step up and dsomething. I don't understand, WHY DOES THIS TEAM REFUSE TO THRUST THE DAGGER IN DEEPER?!?! WHY DO THEY PLAY NOT TO LOSE? You know, the first time in the Riazor, okay, no problem. I believed they had what it took to overcome that. But to let it happen again on the biggest stage at the worst possible time? This is ridiculously inexcusable. This has happened once too many times for me. So I say, Yes, sack Carlo. Let him go to Roma. Replace him with who? Tasotti. Or someone who won't coddle the players too much. Someone who can push buttons when need be, someone who can be a son-of-a-***** one moment and then a total sweetheart the next. Someone, anyone, mentally strong. Someone with some fire in the belly who can take charge. Carlo doesn't have that and he didn't demostrate that last night. Oh yes, he's a fantastic tactician for the most part (except tonight and in other instances) but he's not a very good babysitter. The players we have require a slave driver whether they like it or not. They have all the talent in the world and they're handsome and they're all that with a bag chips and I love 'em to death, but we need a manager with some testicles and some real leadership qualities, folks. The players need to have the fear of death in them each and every time they suit up. And that fear has to come from the manager. This is the only way I see us getting over this Depor disease. This disease of giving up big leads has happened under Carlo too many times in his career. Disagree? Let's go.

to all milan fans ignore the above inter comment, thats just someone who gets pleasure out of people losing cause his team cant win anything. anyway onto my thoughts...

i think we were unlucky but thats football , our first half was perfect and that was the problem too good to be true so we thought we had already won , u can only blame the players and coaches to an extent, most milan supporters would of been thinking we won it so as if the players would of been worried about loser, hunger was there as u cant go 3-0 up without hunger HOWEVER as many others have mentioned milan need to learn to stop momentum as we have lost leads all too easy .. maybe it has to do with some of the players bodies our squad is old! we need youth at the back ! anyway . liverpool just pushed and got it! i was so angry, upset and in shocked but now 10 hrs later i feel like i love the club more and cant wait for next season. the coach should be kept if he has the desire to get revenge and win the champions league again and serie a . i think we need a few new players to keep the hunger within the squad. we must get rid of thomasson as he is not a quality player and inzaghi needs to go , any other player who gets inj every 2 weeks for 2 yrs straight would of been sold. We must learn from this and depor and move foward! and thats football and the beauty is there is always next season. We are lucky we have a team and club who can push for this every few years clubs like liverpool will prob not win the league for another 20 yrs who knows! i leave on sheva's great quote

"destiny gives a lot and takes a lot"

forza milan seeya next year !!

How the hell we could lose in that way ?? It looked like it is over after the first half but very sadly we threw away a three goal lead in the space of six minutes and couldn't snatch a winner even though we came close . This season will always be remembered as we were unanimous favourites to win both the Scudetto and the CL and ended up empty handed . I have to say that our first half performance was one of our best ever but sorrily we blew everything . Full credit to Liverpool and their great coach Benitez who led them to glory with a squad short in quality compared to us . Steven Gerard performance was miracolous yesterday defensively and offensively and we should do everything to lure that player away from them . I am so sad for our legendary capitano Maldini who scored a wonderful goal on the volley but still couldn't lift the trophy . Anyway we should look forward for next season . FORZA MILAN .

When we were having 3-0, I felt pity for Liverpool. I didn't know that the wheel was turning exactly in those moments...

FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the biggest sporting disappointment that i would have ever experienced in my lifetime! i cant see a bigger football's tragedy than this! i feel that the players gave liverpool chance to come back. why the hell was noone marking gerrard and smicer for the goals! also, the amount of bad luck in one match were just too much.

milan will always be my team, but this defeat makes me does not care too much about future's result anymore.. i love the team no matter what. i feel sorry for kaka and crespo who gave fantastic performance only to be let down by the team! i have never seen milan play a better passing game in the first half and that through ball from kaka to crespo was just the best that i have ever seen.

Firstly I'm still in shock from last night, so I'm probably not seeing everything I should, but I can't believe no-one has mentioned some of the decisions that went against us last night. I'm certainly not trying to take anything away from Liverpool, who have battled against the odds throughout this season, but they certainly seemed to get the decisions in their favour....

1) Gerard blatantly dived for the penalty for the 3rd goal. I was watching the game with 3 Liverpool fans and they all said he'd dived even before the TV replays. Why did no-one, especially the commentators here in the UK, pick up on it?
2) When Kaka got taken out by Hypia (I think, although it may have been Carragher) early in the 2nd half, he was going past the last man and would only have had Dudek to beat. Surely if the referee gives a free-kick (which he did) he has to send him off? From what I can remember he didn't even book him! Yet when Gerard got his penalty, all the commentators were calling for Rino to get sent off...
3) For Pirlo's penalty, Dudek was so far off his line, he was actually outside his 6-yard box when Andrea hit it. Why did the referee and linesmen not spot this?

Again, I'm not trying to take away from Liverpools win, and I thought Dudek was amazing for them in the penalty shoot-out. Our players need to look at themselves for letting a 3 goal lead slip, but the above points do need to be addressed.

thats true i was watching the highlights and id like to add some points:

4) liverpools second goal scored by smicer should have been canceled because if you look at it carefull youll see that baros and another liverpool player were offside when he took it and infact baros touched it on its way (with his hand to be accurate) and even the linesman noticed this yet the referee ignored him. that same linesman called so many bad calls against us throughout the match and that idiot of a ref kept butt kissing him, why didnt he do that during that inccident?

4) some may argue with me on this but i think shevas goal shouldve stood, it looked fine to me but maybe im being biased, yet im sure they would wave play on around 75% of the time had it not been a final...

I am still very frustrated can't help it. Everybody is laughing with Milan, and after 1ste half we were just the kings of europe ... I think some of our players have mental problems after depor ... When a team strikes 1 back, it's like some of our players are afraid and start getting nervous ... unbelieveable, 3 goals in 7 mins ... A team like Milan should NEVER allow that !! This is really a big dissapointment, even bigger then riazor ...

jdt scored the penalty.
jdt scored against PSV.
JDT scored against palermo.

why are you blaming jdt for losing this game? is it his fault?

he had a perfectly good opportunity to seal off the match and he looked like a rookie the way he fell down... even if he got his foot to the ball which was possible his shoe angle was wrong...

i was sooooo sad that i was the last person to leave the bar and i was forced to, i couldnt even look at the screen after sheva missed the penalty... these last 2 days have been the worst in my entire life!

This is tottal crap!!! You simoly cant waste 3 goal lead in champions league final!!!! And all this talk about pippo just so he could put JDT in. He cant score!!! CANT SCORE!!!
As Maradona said : " when u are 3 goals up, it has to be over! ". And carlo says we were good,we were, but we lost it damn it!!! Inter was also playing good against us!!
We played all that crosses and liverpool has really tall defenders, great plan!!!! It ws red card on kaka when hypia fouled him!! Im so iritated when carlo says or berlusconi say we played well....we did but f....k it when you loose a 3 goal lead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just cant defend it seems.....

Congrats on a final well played. Extremely unlucky to lose to us and just remember that You Will Never Walk Alone.

You guys played one of the best 1st halves ever and to be honest, you guys did not play badly in the 2nd half either so please do give some credit to Liverpool in the 2nd half for playing so well to fight back.

Dudek has unusually become our hero but the men of the match for me had to be Hamann and Hyppia. Hyppia as he was solid as a rock and winning headers both in our own box and Milan's too during corners. Hamann as he managed to mark out Kaka and really did what he does best.

For Milan, it would be Kaka and Sheva for me. Kaka in the 1st half destroyed us and Sheva was a constant thorn in our side.

Last night was the greatest night of my life and feel for you boys too. Hopefully we will meet again next year in the Final again. I applaud your team and wish you all the best of luck for next year.

I definately agree as my last post said. We MUST sort this issue out before next season.

If you ask me, as far as buying players go, not too many changes are needed, instead the mental issues must be sorted out.

Thanks for complimenting our performance Black Jack, congratulations to your side.

thanks ... but i think gerrard played the game of his life, he played at RB and its not easy to stop serginho, yet he did it more than once...

i tihnk our best player was pirlo, he just tormented your team throughout the match, then comes kaka with some amazing passes although i tihnk at times he shouldve shot, crespo had a great game and i hope he stays, i think maldini could be in there as well, his goal was pure class and throughout the match he ran up and down and fought with determination more than anyone else on the pitch

yep Pirlo was the best among all and also Maldini was too great when he convinced them to take their medals.
i also hope that Crespo stay he is a very great striker one of the best among the world.

Sheva had an even better one but still missed it ... not to mention the totally amateurish penalty he took, unlike JDT who scored his in a very professional way. Should we get rid of Sheva too? One thing's or sure - Chelsea would love to talk contract with him.

liverpool may not be allowed to defend the cup..which i find strange. i don't give credit to liverpool for fighting back because Milan just let you guys get back into the game. If MIlan continued playing like in the first half, Liverpool had no prayer of a chance. oh well...some teams get lucky. liverpool will not win this cup again in the next 10 years or so.

:u56: : Just figured Im the only one smiling in the forum right now....might as well "celebrate"

and you are celebrating the fact that Inter will never be as good as Milan, will never make a Champions League final, will only dream of winning a scudetto within the next 20 years, or dream of being in 2 finals in 3 years in the CL, and that the biggest cup you can hope to win in the last ten years is the Coppa Italia? Yah... inter fans should totally celebrate lol.

your post reminds of a story where a pauper was laughing at a rich man because the rich man tripped on a rock. the rich man can still get up and walk off and remain rich whereas the pauper still remains poor :)

in the prolongations, L'pool played old fashion italian catenaccio. They relied on the pen's, Milan should have believed more in victory then. Why not change Gattuso for Rui Costa (or other player) sooner then ? L'pool didn't even try to go forward in the prolongations ... It's simple, the best team lost, but if you give away a 3-goal lead so easily ... like i've already said, i think some players are still mentally not good in some situations, after the Depor-disaster ... It is not normal that Milan that is 3-0 ahead gives away the victory ...
