Its one week away from today. We need a 0-0 draw to qualify, but we should not play for a 0-0 draw because that is very hard to achieve. We must go to the game looking to attack, and also keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately Maldini seems set to miss this game again :(, and Cafu and Ambro will also be unavailable due to injuries, and Dida is doubtful. Rino will be suspended from this tie.

btw, does anyone know how many cards all our players have? i want to know which player is 1 card away from getting suspended.

anyone have the probable formations for this game? i predict it to be something like this:

Kalac
Stam - Nesta - Kaladze - Serginho
Vogel - Pirlo - Seedorf
Kaka
Pippo-Sheva

agree on the line up...

I agree on the line-up too, even though Gila is great he just seems like he is not confident enough to play well in the Champions League. Its not a matter of skill, we (well, most of us) know that he has enough to play well. I think he just isn't confident enough yet to deal with the pressure of European Competition. In a couple of years, he will be a force everywhere...

yes,that will be the lineup for sure, its just too bad Paolo will not be ion there for this one. lets hope he will be 100% fit for the next round.

We might see a Seedorf (right) - Pirlo - Jankulovski lineup in midfield..i remember carlo tried it out a couple of times early in the season, but right now he has no faith at all in Jankulovski, and i dont blame him given his bad performances of late.. he needs more confidence, and ancelotti has been giving him alot of minutes every game, but he doesnt seem to improve at all.. i hope this will change soon..

I think the lineup vs Empoli will give us a rough idea on who will play against Bayern. I predict Seedorf to rest, and maybe we'll see Vogel have a start and finally Marek can have a full game, either has a midfielder, or as a LB. IMO, this game vs Empoli at home, before the bayern game in 3 days, is the IDEAL game to test Rui in Pirlo's position. Who knows, he might be even better than Pirlo at the moment given Pirlo's dip in form! I hope Carlo shows some bravery with his selection in the lineup.

03-03-2006, 11:25
Ancelotti giving Jankulovski a lot of minutes to play???? When? MArek needs to play 2,3,4 games in a row ato gain his confidence and feeling back. All players need that. He plays 10 minutes in the end when the game in decided and that is not he way to bring a player back. When he steps in, our game plan is already finished. He is a great player,and im really surprised about his bad fitness and stamina status, he has potential to play as bood as Nedved or almost Zambrotta. But not with sitting on the bench like this.

I am more confident that we can get a result vs Bayern at home, and coming off a match where we were given little or no space...(I counted all 11 Empoli players defending on numerous occasions on Saturday) I think we will do better vs the Germans, given that they are forced to attack us, due to our away goal advantage.

The key to this match is to not concede, or if we do, to outscore our opponents.

I think we can do this, I believe we can do this, and I hope Madame Luck favours us...and since we know that fortune favours the brave...then we must be brave as well.

We shouldnt sit back vs Bayern...that would be making it way too easy. We need to play our usual game, and use Kaka´s pace to trouble them on the counter.

With Pipos recent performance, I see him starting, though somehow, I have a feeling that Gila may still get the nod over Inzahgi...why? :dontkn:....maybe something to do with him being stronger physically?

Whatever....we need to win this match boys..or at least keep a clean sheet!

MILAN – Russian referee Valentin Ivanov, who will oversee the Champions League Milan-Bayern game on Wednesday at the San Siro, has refereed 24 Champions League games for 13 home side victories, 6 ties and 5 visitor victories. He has refereed the Rossoneri on 3 occasions for 2 ties and 1 victory. The last game was during the 2003/2004 season when Milan defeated Deportivo La Coruna 4-1. He has never refereed for Bayern.

I've seen him in international competition, he seems like a good, reliable ref who lets the game flow and doesn't make too many mistakes. I hope this game will be the same.

mrki, jankulovski has been roughly the same amount of chances that pippo, simic, and vogel have gotten.. pippo and vogel have proven themselves, marek is yet to prove himself.. simic on the other hand, tries his best, but he is just not good enough :/

I can not believe Juve just won. They are the luckiest bunch of ***** ever, and I am quoting that from something a Juve fan put at the Juventuz forum. I was only there to check on the score.
They were down 1-0 at halftime, then managed to win 2-1 after Trezeguet and Emerson scored.
And they were about to crash out of the Champs League...
But their confidence must be down, I think we should beat them Sunday.

Uhh, the opposite - their confidence is up with this unbelievable goal they scored. You should all see what that bloody Werder keeper did. He had the ball and then he droped it...ahhhhh.And it was in 88th minute.
I know that Milan also scored some late goals in last minutes (Ajax, PSV) but it was always a goal from a chance, not a goal from keepers mistake....ahhhhhh

Now Milan must win against Bayern so they can go in Torino full with confidence and prove who's the best in Italy !!!

I for one, am estatic that Juve won today. Not only did they use up the last of their luck, but they will be playng as many matches overall as Milan will be...therefore there is now greater potential for fatigue etc. to impact them as the Serie A race continues.

Having used up all of Dame Fortunes gifts, they will be sore out of luck when we demolish them in Turin!

But back to the match tomorrow...I hope our fans bring thier vocal cords with them, as we want to drown the Germans with songs and chants of support!

You can't blame the Werder keeper guys, from what I heard he made amazing saves throughout the 2nd half. Anyways, what would you expect its Werder Bremen vs. JUVENTUS, the luckiest club in the world. Hopefully that was the last of their luck.

Correction, you CAN blame the werder keeper. I just saw the replay on the FSW report, and I can't believe he did that! And after the incredible stops he made before! Just probably over concentrated on the fact that they were minutes away from knocking Juve away, and then, BAM, a lack of focus and Werder are the ones crashing out instead of Juve.

He doesn't have a very good rep in Milan fans actually. When we beat La Coruna 4-1, the scoreline was very unfair for us. We could have scored 7 or 8 goals, if not for the stupidity of Ivanov and his fellow-assistants. Nobody cared too much (complaints were heard of course) until we were swept out two weeks later. :5milan: I remember he also presided the game between us and Inter, the famous euro-milan-derby too. Not really impressed by him. ...

about doper's victory today, it really is a discussion of opinions. I am all mixed myself, but leaning towards them being kicked out. If they were out, I would be very happy, 'cause I believe there is already no hope for us to close the 10 point gaps domestically, so it would be nicer if we have one less competitor in Europe. It is not like we can still catch up in the league. and I kind of hoped that they lost badly so their confidence would be destroyed and that could do us some unexpected favors in the domestic battle. it is NOT like last year when we stood a very realistic chance to beating them to the scudetto, this year it is different. anyrate, they have won, and it is important for us to win too. then again, so long as we win, and only if we win, the trophy will be ours. we should focus on ourselves more than others. :)

True, and we've also knocked them out every time we've had to face them. But I don't have a good feeling about this match. Actually I'm very nervous and uncertain... but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. It would be devastating if we were knocked out now. This is the most important match of our season so far, and I hope the team has a stellar performance tomorrow.

There's been a lot of talk about Kaka before this tie, but I think that if there is one of our players that could decide the match on his own, it's Sheva. He has that incredible ability to play at his best and score goals when it matters the most, and I think he could do it again tomorrow.

But damn... I have a really bad feeling about this...

Juve not only luckly in CL. Same also in serial A and also referee preferenc. They may struggle to face Milan in next match.There presure is on them as we already 10 points behind...They need to play very well.Not only need, must.

I really hope Pippo will start as he in top form now.It a waste if his form is not been fully utilised.Gila seems struggle in the match Vs empoli.In midfield Vogel will start replacing Gattu.

Well, milan can go through the next round confidently.And even win as wat kenny_shev said.Last few year saw all the favourite were out.There were non favourite with Liverpool, Porto winning the CL. This is a good change for Milan since we were not the Top 3 favourite to win the CL. It clear favourite for Barca n JUve as every one will pay attention and the pressure is on them...By the Milan have less pressure and less worry of Serial A n Italian Cup.There only one focus n that CL. No last season tiredness and pressure as chasing for both can make you with NONE!!!! Aware of this JUVENTUS!!!!!!

PREVIEW
=======

This one is coming a little late. I wanted to wait to see what happens on Tuesday night because this game has me in two minds. The law of averages is bitterly against us. Last night's results also resulted in not a single home team losing! The good thing is that there were two draws and only one home side won on the night! Last night there weren't many goals which is a UCL tradition sort of. On one matchday there are goals galore and on the other night it is a little slow on the goals. Keeping in mind the teams that are playing tonight and how the ties are balanced, it could well turn out to be a goal fest UCL night.

Bayern's superb undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of Hamburg SV while Milan continued their good run. IMO Bayern lost at a bad time because had they escaped the weekend without getting hurt, Milan would've won sureshot tonight. We will know in a few hours if that Sheva save and Gilardino miss were costly for Milan. Milan usually plays well through the month if the club starts off the month well. I have noticed this pattern especially under Carlo's reign. Well, Milan did win the game on the weekend convincingly but Ancelotti wasn't pleased with his side one bit. The good thing was that Milan kept a clean sheet but the bad thing IMO is that we scored three making it possible for a goal scoring glitch tonight and also being susceptible for conceding.

The law of averages is against Milan tonight but the form and performance is in Milan's favour. There is stability in the defence as Kaladze has started to relax in his role as a central defender while Stam is doing well in his RB role. Nesta looked solid in Munich and it maybe an indication that he looks far more comfortable with Maldini or Kaladze in central defence rather than Stam.

I'll be honest in saying that this game has made me a nervous wreck. When things are going so well as they are for Milan, bad **** is just around the corner and I don't know what awaits us as we pass the corner.

Bayern cannot be given the opportunity to start getting comfortable on the ball. There are two main factors to prevent that from happening.

1. Milan's midfield has to do what it has done this season in the big games. Boss the game. Control the midfield and neutralize the strength of Bayern's midfield.

2. The Stadio San Siro has to "Raise Hell"!! I cannot stress this enough. Ancelotti was spot on in his reading that the Devil's Den will be a cauldron of hell tonight. The crowd has to push the side through the 90 or even 120 as I mentioned before because it can stretch that long. There is no excuse for not making your presence felt due to being nervous. We are playing a European heavyweight capable of winning away from home, not a second tier European side like ..... :lala:

3. Last but definitely not the least. Do it for Maldini. If that isn't motivation enough then I am lost for words. The team has to do it for him. We as fans have to do it for him.

============
---> M I L A N <---
============

Milan pulled off an unlikely result. I say unlikely because one has to look at the general consensus / opinion and not the Milanisti to see what people think of your side. It was the same thing last year vs. Utd. Ancelotti's Milan in particular has not failed to deliver against the odds but at the same time his side has had a problem to deliver the desired results when being tagged as favourites. It might not be a bad thing actually that this tie is hanging in the balance irrespective of the result in the first leg. Milan finished the first leg on a strong note and that can help the psyche of the team. A draw is always considered a tricky result away from home in the first leg by me because the visitors come with a nothing to lose attitude in the second leg. The Redondo Show at Old Trafford and Utd. fightback in Torino still flashes in front of me when this type of scenario arises. Milan needs to be careful.

Ze Germans have lost on all of their previous 5 occasions to Italia. That is one more thing that goes against Milan as this losing streak will not continue forever. I am not trying to demoralize our fans but there are one too many things against Milan in this tie that have a lot to do with patterns and build-up to the game rather than pure football or form. It worries me.

Magath is bullish yet again. Seems like he didn't learn from the first leg and he thinks that Bayern will win surely. Getting a ECC winner against Italy's second best side doesn't necessarily mean that a footballer cum coach knows his football in the coaching arena. He made the mistake of comparing Milan to Juve in the first leg and paid a price. He has made a mistake again IMO but time will tell whether this arrogance breeds from confidence or stupidity.

==============
---> B A Y E R N <---
==============

Bayern started off well at home but they lacked the final ball and the threat in front of goal. They were good at making Milan suffer and run around but there wasn't any end-product to Bayern's game. Apart from that beauty from Ballack which couldn't be saved, Makaay came the closest when his shot was blocked and the other one went wide. Milan started to feel comfortable after an uneasy period and then started to boss the game and even came close to winning the game against odds.

Bayern know that they are not all out as yet. 2 goals puts them firmly in the driving seat and they are quite capable of scoring those 2 goals. Even if they score 1, they can put pressure on Milan. There is only one viable solution for Milan as this is not a Nesta-Maldini superb defence partnership era. Our defence is doing good but it cannot be relied on like the Nesta-Maldini duo. You leave nothing to chance in such a game. You go for the kill because the risk is too much.

Bayern also know that Gattuso is unavailable and the hustling will be less this time around from him. They will try to utilize Ze Roberto a lot more and hope that Stam has a weak game to send in those crosses and make use of the space from that side. Magath will surely want his strikers to have a good night out as it is imperative to make the best of scoring chances in away games. Pizarro was too far from the striking range in the first leg while Makaay had an off-night.

Probable Starting Line-Up(s)
=======================

---------------
---> Milan <---
---------------

Formation: 4-4-2 flat

---------------------------- Dida ----------------------------------

-- Stam ------------ Nesta ------ Kaladze -------------- Serginho --

--- Kaka ------------ Vogel ------ Pirlo ----------------- Seedorf ---

-----------------Shevchenko ---- Inzaghi --------------------------

---------------------------
--- Ancelotti [M I L A N] ---
---------------------------

1. The good news is that Dida has recovered and is fit enough to start this game. He is better than Kalac so it is good news for Milan. A strong performance from him is still required.

2. Gattuso misses this game due to his own mistake and he will never learn in that respect. It is a lost cause to hope that he will learn from his mistakes because he is too much of a dimwit to be taught things beyond his learning capability. His emotion will always have the better of him. Vogel needs to step in as Ambrosini is not fit enough to start. This is a huge chance for Vogel to step-up and put the brakes on one Michael Ballack.

3. Personally speaking I would not start Inzaghi in this game as he is coming off the back of a brace at the weekend and the goals can become hard after such a game but his form demands that he starts. I think he would've been a very handy sub as this game can stretch to extra-time. Gilardino's movement is still fine and I would've played him but Carlo knows better. I think that Pippo could find it tough to score tonight but he has earned a start so he has to be given the chance to score.

4. Deisler will probably start tonight. Magath will need creativity and Scholl will be the sub if need be. Magath knows that he has to push for the result as a 0-0 takes Milan through so the initiative has to come from him. Therefore, one can expect guys like da supa talent and Scholl to have playing time tonight.

------------------
---> Bayern <---
------------------

Formation: 4-4-2 diamond

---------------------------- Kahn ------------------------------

-- Sagnol ----------- Lucio --------- Ismael ------------- Lahm --

--------------------------- Demichelis -----------------------------

------- Deisler --------------------------------- Ze Roberto --------

----------------------------- Ballack -------------------------------

----------------- Pizarro ------------- Makaay ----------------------

------------------------------
--- Magath ---
------------------------------

1. Even though Hasan Salihamidzic had a good game in the first leg but he still lacked that edge. That penetrative move or that bit of skill that can do the trick. Deisler possesses that ability and a good curler of a free-kick to accompany it if need be. He may very well get the nod.

2. Makaay needs to step up for Bayern and he knows it. He had a poor game and tonight Bayern will be hoping for a goal or two from the brilliant marksman. He is a cool finisher so if he gets the delivery he could well be on the scoresheet tonight.

3. Bayern don't like playing Milan and they don't like playing Milan in the San Siro. That credit goes to the team but also the rossoneri tifosi who support the team and make it harder for the visitors. Bayern will be hoping to reverse that trend and silence the full house as they have the ability to defeat Milan. Going by Magath's comments, I don't think he has paid attention to this aspect at all.

4. Demichelis had a good game to keep Kaka in check and he will try to keep him quiet. Magath identified Shevchenko as the Milan man to look at. Either he is smart or he has not done his homework correctly. I think that the key tonight for his team will be to stop Pirlo and Kaka. Pirlo for making the team click and Kaka for the finishing. The likeliest scorer for Milan is Kaka tonight. The Prodigy of world football. That's his name. :)

KEY BATTLES
==========

1. Kaka Vs. Demichelis

2. Shevchenko Vs. Lucio

3. Pirlo Vs. Deisler

4. Vogel Vs. Ballack

5. Nesta Vs. Makaay

KEY MEN
=======

Pirlo

Been a while since Pirlo had a massive UCL game. When he plays well, Milan do well and in tonight's game he is the key for orchestrating Milan's qualification to the QF. If he is on song then Bayern will find it really difficult to counter a Milan side being commandeered by Pirlo. Set-pieces also help in such games and Pirlo has a fantastic free-kick now. If Pirlo gets subbed due to bad form then we are having a rough night which will get rougher.

Makaay

The Phantom is a deadly striker and on his day can wreak havoc. He can score away from home and that is endorsed by the fact that he is playing at Bayern; a team he destroyed single-handedly in the Olimpiastadion in 2002-3. Makaay has to step-up and take centre-stage for Bayern as Ballack will be closely guarded.

[B]PREDICTION

Wow! What a tough cookie to predict. I was quite double-minded a fortnight ago and took my time to predict that one. This one has a lot of other factors to account for. There is a law of averages going against Milan while the form is in Milan's favour. Milan's last UCL home game was a good one against the German side Schalke. I always felt that when this draw was made that Milan needed 2 away goals to be on the safe side in this tie. That didn't happen but who are we kidding? It could've been much worse than a 1-1 so the team did really well to get to this point with a fighting chance to qualify for the QF.

I would've had a devilish smile on my face if Milan was in Bayern's position. Thinking about it hard gives me the impression that Bayern may not win in the San Siro unless Milan self-destructs in dramatic fashion which is a possibility albeit a rarity. Bayern can however go through on penalties if it is 1-1 or they can go through on 2-2. Their best chance is the 2-2 to qualify. The situation and build-up has tilted the tie in Bayern's favour slightly but it is not that bad as Ancelotti's side plays well against the odds.

The referee needs to have a clean game. I hope he is sharp enough, fair enough and alert enough to make it a clean game and fair game because it is a shame if the referee starts making a hash of things.

A night of drama awaits us. Keep believing till the end. :stress: Only the UCL ... only the UCL can do this. :shades:

--->>> I don't know the scoreline ... I think Milan will crawl to the finishing line in a dramatic game full of emotions for both sides. The fans led by the Curva Sud will help for that decisive final push.

Schweinsteiger took a powerful free kick, Dida got the ball but "pushed" into the feet of the oncoming Ismael and he scored from 3-4m. lack of concentration in defence but Dida also has a lot of blame for this one, although, to be fair to him it was a swirving and powerful ball.
We have to keep in mind that this is a German team we are playing for and the guys should never put their guard down even if we are 3-4 goals up.

zlatanov

so with the score 201, it if ended like this would they go to pk's
No, PKs are impossible at this point - only a 1-1 result would have lead to PKs. Right now, with 2-1, we are going through but Bayern need just a single goal to go through in stead of us - any high-scoring draw, 2-2, 3-3, etc. puts them through.
The pitch is in pretty good condition - no water "ponds", no mud.

Dida just made a great save after a tricky free kick by Bayern didn't touch anyone but flew right into the goal after missing a couple of heads.

K77SH C
08-03-2006, 15:30
meaning we have 1 away goal.
If the score today finishes 2-2 then Bayern have 2 away goals.

Basically we have to win, where as Bayern can go through with a draw.

Pablo I
08-03-2006, 15:35
2-1 is not equivalent to 0-0.

If Bayern score at 0-0, making it 0-1, we need two goals to go through.

If they score at 2-1, making it 2-2, we only need one goal to go through.

Regardless, they are going to get confidence from that goal, I just hope we don't rue the missed penalty. Why didn't Pirlo take it??

At the break Milan have the advantage, 3-2 overall and 2-1 on the night, thanks to goals from Inzaghi and Shevchenko, however a missed penalty from the Ukrainian could prove decisive after Ismaël pulled a goal back for Bayern which leaves them just one away from a place in the last-eight.

Of course it's not equivalent but I think he was speaking in general terms and if that were the case, he was right - 2-1 is more or less a 0-0.
It's a good thing that the break came in as Bayern were starting to build more and more dangerous attacks as their confidence sky-rocketed after that goal, while we looked a bit shocked.
Liverpool now needs 3 clean goals to go through as benfica scored an away goal. Lyon also looks to have booked their place in the 1/4 finals with a 2-0 lead over PSV - the Dutch now need 3 clear goals to make it through.

Nothing guarantees us that if Sheva scored that PK, he would have scored again a couple of minutes later. Actually, chances are we would have went back, as we did at 2-0, and wouldn't have scored that second goal by Sheva. Let's not live in the past and feel sorry for things we can't change anyway, we have to look ahead and stay concentrated and determined throughout the whole second half no matter what the result is.

Paolo Guererro comes in for Roy Makkay at the start of the second half. Makkay going out is not bad news for us but Guererro is a very tricky player, a very sneaky one, and we have to be extra careful at the back.

Yeah, but I would have said Real are a good team to play. I just think both side wouldnt be able to stop us scoring while we could limit them to 1 goal.
I really dont want to play Lyon though, they are reminding me of the young Ajax team of the 90's. They are consistantly destroying everything in their path and for me are the favourites.

I honestly don't see why we should be scared of any team. Actually, I would love to play a favourite right now as Milan is going through a very positive moment and we don't know what things will be like a month or two from now. Plus, if Barca is so strong that some people are scared of them, that means that, should we make it through, in one of the later stages we will have to play them anyway. What's the dif whether they will kick our ass in the 1/4 or the 1/2-finals? And if they don't make it that far, well then I guess they weren't so scary after all, right? Obviously Pippo played excellent. He is having the best spell in a very long time. I can't wait to see the replay of this game.
Personally the team I want to draw least is Lyon. They destroyed PSV, and I think if we underrate them they will do the same to us. We have to take them as seriously as Barca, if we do draw them. But then again, any team can do that much damage. But if we retain our current form, I think we are able to advance into the semis and beyond.

we have to keep Vogel in. We were far more solid because we kept our shape, Gattuso really hasn't the foggiest idea about shape, he just runs to where the ball is. OK, we lose someone willing to track back and take out players, but we didn't need to do that this game because our shape was just perfect. Bayern in my opinion through it away brining on Ze Roberto, he's class, but after that they were all over the place.

Big, big, BIG, shout outs to Inzaghi for just always finding the goal, stam for attacking and defending hard (maybe another reason why Gattuso was not missed) sheva and kaka for being class and man of the match (in my opinion) Serginho for just rendering bayerns entire right side limp by constantly charging at the them with pace and skill down the left.

http://sport.gazeta.ru/sport/2006/03/a_558855.shtml (in russian)

the commentator said that "after Andrey missed the PK, madly excited Khan started to shout something right into Sheva's ear. Khan has to be sorry he did that now, Sheva probably got pissed and scored right away with a header."

Did someone see this Khan's shouting? Is this true or made up?
Thanks,

That's what I read on channel4 about the incident:

Shevchenko missed a penalty in the first half and goalkeeper Kahn was seen shouting taunts in his ear, but the Ukrainian responded with a goal just over a minute later.
“I didn’t pay attention to what he said, but it wasn’t a nice thing to do for a German legend,” said the hitman. “We gave all our answers on the pitch, so Kahn can say all he likes, but he lost 4-1".

OK, now that I'm not as excited and have settled down from my extreme happiness, I haves some points to make:
Obviously Pippo played excellent. He is having the best spell in a very long time. I can't wait to see the replay of this game.
Personally the team I want to draw least is Lyon. They destroyed PSV, and I think if we underrate them they will do the same to us. We have to take them as seriously as Barca, if we do draw them. But then again, any team can do that much damage. But if we retain our current form, I think we are able to advance into the semis and beyond.

PSV were a man down. I want Lyon before Juve, Barca or Inter, I don't think they are as scarey as everyone makes out. I don't want to face italian opposition at all, although in truth we have a very good record against them. Arsenal can be tricky but I'd be ok with them, without viera they can't boss the midfield. Obviously Benfica or Villareal are the ideal draws, but given our past we might be better avoiding them.

Yeah, I saw it and it's true - kahn was madly exuberrant after the miss and went right to Sheva and started shouting at him from pretty close range. Sheva just turned away though and didn't respond ... well, not with words but with a goal a minute later :grinser:

I think Milan played an excellent game, but it started from before the teams even went into the dressing room. It started when Carlo picked his 11. I credit Carlo Ancelotti big time for his team selection...its not rocket science to pick this Milan starting 11...or is it? Well whatever, he got it spot on.

Serghino was devastating, both in defense (where he made almost no mistakes...at least none that I remember) and even moreso in attack. Pin point cross for the first goal to Pippo, who read it from back in Milanello...

Seedorf started shaky, but got into the game well...should have scored, or set up..(Kaka?) someone for the 5th, but took it himself, but he was in front of the goal, and it was his craft that set up his shot..so I dont blame him. Good work tackling back, and giving up annoying fouls to Bayern, usually in their own half.

Though we definately played as a team today, from start to finish (except when Sheva let Ishmael run past him to tap in their only goal on the night) I must single out Kaladze for an excellent, unpreturbed, almost error free game. Nesta was his usual brilliant self, while Stam played well at RB, sending over a delicious cross for Sheva´s goal.

Dida was unlucky that the young German prodigy hit his shot so hard that it almost made an "S" curve in the air, but foolish not to fist the ball away...but had some excellent saves on the night, which prevented an important second away goal.

Sheva was excellent, and Pippo razor sharp. Magath got it wrong, and failed to single out Pirlo, who made a mess of the Bayern back 4, pulling all the strings for Milan.

Vogel..wow! This is the man who surely will take Gattuso´s place more often..a capable deputy, if not a starter after this display. Hard tackles, and precise passing, and his one missplaced pass on the night is much better return on my investment than the 4 or 5 that Rino is sure to give up...(but this is a celebratory post, and I wont hit at Rino anymore).

Kaka had a super game, capped off by his thunderstrike from just inside the 18...fabulous shot, that Kahn the Caveman could only put a hand to, but couldnt stop.

Ancelotti also got it right with his subs, bringing on Ambrosini in a show of confidence in the Italian, which warmed my heart...and Max could have scored, but unselfishly tried to "T" it up for Gila to break his UCL duck, but headed it agonizingly behind the young forward...and the chance went begging.

This performance will send shockwaves through the rest of Europe, and I am sure they will be felt in Turin as well.

On the other results: Liverpool are deservedly out, though I wanted to have the pleasure of seeing Milan do those honours.

Real´s soon to be out coach wilted under board pressure (IMO) and fielded an unfit Raul from the start, a Zidane who was out run by the young Arsenal midfield in the first leg, and los galacticos managed only one shot on goal for the first half. Cassano clearly should have started, but...hey, I wouldnt mind Arsenal in the next leg. We have the class and strength to overwhelm them...

PSV are out after a thrashing from Lyon, who along with Barca, I prefer to meet further down in the competition.

FORZA MIIIIIIIIIIIILAN...now bring on the zebras!

Classy remark by our cool boy!
Noone likes of course when he misses, but he stays calm, mentally too.
I remember Andrey said after the final game with Liverpool about last 2 mis-haps in the regulation time: "You score some and you miss some, this is a game of football." I could not believe it, I thought he became a slacker.
Boy was I wrong! I think he just got more mature and tougher mentally.
Hopefully, with his super-aerobic body he can perform well for 5-6 or more years. That would be something. Eusebio record in CL might be in danger then.

Best teams to meet in the next round would be Juve or Arsenal IMO. Two teams we will do well against.

I had my serginho shirt on this evening, the Vodoo worked ;)

Our best performance of the season so far! we played awesome, Serginho, Kaka, Stam, Inzaghi, Kaladze were all 10/10 performances. I was so glad when Sheva got his goal after Caveman shouted insults down his ear after his penalty miss. Seedorf had an excellent second half and should of capped it with a goal: he also did an awesome trick on sagnol(i think) which was just class. FORZA MILAN!!

The teams we need to avoid on friday now are Lyon, Barca and Juve just for now, hopefully we will get either benfica or villarreal but any one will be tough.

Did anyone see Fred's goal and celebration. Dont know which one was better :D

Lyon are to be feared even more than Barca as far as Im concerened though Juninhio is suspended. They are a fast, physically strong, have some skillful players, can score a silly amount of goals and are mean in defence with clean sheet after clean sheet. The likes of Barca, Juve and even Milan cant boast this. If we play them its got to be in the final.

Anyway, if we can get a fresh Maldini and Cafu back soon then we will be looking strong.

I don't care who we draw for next round. Just hope it's not Juve or Inter 'cause I am kind of tired of watching Milan play these two so, for the sake of variaty would love to get barca or Arsenal or Lyon. Wouldn't mind Benfica or Villarreal either.
Same goes for Lyon or any other CL title candidate.

Couldnt agree with you more. I 'd rather us play a favourite right now when we are in a such wonderful form and having such a great momentum coming off a 4-1 thrashing of Bayern.

Back to the Bayern game, i'd like to single out Kaladze for special praises. He was at best shaky at the begining of the season when played in the left back position. Tonight he even had a better game than Nesta did (nesta made a mistake that earned him the yellow card and I spotted none from Kala). Kala was always solid, composed, collected and even physical when it needed him to be. BTW, no comments on why Kala got the captain armband after Sheva was subbed??

My special praises also go to Stam (a maverlous game with surging runs down the right flank.It was like watching Cafu tonight), Serginho -argubably man of the match, Seedorf (i hope he plays like this every match!!) and Inzaghi.

There was no 'hot' discussion between Sheva and Pippo because they all hugged each other at the end.

I just got this from goal.com..and man..I like it very much..!!

"...Unlike compatriots Juventus on Tuesday night, this Milan needed no luck to emphatically exert their right to a quarter-final spot. Unlike their own countrymen Werder Bremen on the same night, Bayern can hardly feel aggrieved at such a definitive hammering. If Tuesday night was a travesty, tonight was no contest".

Actually, I had my #7 blue-n-yellow jersey on. I played some football on a pitch. You may say it did work, I say "neah", since I put my Sheva's uniform
after he had already scored. Still... he assisted to Kaka, and I could not find Kakas on my pitch.

Anyone else had Pipo's jersey on?

Yeah i saw the goal it was really a masterpiece, after doing the Ronaldinho trick Fred hit a powerfull shot in the right angle, awesome and the celebration was really funny.

Great game from Milan the best this season i'm so happy we crashed Bayern 4:1 if we could repeat this game on sunday it would become really interesting in Seria A

FORZA MILAN :sagrin:

Great victory fully deserved for 90 min the only hope Bayern found was the mistake by Dida otherwise they would have been in total shock for 90mins...

Great courage, fighting spirit, and faith in each other gave us the victory...

This is what we have lacked all year long the fighting spirit...if we have it we can beat anyone...

This game reminded me that Milan, that I started supporting 4 years ago..Milan that make me love football. I was waiting for this performance for such a long time!!!! Here it comes..spoiled a little bit by Sheva's penalty (he got his reputation back in a few minutes), but still so so so GREAT!!! Does that mean that Milan is out of unlucky, difficult time? Hope so!!! And I love the line up - Sheva and Inzaghi...

Serginho in this game was my hero despite Pipo scoring two and also Stam who gave Sheva the chance to score...
Serginho is playing like as if he is still 24 and not 34...I admire his sacrifice who runs all game long and even in 88th min he was still making runs and crosses as if the game was 2-1...
Stam on the other side the same...what I admire the most about him is dedication...even though he knows that after this season he will leave Milan, he still plats hard and gives 100%...most players who know that they will leave they never give 100% for the team that they willremain for just few more months.

I'm confident with this team in Champions League because they fight more then they do in Seria A...and in CH they are totally a different team...If we can play like this agressively, high spirit, never afradi I think we will go to the final...nothing can stop the Milan we saw today...

Whoever will be our next opponent we will take them as just another team as Bayern was..not stronger...not weaker...just a team that Milan can beat if they play like they did today!

WOW guys.. i was shouting so loud in the bar where i saw this game.. i am so happy we played a really good game.. kaka is just fabolous in big games like this when he's given space.. sheva great, but even better PIPPO .. this man deserves to be a symbol of milan cuz he really plays with ALOT of heart and he does it with full effect.. what a great champion!!

another positive thing today is that ancelotti finally listened to all the fans and the papers that were asking for pippo to start ahead of gila.. i applaud him for that choice.. pippo got 2 goals and a penalty.. he played REALLY well.. Pippo seems to love playing against Oliver Kahn! :)

Serginho and Stam were MARVELLOUS in attacking today, all our first 3 goals were assisted by them... and they were even better in defence, and so was Nesta and Kaladze..

True dida made a small mistake with their goal, but guys, he made 3 BRILLIANT saves after it.. i believe after those saves, he really is in top form and is ready for Juve..

Pirlo played better than usuual, he won alot of free kicks and everything.. but could have done better

my only critic for today is Seedorf's performance in the first half.. he played the first 5 minutes great, but slowly faded from the game.. but when ambro came, Seedorf had alot of fun playing around with them.. so did Kaka

and i also have to praise VOGEL who is a GREAT player and is so USEFUL for milan.. he is playing really well and can really fit into the milan squad.. i hope milan do not sell him to man unitd over the summer (unless we're getting diarra)..one critic of vogel, was his tackle on the bayern player that got him a yellow card, that was a very bad tackle and i hope he does not do it again

when pippo subbed off, he was very angry.. he walked away from ancelotti when he tried to talk to him.. then when sheva came out.. ancelotti told him to talk to pippo, and sheva went and talked to pippo, and i guessed he was telling him that it was ok to be subbed off and all that crap.. but it wasnt an arguement at all, they were just talking normally..

and finally, nice to have Ambro back!! now we await Maldini and Cafu with open warms, and go to Turin to kick some juve ass!!! I believe we will thrash them again :)

the draw is this friday guys.. I just hope we dont play another Euroderby, not because we will lose, but because of the pressure, and i also would not like to play juve, also because i dont want to play any italian team.. we should play a european team.. im hoping for lyon or arsenal.. these r games that we will not lose our heads in.. i hope we dont get villareal or benfica, because those games for us are more dangerous than the others
