I booked a ticket to vacation in Istanbul next week before the fixtures were announced. When I realized that I would be there for the match, I was so happy. Got my tickets and will be there live! Although I will have to be subdued because Fenerbahce fans are not the most forgiving, especially if they lose.

I also have the possibility to be there, but it's not 100% sure. I'd go with some friends, I wouldn't be alone...

I think if we this game, this will REALLY be the best way to "overcome those demons" that the press talk about..

I agree, it is a beautiful city, and it is just unfortunate that it happens to be the place where we suffered what was probably the worst loss in our history. Regarding getting my ass out right after the whistle blows, that was pretty funny. So you don't think that the my Milan Jersey, hat, scarf, flag and face paint will give me away do you? :3band:

I totally agree :5nana: :5drunk: :) Plus it is a fact that most of the Turkish fans are not able to take defeat gracefully... Even if I was born in Istanbul, I am still objective enough to admit certain stuff. No offense taken :pp20:

The game is going to be played at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on the Asian side of Istanbul. Last night the WC Play-off between Turkey and Switzerland was played at this very stadium and a melee broke out between the two sides. Looks like Turkey can be banned from the UEFA 2008 European Championships and WC 2010...

after what happened in turkey-switzerland im really worried about security.. as hopefully they will suffer another defeat (fener that is) :D they will be even more pissed. the swiss players were fearing for their lives and it was just horrible what they went through.. i really hope security is beefed up and our players and fans (if anyone dares to go) are safe.. I wonder how voggel is feeling tho. after going through this incident with switzerland now he has to go back to istanbul with milan :wallbang:

I gotta be honest. I will be surprised if we even win. With a big weekend game and some flashes of inconsistencies, I hope Milan will still be on a hot streak. Several weeks ago we were just brilliant in Serie A. With the International breaks, I hope we can keep it going. I dont know??? I get these bad feelings and maybe it's a good thing cause it always comes out opposite. LOL!

Everyone talks about how scarry things may get over there but let's not forget that a game could be stopped and we could be awarded a clean 0-3 result if things really get out of hand. And after what happened in the Turky-Switzerland game, even the slightest form of "misconduct" could result in the game being abandoned.
So, I am not worried at all regarding Fener fan behavior, actually, come to think of it, I would love to see them go mad and start throwing fireworks and stuff on the pitch for that way we could get full points and save us some energy :)

I'm still going to the match, but I'm not wearing any Milan stuff or colors. I'll be cheering to myself and my friend very quietly. It isn't safe at all, but I have no reason to worry as I'm sitting in a neutral area and will not draw any attention to myself. I wouldn't miss it...

I was thinking about Vogel...I feel like he is going to get booed even if he does not play.

Warro Bantan
18-11-2005, 18:31
The mere fact that Vogel plays for Milan will incite the mob I am sure...(no aspersions being cast on Turkish people on a whole, but certainly on those idiots who feel that throwing things on the pitch and ill treating opposing fans and players physically is acceptable behaviour) and I wouldnt be surprised if Carlo opts to leave Vogel behind in the relative saftey of Milan. (After all, Seedorf was held up at knife point recently). :rollani:

I think winning this match, in the intimidating atmosphere that I am sure will prevail, will go a long way in exorcising the demons of the "insanity in Istanbul" last UCL final.

That being said, I am sure the Turkish authorities will be making some amount of effort to ensure that, being under the UEFA and FIFA spotlight, their fans, officials etc will behave in a civilized manner.

We should win this game, as we are generally a class above this team, but as seen in Schalke, playing away in this group is no easy task, and with their fans giving them support, any slip up by Milan will surely be punished.

I think we will win though, though I remain anxious to see whom Carlito selects.

MIRZA

I don't know why are you all worried about Vogel... So what if he will be whistled by Fener fans, he is proefessional player and the things that hapend off the pitch mustn't affect on him...
I think that this will be very hard game for us, we must win and I think that we'll start to attack from 1st minute..We all know that Fener play great on their stadium, and that they also must win if they want to go into the next fase.
I hope that we will win!!

i just saw fio-mil highlights again and if you have it at home look at fiorentina second goal, nesta made a mistake but that isnt the problem, the problem is that only 3 defenders and 2 midfielders were back, serginho was late, and 2 midfielders werent even on our half, so we played defence with 5-6 players, and that is why teams always make a lot shots from distance ( psv, schalke, fiorentina....). We need to work more as a unit today, if we can be tight in the CM, fener can do nothing, but with these kind of team control we can just pack our bags. RUN for the love of god!!!

from UEFA.com : :rollani: :rollani:

Fenerbahçe absences
Defender Fábio Luciano and midfielder Marco Aurélio both serve one-match bans while playmaker Alex is out with a hamstring problem.

In-form striker
Those attacking intentions will be boosted by the form of striker Tuncay Şanlı, who scored a hat-trick for Turkey against Switzerland and scored another in Fenerbahçe's 2-1 weekend win over Manisaspor. Maybe Nicolas Anelka will be fit to play, as Márcio Nobre looks likely to take the place of Alex behind the front two.

Maldini view
Milan captain Paolo Maldini, who announced this week his intention to retire at the end of the 2006/07 season, insisted the absence of Alex would be an advantage to the visitors. "He's a quality player, but in the end Fenerbahçe are a team that play well at home. At home they attack much more aggressively. We will have to make sure we don't give them too much space."

Defensive losses
Milan, who lost 3-1 at ACF Fiorentina on Sunday, are without the suspended Jaap Stam and Brazilian defender Cafu, who picked up a muscle strain in that defeat. :depress:

ok i hope kaka is ok..

this is the first time and i hope the last time that i will ever say this, but today RUI COSTA IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.. 2 100% goals he couldnt finish because of his lack of confidence, so many times he could have passed but he wanted to dribble and ended up losing it.. his touch is very bad as well... Rui is playing terrible so far.. i hope he plays better 2nd half..

I did not see Kaka get injured but i noticed him storm off to the locker rooms.. I hope he is ok.. Simic is having a wonderful game! I am one of his doubters but he proved me wrong, SO FAR.. he's really playing well down the right but everytime he reaches their area, he decides to pass and go back to defence! That's probably instructions from Carlo.. Seedorf started very active but then slowly faded away... Why did we buy Jankulovski? When will we start to use him?

brilliant play by SEEDORF, brilliant! you can't ask for more from a player. I hope kaka' isnt seriously injured, rui cant do it on kaka's level, aldough he did play good second half. Gila was ok, losed his concentration in second half, but he was running and passing well, lacked a quality touch and finish. Sheva ..... scored 4!! need more? gattuso was a real fighter did a lot in defensive, VIERI sucks tottaly!!! we MUST sell him ,or loan him, or give him to someone for X-mas! i hope this means pippo will play on saturday. and.....PIRLo......briliant at offensive, saometimes horrible in defence. Lacks jumping, tackling, he needs to be more agressive! more agressive in defence!! but, did perfectly up front. we did play a great game , but we still can improve on our defence when we let too many crosses and shots on our goal ( mostly Pirlo is late ). Anyway, bravo Milan for today's game.

I ALWAYS loved Simic, and after his amazing performance as a right back during the 2002-2003 season I wondered why he wasn't played as much as he used to, but hopefully, with this very good display, he will be able to unhinge Stam and Cafu from the right back position, as at 30, he's youthful in comparison. I truly hate ESPN coverage of CL and Serie A in Australia, they seldom show Milan games despite their claim of featuring the tops teams every week. They didnt show either game against PSV, even as a replay even though it was billed as game of the week on both occasions. On Sunday, they preferred Treviso v Palermo as opposed to Fio v Milan. What a joke...and I got to pay for that rubbish.

As a result, I was reduced to internet based text coverage on Eurosport which is actually really good and very prompt with reporting live action, faster than ACMilan.com

So Sheva's goals were great huh? I wonder to what extent Kaka's injury is, can't find any reports as yet. How fortunate are we to have to class of Rui Costa as back up? Most other players of his quality would demand a transfer to play out the remainder of his career on a regular basis.

No matter how good a result this is, one must bear in mind we need a positive result in order to qualify for the next round. It's hard to imagine PSV won't defeat a poor Fenerbahce, so the remaining spot is decided in our fixture. We are at home, we have superior GD and need only a 2-2 draw or less to progress. However the opposition will not be oblivious to this and they will throw everything at us in order to claim the ultimate scalp. With Sheva in form and the midfield firing in front of 80,000 ravenous Milanista...how can we fail? Forza Milan!!!

A great result that sent us very close to qualifying to the second round and beautiful display of attacking football all the way. Most importantly, Sheva is back to his best and what an amazing record scoring four goals in a decisive match with his killer final touch. The only blow was Kaka's early injury when he pulled his muscle while latching onto a pass on the right early on. Hopefully everything would be fine with him. We need to show the same consistency as there is no room at all for further domestic slip ups. Forza Milan.

My player review (having watched the match delayed)

Dida: Fantastic save to keep the Fener scoreless, was off his line in a flash when necessary, and saved Serghino´s embarrassing poor first touch that the ref could have considered a back pass: 8
Serghino: Not a bad game offensively, but was a little slow in getting back. Good work all round, though he nearly casued some concern with a mistimed clearance/control:dontkn: : 7
Maldini: How does he do it? Another almost flawless performance:8
Nesta: Brilliant game, composed, never flustered, and even was in on an attacking move, made a beautiful one time cross that was wasted by...let me think..Gila?:8.5
Simic: He showed real class, with good touch, great positional play, was hardly, if ever beaten to the ball, and wasnt shy in helping the attack. Wonderful game, from a player that hardly plays: 8
Pirlo: An average game for this man usually translates into a masterclass in passing and today, while he wasnt glaringly brilliant, a good game nevertheless: 7.5
Gattuso: A terror in the middle, uncompromising, and gave little away in the offensive third: 8; Replaced by Vogel: NR..good from what I saw, but not enuf time for me to really evaluate his impact
Seedorf: On form, definately on form. Every single attacking play had his signature on it, especially the ones that resulted in goals. Didnt tarry on the ball overmuch, and when he did, they had to foul him to get the ball. Brilliant from the Dutchman, the Clarence of our UCL winning season showed up today. MOM, IMO: 9
Kaka:7 wasnt on long enough, but while on he was good, but a bit below his brilliant self..heavily marked, and came up injured after 15min or so. Replaced by Rui Costa: Good performance, and played better in the second half. Had his shirt ripped off, and a good contributor with Seedorf for some of the goals, and some of the near misses..excellent lob to Clarence in the dying minutes of the game, that the Dutchman was profligate with:7.5
Gilardino: Good showing..held up the ball well, was in good positions, wasted a chance, but I think he did ok:7 Replaced by Vieri: Off form, but contributed to Sheva´s fourth goal with a nice cross, to be fair, I will give him a 6.5 as he did nothing after that assist. His lack of pace was so obvious.
Sheva:What can one say about a man that scores 4 goals in a cruical UCL match, and away from home to boot? That he deserves the MOM...yes, but without Seedorf´s impecable assists, wouldnt have had the 4 goals. Should have scored more, but that would have been waaaay too spectacular for any human (though it could be argued that Sheva is superhuman :D):9

Ancelotti: Picked the strongest team, managed to make good subs for the most part, and importantly, gave Vogel an opportunity to exorcise the demons of the WCup qualifier...excellent man management:8.5

An excellent performance by Milan, and one of the games this season that shows the team is becoming more than the sum of its parts. A total team effort, with everyone helping each other out. The midfield was compact, Gattuso a non stop cannonball...Seedorf giving us a vintage performance, and Sheva converting. The defense hardly gave Fener a look at goal, and when they did, Dida came up strong.

Consistency is what we lack, but with a few more performances like this, we look just as threatening as Chelsea, Barca and Bayern.

FORZA MILAN!

An amazing game by Milan. The player that impressed me the most, even though Sheva scored four goals, was Dario Simic. He definitely proved that he needs to play a lot more, he is actually a much better option for the right back position than Jaap Stam.

RUI COSTA: ‘We are never satisfied’
11/24/2005
ISTANBUL - Manuel Rui Costa commented: ‘This victory reminds me of Coruna, of Inzaghi’s hattrick victory over Deportivo in 2003. Andriy did very well tonight, but a hand goes to everyone. It was not easy for me to enter, I didn’t expect it. I tried to fit in quickly, it was an advantage that we were at 1-0. It went well, I am happy. After 8 consecutive championship victories, we lost in Florence and today we demonstrated that we know how to make a turn around, we demonstrated that we are a great group. We are never satisfied. We are missing one striker for the qualification? We want to defeat Schalke 04. Being able to play the hero is what life is all about, above all for those that play less like me and Dario. Simic played an excellent game, he played the least and responded the best. It was splendid.

Sheer class on the pitch, sheer class off it. What a player! What a man!

simic did ok, but not as great as some people are making out of his performance.
sure, he doesn't play much, but fenerbache barely attacked, and when they did, it was anelka on to nesta and maldini.... maybe i just have a bad perception of him, cause he's normally a shaky, weak at controlling defender. i'll be mpore than happy to be proved wrong. carlo obviously doesn't think cafu and stam can regularly play there.

also, it's funny how sheva good have had 6-7 goals without exaggerating. as good as sheva is, he's only back from injury and not in the best of form. i think it just underlines the poor defensive capabilities of fener.

nevertheless, milan will get a lot of belief from a game like this.

btw, what's a "blue eye" Bosniaco?

actually im watching the replay right now, and both teams are playing very sloppy. fouls are being committed every other play and looks like both teams are looking for chance to counter attack. either way, sheva's goals were amazing. truly a world class player.

forza milan!!

Sorry, I could not write here for some time, I had to fight with some health problems. I came here to write "congratulations!" but I saw this sentence. So, strange! Anyhow, congratulations, you had a great victory. We did not do anything to win. We have to pray for the next year I guess. Next years never end, you know.

PS: Hope Kaka's injury is not something serious.

We all miss u mate, you should not have lost to that team called Tromso at the UEFA cup qualifications. Haha!

I wish you had something else to do, for example, support your team maybe? Because all the time your stadium looks empty to me? It must be terrible for the players to play to 157 fans?
