View Full Version : Striker worthy the place of Andriy Shevchenko
Just curious about the preferences of MM posters......feel free to choose, but hopefully wisely....not just based on like and dislikenesses.
Me Myself chose Adriano....

Henry and Adriano are the only players Id rather have over Shevchenko.
However, I see Van Nisterloy as the most probable Anti-Sheva this summer.
I didn't include Henry on the poll cos of him staying @ Arsenal....I would chose Henry if he is on that list, based on his proven capability and he won't costs much....

1) Fernando Torres
2) Carlos Tevez
3) Samuel Eto'o
4) Adriano
5) Ibrahimovic
My pick would be Carlos Tevez, someone that can move around in and outside of the box and give supply to Gila.

Yes I like Cassano. He has that brilliance and finer skill that Inzaghi and Gila lack. I say Cassano. Need to put a lid on him though. Find a good fat woman for him to marry.

Cassano is a chubby Real Madrid reserve-player who doesn't score enough goals... How could he replace Shevchenko???
I'd go for these (as we know Henry won't leave):
1. Eto'o
2. Adriano
3. Van Nistelrooy
4. Torres
5. Tevez
in order:
1. Adriano
2. Etoo
3. Ibrahimovic
4. Roy Makaay
5. Dirk Kuyt
I chose Luca Toni. I was surprised Milan signed Gila instead of Toni in the summer, maybe because Gila has potential? I'm only really basing this on all the goals he's scored in the league, don't know about CL - but we'll probably find out this season.
Eitherway, I don't think anyone can truely replace Sheva, he is unique.
If you dont mind me saying. Why Adriano? We need someone who is versitile as Sheva was. We dont need these power forwards. We need someone up there that can have some fine dribbling, passing, touch, etc and able to score mucho goals. Gila doesnt have all of this nor does Inzaghi. Otherwise why not enforce the midfield a bit more with some classy players. I dont see Adriano or Etoo as ones who are well rounded as Sheva is.

the closest player to sheva from that list is adriano.... sheva is not the striker youre describing in ur post... sheva isnt the best dribbler in the world infact adriano is a much better one... adriano also has better control and skill on the ball, sheva is still the best striker from the list because hes very good in everything (heading, shooting with both feet, finishing, setting up team mates ... etc) but there are some aspects where adriano is better, that are more individual ... i think if adriano came he would be the perfect replacement because i doubt he wont settle in, he knows the city well, his style is brazilian (milanese) his friends are kaka dida cafu and serginho and we all know what hes capable of
as for etoo... well he has proven time after time that hes one of the worlds best, he always scores, and with a good partnership like gila and kaka he can be just as explosive as with his relationship with ronaldinho and larsson but i doubt barca would think of selling him
after veron's words today, i feel that we have a good chance of signing adriano, if not probably zlatan or kuyt
I voted Fernando Torres, because as far as I know him as a player, he is set to have the brightest future of the whole list ! Don't forget he's still only 22 years old !
As to know if Sheva can be replaced, forget about it ! (I already stated this many times today)
Let's just hope we can make the best out of what will come...
We can still count on players like Gila or Inzaghi to score goals... We can still count on players like Pirlo or Kaka to set up goals...
The only thing we lost today is a player who can be such a model, and who can do all those things at once, while smiling all over the way...

I voted Eto'o because out of all the players in the list he is currently the best. Adriano would be fantastic but lets be realistic here, would he cross over to other side of Milan? I don't think so, but you always have a chance, afterall just look at what Sheva did.
My top three choice based on what I feel is realistic 1. Eto'o 2. Torres 3. Tevez
C'mon Galliani show the world what we are made of!
realistically:
1- Ibrahimovic
2- Makaay
3- Kuyt
4- Tevez

Ok... fair enough. I'll take your word for it. Now can Adriano assist as Sheva has done. Seems to me Adriano is kind of a ball hog IMO. As much as I disdain Inter, I dont recall Adriano giving up the rock so that someone in a better position to goal can score.
Considering that Eto'o is completely unrealistic and shouldn't even have been listed because he's not going anywhere, the best choice on that list by a wide, wide margin would be Carlos Tevez.

yeah but thats where sheva is better... maybe hes a ball hog... but so is inzaghi... thats a problem that can easily be solved, besides i think the environment we have here will help him become even a better player than the one he already is... him and kaka and gila can be very very explosive, he can also be a free kick taker, his left foot is second to none

I would want to see 2 of the following:
Zlatan, Teves, Kuijt, Cassano in no particular order.
A less realistic option is Adriano but that would be close to impossible, I think as Moratti would hardly have the guts to most probably show himslelf yet again as a totally incompetent president by selling us a player like Adriano only for us to take him back to his best in a moth or two.
Soon, we will have to start thinking of finding a younger yet experienced version of Inzaghi - Pippo could be our 5th striker but that doesn't man he won't play at all - and there is hardly anyone better than Trez at this.

are you guys joking about cassano??? he was garbage this year and last year, he doesnt even deserve to step on the field.. id rather have crouch than this useless arrogant piece of ****
in my opinion...tevez is perfect for this
Stezagud
27-05-2006, 11:01
I voted for Totti, though i doubt we can get him. Totti is statistically worth a goal a game to Roma (through either scoring or assisting) and would complete our strikeforce imo, as he would provide the ammunition for Gila's poaching and Kaka's penetrative runs. He'd also score about 20 a year himself and take over all set pieces....
Who else on the list can do all that? Maybe Tevez can but we know for certain Totti can as he's been doing it for a decade!
I voted Crespo!!!!!! I think he can do Sheva`s role! Though I would like to add Tevez too!
All thoes players are linkend 2 us?

no one who mentioned cassano would want hte cassano from this or last year to play for milan. We all hope that the close and friendly environment at Milan will help motivate him to get back to his best and will give him back the desire to play football. right now, cassano is probably deeply depressed and probably lost all will to play - from what I hear, he is the most out of shape (read FAT) player at Real M right now, and with ronnie there, that's quite an achievement.
When I say Cassano, I mean the Cassano after a complete overhaul alla "Crespo" during his loan period with us.

I think it is going to boil down to Torres and Zlatan.....
We cannot replace sheva...we have to understand that ..he is a one of a kind striker....
But we have to great scorers in our team in inzaghi and gilardino......so we need someone who is give us another dimension in the foward line...someone who can take on defenders and create more space for the fowards....and those 2 are the best for that job
Replacements for Sheva
1) Adriano
2) Tevez
Replacements for Amoroso
1) Vucinic

Sheva wasn't proven in Serie A when he came to Milan either. By your way of thinking, Milan should limit itself only to players who already have Serie A experience.
And what makes you so certain that Tevez would not want to play for Milan? Is your opinion of the club that low? ;)

Hmmm... Crespo for Amoroso is a good deal.
Indeed... But getting Crespo in, would mean getting less money in... Would we then still be matching Torres, Tevez or Adriano ?
M
i dont want another pure striker who just hangs around the penalty box for ball supply, we already have this type of striker in gila and pippo, what we need is a player with imagination, creativity, magic and HARDWORKING! only one player fits those criterias, that is CARLOS TEVEZ! since chelsea got sheva, it will make tevez joins milan with cheaper price becoming possible since tevez belongs to abramovich if i am not mistaken.
having tevez will be like having another different type of kaka.
what kind of theory is only buying player who is proven in serie A? it must be the most silly theory that i have ever heard.
I'm still on for Torres as well ! Let it be Torres and Tevez... Then we might be prepared for the next 15 years ! :) (Just kiddin...)

Well, we will have to use extra money anyway, 'cause besides a top class striker, we still need to purchase a couple of defenders and a couple of midfielders.
Cassano+Milanlab=Great player.
As Iv mentioned a million times before I cant stand all the Torres hype and I love Etoo.
Iv only seen Kuyt play a few times, but he would be a nightmare to mark. Im not sure if hes a "Sheva replacement", but I wouldnt mind having him.
Teves seems to have emerged as a possibilty recently and he is a monster player.
I kinda surprised with the result up to now....i assume a lot of you guys has seen much of Tevez.....as for me, because i don't see much of Latin football, i just can't vote for Carlos since i've never really seen him play in my life (maybe a little in Toyota Cup), so i'd never gamble for him to join our club.....
anyway,if i got the power to give multiple choice, i'd go for (in particular order)
1. Adriano
2. Ibrahimovic
3. Ronaldo
4. Cassano
5. Totti
And even Suazo now being linked......

Eto'o to succeed Sheva? Saturday 27 May, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan are facing up to life without Andriy Shevchenko and the list of potential heirs is topped by Samuel Eto’o and David Suazo.
Chelsea are set to hand over £35m to bring the Ukrainian to Stamford Bridge after he officially handed in a transfer request on Friday, although that figure could be reduced if William Gallas were part of the deal.
Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba are also possible bargaining tools, as both forwards have suggested they would like to leave Chelsea, while the Argentine spent last season on loan at Milan.
The Rossoneri must now find a new striker to fill Sheva’s Ballon d’Or winning shoes and the newspapers in Italy have drawn up a list of options.
The top choice would be Barcelona star Eto’o, fresh from his Pichichi crown as top scorer in La Liga this season with 26 goals.
However, with Thierry Henry extending his Arsenal stay, it’s unlikely Barca would be willing to part with the Cameroon international.
It’s claimed in Spain that Eto’o’s departure would only be agreed if the Blaugrana got their hands on Atletico Madrid starlet Fernando Torres – another Milan target.
Unhappy Inter man Adriano has been named as an outlandish alternative, as to cross San Siro now would surely send shockwaves through the city.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Juventus and even Real Madrid man Ronaldo – another former Inter hero – have also been suggested.
However, rumours are gathering pace that the Rossoneri will snap up Cagliari sensation Suazo for just £6m and invest the remaining Shevchenko cash in strengthening their defence and midfield.
Honduras international Suazo was one of the surprise packages of the current campaign, having broken Gigi Riva’s club record of 22 Serie A goals for the Sardinian side.
“I talk to my agent every day, but for the moment there are no developments,” said the 26-year-old earlier this week.
“I have a contract until 2008 and everyone knows I am in no hurry to run away from Cagliari, as I am very happy here, but at the same time it depends on what offers I receive.”
Meanwhile, Milan are already working on the rest of the squad, as Rennes midfielder Yoann Gourcuff has confirmed he’s in talks with the side.
“I am in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon and Milan, but I haven’t signed anything yet, as I still have to make a decision,” he said. “My future will be decided after the European Under-21 Championships.”
Gourcuff will turn 20 in July but, despite his tender age, has already become a key figure for Rennes and France’s European Championship winning Under-19 side. He is quick, keeps a cool head and scored a hat-trick in that tournament against Norway.

I think we need, Kui. A physical presence insede the box (Adriano, Drogba etc.) will make Milan a better balanced team. Nowadays, Gila, Inzaghi and Amoroso basically play in the same way - or in a very close way. None of them can be considered a physical presence inside the box.
Last season we tried to balance it with Vieri and now I think the club will try the same solution with Drogba and Suazo and them will make Gila's work, who love to work from outside to inside the box, easier.
Milan, after Sheva is Drogba Ivoriano in advantage on Ibra and Eto'
Badly digested the forced goodbye of Shevchenko, in rossonera house it is time to put itself to the job to hunting of the heir of the ucraino. The percorribile track at the moment seems that one that leads to the ivoriano Didier Drogba of the Chelsea.
In alternative the candidacy of Samuel Eto' or Barcelona resists, but also that one of Ibrahimovic, ready to greeting the Juve in case of demotion in B. Continua appeals to Suazo of the Cagliari. It will not be easy to forget seven years about Sheva. Still less to find a substitute to the height of the forward ucraino, fallen between the arms of the sirene "blues". But, in via Turati, it is time to turn page and to think next to the future.
The list of the "papabili" eredi is long and driven in of important names: vanished the dream Henry, the warm name remains that one of Didier Drogba. The ivoriano would come turned from the Chelsea to Milan like contropartita technical (with to Gallas) for the purchase of Shevchenko. "the Milan is a lot interested to Didier and it would be happiest for playing for they" had anticipated the manager of the player.
The first alternative to the tip "blues" is represented from Samuel Eto' or of Barcelona. The azulgrana is trying to close for Fernando Torres of the Athletic Madrid and, in the case in which the transaction port went, the camerunense it would have via free in order marrying elsewhere. But the tracks are not tramontate not even that carry to talents already discoveries from Italian soccer, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adrian.
The Swede and the Brazilian would have from theirs also the advantage of the age: both 24enne, the two bomber would guarantee a solid investment for the future. And it remains in auge also the hypothesis David Suazo

Drogba runs to Rossoneri Saturday 27 May, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The race is on to find Andriy Shevchenko’s successor at Milan and Didier Drogba’s agent confirms a deal is on the cards.
“Milan are very interested in Didier and he would be extremely happy to play for them,” Pierre Felot was quoted as saying in the Italian Press today.
The Ivory Coast international, who was signed for £24m only two summers ago, is unhappy at Chelsea and made his desire to leave clear.
“I’m not happy. For two seasons I have been unable to express my full potential,” he told ‘The Sun’.
“As for my future, it does not depend on me alone. I have two years left on my contract and so far have not received any offers.”
This would be a perfect solution for both clubs, as Chelsea could bring down the £35m price-tag for Shevchenko by including Drogba in the deal – thereby providing Milan with a ready-made replacement.
However, there are other considerations, as the Rossoneri are thought to be wary of his untested Serie A status.
This is why they have been heavily linked with swoops for Juventus man Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cagliari sensation David Suazo and even Inter rival Adriano.
“The newspapers are going crazy with lists of possible signings, but these are just theories,” read a statement on the official Milan website this morning.
“Right now the certainties in attack for next season answer to the names Marcio Amoroso, Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi. New space and new responsibility awaits them, especially for Gila.”
Gilardino was signed for £17m from Parma last summer, but struggled to find room in the final months of the campaign, as he was pushed out by the stunning form of Inzaghi.
Now that Shevchenko is moving on, this will allow the Italian international to forge a partnership with Super Pippo.
With that in mind, the Suazo option is increasingly popular, as the Honduras international would be relatively cheap – around £6m – is already proven in Serie A with 22 goals this term and could be content with a spot on the bench.
He also has characteristics the other strikers in the squad do not: blistering pace and the kind of physicality that reminds many of former Rossoneri hero George Weah.
Dr Milano

nothing good can come from this ... he is a flop at chelsea and the premierships defenses are nothing compared to serie A this wont be a good signing ... i hope milan lose intrest in him soon
Please, no, Drogba will be another Vieri.
If the only striker we can get is Suazo and not waste money on Ibra or Drogba, I will be happy. The only other possible striker is Eto'o, and I doubt we'll get him.
Cassano would be nice, too. So right now the 2 best strikers to get are Cassano and Suazo. Getting both wouldn't be a good move, having Gila, Pippo, Cassano, and Suazo be the 4 strikers won't let any of them have enough playing time.
Lets just keep Teves's name floating around :D
No Drogba please. The guy is horrible in every aspect. The only thing he has is strength but that is not enough to lead a forward line in Milan. He could only mess up the deal as he will bring the price of Sheva down but we will get a sh!t player in return. Drogba + $ = Chelsea victory / Gallas + $ = Milan victory!
As for the replacement, Eto'o; Ibrahimovic and Cassano are my first choices.
Eto'o can finish, has a great pace and great awareness of where other players are as well as he has great dribbling mostly because of his pace. It might mean however that we spend all we get from Chelsea on him because he will cost a lot.It might be a possiblity however given the increasing links with Barca and Torres.
Ibrahimovic is a great player. Whoever says that he can't finish and he sucks obviously is only speaking because of their personal dislike of the player and not looking at the situation realistically. I don't really like Ibra's attitude either, but that can't make me say that he is a bad player. I didn't like Pippo's dives too before he came to Milan, but look at him now. The truth and the fact is that Ibrahimovic is and will definetly be one of the greates strikers in the world. The type of skill and control over the ball that this man has combined with the size that he has is amazing. It is true that he didn't have the best of seasons, but I am positive that next year the goals will come again like they did in his first year for Juve. Juve's scandal might be a great chance for grabbing him away from them.
Cassano is in no doubt a great player. We all remember his Roma days and we all remember the 2004 European Championships. It has been a bizzare year for him as he has hardly played, but noone in their right mind can deny the quality that Cassano has. After all, I find it really difficult to believe that Cassano forgot how to play the game in one season. The only reason why he did not play in Madrid was because their coach was affraid to bench Ronaldo and a horrible Raul who hasn't played good football for years now. Cassano might be the perfect player for us as he might also come pretty cheap, as I don't think Real are very keen on keeping him.
As for the other players that we are linked with, some are I think pure rummors and others are jus not good options. Suazo for example looks to be a good player, but I am not convinced by these 1 year sensation players. They have one great year and burst on the scene by being linked with the best clubs in the world. I am not denying that he is a good player and that he might have success, but I am not quite sure if we can put our faith in him.
Adriano on the other hand is a great player, but I would not put in front of Cassano, Eto'o and Ibrahimovic. He is my choice if we can't get these three, although I don't know if Inter would be willing to give him to us unless they get a great forward from somwhere.
Van Nistelrooy gives me mixed feelings. He is a good player that scores a lot of goals, which in fact might be what we need. The only problem is that he is too similar to Gilardino and Inzaghi. Even thought he has size, he is not the type of player that will win you long balls like Ibrahimovic will, while his pace is not great either. Getting him will only dull up our forward line as we will have no versatility at all. If this signing happens then I hope I am proven wrong.
To put them in order I would say: Eto'o, Ibrahimovic, Cassano, Adriano, Van Nistelrooy.
I cannot believe all this crap being spoken about Drogba!! Also, comparing him to Vieri is a little excessive because Vieri a billion years older than him and probably won't be playing soccer in the next 5-10 years whereas Drogba will. This guy is a beast, 10X better than many of the strikers being mentioned when he is playing at his best. He also said the problem is not him but Chelsea. I can name you a billion flops on other teams, with massive amount of talent, who fluorished at Milan!! All I'm saying is Drogba at Milan (hopefully also Gallas) is nothing but good news.

Why does everyone either put Gallas at left back or behind Kaladze in the lineup? Pay attention people!!!! The reason Gallas wants to leave Chelsea is because he does not want to play anywhere but in the center. If he comes to Milan, he will be a center back. Not a left back. Not a right back. Not a goalkeeper or a striker or a midfielder. He's not coming to Milan to be any of those things or to sit the bench. He will be a center back. He will start alongside Nesta and that will be that. :v46:

I'm not a fan of Ruud, but didn't Drogba literally lead the Ivory Coast to the World Cup qualification and wasn't he one of the best stikers in the world wanted by every single big club in Europe? Oh, and didn't Chelsea cash out an impressive $45 million, about $10 million more than what Chelsea is willing to pay for Sheva. Drogba has the size, strength, and power to dominate in Serie A. I will admit the Campionato is tougher than the English league. The defense is harder to get by and the game is a lot slower than the English one but I know that Drogba has the ability to adapt to it and probably excell at it. Also, Ibrahimovic only scored about 8 goals this year. Even sucky Del Piero scored more than him. So I have no idea where all the praise towards him is coming from or even for Cassano in this case. Cassano hasn't proven he is a consistent player or even a great player in the last couple of years. I possibly believe the best solution is getting not only Drogba from Chelsea but also obtaining Crespo and Gallas. Other players I believe should also be highly considered are:
Luca Toni
Samuel Eto'o
David Suazo
Adriano (remeber the transformation of Pirlo and Seedorf)

Man...sounds like over this board people watch la liga and epl much more then serie a.
epl is faster then serie a?????
then what about pool vs us in cl final????
Drogba is overrated player...Torres is hyped too much in spain.
I better get suazo or cassano....adriano is great choice too
wow, chillax Rick!! It was only a possible line-up as Gallas does have the ability to play left back. I didn't know that was the reason he wanted to leave Chelsea.

Epl is faster than serie A, and that is a proven fact. Ask anybody who watches serie A and the Epl and they will tell you it is faster and a lot more goals are scored. Only in Serie A do you have so much focus on defense, and it is greatly represented in the national team.
SHEVA IS IRREPLACABLE !!! but i think......FERNANDO tORRES WILL BE GREAT

exactly! finally somebody mentioned it..
sheva leaving = i see that gila will shine this season espacialy in the world cup. and i think lippi will teach him a couple of things that will help us. in my view gila will take sheva's role and milan will buy a box player, cuz we've seen gila moves a lot but pirlo was watched and gila has a lot potenial then sheva the past season. any great box player will do the trick, drogba and kuyt are great choices cuz they have a strong body and good at headers.
1)Toni(cuz he will get along very well with gila)
2)adriano (if my theory is wrong)
3) Etoo ( a shining star can do both adriano' and toni's jobs)

Let me just trim this list
Impossible;
Adriano - our biggest rival giving us their best player?!
Zlatan - see above, even if they relegate they will sell him abroad
Trezeguet - see above
Eto'o - Barca just missed on Henry and now they're selling Eto'o?!
Totti - prefers 1 title with Roma over 10 with Milan
Del Piero - said he would even play in Serie B
Ronaldo - only deal is to swap with Adriano
Not good enough;
Makaay
Raul
Fred
Gudjohson
Kuyt
Crespo
Drogba
Unproven;
Torres
Tevez
Kerlon
Toni - in Europe
Leaves;
Van Nistelrooy
Cassano
Van Nistelrooy is a worthy shortterm replacement.
Cassano is a worthy longterm replacement.
I vote for a new younger Milan, I vote for Cassano.

If it sounded like I was picking on you personally, I'm sorry. You just happened to be the one where I finally decided I needed to speak up. It's just that I've seen all these possible lineups posted the past couple of weeks with Gallas either at left back or sitting on the bench and Gallas has been unhappy with the situation at Chelsea for so long that I would have thought everyone knew the reason by now. He was unhappy last summer because he had been forced to play most of the previous season at left back. That's why Chelsea tried to get Ashley Cole and why they finally brought in Del Horno. He started this past season expecting to be in the middle full time and found himself playing on the outside once again. I'm sure he would be willing to play there termporarily in an emergency, but Gallas would not wish to come to Milan if he wasn't satisfied that Milan planned to insert in the middle.
some users said no more penalty box player, but most of the players linked to us are box players! i think we can forget about etoo, barca wont sell him and he doesnt want to leave barca either. Amoroso will stay as confirmed by milan, so definitely only one striker coming. who would it be..? i will support whoever that milan bring as long as it doesnt cost too much money!
do u guys think sheva will be confirmed as chelsea player before the worldcup?
I would take Tevez since he is a player of a style that we need. I don't need a new player to get in the way of gila and Inzaghi. give me a seconda punta of class!

Messi is younger, less experienced and not as good as Tevez and he's done okay at Barcelona. Obviously there is always a chance that a player might not settle in a different country, but there is no question whatsoever of Carlitos' abilities and he has already proven he can play in a country with a different language. And generally players from Argentina settle well in Italy because so many Argentines are descended from Italian immigrants, so some aspects of the cultures are similar. I can't understand why anyone would consider Tevez to be more of a gamble than anyone else. :w200:

Liverpool, chelsea are way too slow teams.
No sheva_4ever...the EPL is the faster of the two leagues, and one of, if not the fastest in Europe.
This is potentially what has cost them in Europe for so long, Sir Fergie has also had to change his tactics for Europe, to play at a slower pace...the comeback vs Bayern in the final is a perfect example of how English teams can use pace to get back into games, and Liverpool, the example you keep referring to, did that for exactly 6 minutes vs Milan in Istanbul, and we all know the outcome there...
Off topic, I kno, but I just had to come to Baresi´s defense here...
OK, so, TEVEZ is who I picked. He has enough skill, has been named player of the year in Brazil (and that is proof enough, as he is an Argentine, and one of the few, playing in the country that hates Argentines the most), can shoot, pass, dribble...he is just a little short, so dont expect many headers to score...but for this we have Gila...
So...Tevez it is for me! Watch him this WCup, and see for yourself how good he is.

You would think that the fact that Tevez, along with Riquelme, are the heart and soul of the Argentina national team, while Messi is a part-time starter and often Tevez' backup would give them a clue. But, alas, some are so Eurocentric in their thinking that they will only rate a player they see playing in Europe. Never mind that you could go to almost any street corner in Buenos Aires and pick up a team that could give a pretty good match to a lot of European national teams.
It does appear, if the reports are to be believed, that either RVN or Drogba will be coming to Milan. I would be okay with that, but I'd also like to see another striker bought, maybe Suazo.

Guys, dont need to go after each other. Who is better: Pele or Maradona? You cant go wrong with either one and both could be the answer. So if you think Messi is better than Tevez, its alright. Same if you think otherwise. Both very good players, but makes no sense to talk Messi since he wont be joining us.
Hopefully Berlu and Galliani get Tevez.

mk18 is right, and I am very surprised that people doubt his opinion. Messi is definitely better than Tevez. Tevez is also definitely a good player with great potential, but you guys have gotta be kidding me by telling me Tevez is better than Messi right now, or will be in the future. Messi is only 18 and has played AMAZINGLY in Liga and Spain. Tevez is 21 and is playing in the Brazilian league (IMO, a class lower than Liga at least) and playing quite well, but still havent seen him do what Messi does.
But still, Tevez is really a good option for us, but Messi is defintely better than Tevez, even if they are in different positions I dont think Tevez comes near him.
mk18 is right, and I am very surprised that people doubt his opinion.
Well, I doubted opinions here since 1999. In fact I usually base what I say in my own opinion and extra info to support it. You and mk18 only have your opinion to base what you claim, I already presented more info.
Messi is definitely better than Tevez. Tevez is also definitely a good player with great potential, but you guys have gotta be kidding me by telling me Tevez is better than Messi right now, or will be in the future.
Messi have only played a couple of games. Tevez have played several seasons. That is a BIG difference. Sorry, but no there is nothing saying that Messi is better NOW.
Messi is only 18 and has played AMAZINGLY in Liga and Spain.
Age is irrelevant if we talk about who is best now. He have played good and even better in some games, but you seem to inflate his contribution. Here is from Barcelona site:
Despite missing the final few weeks of the season, Messi became one of the new band of heroes at FC Barcelona this term. He played 17 games, starting in 11 of them and scoring six goals. In the Champions League, he appeared in six matches and scored one goal, against Panathinaikos.
"appeared in 25 games", that is less than half a season and we are not talking about full games.
Tevez is 21 and is playing in the Brazilian league (IMO, a class lower than Liga at least) and playing quite well, but still havent seen him do what Messi does.
"playing quite well"??? He was voted as the ****ing best player for Gods sake! This is ridicolous! So you claim that Messi who have played about a third of the Barcelona games was "amazing" in Spain and Tevez who was voted as the best player (striker?) in Brazil "played quite well"? No, I think your biased opinion shows.
But still, Tevez is really a good option for us, but Messi is defintely better than Tevez, even if they are in different positions I dont think Tevez comes near him.
In your opinion.
I'm not sure why people are comparing Messi and Tevez. One is a goal creator/provider and the other is a goal scorer. There roles for their respective teams are completely different so a comparison about who is better seems a bit misguided.
Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo has dampened speculation that he will join Milan this summer.
The Argentinian enjoyed a successful loan spell at the San Siro in the 2004/05 season and has been linked with a return.
However, he admits that any possible transfer could be complicated by the match-fixing scandal in Italy.
"With Milan there is nothing concrete and unfortunately the scandal situation doesn't help the transfer market," he said.
"I'd willingly come back to Italy, despite the fact that I feel good at Chelsea."

Why whats wrong with Crespo? The time that he spent with us he was very valuable and really impressed me.....ill rather have him than Amoruso so get Crespo sell Amoruso and get another world class striker to replace sheva.
Crespo would actually be a good option for us on the very strict condition that we also bring in a young striker that may be a bit of a risk. Crespo will be cheap (probably only worth lowering the sheva transfer by about 3-4m) and is a proven serie A goal scorer in our team no less. He would pretty much guarantee around 20 goals in all comps.
However I only think he's a justifiable transfer target if we are worried about taking a risk on someone else. Torres, Tevez or Suazo for example. We must go for either 1 superstar striker or an exciting, but risky, youngster and someone cheap but with a proven pedigree.

It actually started because someone was saying that Tevez was too much of a risk for Milan to consider because he was too inexperienced and had never played in Europe. I made a comment that Tevez was three years older and a better player than Messi, who had done alright at Barcelona. That's when a couple of them started claiming that Messi was better and it deteriorated from there. There should have been no debate because at this point in their careers there really is no comparison and whether or not Messi may be better when he's the same age as Tevez is completely immaterial. In fact, Messi's age and his ability to play very well for Barcelona was the point of my assertion that Tevez is no more a risk than most. Carlitos would be the perfect acquisition to replace Sheva. Whether or not that will happen, of course, is a different story. Especially considering that the Corinthians owner claims that he wants the equivalent of 68 million British pounds for him!

i bet a lot of people haven't seen Tevez in action. This guy is the star of south american football at the tender age of just 18. The biggest transfer ever in south american football. Voted best player in brazil even though he is an argentine.
Messi have only played a "few" games when his pace is the main attraction and not his skills. People are starting all the hype just based on a few reports/critics.
i for one would be pleased to get Tevez but not Messi.

Barcelona's Eto'o spotted in talks with AC Milan chiefs
tribalfootball.com - May 30, 2006
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o met with AC Milan powerbrokers in Monaco on Sunday.
Cameroon ace Eto'o was in Monaco for the Formula One Grand Prix and while there he was spotted in deep conversation with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and transfers chief Ariedo Braida, says El Mundo Deportivo.
Eto'o is being considered by Milan as a replacement for Chelsea-bound striker Andriy Shevchenko.

If only tribalfootball was a credible site!!
Eto'o IMO is over-rated... he only scores alot cuz he gets a billion chances. In a match, he'll score 1 goal for every 5 chances he gets. We had BETTER not sign Drogba... he sucks something really terrible. I agree that we should sell Amoroso, buy one proven forward, one talented youngster and improve our midfield/defense(with some youth hopefully)

What about David Villa from Valencia? Finished 2nd in the goalscoring league behind Eto'o this season. Will be starting for Spain in the World Cup. He is a better buy then Tevez or Torres because he has already proven himself in Europe and in Spain.

With 35 million, I'd buy Antonio Cassano and David Suazo. In total, that would be 15 mil spent.
The rest would be used to beef up the defense. I'd insist on Gallas arriving as part of the Shevchenko deal. For 10 mil Barzagli would arrive. 5 mil would convine Parma to sell Bonera to us instead of Inter.
5 mil left over to work with. Offer 10 mil to Ajax for Maduro, whom I regard as the successor to Rijkaard. Bring Foggia back from Ascoli.
-------------------Cassano/Suazo----Gila/Inzaghi
Jankulovski/Serginho--Pirlo/Seedorf--Maduro/Ambrosini--Kaka/Foggia
-----Maldini/Favalli--Kaladze/Gallas--Nesta/Barzagli--Bonera/Cafu
--------------------------Abbiatti/Coppolla
If Crespo is going to replace Amoroso, then by all means. But, you'll never know the Milan management. We still need a younger striker that is worth the risk.

No news on Tevez?
Not hearing anything now. I think Corinthians might have temporarily priced him out of the market. The owner says he wants almost 100 million euros for him and supposedly Chelsea offered them 32 million euros and was turned down. And with Galliani saying they won't be bringing in a big name player to replace Sheva I think that pretty much closes any chance for him to come to Milan this year anyway. :mex:

"Highest caliber" and "big name" aren't necessarily the same thing. You might want to get used to the sound of "David Suazo." :diablo:
Cagliari accepted 10mil bid from Milan for Suazo, but the deal is not over yet. Suazo is concerned he will not be a starter in Milan and doesnt want to come at any cost, he wants to evaluade the situation more. WE can sign him and I believe we will wait for Juve to go down and then go for Zlatan.

Well, he seems to be really cool, let's see. :-)
and Galliani didnt say that he wouldn't bring a big name player at all. He said he'll do it only if it'll benefit the team's playing style. That's why he ruled out RVN and Drogba.
It depends on which quote you go by, the one in the papers or the one that was on the Milan website. It also depends on your definition of "big name."7 :p017:

http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jun6j.html
Milan have decided that Antonio Cassano would be the perfect replacement for Andriy Shevchenko, claim reports today.
The link goes into more detail.
Anyone will be a good substitute to Sheva as long as he wants to learn Italy.
Imagine Rooney saying, "I want to go to MIlan because I can learn Italian!"
kidding~~~ Sheva is hard to replace but Milan should be fine.

Tevez or Cassano. Noone elso IMO. We need a player who can play as a striker and a midfielder... Neither Gila, nor Pippo can do that. :(

Is Saviola even mentioned anywhere in this thread?
what about micoli??
i think he is prety decent to sub sheva
i think tevez would be best sub for sheva.he is very young and very rare talent.i just saw that dida has rejected milan contract offer.i dont know why are players want to leave i am starting to think that we maybe have something with this scandal
Why has no one mentioned Lucas Podolski?
I think he is worthy of atleast a mention....
He is only 20 years old. Judged to be the best thing out of Germany.Scores goals..left, right and headed. He attracts fans. Tactically he is a roaming forward, very much like the Chelski traitor...drifts to the flank and has a good shot.Almost looks like the gold digger too.
Gila and Podolski...the next generation of Italy and German strikers...maybe he might break the unworthy record set by the Aassomovich biatch..
Only draw back...he just changed clubs...but after what the freakin' gold digging traitor did..anything is possible.

How about Mirsolav Klose from Werder Bremen. He is a proven goal scorer for both club and country and IMO he will be a good addition to our squad. What do you guys think of him?

IMHO, we should look for a striker that can also act like a playmaker...looking for ball and feed it to his team mate when needed. I don't know if Klose is this type of a striker that we need. Don't judge him just because he scored 2 goals yesterday against Costa Rica....
What I am expecting to happen is when Berlusconi back as the President of Milan on the 15th ...then he give us a BIG SURPRISE......

We already got Gilardino and Inzaghi for that role....we need a more seconda punta a la Zlatan,Cassano etc
Mutu could be an option that everyone seems to have forgotten. Before he signed for Chelsea he was the next big thing.
I agree with the choice of Lukas Podolski, he is like a mini-sheva in the making. He drifts wide, got quite good feet, packs a powerful shot, is good in the air and moves around the field a lot.

2 names......Torres for sheva...and Tevez for amoroso, actually there is one more striker from russia which has style like sheva...he was playing for marseille and dinamo moscow, can u help guys ???
Tevez was not even in the starting 11 of Argentina last night and also not subbing those who were withdrawn by Pekerman against Ivory Coast.
Ruud VN also didn't shine against Serbia MN nor Snijder who was told as a good and prospective player. I don't see them as good as discussed in this forum.

its on sports.it also, Milan are prepared to offer arround 15 million euros plus Marco Borriello on loan, Cagliari have also asked for Foggia, but ancelloti wants to keep him to at least xmas to see how he settles in...
That's quite a sum, hopefully we can knock them down a bit.
I also hope that we get another striker aswell, doesn't have to be a big name player (although Tevez would be nice :D) but just another alternative.
Tevez was not even in the starting 11 of Argentina last night and also not subbing those who were withdrawn by Pekerman against Ivory Coast.

How can you make firm judgements on players from a single game? One of the reasons Ruud didn't shine against Serbia was that Robben was so selfish, trying to do everything himself, and wouldn't give him the ball. Even his teammates were upset about it. (Robben is a great talent though and I would love to see him at Milan.) Tevez didn't play against Ivory Coast (nor did Messi for that matter) because Pekerman thought Saviola and Crespo had been working well together. That doesn't mean Tevez isn't better than Saviola nor does it mean that Tevez isn't going to be playing. Clubs have scouts watch players many times over before making decisions on them. If they were to dismiss some players and covet others on the basis of one game it would be disastrous.

that would be a bad deal, i would love to have suazo here, but 15 million is too much, 10m + the loan of borriello and the first option on the loan of foggia seems good to me
Media says the deal could be less than 10mil and co-ownership for Boruello. I dont mind signing Suazo, as he can be great replacement and rotation player. But we need to make some serious bids for world class players like Zambrotta, Diarra, Gallas and so on...... There is a feeling that Milan is waiting to see off Juve situation so we can moive on the Buffon and Ibra.

I'm guessing it says something about Milan meeting up to talk about Suazo tomorrow ?

it says that cagliari seem happy about the offer they received for suazo and so is the player who would earn 3M euros per year compared to the 800.000 euros he earns at cagliari, milan seem to have offered 15M euros + the loan of boriello and the possible loan of foggia in december

Toni had a greeaaatt match. Gila seems to choke in important matches :(
How do you figure that?
Toni had a couple of chances which he couldn't put away, so did Gila, with both unfortunately hitting the woodwork.
They both linked well and held the ball up very well for the midfield to press forward. Both also went into wide areas which effectively stretched a not very impressive Ghana defence.
Both had a fairly even match, where both did well. The only difference was when Toni hit the post, he did something spectacular, whilst when Gila hit the post, it wasn't on purpose as he was trying to lay it off to Toni.
15 million euros is alot for him. I hope it might be 10 million now and then a further 5 million after some sort of clause in his contract is triggered ... like after he's played over 50 games for us, or scored 30 goals for us or has won the league with us or something along those lines.
If it's true then great, but i would also hope for another striker to complete a varied quartet once we let Amorouso go.
i agree, i hope that other striker is luca toni! toni, pippo, suazo and gila ... and when gila leaves maybe someone like cassano or tavanno or klose

Suazo might not be in the works though. I saw a tidbit on something called tifonet (I think) yesterday that said Milan was no longer interested in him. I've also been seeing him linked to Ajax.
I saw Suazo linked with Ajax some time ago, they may even have offered 10 million euros for him.

I prefer Torres...:)
i would be very dissapointed if we end up signing torres for 35 million euros, he has done nothing important on the big stage, chances of him settling in italy arent well due to past history of spanish players, and thats money badly spent given that we can use 20m on diarra and 15m on suazo, and use the rest of the sheva money on gallas, oddo/zambrotta, gourcoff and maybe toni
Remember that getting a world class striker is our first priority. The defense and midfield come after.
but a world class striker doesnt have to cost 35m ... you can get luca toni and suazo for a cheaper price than torres and theyre both proven atleast in italy

For me Toni is not a "world class" striker because he has not done anything on the big stage just like Torres.Toni is been playing well for like two seasons and thats it. Torres is only 22 Toni is 30 !!! I would preffer Suazo , he is 26/27 proved in Italy so I think he is a good solution. Torres is too expensive, good kid but expensive.

Milan tempt Torres Wednesday 14 June, 2006
Andriy Shevchenko’s replacement could well be Spain striker Fernando Torres, as Milan line up a £20m swoop.
The Atletico Madrid youngster has been a Rossoneri target for several years now, but the high price-tag and Shevchenko’s presence made the move untenable up until now.
The £30m cash provided by Chelsea for Sheva will prove useful for bringing in the Spaniard, who it’s reported could be tempted into a switch for between £20.5m and £24m.
“I feel that my future depends on this World Cup,” commented Torres, whose contract expires in 2008 with a £60m buy-out clause.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the 22-year-old, who was his country’s leading scorer in qualifying with seven goals.
Curiously, he’ll be facing off against Shevchenko in this evening’s clash between Spain and Ukraine in Group H.

My only "worry" is that Milan never have a good experience with Spanish players in the past.

AC Milan chief Galliani: We were offered Suazo

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has played down an imminent deal for Cagliari striker David Suazo.
Both Galliani and Cagliari president Massimo Cellino have confirmed they met in recent days to discuss the Honduras international's availability.

Torres is having an excellent game for Spain, and if he continues like this, will be a star of this world cup, as Spain for once look likely to live up to their billing, based on what their side are doing, albeit vs the Ukraine...

i all ready sad if not tevez then torres plsss he is only 22
I just watch Spain trashed Ukraine 4 - 0 and make Shevpound like a "stupid player" who can't do anything for his team.
It maybe the curse for Shevpound "betrayed and lied" Milan to give false reason on his move to Chelski.
I believe Russianmovich start to regret why should he buy Shevpound just for nothing when he watched how the gold digger is actually not that super expensive..???? :v46: :v46:
I also be convinced by watching Torres played and scored 1 wonderful goal against Ukraine. This guy is damn good and the correct answer for the gold digger replacement. :5love: :5love:
Ukraine has only chance to go through if they could beat Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. But then with 4 goals conceded from Spain they can only be #2 in the group.
torres had a brilliant game but I'm still a bit wary. The cure of spanish players in serie A and his price worry me mostly but I'd still say his technical ability is not 100% proven, he certainly has the physique and speed to succeed in serie A though and with gila being more of a right-place-right-time striker than someone blessed with blistering speed or power he could be the right choice. Personally I'd like a good look at Tevez first though, more and more I'm convinced that the right choice is one of those two.
Certainly if we do decide Torres is our man we should be the club most able to tempt him, we can virtually guarantee him a starting position and we've been linked with him for about 3 seasons now aswell as having good ties with athletico. He would be confident about our faith in him and Athletico should be willing to negotiate a realistic value.

more and more I'm being convinced we didn't do badly from the Sheva deal, he kind of destroyed a lot of the respect and admiration I previously had for him which would make me biased and now evaluating purely on preformance (though not for ukraine today, he was totally isolated) you have to concede that 30m for someone who has perhaps 2 good seasons left in him is a good deal if we get a good replacement (an added plus will be his settling in time at chelsea and the language barriers could mean they never see him preform nearly aswell as he did for us)

We need a replacement for sheva who wasn't just a striker but also a guy who could assist well. Torres played very very well today but did he assist or played the role of a play-maker? I don't think so.
Today, Torres broke through the defence and had great shots, thats it! He is just a striker, not a forward! If we wouldn't have had Gila, we certainly should have gone for him.
Of course, if we can swap him and Gila for free :D then that would be the biggest steal of the season.
agree with rahul about torres is a striker
just like gila
but
i prefer gila offer torres
because gila have prove himslef in the serie a
i prefer david villa offer torres
torres not play really good today
I think you're wrong there rahul as Torres made several great through balls to team mates, he linked up well with Villa and Raul and the midfield ... offering himself out wide and beating people with pace. He displayed all the skills we need in a forward, combine this with our training staff making him realise this potential and El Nino could well be the one for us.
I agree with Meazza though, i'd still like to see Tevez and lets not forget this was just one game.
Sylak, Torres didn't play well ? You must be joking. He had an excellent all round game today, i can't believe you think otherwise. He is also nothing like Gilardino.

Torres played great today - much better than I would have expected him to - but let's not get ahead of ourselves; this was just one game vs a team that never really got into the game and played with 10 men for the whole 2nd half.
Also the PK vs Ukraine was a bit made up and in that situation Torres basically misskicked the ball in front of Shovkovski. That should have been a missed opportunity on his account, instead the ref gave a PK and basically finished off the ukranians, who were already in rather deep waters anyway.
Let's give it some more time and see what he is really made of in the later stages of the WC. Should we decide to go for him, we'd better be damn sure that he could play in Serie A and CL cause 30mil euros - and even that might not be enough - isn't pocket change even for a club like Milan.

what i saw of Torres today i was actually impressed, he has alot of speed on him which is good, looks a bit like a young sheva....
Other player im impressed with is Luca Toni, he has great skill for a guy his size.. if Inter are trying to get him, we should try and trip them up on the way... thinkin if he does go to Inter he is just going to have the same problems that Vieri had playing with Adriano
This is my (inspired by boredom) assessments of the transfer targets and the likelyhood of each of them. Part A.
The Player: Adriano Leite Ribeiro
The Pros: Highly rated young striker with a proven goal tally in italy, a bad season and reported dissatisfaction with the squad may mean Inter are tempted to sell him on. Brazilians have always attracted Milan.
The Cons:A good world cup may convince Inter to hold on to him however the real problems lie with Inters past record in transfers to the top clubs in italy, particularly Milan. They will be unwilling to, yet again, offload an under-preforming player with the possibility he may flourish with us making that ever evasive scudetto again less attainable. Should he become available he will attract suitors from Spain and England with Inter far more likely to push him out of Serie A.
The Verdict: 3/10. Unlikely, Inter will be too wary of allowing another potential star to strengethen their main rivals. If he goes it will be far more likely he'll end up in Spain or England.
The Player: Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Pros: Exactly the type of player milan are looking for, technically gifted and strong. While not the all out goal getter that Shevchenko was the management will be happy enough knowing that should Gilardino forfill his potential Goals will not be a problem provided he weighs in with an average amount. Juventus' possible relegation to Serie B or even C would make his departure from Turin very likely, while the player himself would probably find a club the size of Milan an exellent destination to persue his ambitions. It's also possible that Juve may not be adverse to letting him come to us in the interests of rebuilding the shattered relationship between the two clubs after the refreeing scandal, while Moggi seems to wish to take us down Moggi is no longer Juventus.
The Cons: Juventus, in all likelyhood, will escape relegation. Should that be the case Juventus will certainly not sell one of their most prized assests. Again, a departure to a club outside Serie A may be more appealling to Juventus.
The Verdict: 4/10, alot hinges on wether Juventus' are relegated or not, I would say that is less likely to happen than to happen and this transfer should be regarded as having the same odds of going through.
The Player: Samuel Eto'o
The Pros: Another player of absolute quality and certainly one of the few player in the world rated to be every bit the equal of Shevchenko. Reports suggest we have been linked with him while Barcelona have suprised in the past by selling even their star players should a large enough offer come along.
The Cons: Despite Barcelona selling big players in the past, this is a complete Barcelona team that has achieved everything and the management would be unwilling to break up. Eto'o is undeniably one of the key components playing second fiddle only to Ronaldinho and is a huge fan favourite. That Henry is almost certainly not leaving for the Nou Camp there is no real replacement for him. Also Eto'o is completely happy where he is and has said he would be unwilling to move.
The Verdict: 2/10. Hugely unlikely, I see no reason why Barcelona either want or need to sell and the player is settled and would reject a transfer.
The Player: Fernando Torres
The Pros: A player that again fits the bill regarding what milan are looking for. Linked for many seasons with Milan he should be able to arrive in the San Siro knowing that he is genuinely wanted and appreciated and not some vanity buy by a team that has only just become aware of him after the world cup. Athletico are not a huge team and would likely not be able to hold on to him should pressure really be exerted, good ties with Milan should give us another advantage over other teams.
The Cons: Maybe a tad risky as a player, he would still command a huge price and no spanish player has really succeeded in Serie A. Whether Milan, who traditionally put most of their faith with more experienced players, would be willing to have a first choice front line that consisted of two 24 year olds and a 22 year old is also doubtful.
The Verdict: 7/10. A real possibility, if we decide to invest the majority of the Sheva money back into a direct replacement then Torres would surely be on the list of possibles. Our ties with the player and club would also give us an advantage over any other club that attempted to compete for his signature.
The Player: Ruud van Nistelrooy
The Pros: Defiently available, Milan like a bargain and with RvN certain to leave his transfer fee should be way below his value. Proven goalscoring record in the Champions League should convince he is able to score at any level.
The Cons: Not the sort of player we are looking for, very similar to Gilardino and Inzaghi. Plus the 15m price tag man u have declared is not really any sort of a bargain, they may be tempted to use him as a bartering device for another player instead of just selling him in.
The Verdict: 3/10. The ease he could be aquired for means he may just tempt the management as negotiations would be quick and painless. However, he's not really what we're looking for and his age and preformances recently suggest he is in decline.
The Player:David Trezeguet
The Pros: Proven scorer, at his age would probably be desperate to jump ship should Juventus be relegated. There are indications Juve were already willing to offload him so wouldn't object to much to a milan move.
The Cons: Absolutely no reports of any interest from milan, like RvN, he is not the sort of player we are looking for at all.
The Verdict: 1/10. I doubt milan will even enquire and, as I've already said, Juve will probably stay up so he won't even be available.
The Player:Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima
The Pros: Fabulous record and certainly unhappy at madrid. Should the price be right, even with his current form most clubs would be willing to take the chance. We have been linked often with him in the past. Galliani has an eye for a bargain if he's available and the brazilian contingent would welcome him with open arms. Could be a similar situation too Rivaldo.
The Cons: Not the right sort of player, as Galliani has said. A bad world cup could effectively end his days as one of the elite and should he go it's likely he'll move to a smaller club with ambition. Our relationship with Madrid is trained right now aswell. Real Madrid also have a somewhat distorted idea of valuation of players, believing that just being a Madrid player automatically adds 10m to your value.
The Verdict: 3/10. Not likely. It's doubtful we will show any further interest in Ronaldo, Madrids inflated valuation of their players worth will probably put even bargain loving Galliani off.
The Player:Raul Gonzalez Blanco
The Pros: Great scoring record.
The Cons: Numerous. Madrids previously mentioned valuations, his love of where he is, he's not the right sort of player, been injured and could be past it, no reports ever linking him (bar one joke comment made by galliani when he was getting fed up rejecting bids by madrid for Shevchenko)
The Verdict: 1/10. Not a chance.
The Player: Francesco Totti
The Pros: Italian. Has been linked with Milan previously and may be getting sick of having to compete for 4th place every season given his ego. Could Roma decide now is the time to cash in on him?
The Cons: Roma have always declared their intention to hang on to their star player. Whether he is even considered as a viable replacement by Milan remains to be seen given that he's often regarded as an attacking midfielder.
The Verdict: 3/10. Very unlikely, would require a big gamble on Milans part and complete U-turn regarding Roma's attitude to Totti.
The Player:Antonio Cassano
The Pros: Italian and blessed with huge unforfilled potential. Exactly the type of player Milan are looking for to partner Gilardino. Has played in serie A to great effect too and is the right age for a long term replacement to Sheva. Madrids case for a large price tag would be flimsy given that the piad only 4m and he had a pretty awful 6 monthes there.
The Cons: Real Madrid may again look to inflate the value and it's unlikey any team will want to pay over 6m for him given the circumstances of his arrival. Obviously blessed with talent and at his price Madrid could want to hold on to him just in case he does come good given a proper pre-season at the club to get back to fitness. Our relationship with Madrid is also strained and they probably wouldn't be too happy given us a potential star player.
The Verdict: 6/10. This one is more with Madrid than Milan, if Madrid decide to rebuild the strikeforce complately and get rid of Cassano then I'm sure Milan will be in there for his signature. However I just don't see them being reasonable and Milan rarely like paying even a fraction over a fair price.
The Player:Roy Makaay
The Pros: Maybe just the sort of player we're looking for. Podolski's arrival may ease his deaprture.
The Cons: There are never be any reports linking him. His age isn't ideal and his quality is up for debate having failed to make an impact at Bayern beyond his first season.
The Verdict: 2/10. Milan are unlikely to show any interest even if a decent bid would probably tease him away.
The Player:Hernan Crespo
The Pros: Carlo loves him and he's already done the business for us before. Chelsea have a load of strikers already and may even want to splash some more cash should someone catch their eye at the world cup.
The Cons: when we had him he was for playing along side Shevchenko, not for covering him so he's not really what we're looking for. We've already had a fight with Chelsea over his price and he's another year older.
The Verdict: 4/10. We'll probably always keep an eye on him but unless he can be obtained for a real bargain price he's not likely to tempt us into serious negotiations. Still, a bargain price is possible if Chelsea decide to dip into the market, or even if he decides he's had enough sitting on the bench.
The Player:Didier Drogba
The Pros: While he's most certainly a target man and nothing like sheva he's of a type that Carlo has requested before. A big arial threat. He's miserable in chelsea right now and a good world cup could convince Milan that he's merely being stifled there and that he's actually capable of a lot more. He has expressed a desire to play for us and has been strongly linked.
The Cons: Although Carlo has requested a big man upfront, that was when he had Sheva, it's not likely that this notion is on the back burner and striker with entirely different skills is desired. Chelsea don't seem keen to sell and if this is true they won't, if not, it's designed to raise his price above the acceptable for a player as unhappy and under-preforming as he.
The Verdict: 4/10.
the rest tomorrow.
Good post mate! You evaluated the situation like a real expert! However you didn't manetion David Suazo, what do you think of him?

Fat Ronnie is not a bargain even for ZERO euros, he's today nothing but the crumbling ruin of what a very long time ago was a footballer.
more and more I'm being convinced we didn't do badly from the Sheva deal, he kind of destroyed a lot of the respect and admiration I previously had for him which would make me biased and now evaluating purely on preformance (though not for ukraine today, he was totally isolated) you have to concede that 30m for someone who has perhaps 2 good seasons left in him is a good deal if we get a good replacement (an added plus will be his settling in time at chelsea and the language barriers could mean they never see him preform nearly aswell as he did for us)
Other than the fact we got Pounds 30.5mio from Russianmovich I have another thought...
Maybe...just maybe...Milan Lab had found "something" on Sheva's ankle or legs that would make him not as good as before....SO the management decided to sell him while Milan found a "crazy buyer" who can pay that fortune of Pounds for the "wounded" Shevpounds???
Again...this is just what crossed in my mind...right or wrong it's only time will proof this hypothesis....

Torres played very well today, and i think this guy has a great future. But if he will not play for Milan, we ll see his great future in scoring goals against Milan..which is sad. Thats why we should get the guy! He is very very promising!

Wow, after yesterday's performance for Spain, I'm starting to lean more towards Fernando Torres. That last goal was unbelievable!! The guy's got genuine pace, size, skill.

Many of us were worryinhg if Milan buy a Spainiard as we got "problem" with the former Jose Mari who didn't shine with Milan. But then, let us think once again that Jose Mari didn't also shine in his home country club.
So, my conclusion is whether or not a Spaniard could shine in Serie A is fully depends on the talent of the player..not the country... Also if we're talking about players from Eastern Europe...Shevpound is a good example how he shine and became a star with Milan but not Kutuzov......Nedved is shining till today with Juve but not Milan Baros....
This is just to argue about the "worry" if Milan buy Torres....and there is another hurdle for getting Torres as MU also bid for Pounds25k....
Today is June 15th...the day that Uncle Berlusconi promised to be back as Milan's President...Will we get a "BIG SURPRISE" from him????? :ilol:
Hopefully YES !! He brings Gallas, Torres and send Amoroso back to Brasil.... :55angel:

i do agree too and scared if spanish player cant played well in serial a.but i hope that is all in the past.
By the way if we get toress for 20m or below is ok. but is 30m is too expensive as he is not proven in europen stage....(even i know that he can play well in WC). do forget Gilardino is also cant cope in europe in his first season. that mean if we get torres along with gila, inzaghi n amoroso only inzaghi have the experience for next season n all the burden will be on him. at least this year there is still sheva n inzaghi as i think to play well or win the CL experience can be the different....(yayayaya u may say arsenal or porto) ..but that mu opinion...

Its amazing how many peoples opinions can be swayed by just 1 game :)
Let me ask you something, swap Sheva and Torres over, so now Sheva is leading the line for Spain, partnered by Villa and being supplied by Xavi, Alonso, Garcia etc for 90 minutes and Torres is a lone striker with occasional but inneffective support from Voronin. Do you still think Torres will be the more impressive?
The snap judgements are probably the thing that most annoys me about the world cup...
i do still think that torres doesnt played that good
he only got 1 second of good game against ukraine
and that is when he scored the goal.
but other than that
he played a really standard game against that kind of defending from ukraine
if he really that good, than he can do more out of that game
its clear Torres in not as good as Shevchenko, but not even Henry is. Sheva scored crucial goals in the most difficult moments. Torres needs to develop his dribbling and creative play more. But he is a good solution, not sheva but good. Certanly better to have him paired up with Gila than Drogba or Crespo. Still, my dream in Eto'o.

I agree with you. Everybody says how Torres was better than Sheva and whatnot. But I mean look at the difference in skills of the two midfields. Shev barely even got the ball.. that's a poor comparison.

No one is better or even as good as $hevchenko today, that's obvious. But Torres is young, and can develop into a tremendous striker , so he's a FANTASTIC option for us. And I think he's a lot better than any other options listed here (including Et'o), with the single exception of Henry.

Milan to adopt El Nino?
Spanish sensation Fernando Torres has been linked with a move to Milan as a replacement for Andriy Shevchenko. On the evidence of his showing against the Ukraine, Richard Godden believes El Nino would more than fill Sheva’s boots
One of the biggest shocks of the World Cup so far came in the form of Spain’s demolition of the Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon. In the space of 90 minutes, the Furia Roja scored more than half as many goals as the Eastern European’s conceded in their 12-match qualifying campaign. David Villa received many of the plaudits for his match-winning brace, but there was no doubt that the star of the show was Fernando Torres.
Billed as Spain’s best talent since Raul emerged on the Champions League scene more than a decade ago, the Atletico Madrid hitman has not enjoyed the best of starts to his career. Despite the struggles of their city rivals, Atletico remain in the shadow of the Galacticos and Torres has thus so far failed to hit the sort of tally that his talent demands. His Euro 2004 campaign was, much like the rest of the squad, forgettable – except for the peach of a mullet that he displayed.
However, after a promising 2005-06 campaign in which his highlight was a stunning match-winning goal against eventual champions Barcelona, Torres finally looks like he will fulfil his undoubted potential. During qualifying he finished as Spain’s top scorer with seven goals, and the highlight of their Group H opener was Torres’ sensational strike. Despite being 3-0 up at the time, ‘El Nino’ – The Child – showed the kind of grit and determination, coupled with a clinical finish, that should convince Milan that he is the man to replace Andriy Shevchenko.
“I know the rumours about my future are strong now,” he said. “I think it is because there is a World Cup coming up and that’s when people are always thinking about big transfers. I've lived through these rumours a thousand times in the last five years and they won't affect me. I am trying to focus on the World Cup which is my biggest priority right now.”
Despite this being his second major tournament, Torres is still just 22-years-old. A year after making the costly mistake of signing Christian Vieri – although only a free transfer signing, the ex-Inter man commanded a hefty salary – surely the Rossoneri directors will do the right thing this summer? If World Cup defences are worried about the prospect of a David Villa-Torres partnership, imagine what their Serie A counterparts will be thinking if Torres lines up alongside Alberto Gilardino next term…
after that game i am more convinced i dont want torres here, the more i see him the more i realise how overrated he is, 35m euros??? gimme a break!!! he worth 10m at most!
Many people think that Torres is the new van Basten....the price Milan is going to pay him is absolutely depends on Uncle Berlu.....
I still think that it is even better to have him rather than rely only on Gila, Pippo and the Milan tourist...Amoroso... :v103:

not buying him doesnt mean we cant go for anyone else, we can use those 35m to bring in suazo and luca toni instead of amoroso
Toni is getting closer to Inter everyday. Maybe we could lure Adriano instead.

I am not saying that he have done the right thing..but I know also that if not Roma would have stolen those money, they would have been stolen by someone else. Because that time everything in Russia was not organized and highly corrupted (we still have corruption, but not as much as we did). Those who were at more or less good political position, or known someone who was, stolen money from Russia and noone could stop it. So if for instance Roman, who stolen, but then he is constantly giving something back, is better than Berezovskiy, who is horribly greedy and would never share. (BTW, at this moment already Abramovic spends his money, not those that he have stolen. Because he ve put the stolen money into business (he is quite smart, you should admit it) and now he has the percantage..so basically he is spending his money now...plus helping Russia a lil bit)
Toni's price is 18mil euros. Torres is something like 25-30. But Atletico has some great relationships with Milan and im sure we can get a good deal out of this. Maybe even get Torres and Suazo. But there is a great danger that partnershipo Torres-Gila will not dominate like Sheva-gila/pippo. Actually, its almost certain. Toini is dominating forward, and I dont want to see Toni - Adriano in the same lineup.
