View Full Version : Rumours: Buffon to Milan

It is said by some italian market experts that Milan is preparing the boom of the year: leave abbiati at Juve + 30 millions for Gianluigi Buffon.
This is the scenario: Giraudo, Juve's General Manager, is about to leave Juventus for the end of his contract, which hasn't already renewed. Giraudo may join Milan board, because as the last days comments between the managers of the two clubs, the relationships with Galliani are quite good.
He got Juventus (13 years ago) with 50 millions of debts, and he would leave a side which won 14th titles with a big positive balance.
But this would just happen with a sacrifice of a big player, and according to the Juve performances with Abbiati it is said that they may think the most sacrificeable (?) player would be Buffon, cause they had their best defensive performances with Abbiati as goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, despite the support for Dida, many doubts about his performances are arising in Via Turati, because, despite the fact that he makes good saves, his performances seem not as reliable as in the past and the defenders feel unconfident.
True or not, we'll see in the next few months.I just report a rumour that could interest you.

wow!, buffon behind nesta! thats wonderfull!, I agree about Dida, he is not so solid as he used to,
also team management skills of giraudo is desirable , I htink Juve is a perfect example of Team management

for the correctness it's not the first time i hear that juve is thinking about sacrificing Buffon among all their stars. They thought about it after the reliable performances of Abbiati, and their record of stars sold is encouraging

Well, to tell you the truth I am not so enthusiastic about such a transfer, provided that we would have to pay an amount as high as the one mentioned - Abbiati + 30 mil euros. That's just insane IMO. I would have been happy to hear this news 3-4 years ago but now Buffon is what 28. By the time he gets here he would be closing on on 29.
I know for a GK that's not much of a retirement age but still thrashing 30+ mils for a player we would be able to use for 3-4 more years before he starts thinking of retirement, spells a "mistake" for me, as with this type of money we could fix our defense for the next 7-8 years with players like Chivu, Barzagli, Alex, etc. ... and we will still have left some to invest in new midfielders, as well.
Plus, latest news is that Milan may use Abbiatti for a swap with Roma for Chivu, and maybe some money will be involved too.
I know that a GK position is probably the most important in a team but it's not like we are short of other great options - we still have Dida, and there are some young and very talated players out there too (Frey, Amelia), and also we have Abbiatti, who, if the above is any true, Juve seem to prefer over Buffon. So, why should we give them Christian + a sum as high as 30 mil for Buffon ... just doesn't make sense to me.
As for Dida not being as solid as before, well, buffon isn't having a miraculous year either given that Juve come to the point of considering getting Abbiatti over him and cashing in on Buffon.
In the end if the day, I do doubt that the above is anything more than just a rumour.
hope this remains just a roumor, lol 30 mil +abbiati? wtf? wee need 2 defenders and 2 mildfielders, not a goal keaper, hope dida stays whit us i have big faith in him,no buffon here plz .
buffon is a great goalkeeper and his performances this season are simply due to the shoulder injury he had that kept him out throughout most of the season, not that abbiatti is better. juve would not sell buffon, no way! besides dida on his day is the best and most reliable GK in the world, why not use those 30 million to set up a defence thats not shaky so he can regain his old form... when our defence geled together, i can recall only 1 mistake, the one vs bayern, its the defence that needs replacements, not the goalkeeper.

Buffon? Hmm interesting news indeed!! But I agree with some comments in this thread, the goalkeeper post is not an urgent. Beside, I am in major doubt Juve would sell Buffon to one of their rival, they better sell him to Barca or MU.
I prefer having the Juve triade join Milan board next season, they will make a great positive impact for Milan management next season.
What happened to the Moggi to Milan thread :)
If Juve sell Buffon to Milan they will just go and sign a goalkeeper almost as good and 2 or 3 more world class players. They did the same when they sold Zidane remember.
I wouldnt sign him, especially with Frey available.

I will say to everyone one thing: The summer will have crazy transfers especially after World Cups lots of transfers happend even those that seem impossible or strange...so for Milan hopefully we get everyone that is in our list or necessary to make us a better team!

Buffon is the best, guys,no shame admittting it, everyone admits it, all the keepers trainers confirm that.Do you remember his debut in 1996 , Parma- Milan? This guy was simply unbelievable at 17 y o, he got EVERYTHING.
I like and esp in the past liked Dida, but if there's a chance to sign Buffon, i wouldn't think about it more than a couple of seconds.
i'm a bit worried by Dida, he made several howlers during this season, (milan-samp, schalke -milan, inter-milan, milan-parma et cetera..) and i hope this dodgyness (?) won't cost us a title.
Last year's Liverpool second goal was Dida's fault, even the first could be addressed at him (he just look the ball thinking it would go out). I mean, if we want to achieve the best we must aim the best. I hope he recovers his old confidence, THIS DIDA, doesn't convince me, a keeper must be balanced, not allowing a stupid goal then making a miracle.

well about the sum I agree its huge but buffons age is not an impediment he can well play next 5 yeras, and his bad performance this year is because he had injury,

well about the sum I agree its huge but buffons age is not an impediment he can well play next 5 yeras, and his bad performance this year is because he had injury,
once a player is over 30, no one can say for how long his top form is gonna continue - could another 5-6 years, could 1-2 years and then down the hill. Paying such a huge amount - close to 40 mil - makes sense only for a very, very talented player, a great one in fact, who is 23-24 yo mostly becuase that would guarantee you a lot of years of good service. In Buffon's case, that's no longer true IMO. As I said, I would have been thrilled to hear this news 3-4 years ago but now, I think it's a bit too late for making senseless investments.
As for what his non-stellar form is due to, true he got sidelined for some time but he did have more than enough time - over a month to fully prep his return to the field. And he didn't have to rush anything as Abiatti was doing great at the time. My point, however, was that if Juve see Abiatti as a better option than Buffon, why should we give them that "better option" in return for Buffon and not only that but pay up another 30 mil on top of it.
Given the situation we are in - so many players are leaving or are about to leave - we could make much betetr use of this money by investing it in proper places. Plus we still have great options for a GK, I mean it's not as if getting Buffon is our only choice to have a great GK - we can keep Dida (by solidifying the D, he should soon be back to his best), get Abiatti, or simply go for a young talent like Frey or Amelia. All these possibilities leave us with a great GK between the posts and lots of money in the pockets too.

That is exactly why Juventus won't sell Buffon.
The reason Parma sold Buffon, well, Parma was having a difficult situation on their financial ability so they had to sell their stars.
Do you think Juventus has the same situation as Parma several years ago when they sold Buffon?
At this situation, Do you see the reason AC Milan put Shevchenko on their transfer list? even if Chelsea offer some cash and Crespo, surely AC Milan won't sell one of their best striker in the world.
The same condition applied for Buffon case
No way Juve will sell Buffon, come on people! We should go for Girauldo or Moggi....there's where the scudettos are.

What you said makes sense from the AC Milan point of view but not Juve's. Juve are widely known to cash in on their best players while they are still in their prime with the only exception being Del Piero.
IMO, now is the perfect time for Juve to sell Buffon to a cash-splashing team like Real M (with Cassilias going either to ManU or maybe even Juve), ManU, Chelski, or Barca (of all these teams, they are the one in immediate need of a good GK). If Juve are gonna cash in on Buffon, my guess would be it would happen either this summer or next summer at the latest as Buffon is still in his prime years for a GK - he aint a spring chicken but aint old too - and they can sell him for a small fortune to a non-budget-conscious club like those above.

Well. after I read your post I must admit I forget one person, Zidane!!
He is the best midfielder when Juve sold him to Madrid, but Juve still sold him.
I must admit I forget the truth about Juve, the best club in this world when it concern about transfer. They know when to sell and when to sign.
So now is probably the best time for Juve to sell Buffon if only they find his replacement in the near future ( Frey or Abbiati? )
Thanks for remind me.
Juve sold Zidane and got Buffon+Thuram+Nedved with the money. Now if they sell Buffon to us for 30 Million+Abbiatti, then they will still have a classy keeper and plus they can get 25 years old Gerrard and some world class defender with our money.
If that's the case, then i will say NO to Buffon, allthough he is by far the best goalkeeper in the world !
The same thing happened with Roberto Baggio if i'm not wrong. They sold him to us when he was 28 and with the money they made fantastic team ( they bought Deschamps,Jugovic and few others) that won the CL right after Baggio left them.
Yes, I would rather spend 30mil for Gerrard. We already have Dida and Abiatti, no need for new goalkepers yet. We have other problems.
Why would we give 30 mil for Buffon that's nonsense, when with that money we could reinforce the defense and even buy one midfielder, we have Dida and Abbiati they are great and if this happens it would be the worst transfer for Milan ever

i dont think it would be the worst, but it would be bad... 30 mil! he is pretty old! like 30
i dont think it would be the worst, but it would be bad... 30 mil! he is pretty old! like 30 No, he's 28, and 28-32 are the best years for a keeper.
Milan will definitely get very very much with Buffon, but i think we can get even more with those 30 million. Not to mention that the money will go in Juventus and they will certanly use them for top class reinforcement. They always did !
I love the idea about Buffon in Milan, but i'd hate Juve to get Gerrard and few others with these money.
I'd say : let him stay in Juve, but lets use the money to get 3 new players !

Buffon to Milan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW this news sounds awesome I would love to have him at Milan at any price. His arrival will make one thing for sure Milan will never conced a goal. I do not know why many people think that at the age of 28 he is to old. I think he has a good 5 or 6 years of football left in him. I hope this transfer just happens.

Ok, Buffon is a great goalkeeper who I would love to see playing for Milan. But right now there are better ways to spend our money as we are more in need of strengthening other areas. I'm fine with Dida or even Abbiati if he returns.

alot of papers and websites are reporting Milan are going to go for Buffon. My italian isnt great, but i think it says something like Dida isnt penning a extension to his contract, Milan are considering giving Abbiati and cash to Juve in exchange for Buffon..... dont mind the idea of him playing, didnt his granddad play for Milan?

I wouldn't mind, who would in fact, seeing Buffon come to Milan but only as long as the money we pay Juve isn't some excessive amount of the order of ~20 mil and above.
Also, I am a bit worried about that injured shoulder of his. I am not sure if he wasn't given a proper rest and his return was rushed by the Juve medical staff, but that injury reaccured just recently and even his appearance in the WC is in doubt ... at least that's the last news I remember reading on that.

Such good news this i'd love buffon to come and join us let them have Abbiati + say 12mil: with Gallas and Buffon coming in it would make our defence much stronger.
id rather see come come once dida leaves, dida is still the worlds best keeper and he proved hes not done like everyone said against barca...
just needs his confidence back
A ridiculous rumour with no basis. Abbiati has been much better than Buffon this season, should injury or no shoulder injury Buffon hasn't been impressive for almost 3 years now.
To spent some big money and lose abiatti for injured Buffon, and having Dida at the same time is just stupid. It would be the most idiotic move I've ever seen. But then again, we are signing Favalli, so Galliani cant surprise me anymore....

buffon's signing will be stupid because dida is returning to form ( hopefully) and also we've got kalac and fiori. then abbiati is coming back. will be too much of salaries! I wudn't mind if we sell kalac to draw some big money.

Who would want to buy a second keeper like kalac for 'big money'? it's certan that or abbiati or Dida will leave.
Christian is fed up waiting for a chance in Milan and Dida isn't going to accept a status as second keeper (who could possibly blame him).
If Buffon comes, probably both of them will leave.
Dida is one of the best goalies in the world on his line, I've read in an interview with Meerseman that test prove that his reflexes and speed to dive are extrordinary. like Larssons header against barca.
Dida's problem IMHO is that he sometimes has problems when he has to leave his line, for example with high balls or with sharp angles.
If he keeper 'leaves' his goal on a corner or a cross he must always get the ball, I frequently stop breathing when I see him leave his line but misses the ball. I can't eactly pinpoint a certain game but it happens frequently fortunately it doesn't always result in a goal. As for sharp angle's giuly's goal wasn't exactly his fault but I think Dida could have prevented it if he made the angle even sharper he should have narrowed the angle even more, I think personnaly think he didn't expect a shot but a cross or something...
of course it's easy to explain afterwards and who can tell wether another keeper could have stopped that ball...

Rahul, only a club manager who has absolutely no clue of football management and business altogether would pay even 1-2 mil for Kalac. The guy is way over 30 (33-34, I think), a reserve keeper for Milan, who would most probably be let go for free at the end of the season, so why on earth would someone pay 4-5 mil for him?
I think the best we could do is let Kalac go, as it would most probably happen, and free space for Amelia from Livorno, who we could prep to take it from Dida in a year or so from now.

If Dida stays at Milan, Abiatti's sale is imminent, IMO. He is like 29 already and to loan him out is pointless - you loan out a 22-23 yo whose best is yet to come - so, now is the moment to cash in on Christian, who won't be willing to sit on Milan's bench but would rather be a 1st choice GK somewhere else.
Roma seem to be very keen on him as they've had some GK issues with Doni. We might use that and use Abiatti given that Roma have some pretty interesting players - Mancini, Chivu, De Rossi.
As for Kalac, should we get Amelia or some other young and promissing keeper, he would be just released, I suspect.

I don't think it's a ridiculous rumour with no basis. I posted this rumour 2 months ago and if it wasn't for the fact i've deserved a bit of credibility in the last years about market matters (starting from the STAM WILL BE ROSSONERO, down in 2003 ) people was about to laugh at me.
I tell you that this news is far from being unreal. It's not very probable, but we have some facts:
- Dida hasn't renewed yet, despite the board offered a new contract sev times
- Buffon doesn't stand Capello, while he has always had great relations with Ancelotti in the past years
-W Vecchi our keepers coach was his first coach at Parma (if i remember well) and he would like to find his old friends at Milan. i point out that the two are still in contact and the Buffon availability was sent through W Vecchi
- He hasn't won a EU competition at Juve
Dida is a quality keeper, but he's too dodgy. He is great when it comes on instinctive saves, but when he has to be rational and technical, he shows his poor technique. A great keeper is not the keeper that makes a miracle and then allows an easy chance in. The great keeper is the solid and reliable one in every situation.
I tell you more: if it wasn't for many Dida's mistakes (Milan- Samp on Gasbarroni, Inter-Milan and many more) we would be Italian champions. I like the players but the jersey comes first and if keeping Dida with us means we won't be Italian champions for a few points, then i'd take Buffon to Milan with my own car and welcome him with open arms.

well, I would hardly call this "news" as this is the usual talk you will hear from an agent, the player himself, or a Juve representative in such cases. The above words in no way mean that Buffon won't leave Juve. I am not saying he definitely will, but just that you can't expect hs agent to come out and tell it all as it is, of course he is gonna deny any possible move ... and then a day later you see Buffon with a Real M jersey on and claiming that playing for them was his childhood dream.

Why people worries about moneys? As long as they ain't been taken from your pockets...
Btw i think a player like Buffon is a big part of a future winning era. I think if we ever have the chance to sign him, we'll do. A rather young keeper (28) with 10 years ahead (we all know keepers play until 37-38, just look at Peruzzi's form) who s technically the absolute best.
If you don't think Juve will ever sell him, i point out that Juve sell ALL his players, obviously for a convenient amount of moneys. they sold Zidane, the best player in the world, Inzaghi, Vieri.. The would sell Buffon, but for a sum around 30-35 Mill + Abbiati
If Silvio decides that a big investiment like this can bring success and moneys in years to come (starting from bigger sponsorship, tv rights, moneys from Uefa, tournees et cetera.. ) we'll sign him- But i won't fool anyone here. The probabilities are rather small at the moment, esp because we must invest in other roles .
But the keeper can become a problem: just count the amount of points we lost due to Dida's howlers. We would be Italian champions right now...

Gio, i don't care at all about the money we spent on players but in this case i do, because we know where these money will go and we know what can Juve do with all those money !
Yes, Juve always sells their best players. They sold Baggio to us and then they both 3-4 world class players which brought them the CL trophy. They sold Zidane for a record prize and with those money they bought Nedved+Buffon+Thuram and they won 3 Scudetto's in 4 years with these players, and are very close to the 4th Scudetto in 5 years.
Yes, i know that it won't change anything if Real gives them the money instead of us. Even more, we'll get a classy keeper. But i wouldn't like Juve to buy Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo with our money :)

Buffon set for Milan Monday 22 May, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gigi Buffon will leave Juventus for Milan during the summer, insist reports in Italy on Monday morning.
The Italian international ‘keeper has been linked with the Rossoneri for a few months now and a transfer seems on the cards.
Although any possible Juventus demotion would lead to his sale anyway, stories suggest that he had already decided to leave before the alleged match-fixing scandal broke.
Buffon was supposedly looking for a fresh challenge, especially as whispers allege that he doesn’t share a great feeling with boss Fabio Capello.
Milan would certainly seem to be a perfect fit for the shot-stopper given their problems in between the sticks this term.
Brazilian Nelson Dida hasn’t impressed and there do seem to be problems in negotiations regarding the renewal of his contract which runs out in 2007.
Although the two parties were set to meet in an effort to find an agreement, Dida has still not put pen to paper.
It’s unclear how much Juventus would want for Buffon who they signed from Parma in 2001 for a goalkeeping record of £32m.
Antonio Mirante is expected to be handed the gloves in Turin next term after he spent this season on loan at Siena.
Juventus are also understood to have netted veteran custodian Francesco Antonioli from Sampdoria on a free transfer.
Before the scandal, i was against signing Buffon, because i didn't want Milan to give such huge amount of money to Juve.
But now, when Juve is in huge trouble, i say : Go for it. It will be sad to see Dida leaving, but that moment had to come sometime, and who'd be a better replacement for Dida if not Buffon.

Buffon is probably the best goalkeeper in the world, so I would definitely like to see him at Milan. But 30 million + Abbiati? That would probably mean that we can't afford to strengten other places where we are in desperate need of sthengthening... So I'm not sure about this... But I'm not totally against it eiter :5schal:

if juve gets relegated the players could become all free agents or get free for few millions..imagine steal them all the jewels and as a consequence they make bankruptcy
It's nice to dream about getting Buffon, Zambrotta, et al for hardly anything ... but we all know that realistically this won't happen. I mean come on, it's Juve, it'll just be swept under the carpet and forgotten about, i will be absolutely amazed if they are relegated.

i think there would be outcry if Juve werent relegated, Milan and Lazio were sent down for less in the 80s...Italian football has taken alot of flak the last couple of weeks, and if juve are not punished it would make the league look like a joke!!!

I'm sure many of their stars will leave now.
And if they get relegated it gets even better for us. I know that it will be like robbing a lying man, but i'm sure they would have done the same thing to us if we were in their position.

if we get those scudetti, I wouldn't see it as "robbing a lying man" for we would simply be getting something that should have been ours anyway. IMO those titles belong to us and suit us as the scudetto is something that goes to the best team in Italy and over the past several years that's gotta be us.
Just listen to how amazed fans around the world were every time Juve and not Milan got the title - people would wonder how come a team like Milan isn't the champ in Italy. Well, I guess now they know how that's possible.
In the end the worth of those scudetti, and for that matter the "scudetto" as an idea, is very questionable as the whole thing has been tampered with. So, I am not sure that I would be too disappointed if we get nothing back. Still, if I have to point out one team that's lost the most as a result of all these Juve-related falsifications, that's got to be Milan. In genereal, all teams (with some exceptions) should feel cheated but the one team that lost the most is Milan ... and that's one of the main reasons why I think we aren't part of this whole insanity.

']So what kind of message are you sending if Juventus isnt relegated? You are giving the green light to them (or any other team) to do so again?
completely agree with you. IMO if Juve isn't punished seriously, Italy as a football nation, and as a nation overall, will lose tons of respect all over the world. I think that this is the only reason why the prosecutors may relegate Juve, apart from that, there is just way too much money invested in them - Agnelli money, Libian money, mafia money, you name it - for us to be speaking of "punishing Juve because that's the right thing to do" or some other idealistic stuff like that.
well they robbed us several scudetti, so why not give it back in different guise? Yes, it's damn true. I'm having this argument with my Juventini friends in last 3 days. What i'm saying to them is that even if they never robbed us with the Scudetti, i can't see why we shouldn't buy their players now. What's the difference if their players go to Arsenal or Milan ? It's a bussiness world where even the father will robe his son if it will make his team stronger. And i wouldn't even say it's robbing, because their players are given the oportunity to choose their next club. I'm sure that Milan will not be the only team who'll offer money for Buffon, Zlatan, Zambrotta or Trez. So, if some of Juve players end up in Milan, then Juventini don't have the right to blame us for robbing them, but they will have to blame their players for choosing Milan.
Nobody want's to play for cheaters, and that's what Juventini will have to realise sooner or later.
But Juventino's opinion on Milan is not what worries me now. Moggi's next accusations are taking my sleep at the moment. I know that some of you here will say that Milan will get out clean from this scandal, but i'm scared that a guy like Moggi is capable of everything.

that's why I am happy that we have Silvio for president and owner ... doubt that Moggi will go after him. Right. From what I know, in Serie B clubs only can spend 70% of the budget in sallaries. And they'll have a limited budget to cope.
The only way out is to sell players. And this is a unique opportunity in world football for the other teams.

Milan-Buffon,
20 06 2006
It takes to quota the negotiation between Milan and Juventus for the passage in rossonero of Gigi Buffon on the base of 20 million more Has to you. Negotiation been born to incirca month makes, when the agent of Buffon, Silvano Martina, has received one called from the bianconero club that invited it to strive itself in order to find a square to the porter, than the Juve had entered in the order of ideas to yield. The road more easy percorribile was that one that door to the Milan, inasmuch as Christian Has to you, than the Juve has intention to redeem, could lower of much the expenditure for the buying club. And in fact the negotiation base previews Buffon to the Milan for a figure around to 20 million euro more the entire one cartellino than It has to you, than the Juve it has elect titular porter of near future. From part its the Milan could therefore once arrange for all the issue porter without svenarsi on the economic plan, considering between the other that in case of Dida agreement would come in all probability yielded in England (Manchester United) for a not inferior figure to 15 million. From part of the interested directed ones not there are neither confirmations neither refutation, also why the negotiation closely is tied to the outcome of the inquiry on "calciopoli", than after the delivery of the actions from part of Borrelli to the Federal Proxy Stefano Palaces she sees also the rossonero club in one position much delicate one.

i disagree, if you pay peanuts you get monkeys, Buffon is great.. Didas mistakes were costly, and embarrasing.
If Milan plays its books right we could sign buffon for £15 mil + abbiati, and sell Dida for £12 mil... i think that is a good deal!
zlatanov
20-06-2006, 08:42
just one problem in your plans, Graeme - how do you sell a 33-34 yo GK for 12 mil BP?
With his contract expiring next year and we being sort of forced to sell, with his rather average last season with us, and given his age, we would be lucky to get even 5 mil euros for Dida.

my fears exactly. Prices are getting closer and closer to the ridiculous levels of 6-7 years ago with the Figo and Zidane transfers.
I don't know, Abiatti's gotta be worth around 10 mil euros. That means that we would be paying Juve 30-35 mil euros if those figures are correct. And he hasn't been the same for the past year or so after that injury. I don't know about you but I haven't seen for quite some time the Buffon from 2-3 years ago. Not sure if the current Buffon is worth 30+ mil euros, especially when he isn't exactly our only option.

I think Frey is really determined to stay in Florence (gf maybe ;) ) but the one option I had in mind was Amelia - he has all the time in the world to become world class in the next year or two, and would be incomparably much cheaper than Buffon.
I think your estimation of Dida's price is a little negative Zlat. We could surely sell him for about £5 - 6 million.
If you could halve that Buffon price to £7 million plus Abbiati i would say go for it. If not then maybe getting Amelia now is the best option. But even he wouldn't be that cheap i don't think.
There is always Hildebraand to consider or maybe Coupet of Lyon.

So 25 M + Abbiati for Buffon is cool, and 40 M for Torres is an absurd? Wel, no comments...
We can perfectly go on with Abbiati, which is a very good keeper, so use 25 M to get Buffon is exactly what I call splash money in a crazy, irresponsable way; on the other hand, we desperately need to replace Shevchenko, so it's totally reasonable and lucid expend big money on a top class young striker like Torres.

i think everyone will say Buffon is the best.. ya i know that he is expensive but we are AC Milan....If juve can pay him so much when he tranfer from parma so why cant we?? dida IMO is less at 8million. I wont mind get buffon for 15Million + Abbiati...
I remember that last season or early.. many of us complain that Milan buy only cheap n expired( older player that past their primary...stam,favali,amoroso).. now milan target buffon which i think many agree that is the best in his position.. so i think we can be glade at least...
After Galliani announced that nobody (after Shev) could break the contract even if he wanted to leave, do you think he meant Abbiati? I kind of hate Abbiati for his too-quick transformation into a zebra, so it would be nice to see at least we could squeeze some more money out of him if he was so determined to leave after all.
If Buffon doesn't come, Dida surely is my first pick. He is ten times better than the Shev. At least he is an honest and humble man.
Well, what you expect from Abbiati?
Milan has benched him for a couple of years!!! (And cost him his place in the Italian squad)
Right now, he would just die for regular first team action, i bet if in his shoes, you would feel the same way...
Dont know about you guys, but I have always felt that Abbiati is not good enough. Yes, he makes great saves. Yes, he has done well for us in the past. But I dont think he is solid or consistent enough. He had one good season for us in 2000, I think, but after that has looked shaky in my opinion. Even the games he played for Juve in the first half of the season, he looked shaky. If you gave me a choice between Abbiati and Dida, I would take Dida any day. Between Dida and Buffon---for me, Buffon any day. So if Buffon were to come, then it's certainly great news.
Well, if you notice, keepers always have up and down seasons, just look at Dida. Big flop when he first came here (nick named 'duck feet' after the Leeds blunder), to being our hero during the CL winning season, to a shaky presence between the goals this year. A rollercoaster ride or what?
Similar applies to Abbiati... Given the chance, he is good enough as 2nd or 3rd choice in the Italian team.
But, I would have to agree that Buffon is a step above them, if not 2 or 3. Simple reason is that he is damn consistent year in year out.
Buy Buffon now, and we won't have to worry about our Goalkeeping department for the next 5-7 years...

Buffon is by all means the best GK in Italy, we should get him. Amelia is also a rising star...

Pavel Nedved has revealed Juventus teammate Gigi Buffon is leaving the club after the World Cup.
"I have discussed it with Buffon. He told me he was leaving and that we would probably not play in the same team anymore," Nedved revealed.
"I don't know where he is going though."
he's coming to milan i think .. if he leaves the club 90% IMO he is going to joing ac milan .. :) if dida wants to leave he is welcomed here . if we take him it would be clever to sell dida this summer
but braida also said that were keeping kaka, and were also keeping dida and even if he doesnt want to resign hell have to finish off his contract with us meaning he would leave next season, i doubt that he means it though, i feel were replacing him with buffon

I think that if we could get Buffon at a reasonable price, we would do so and sell Dida to get at least some cash for him. The main reason for doing so, however, would be that Dida would need to be replaced soon anyway - his age - and players like Buffon don't become available every other day, so I am pretty sure we would go for it. Of course, Juve would have to be willing to sell him to an Italian team and the price would have to be nothing outrageous. Oterwise, we would probably keep Dida and get Amelia. In a year from now Dida goes away and Amelia steps in.

I can't imagaine what will be Serie A without Juve, Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina....
My feeling it will be only Juve to Serie B and the other 3 will be fined or points deduction next season..
The decision will be made on July 10 ......
I am also of the belief that Buffon will leave Juventus and make Milan is home this forthcoming season. Buffon's agent has done nothing to aquit rumours surrounding his client. Nedved also stated that he was informed by Buffon that he would be leaving.
Something tell me Buffon will be wearing the number 1. Dida will be sold, maybe even to Arsenal.
why do you think Arsenal need Dida .. they got Lehman which last year been the best goalkeeper in world IMO showed in Wc and also in Premier League .. if u think dida would go there and warm the bench i think you'r wrong he reather would go to Villareal or Deportivo
Well Nedved said Gigi is going from Juve, and we know he will stay in Itali. Dida will most likely go to Spain, and Gigi to Milan. For me that is brilliant simply becouse Buffon is the best goalkeeper in the world. The same thing could happen to Zambrotta and Jankulovski, with Marek going to join Spaletti.

I don't think he has but hope he will be since Thuram's name circulated around once or twice, we could just as well go for an Italian - Canna can play both sides of central defence. Plus, with all the unknowns around Gallas, getting Canna would be a pretty good solution I think.
As for the article, it only mentions of Zambrotta having reached an agreeemnt with milan provided that we stay in Serie A. Doesn't say anything about buffon or Cannavaro being in contact with Milan, though.

I must say that after prity poor season by Gigi once again he proved himself at the WC as the best keeper. I would love to see him with us even for abig amount of money. We should hope for heavy punishment for Juve and get Gigi and Zambrota from them.
hahaha imagine : Buffon
Cafu/miguel-----nesta----canna-------zambro
considerin we need a striker too n we seem to like maxi rodriguez in middlefield, i think we might let all these gems from juve go to real/arsenal/manu/chelsea/barca.
Great news, if we have a deal with Zambrotta I would be delighted as we would have worlds best LB and RB. Cappello could bring all those players to Madrid, but im sure the Italians would prefer to stay in Itali. Gigi and Zambrotta to Milan, maybe Cannavaro to Real.
Dida staying, insist Milan
Sunday 9 July, 2006
Milan claim that goalkeeper Nelson Dida will stay at the club next season – even if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
Talks between both parties concerning a renewal have stalled which did lead to claims that Dida could be sold as his present deal expires in 2007.
But the Italian giants maintain that the Brazil’s World Cup ‘keeper will still be guarding the Rossoneri net for the next 12 months.
“Our position as a club with regard to Dida has not changed,” said director general Ariedo Braida.
“If Dida decides that he doesn’t want to renew, then we will just have to accept his decision.
“But all that would mean is that Nelson will stay at Milan next season and will then be free to decide his future destination.”
The South American did have a nightmare campaign at the San Siro after some costly errors for the club.
Meanwhile, Milan-owned custodian Christian Abbiati is being associated with a move to Torino this summer.
Abbiati, an Italian international, spent last term on loan at Juventus and played a key role in their Scudetto success.

(Affaritaliani.it)

Buffon agent drops Milan hint Monday 10 July, 2006 --channel4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gigi Buffon’s agent has opened the door for a sensational summer move from Juventus to rivals Milan.
The newly crowned world champion has been linked with the Rossoneri recently and Silvano Martina admits the switch may occur.
“Yes, there is a Milan possibility for my client,” Martina told the Affaritaliani.it website on Monday evening.
“However, we have to be careful though as they already have a great ‘keeper in their squad thanks to Nelson Dida.”
Buffon is set to be sold by the Italian giants as a result of the Calciopoli scandal which may see them relegated to Serie B, but Martina insists that there is only one club which the ‘keeper would consider.
“The only side which is of interest are the Rossoneri, that’s because Inter are okay as they are and Real Madrid are an impossibility,” added Martina. “There is also an option in England but that isn’t simple.”
Nevertheless, Martina did concede that his £25m rated client could actually remain in Turin and in the Second Division.
“It would be right for Juventus and Buffon to go their separate ways if they were demoted to Serie B,” he added.
“However, it is clear that Buffon could stay if the club didn’t receive an offer that they were happy with. After all, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if that happened…”
I'm not even going to hold my breath on this one. There was a time when this was one of my biggest dreams, back when Gigi was with Parma. Well, then he can bring Fabio with him....
and let's remember that his uncle was a big star with Milan several decades ago...
it's funny how this thing could end up. on one hand we could be in serie B, lose Kaka and probably a few other stars and not see european football for 2 seasons (well unless we're allowed to qualify to the UEFA via the coppa italia, which would be quite cool, it would never have been as hotly contested) OR we could get players like Zambrotta and Buffon for a pretty good price, aswell as whoever our Sheva kitty brings in and with Pirlo looking like he's made the step up to being one of the worlds finest midfielders. We'd be again one of the strongest 2 or 3 teams in the world.

I won't say 'much better'. BUffon is solid overall and more spectacular than Dida who is better at penalty stopping to be honest in my opinion.
I would rate Buffon to be just a little bit better than Dida but I won't be disappointed if Buffon doesn't come.

If we get the chance to get him on a decent deal, I say Milan should snap up Buffon as quickly as possible. I still remember him making his debut for Parma against us and performing some outstanding saves in that match.
Firstly, Dida is 33 and isn't looking his best. Over the past few months, he has improved a great deal, making some very good saves, but he still doesn't inspire the confidence and assurance he did two years ago. Realistically, it looks like he is past the peak of his career and now entering the slide down.
Normally, I'd say we can stick with Dida as he still probably has another couple of years in him at the top. However, Buffon for me is an exception. He is the best keeper in the world and he has been for almost all of his career (or there about as Dida was definately challenging him a few years ago). At the age of 28 (or there abouts), he has many more years at the top (he may not even be at his peak yet  ), which would be perfect for us for another 7-8 years.
For me, Buffon is an element that is necessary in our side. We have a superb defence (look at the second half of last season if you don't believe me) and our flaws in defence are usually on crosses or set pieces, where we are often panicking in the box in front of goal, where really its up to the keeper to be dominant.
Dida has often flapped at crosses when under a little pressure, or fumbled the ball to only put it in front of an opposing forward who is left with an easy task to score. Buffon very rarely makes these mistakes, and his punches (and catches) and ability to push the ball away from danger in tough situations is ideal for what we could use in Milan. This will also inspire the confidence in our keeper that Milan often lacks.
What impresses me about Buffon is also his ability to command a defence on set plays. Its truly fantastic and really is organised and disciplined, which means that the team is better prepared to deal with the situation. Dida also commands the defence, but no where near as well as Buffon.
In the end, if we don't get Buffon, I won't be too disappointed, especially as we have Dida at the moment. However, Dida's contract doesn't seem to be getting extended anytime soon, and although he can make just as many spectacular saves as Buffon, overall Buffon has a lot more to give than Dida. Finally, I doubt he'll have too many issues fitting in either as he has played with almost all of our Italian players at some point in his career (also I can't remember, but I think Carlo was his coach at Parma for a while).
Im sure if we get Gigi, we will sell Dida, and ther are many teams that would like to have Dida in their squad. But if Juve goes down and Milan stays in A, its 99% sure Buffon will be rossonero, his agent confirmed. And im sure talks and terms have already been agreed, as now there is only a finnal verdict for possible suspensions to wait for.

I'm quite positive too but the question remains as to whether MIlan is willing to spend that amount of money to replace a GK that is almost equally good.
I don't think Buffon is marginally better, he's a lot better and more consistent. Dida was great the year we won the champions league, but other than that, he has been average or even below average at times. Setting aside that one year, Abbiati was as good as Dida. We would be set for at least 5 years with Buffon.

perhaps... well Abbiati is not as solid as Dida though, that's for sure. Anyway, you are right that we are all set for the next 5 years with Buffon but still my main concern is whether we have the money to spend like this when the priority is not the higesht (oh well, berlusconi is back so nevermind :D)
Honestly, how often do we have an opportunity to sign a truly world class keeper, proven in European competition, a recent World Cup winner, still young and yet to peak---all this from our fiercest rivals? For me, it's a no brainer. If he is available, we HAVE to sign him. It will cost a hell of a lot of money, but for all of you who dont think he's worth it, try asking Juventus if it was worth making him the most expensive keeper in the world.

If we do manage to sign Buffon -
I think it means Dida will be sold, and Abbiati will be heading over to Juventus.
Abbiati will start for Juv in B for 1 season, and then likely be the A starter after that.
I think he would be thrilled with that.
In my opinion, more important than Buffon, is Zambrotta. Our defense is aging. Gallas
is likely not coming, and Zambrotta is definately one of the best in the world. He's just
absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, from reports I've read - he may be more interested
in going to Barca/Real Madrid/Chelski - depending on Roberto Carlos/Abidal/Gallas.
Things can change in a heartbeat though, and do.

not really, Dida's highest level is probably the same as buffon's. the difference is buffon played with amazing confidence since a very young age. i have seen him grabbing balls in dangerous situations with just one hand when he was in parma and also dribble the ball when the opponents try to get the ball from him. Buffon is one supremely confident or even slightly arrogant keeper and this is a quality that none of the other keepers have.
Abbiati is never as steady as Dida or buffon but then he is a keeper with amazing reflexs during his peak. His ability to keep out the ball when during 1 on 1 situation is still unmatched by any others IMO.
Dida was great 2-3 years ago but have never reach the same standard since then and we have to consider replacing him as he ain't going to get better anymore.
Look! I just want to remind ourselves that the squad we have now is:
GK: Dida, Kalac, Fiori
DF: Nesta, Maldini, Costacurta, Cafu, Kalaz, Serginho, Simic
MF: Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso, Y.Goucouf, Amrosini, Brocchi, Janku, Voggel
FW: Gila, Inzaghi, Amoroso
Can we win something with this squad? Milan have about 35 days to do something, now we only have the fans talking about Gallas, Thuram, Zambrotta, Torres, Tevez, Diarra, ... non of the major signing has been confirm.
I have fire in my gut, come on Galliani, you said we are a buying club, yet, we get Favalli, Brocchi, you want Ze Roberto... not promising at all.

GK: Dida is good at his best, but he is not at his best these days. Kalac and Fiori? Let's hope we don't need to use any of them too much.
DF: Nesta and Kaladze are the best. Unfortunately I'm afraid we can't rely on either Maldini, Cafu or Costacurta for a whole season anymore (due to injuries and loss of form). Serginho had a great season, but is also getting old. Simic is ok as backup. Favalli? Not sure he is the answer to our defensive "problems" and the man to bring us trophies.
MF: The best part of the team with stars like Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso. Still waiting for Jankulovski to produce his best form, but I still believe in him. Vogel has shown he is great backup and had a good World Cup. Ambrosini is always injured and I'm not sure what to expect from him anymore. Brocchi had a good season at Fiorentina and might be a good addition to our squad. Gourcuff is an exciting youngster, let's hope he can surprise us all as Kaka did in his first season with Milan.
FW: Gilardino and Inzaghi are great strikers, although we need more backup as Inzaghi is injured a lot. Amoroso is ok and can make a useful sub, but not in the long term. And three strikers just isn't enough.
So we definitely need defenders and strikers. Buffon as goalkeeper would also be great as Dida hasn't signed a new contract yet. I don't think this squad is good enough to win the Champions League, but hopefully when Calciopoli is over with, it will be... :dcool:

Chanel news Asia TV report, Juve, Viola and Lazio down to "division two" and not mention anything about Milan. Can someone confirm something?
There is a report: Juve, VIola and Lazio start new season in Series B (Juve with minus 20 points) and Milan will stay in Series A with minus 10 to 15 points and out of CL competition.

Just found this at calciomercato....and I think I can read enough of it to understand....
From calciomercato.com:

Ferguson may miss out in Italian fire sale
By : James Fontanella in Milan, 16/07/2006
Sir Alex Ferguson's hopes of signing players from Juventus as a result of the Italian match-fixing scandal diminished yesterday with the news that AC Milan, the club owned by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, are the team likely to benefit from the exodus of players from the former Italian champions.
The United manager, who yesterday saw his team open their South African tour with a 4-0 victory over Orlando Pirates, said afterwards: "The situation with the clubs in Italy is something we are addressing at the moment. It's not exactly clear at this stage what the circumstances are with the clubs that have been relegated.''
But many of Juventus's Italian players, who would prefer to stay in their own country, are now hoping to join AC Milan (who were docked 15 points but not relegated) because they still have a chance of playing in next season's UEFA Cup.
An indirect mistake by the Italian sports Federal Appeal Court (CAF) has given Milan hope of their UEFA Cup place. The CAF punished AC Milan on Friday by ranking them eighth in last year's league table behind Empoli, a small club in Tuscany who would automatically gain the right to play in Europe for the first time in their history.
However, Empoli are currently not allowed to take part in any European competition because they do not have the necessary permit.
"At present Empoli Calcio are not licensed by UEFA and would not be able to take part in the UEFA Cup,'' a spokesman for AC Milan said yesterday. ''The possibility could therefore open up for Milan to take part in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup."
Empoli were convinced the whole 'Calciopoli' affair would end with an amnesty for all the clubs involved and therefore had not prepared to take part in the competition but they insisted yesterday that they would fight Milan's claims to their place in the competition.
"On Monday we will contact UEFA to obtain the licence," said Empoli's secretary general Stefano Calistri. "We have already received some reassuring indications."
But the Italian players think otherwise and defender Gianluca Zambrotta and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, both stars during the last World Cup, are now certain to join AC Milan, according to people close to the players. This news is likely to disappoint Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who was believed to be keen on signing Buffon. Christian Abbiati, another AC Milan goalkeeper who was loaned to Juve last season, may now be sold to Arsenal instead.
Fabio Cannavaro, Italy's captain, has also been approached by Milan, but he is still more tempted by the idea of going to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, midfielders Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo have reassured AC Milan fans, promising loyalty to the club who launched them. This means that Gattuso will not join Manchester United, disappointing Ferguson, who is still desperately seeks a replacement for midfielder Roy Keane. So Ferguson may turn his attention to Juventus's Patrick Vieira, the former Arsenal midfielder who has made it clear that he will definitely be leaving Juventus. Vieira has so far not ruled out a return to the Premiership.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are facing the possibility of losing last season's Serie A Golden Boot winner, Luca Toni. Again Manchester United were reported to be interested in the striker to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy but Toni appears to be heading to Milan's other club Internazionale.
Although Empoli might not obtain the licence to enter the UEFA Cup, it is not yet certain that AC Milan would gain access to the competition.
AC Milan's fate now rests with the Italian Football Association.

I would not get too excited just yet...let's see how everything unfolds.
fingers crossed for Zambrotta and Buffon...
Minute ago I saw on SKY TG24 that Buffon has an agreement with Milan, and wants to stay in Italy, so its almost certain he will join Rossoneri.
He ( Zambrotta ) has a big offer from Barca on the table, but he wants to stay in Italy just as Buffon. Zambrotta had a meeting with Braida and they talked about terms of wages. They say Zambrotta has chosen Milan. But Real still pushes for him and Cannavaro. Cannavaro WILL NOT be Milanista, he had meetings with Abramovic and Calderon...
Also, they say its highly possible Lazio will now sell Oddo, of course - to Milan! :)
some great news...what a lovely channel! :)

Uh-oh, I just found this at channel 4....
Gattuso ponders U-turn Sunday 16 July, 2006
Azzurri star Gennaro Gattuso’s future is in doubt again, after his agent admitted that the Rossoneri midfielder had not yet committed to Milan.
Gattuso had declared last week that he would stay at the San Siro regardless of the Calciopoli verdict stating: “I am certain that I will be at Milan next season and play for them in Serie A.”
However, after Friday’s sentence denied the Diavoli a place in next season’s Champions League, Ringhio appears to be having second thoughts.
“I’m going to sit down with Gennaro now in order to discuss the implications of what has happened,” Gattuso’s agent Andrea D’Amico stated. “Only after an in-depth chat can we decide what will be best for the future.”
There is some good news for the Milan faithful as ex-Parma hit man Alberto Gilardino and Brazilian prodigy Kaka’ have confirmed that they will stay with the club.

Honestly, if thats true, then more than anything it seems to me D'Amico probably wants Rino to leave and will try to convince him to do so (probably for the money more than anything).
However, I trust Rino's made up his mind and will not go back on his words now. He is one of the most honest Milan players around it seems, and I'm certain we'll see him a Milanista again next season.
I'm happy to see that Kaka and Pirlo (Gila already gave his confirmation anyway) have confirmed their stay now, as they seemed the least certain to be staying based on interviews until now.

I don't see how any of the current players will even be allowed to leave the club, particularly a player like Nesta. The new club policy is to keep all our stars for as long as they're under contract, even if they want to leave.
There is no way we will sell the like of Nesta or Kaka... Okay, we have not be in the Champions League this year, but I think we will survive that - so will the players.
As for Buffon, his agent stated he will stay in Italy, so I see as 99% sure we will get him, which really is great news for us!

Reports emanating from Italy claim Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo is keen for a fresh start, with Spain his favoured destination.

I'll believe it when I see it.
They are argueing with themselves.
One day they say Pirlo will stay.
The other day the same site says , Pirlo is almost certain to leave Milan.
:tongue1:
I'm only going to believe it when it's on ACmilan.com or when the Gazzetta reports something like that.
Here's another one. I can't understand Italian but I think the main idea is about:
Kaka for 100M Euros - Chelsea
http://www.corriere.it/Primo_Piano/Sport/2006/07_Luglio/17/kaka.shtml
Although I heard Kaka is only dealing with Real Madrid.
Rumors flying everywhere! Certainly keeping us on our toes for the coming days.

if they doubled their offers, i am sure we are really to deal. :neww:
I don't know if we can believe this because it was written today in one newspaper from Rome, but according to the newspaper, Buffon will be loaned in Roma for 1 year and Doni will come to Juve. It was offered by Juve's GD and Roma menagment is willing to do bussiness ! It also says that Giggi wouldn't mind this !

Imo, this transfer policy isn't smart. For one thing, players who would like to leave, will be dissapointed and they won't give 100%, and also, players will think twice before they sign for Milan in the future because they'll know they will be stuck there !!!
AC Milan should work on making conditions for players to be satisfied in Milan and wanna stay in Milan, the club shouldn't blackmail the players like this because the effect may be opposite of what Berlu is trying to achieve !

AC Milan consider cashing in on Pirlo
AC Milan's reluctance to open new contract talks with Andrea Pirlo has led to speculation that they're ready to sell the playmaker.
Pirlo has less than two years left on his existing Milan deal and so far is still to hear from club officials over a new contract offer.
The Italy international declared before Friday's Calciopoli ruling that he wouldn't consider playing in Serie B and "it would appeal to me to play in Spain, I've thought about it".
Manchester United were linked with Pirlo last week and Italian media reports today state Real Madrid and Arsenal are also preparing to bid for the World Cup winner.
Is it just me or has the whole damned world gone mad? Getting rid of Pirlo? Kaka now saying he's so freakin' flattered b/c Real Madrid wants him and he'd go there? It's getting to the point where I hate the summer rumor mill (aka transfer season). :gun:

I have a very closer friend who is a sports journalist here in Brazil and asked him last Friday to contact his friends at Italy to check all these rumours.
Yesterday he called me saying that, according to an Italian sports journalist, Zambrotta has a deal with Milan since the end of last season and Buffon has already a deal too. And this will be unveil as soon as the CAF's final veredict comes up - probably the deadline will be next Friday.
No mention to Oddo.
Just one thought that crossed my mind recently: Can CAF increase the penalty they asked for us last Friday and demand more? Or is this technically impossible?
Well, sorry...I only posted it because someone asked where maji tz's source was.

Yes, the appeal board can change everything, infact Palazzi (the prosecutor) is going to appeal from the sentence given to Milan and Juventus.
