View Full Version : vieri's form
Hi everyone,
I just wanted 2 c ur views about vieri's form. he scored today for italy. but his form was really alarming. he missed many chances and he almost messed up the goal he scored. he isn't his usual self where he will score from any position or any touch. i use to think he was one of the best in the business a few years ago. but to be honest im not sure he is what he use to be. I hope the goal he scored will boost his moral and pump him up to rediscover his old self.

His form does concern me a bit actually. He hasnt been that sharp upfront at all to be honest. Look at the way the man plays, you can tell he is really frustrated with not scoring. However, I wouldnt write the guy off just yet. Hopefully, with confidence restored, he will find his scoring boots soon.

I really think that now that Vieri has broken his duck he'll have the confidence needed to keep scoring. I think that Vieri should be given more starts while he is gaining form because I think he is more of a hot and cold player where as Gilardino will need to be given time before he becomes what we all expect him to be.

Hope Vieri will improve as he did not play bad today, he played utterly disgusting.. something that really makes you feel sick, even worse than Gattuso trying to shoot on goal on try to run down the wing.. Gilardino on the hand is clearly improving game by game, I did not see either his goal or the chance he missed, but im optimistic that Gilardino will be extremely useful to us this year.. Vieri? I dont know but i wish him the best

:angf: eeeeediat Vieri....of course he misses sitters...he couldnt hit the broadside of a barn with an uzi.
Saying Vieri and Form in the same sentence is like saying...I dunno...chocolate and lime juice in the same sentence.
Though I sincerely hope for Milan´s sake that he finds form soon, I know that to be as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack.
I have completely lost faith in his ability to do anything but miss goals, and if the highlights of the Italy game I saw were any indication of his "prowess", he needs about 3 more years of practice kicking balls into an open net before he will be a consistent scorer again.
More starts? :wallbang: :frustrat: Please, he should be relegated to the Primavera, and I honestly think that Lippi selects him for the WCup at his, and Italy´s peril.
I would put Inzahgi in before eeediat Vieri any day. Hitmannq8 and I seem to have a convergence of opinion insofar as this clown is concerned.
As long as he wears a Milan shirt, I will not condemn him completely, (though the above comes awful close) and will continue to offer prayers to any God, Gods, or Goddess who will give my pleas for him to score a divine ear. I will even sacrifice my first born (pet guppy that is) in the hope that he will have a 20 goal season.
Unfortunately, if he manages to do that, he will probably have wasted 10 times as many chances, and only score vs relegation cannon fodder, secure a starting place, only to waste chance after chance in the derby or vs the Zebras.
Carletto, please bench Vieri for the remainder of the season, only putting him in to replace an injured/tired player, or for tactical reasons.

I have not been impressed at all with Vieri's form so far. I would prefer to see Gilardino and Inzaghi partner Sheva up front and save Vieri for the Coppa Italia or late substition roles. His best days are long gone and he slows down the Milan attack.
I would prefer Ancelotti go with one striker in some cases, if say Gila or Sheva are out of the line-up. This will give Milan an opportunity to play Rui Costa a little more and also give Jankolovski or Serginho more opportunity on the wing.
Keep your fingers crossed for a positive result vs. PSV today - anything else would make things rather tricky.
It would help Vieri i he just used his strength more and held up the ball for other players.
Saying Vieri and Form in the same sentence is like saying...I dunno...chocolate and lime juice in the same sentence.
i think we should have a competition to see how many times those two things occur in the same sentence.

I've always supported Vieri since he is a Milan player. I always thought: 'he just needs a goal and then he will score many goals after that.'
Last Wednesday, he scored against Empoli, so I was convinced that Vieri would play great in the following games. But what did I see today? :irritate:
His performance this evening against PSV was awful!!! His movements were so slow and he looked like he was not interested at all. I hope Ancelotti will always give a preference to Pippo, Gila and Sheva from now on. Vieri needs to work hard on training, and maybe within some months, he can try again to prove himself.... when his form is much much better.
And to all those people who said in the very beginning that Vieri wouldn't play well in Milan... :v408:
But still, I'm happy that I gave Vieri a fair chance!
the thing is that, ancelloti really believes he will be back to his best, how does carlo know him, he never coached him b4. and i hate the fact that gila is always the first player to be taken off. gila is way better than vieri. It seems like vieri will never b back in form , he lost it.
Well if Ancelotti doesnt realise quickly, hell be asking Vieri for a lift out of Milanello.

ok, if u want 2 start comparing gila to vieri i have no problem. how many championships has vieri won ONLY 1 and that was 9 years ago. gila has got lots of time to win championships.
about the world cup gila will play in his first world cup ever as a 23 year old, while vieri played his first ever world cup when he was around 26.
and IF you have been watching milan games you would c that gila did more for the team than vieri. ( i don't think u've been watching milan games lately, saying that vieri is better than gila and critising rino after the juve game)
viere was great and that is a huge WAS. and i would love it if he proved me wrong and started finding his form of 3 years ago.
p.s. it seems to me from ur posts that ur an inter fan

Vieri is way past his peak, right now he has got the deadliness of a fly and the touch of an elephant... Oh Gees, how can Carletto put up with him?
Well, he has come for free and he scored a goal... Come on guys he is the mascot of our team, pretty much our Teddy Bear wearing pink panties :)

I believe Vieri’s biggest problem is in receiving the ball. Once the ball is passed toward him he panic like if he never seen a ball in his entire life! This makes him wander around the field trying to get hold of it, killing whatever chance there is to score. His positioning also needs some attention from Ancelloti. He’s always way back in offside or behind the defense waiting the ball to be drawn directly on his feet. I think Ancelotti should focus on training him to send and receive balls again and his movement within the penalty area, this will boost his confidence and makes him able to support Sheva or Gila. But to be fair, at the moment, almost the entire squad is not in their best shape. Well maybe Kaka and Sheva are. Our win against Juve was a result of their spirit and pressure they forced in the game; it wasn’t “brightness” as Ancelotti would describe it. The defeat against PSV clearly showed that. I think that Ancelotti is aware of it and that’s why he took Gila for Sheva instead of Vieri. He’s aware his team isn’t ready yet and its important for him that Vieri doesn’t feel alienated and that he’s part of the squad, even if that meant our loss against PSV. There are still 6 points to gain in CL and I think Ancelotti won’t take risks in loosing any of them in the future matches.

Who's form can you truly be satisfied with? Has anyone...save the phenomenon known as Maldini...stunned you with their consistent brilliance week-in, week-out??
Save the spray till the moment he is the weakest link, because I think his success for Milan will be a product of team improvement as a whole. I recall, when Inter depended on him to literally lift them to victory every game, he would go 3-4 full games without a goal, then score 10 in 5 games. He is a player that needs time; the fact we have such high quality competition in the attacking positions does not afford him that time.
But...team confidence is as contagious as the flu. They have belief within one another, but they lack the invincible mentality that was so prevalent during our record breaking season.

Gila is 10 years younger than vieri. I wanted vieri at Milan but 5 years ago, he WAS a legend. With inter in his good days he used to score 24 goals in 20 games but in the last 2 seasons he has been crap.
On the other hand, Gila is 23 and scored more than 50 goals in the last 2 seasons and this year he scored 5 at least and is more dynamic than vieri.

Vieri is a waste of space. We have to thank him a lot for our current position in the UCL! I don't care one bit about that two bit mercenary who joined Milan to anger Inter and did it for convenience as he did not need to change homes. Milan did the same to get him for free and hoping that he would be a hit like Pirlo, Seedorf, Simic et al which would rightly tick off Inter.
The joke is on us and we are paying a price for not making a footballing transfer but a transfer to tick off our cugini. You just don't purchase strikers who are over 31! Bad bad move. :o

Lets see: Vogel(with a one match exception), Pirlo (in most matches) Sheva, recently Gattuso, Dida, Ambro (before his injury), Stam (for most games again), Nesta, do I need to go on? Kaka, Rui..when he gets a chance...need more?
Save the spray till the moment he is the weakest link :haha: puhleeeeease..he is the weakest link, because of him (and Carlo selecting him) we played with 10 men for the majority of the game vs PSV.
because I think his success for Milan will be a product of team improvement as a whole. No, I beg to differ, I think his success and improvement will be a miracle! If it is at all possible.

Nice recipie...need to ask the wife to make it for me sometime! Thanks!
Warro...I said consistent brilliance, none of those mentioned are playing to potential on a weekly basis, for an entire game. Do you really think we are devastating at the moment? Do you have the confidence to wager your every penny on Milan success each week, or are we still prone to lapses?
Ascoli - Milan -> Stam caused goal, looked sluggish
Siena -> Solid team performance
Fenerbache -> Volel invisible, Gattuso and Pirlo average. Vieri debut after injury quiet (77 min)
Sampdoria -> Stam bad, Kaka and Sheva quiet. Vieri on for 11 min
Lazio -> Vieri 81 min, quiet. Team well balanced
Treviso -> Pirlo quiet for his standards, team ok
Schalke - Pirlo and Kaka poor, Vieri on for 19 min
Reggina - Vieri full game, team mediocre, Maldini extraordinary
Cagliari - No standouts, clinical performance
PSV - Average team performance, Sheva quiet until injured
Palermo - Average game, Inzaghi good, Vieri on 66min and lively
Empoli - Vieri and Gila best afield, goal and brace respectively
Juve - Defence and midfield great, forwards quiet, Vieri on at 69 min looked ok
PSV - We all played bad and yet could easily have drawn had that penalty been awarded
Consistent?? As I said, the hardest position to play in rotation is attack, touch and understanding is developed through time and practice. How can you judge on a handful of games? Is it not promising he is getting chances? Understanding with teammates comes first, then touch, then goals...I think he's almost there.
He is lacking confidence since he has never felt so much pressure, but if he returns to form, honestly, I think he is our most devastating player. When on fire, scoring in the air or by foot, he is one player defences cannot contain. Don't tell me Carlo is that inept that he selects Vieri for the sake of it...he obviously sees something in training or on the pitch he believes is promising. Time will tell I suppose...

1 "if he returns to form"-- Vieri has been trying to find his form ever since World Cup 2002 and all he did is go downhill buddy. I see no potential whatsoever in him. He cant control the ball FFS
2 "I think he is our most devastating player"-- now you are obviously exageratting because u r one of Vieri's fans.. Our most devastating player? More than Gila? More than Sheva and Kaka? I believe Vieri's best form, will be nothing at all like Gilardino's bad form. I think all he will be able to do is use his body balance and return the ball to the midfield sometimes, otherwise he is useless. I think this transfer must go into the worst moves Braida has made ever. Very stupid.
And please people, dont bother telling me how its still start of the season and all that he is going to find his form soon and be our most devastating player! whats left? and get the golden d'oro award next year?, that is just ridiculous, Vieri is finished

I see your point but still, I beg to differ
Be aware, I selectively chose the word "if" as I intend to remain impartial and constructive. I am no prophet but I am entitled to an instinct which I convey through my opinion. I don't know if he will come good, but I think if he is ever to return to his devastating form, he will through the quality of the Milan team and the precision of the service he receives.
I like Vieri, I love Shevchenko...Sheva is consistent, Vieri is explosive. Devastation is not a goal every week, that is consistency...Vieri is capable of 2-3 goals weeks on end...and then nothing for a while...
But time will tell...
Well let me put in my take on Vieri. I feel at his age and his style of play, he is a very one dimensional and limited player that does not improve with age but rapidly declines. He's not a good passer... yes strikers need to be able to set up plays too! He contributes little to helping the midfield and absolute zero in helping the defense. He was exceptional at his off the ball runs on a through pass on to goal but with these defenders being faster these days I dont see how this is an asset to an aging player like him. Basically and unfortunately he is limited and not surprisingly such players will only take a team so far if at all and that is why he's on the bench and should be until whatever "best" strengths he has as a player can be used during and only a specific timeline in any given game. He cant expect to play a full 90 minutes anymore, whereas when you look at Inzaghi as in this past match against Udinese, Pippo was a well rounded player who did much to assist other team mates to score rather than being the sole goal scorer himself. What??? He got maybe one or even two assists in this game??? When was the last time any of us seen Vieri assist anyone but himself on goal???

Actually, Kui, I agree with you 100000%, with the exception that I do belive Vieri made a header to Gila (I think) for him to score in the Serie A this season.
But to revert to the main theme of your post, I again, agree wholeheartedly, and was about to write a post, singing :5love: Pippo´s contribution, and use it to compare with Vieri´s limited involvement in the matches in which I have seen him play (most of his games, unfortunately :moan: ), when I saw your post on the matter.
You have however, said all I wanted to say, so thanks! :delol:
But let me add this: I have enjoyed the debate with Pablo I, and understand his fondness for Vieri, after all, if my son could have loved the purple dinasour called Barney, I can understand people loving or liking anything, including our own version of Barney: Vieri!
Ok, in all seriousness, Pablo I, please take no offense, I am merely poking fun at a player, especially since the missed sitters vs Korea in the WCup, that I have looked on with less and less favour. You are entitled to your opinion on the player, and I applaud your faith in him, and imagine the smugness, and the plates upon plates of humble pie Kui, myself and others will be eating if he makes it into double figures this term!
Vieri was, IMO, a talented player, that has unfortunately, been unable to cope with the ravages of time, and the increased pace of defenders.
I have not condemned him, no, I have not written him off entirely, though he is getting closer and closer to that. I recall my tirades against Bierfoo....I mean Bierhoff, and did cartwheels when I was told he was leaving. I hope not to do the same with Vieri, who was always a better player than the German, but just wasnt smart enough to call it quits when he should have.

I appreciate your sentiments Warro, I do recall you being forever the diplomat in the early days of these forums.
Kui...how can one forget this man? As wise as an owl, as loyal as a dog, but as fierce as a lion deprived of lunch during times of antagonism. Do you remember the old cast: RIO, Oleg, goose and co? Remember the rows we used to have with Marco, the quintessential pessimistic supporter? It's been a while...Is Debs still a frequent poster? I would so love to catch up!!
With regard to this topic, once and for all, I only take solace in the fact that he is on the end of opportunities which is the precursor to actually scoring goals. I still think he has a part to play this season, as a super sub to some effect, which I believe was Milan's plan all along...someone to sub for Gilardino. His brute size and strength would lead me to believe he can still score headers and at a minimum hold up the ball. His timing is off, his touch is lacking but they are elements of fine tuning as opposed to advanced age. I think he lacks confidence, but I most of all, I think he is the victim of submitting to pressure, particularly that applied by himself. His application and his determination to the cause at hand cannot be doubted, I just hope his efforts are rewarded with a few more goals.
The only thing I object to is the blatant denigration of our team, our players, as I always have. I remember the attacks on Zac, the team and certain players in particular, which I was particularly adverse to once upon a time. To label someone a mass of excrement should be reserved for those we disdain (like Ruud Van Nistelrooy), not those who we should support.
PS - For interest sake, did anyone see the Ruud excerpts from Viera's autobiography regarding Van Nistelrooy? Wow...what a laugh! He is dirty though...

As far as Vieri... well sorry to be on the opposite side of the aisle on this debate. But there is hope and I'm more than willing to be proven wrong as his success will also be Milan's success. So there still is an open door on this debate for another six months. Besides it isnt the first time we argued like this before. Heck we argued with fireballs thrown at each other only to find out we actually agreed on the same friggin issue! LOL! ANyways you stick around more now.. you here??? This isnt a hotel now where you check in and check out fool! :argue: Good to have ya back!

Anyway, I cannot get mad at Vieri anymore. I know he was such a good player once upon a time, but his age is starting to take its toll on him :( That's why I don't think he will ever regain his form again...Sad,.............just sad

Yes Pablo I! Glad fi si di I back ya man! (Ok in english: Glad to have you back with us...man!) I do recall seeing you as Pablo, way back when.
As Kui says, stick around dude...nice to have you with us again.
HeHeHe...I do recall the good old days with fondness, in particular our passion, commitment and the way in which we consoled one another during times of dispair!
My disappearance was not by choice but that is a long story. So if you dont mind my longwinded and often yawnsome banter, I would love to pop in from time to time.
I do remember Nadir, he's still around? What about Bodat, kris, ct, ACM1899...
