Dida in Rossoneri dispute? --borrowed from channel4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are reports that Dida has run into a contractual row with Milan, putting his future at the club in doubt.
The goalkeeper’s current deal expires in June 2007, but today there are claims in the Italian Press that he has hesitated in coming into the club office to discuss a renewal, preferring to discuss terms at the end of the season.
It’s said this attitude has irritated the Rossoneri, who have had to defend Dida’s form this year after a series of howlers.
If the contract is not extended soon, it’s likely Milan will opt to sell the Brazilian rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
They already have a replacement lined up, as Christian Abbiati returns from his loan spell at Juventus, where he impressed during Gianluigi Buffon’s injury lay-off.
There have also been reports this week that the Rossoneri are trying to prise Buffon away from Turin, but his agent and Milan vice-President Adriano Galliani have laughed off these rumours.
Nonetheless, with Dida looking particularly shaky between the sticks all season, his future at San Siro is far from secure.
The 32-year-old had a patchy start to his Italian career, joining Milan from Corinthians in 2000-01 and making only a handful of disappointing appearances – including a costly slip in the 1-0 Champions League defeat at Leeds United – before returning to the Brazilian club on loan.
He had become the undisputed Number 1 at Milan upon his return in 2002, proving decisive in the 2003 Champions League Final win over Juventus, but has stuttered this term.
