This is a thread to highlight players that Milan can buy based on their performances in the world Cup.
The first player I have 'scouted' is Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast.
I thought he had a very good game against Argentina, possibly a very good candidate to be Seedorf/Pirlo's successor.
I think most people are talking about possible players for us in the world cup section lana, i might be wrong though :)

Very very impressed by his performance against Argentina yesterday. Play a defensive midfilder role, but was also capable to create some nice situations to his team.
Nice skills and strong body. Not a super defender like Gattuso, who is?, but overall a fine player.
I'll burn some DVDs to follow his next performances to check whether he is capable or not to keep that level of football he showed yesterday.
I thought Zakora was the better player, both are worth keeping an eye on.
Seeing Sorin and Riquelme in full flight only made me want them more for our side !

Guys, Yaya Toure is better than Diarra.. everytime he played he impressed me.. him along with Akale (number 2).. They are magnificent midfielders..
I cant believe that teams like Atletico have players like Aguero, Barca - Messi, Dinho, Man Utd - goin for Kerlon, and we are going for Sneijder! I didnt think he was good enough at first, but after the game vs Serbia, im surprised we're even linked to him! We should DEFINITELY go for Yaya Toure instead.
mascherano(argentina)
eboué(ivoorkust)
gonzales(porto/argentina)
torres(spain)
xabi alonso(spain)
kaka (brazil hehhee because if the board watch em they finally see he is the best :p)
gerrard (england)because he is targetted by milan!!!
tevez(argentina) so they see he sucks but he is better then saviola :s
crespo to buy as our 3rd striker he did great things at milan
...
-crespo played really good
-mascherano a real worker always asks the ball + always let free
-gonzales: lil to say about, normal sub, but he can do great things
-eboué : played poor but at arsenal a good RB

maybe you a little too excited about the guy. true he is good and has got enormous potential but he has yet to prove himself, something Diarra has been doing for several years now and at the highest possible stage - the CL.
Don't know about you but I find Yaya Toure a bit too big, cumbersome and slow. he lacks explosiveness IMO and against smaller and faster players he could have lots of problems. And this is very much due to his body structure - he is very tall, 190+ I guess - and that's not something that can be changed. maybe he could addapt it to Serie A and CL play but that's under question as of right now.
As for mascherano, I didn't even realized he was playing yesterday, at least not until the late stages of the 2nd half. The ivory Coast midfielders - Toure, Akele, Zakura, etc outplayed the Argentinians IMO. it's only The Ivorians naiveness that cost them the game. maybe with some better coaching this team would have a shot even at the title.

well, i followed him throughout the african cup as well, and he really impressed me there.. i totally forgot about him and when i saw them play again yesterday he reminded me of how good he was.. and i agree that ivory coast totally outplayed argentina and IMO deserved the win.. their finishing was so poor..
you're right, im probably exaggerating by saying he's better than diarra.. but he's got enormous potential, even if he is not as good as diarra yet, he is 6 yrs younger and im pretty sure he will be improve alot.. he plays so much like vieira when he was younger..
and mascherano? i dont understand all the hype about him, i concentrated at him everytime he touched the ball and he's not the special, but thats prolly a one-off game, just like how Sneijder was against Serbia.
Diarra has just turned 25 and Y.Toure has just turned 21. It depends what Milan are looking for Hitman, should we go for a 1st team player like Diarra or someone for the squad like Toure ? For him to reach his best levels we'd have to wait about 4 years, are you prepared to wait that long ?
Plus what was wrong with Sneijder, he played reasonably well. I doubt if Seedorf would have done any better in his position. The only disappointing part of his game today was his free-kicks, they weren't as good as they should be.

I was a big Mascherano fan...but since this guy arrive in Corinthians, his game desapear...
One more time I watched Sneidjer(now in WC)...and I can´t understand the facination about this guy...an above average(maybe good) player every time that I see... It´s just my opinion, but it´s like the Bonera hype. IMO Shwainsteiger(Sp?? What a name!!) is a much better player!!!!
Sneijder barely got the ball.. the match was basically Robben getting the ball, trying to dribble and losing it

Robben in the other hand had an outstanding game. He is tons and tons better than Sneijder. I also cannot understand the hype about him, not even his video clip was that impressive to tell u the truth, but i'll rather wait another game and then judge him. And yeah, Brasiliero is right, Schweinsteiger is alot better than Sneijder, very similar but he is much better.

You can't compare Sneijder and Schwiensteiger as they play in different positions. Robben is more like Schwiensteiger than Sneijder is. You don't see Germany playing Schwiensteiger in the centre of midfield do you ? No, he plays on the left wing, just like Robben.
Schwiensteiger is more combative than Robben, alot tougher. But is he really tough enough to play in our midfield ? I don't think he is. Further forward maybe, but not the right type of player for Seedorf's position.

Buying player based on world cup performances is retarded to put it simply. they are in a special enviroment, we talk about a few games and they can go on form alone. The list of failed transfers of world cup "sensations" is long.

Actually, Schwein is a very versatile player. this guy can play anywhere in midfield. He seems to be at his best on the wings, but either of Seedorf's or Gattuso's positions would suit him great in Milan's romb system. He could do well in kaka's position too I think.
At Bayern he's been played all over the midfield and also both as a RB and LB too in emergencies. If there are any young players out there who would be worthy of coming to Milan, he's got to there on a very short list. Problem he is a German on a long-term (I am guessing here) contract with Bayern and that's hardly been a good sign for an easy move unless some crazy offer comes Bayern's way.
schwein is a good player, i also like his shooting ability, but i love this podolski guy, he has a nice left foot on him, too bad bayern signed him, klose.. now that guy is a finisher, he already has 2 goals, last WC he scored around 6... and he did good in the CL, if pippo ever leaves us I would like it if we can get this guy
I don't doubt his versatility Zlatanov, i just can't believe he would be strong enough physically to play any part in our midfield 3. Kaka's position or off of a striker, yes, he'd be great ... something i've already mentioned. But come on, if we were up against a strong, physical opposition's midfield, a midfield 3 of Schwienstieger, Pirlo and Gattuso would not be strong enough.
For these positions we surely need midfielders with ability and strength, not wide players. We already get out muscled by alot of teams because Seedorf and Pirlo just don't cut it physically, yet people want to replace these midfield areas with Joaquin, Robben and now Schwienstieger ... it just really puzzles me how people can think this would make us stronger :googly:

Jim, I see your point but try to watch Schwein next time he plays. he is very tough physically and doesn't mind getting into tackles. He reminds me a lot about Seedorf - great with the ball, not tall yet physical in his game. Schwein is not one of those fragile winger-type of players that run away from challenges or once they lose the ball they never track back. He is a very good and tenacious defender and if he loses the ball, he goes after it with all he's got.
If I have any reservations about him, it has to do that he is more or less an untouchable player at this point in time as it's not in Bayern's style to let players like him go so easily.
Hmmm ... ok, i will concede this one :D
You're 100% right about Bayern not letting him go, i doubt he'll leave Germany for many years. The only way really is if he has a huge bust up with the club, which probably isn't likely at all.

let me tell you somethings about Yaya Toure since he is playing for my favorite team, Greek champs Olympiakos. He is very good with the ball in his feet. When we got him, his brother called him "a new Vieira" but this comparision is very wrong because Yaya is not a typical defensive midfielder. He doesnt tackle a lot and he lacks explosiveness BUT when he tackles he is very effective because of his long legs. He is very strong and the best part of his game are his passes. He can touch the ball with all parts of his foot and make any kind of passes/crosses. He is a very good header, a great shooter as well. He also scored a couple of times by free kicks (very stylish hits for an African player). The only reason he doesnt score that much is because in front of him in the field we play Rivaldo as an attacking midfielder.
About the comparisions with Diarra, since Diarra also played in Greece when he was younger. I can tell you that Toure is much better than what Diarra used to be and has much more potential. If he is as professional as Diarra has been then I have no doubt he would be a much better player than Diarra.
According to greek media, Arsenal made a 12m euro bid which was turned down (According to greek media of course). Lyon tried to get him last January but the 7m euro bid was turned down as well. We might sell him after the World Cup to get as much as we can, but I believe he will be sold next summer (probably to premier league team since they tend to overpay). His manager is a pain in the ass and owns 25% of the player.
As I have seen him playing a lot of times, I wasnt impressed by what he did against Argentina, he was just good for 20 minutes. One of his games this year, was against Real Madrid in the last day of the CL group stage where he litteraly dominated the field.
here is a pic of him in a free kick. click here (http://www.greeksoccer.com/news/data/upimages/aigaleo-olympiakos-2005.jpg)
btw, except form Kolo Toure and Yaya Toure they also have a younger (19 year old) brother who is a big, tall striker.
itali players:
impressed:
prilo (wow was amazing a real star, playmaker on the midfield! never let this 1 go)
de rossi (we really need to buy this 1)
luca toni (worked hard, really motivated)
grosso(played solid+ attacking skillz)
weak:
perrota
gila
pitty barzagli didn't played :s
I disagree with pretty much everything you've just put there Prifess.
De Rossi was good, but not great. Perotta played a fantastic game, he did all the ugly work that allowed Pirlo a little more room and time on the ball. Perotta ran up and down throughout the match and was one of Italy's best players. Again, Toni was good but he disappeared for parts of the match and Grosso wasn't as good as his club form, he didn't go forward as much as he usually does which in turn allowed more of a threat on his side of the pitch.
i thought italys best players were pirlo, toni, cannavaro, nesta and de rossi (but to a lesser extent) ... the worse one was zaccardo

I agree with Jim. De Rossi was pretty average IMO yesterday - I am guessing he was just a bit too nervous for his own good. He was late on tackles, caught out of position and looked a bit out of sorts in general. Perotta played very very well but I guess that's the fate of the hard-working players - their contribution sort of remains unnoticed.
Also, Toni did play very well but i don't see what did he do more than Gila for instance. They both had a couple of chances and missed them both. As for Toni's shot in the crossbar, well it was Gila I think wo flicked the ball to him and made that happen. All in all, I just don't see what Toni did more than our Gila to warrant this difference in after-match remarks - Gila was crap, Toni was magnificent - that came from some people here ... cough Egoistka cough :guw:

I think Zaccardo played better than he usually does - no own goals, no errant shots at Buffon's goal or anything like that :diablo: . But still, you are right - he was the weakest link on the field and that's been the case in most of his games for the NT.
Just don't know what is it with Lippi that he trusts Zaccardo more than Oddo for instance.
yeah but look at the ghana attacks, most came from his side of the field, he was caught out of position on a number of instances and its not like he was helpful going up the pitch
The Nesta/Canna defense was great. Totti first seemed to be out of it, but his passes when playing on one-touch was sublime. Pirlo was great, except blowing some counterattacks with bad decisions, recuperated and won more balls than anyone else. De Rossi was no more than okay, Perotta did great work, but lacked final product. Italy badly need to get Zambrotta back. Gila had problems playing with Toni, while both failed to deliver, Toni played better.

Toni had more balls outside the box.
de rossi came late in some tackles- but i've seen him other times n he's a must get.
Perotta did the gattuso stuph- he does have more technique though.
pirlo was great, totti wasnt too bad.
The WEAKEST links were the defensive wings. Zambrotta and Oddo should/must be there. But what pissed me off is tht italy went n defended!!! even if Lippi seems to have brought a new type of play to italy he still does what italian coaches have been doing for 40 yrs- it pisses u off, seriously. If italy just continued attacking they'd get 3-0, and its the only way italy can even conisder thinking of trying to beat brazil.
i'm gonna have my eyes on Lahm- he's been good, and will be seeing Torres (romours say we r close to getting a deal:))
you want them to attack when theyre 2-0 up? ... this italy team is different from other teams because they play smart, attacking when ur up is not the right thing to do, defending is... but at the same time they have to be able to counter attack dangerously and this what makes this squad better than the previous ones, the old squad used to score a goal and just sit back and defend and once they concede a goal everything turns bad... i like the way this team is playing and i think we can beat brazil
Based on Brazil's performance today.. I really think we can.

Have any one started talk about Pablo Aimar??? he seems available in the market as Valencia wanna offload him. He seem is a good player but always been in consistance over this few years. When Banitez is in Valencia leading them to their spanish tittle n UEFA he is their main key player( attacking midfield) Maybe he also can be a sub for kaka..( I know that he is not a first 11 for Argentina, but he is great if in form)
Some news form www.goal.com n had been for few days in some of the soccer web
Atletico Discard Aimar Option Atletico Madrid will not be signing Valencia playmaker Pablo Aimar.
The Argentinian had reportedly been offered to the Calderon club by the Ches who are desperate to sign Spanish international Mariano Pernia.
But Atletico coach Javier Aguirre does not see a player of Aimar’s type as top priority as he would rather sign a more physically imposing midfielder.
Atletico may yet sell Argentina-born Pernia, who has only just joined from Getafe, as a good World Cup would see his value increase.
Atletico’s Gabi is another player Valencia would like to sign although he is not such a priority for coach Quique Flores as Pernia.
too fragile for italy IMO
Put atention on Rodrigo Palacio, when he pics the right shoes, and doesnt slip everytime he tried to get the ball like this saturday, you'll be impressed.

Agree on Palacio. he is indeed a very interesting player. Quite versatile up front I think. Could play atacking mid and a wing in a 4-3-2-1 formation.
Aimar is a marvelous player but seems to be very fragile physically as he is constantly injured and most of the time he is playing, he's either recovering his form or about to get injured again.
I think we missed on a great opportunity to sign a great player for a relatively bargain price - Rosicky is going to Arsenal next season and I think he would have been the ideal player to replace Rui and take some of the load off Kaka's shoulders.

I thought Arsenal bought Rosicky for about £8 million, i'm not sure how that's much of a steal.
I thought Senna played well today, i've mentioned him before, but he's been impressive for Villareal and although not extravegant he certainly does his fair share of running and is very good on the ball. I don't know how much Arsenal paid for Rosicky but that was the best moment possible to buy a player of his quality for a very low price - Borussia is cash strapped and need to sell, the player has been going through a pretty bad and anonymous period for quite sometime now (not because he lost his quality but because the whole club/team is shattered) and that lowered his price at least 2-3 times what it would have been under "normal" circumstances. IMO, for a player like Rosicky (the one from 2-3 years back) playing in a club like Milan, if other clubs would want him, negotiations could well be starting from 30mil or so. And he is proven himself in Germany, in NT, and in CL - he isn't some young talent that could easily turn into an expensive flop, but a proven player at a pretty young age.
Anyway, this one goes as a missed opportunity in my book.

why unavailable? I am a bit lost here - torres is still where he's been for the past 3-4 years and hasn't signed for any team, at least not yet. We were discussing the situation around Rosicky who signed for Arsenal after his supposedly certain move to Atletico fell through (The spanish side couldn't give bank guarantees for the transfer fee)
I know why you felt lost in there.
I merely was asking a question whether he is or he is not available?
I think he would be a great investment too.

Oh, I see. he is still at Atletico but will probably leave this summer.
After yesterday's game, I am all for signing Torres. He had a superb game. I was just thinking---if indeed we sign him, what an irony yesterday's game would represent---Milan's past, Shevchenko struggling to touch the ball, and Milan's future Fernando Torres scoring a beautiful goal....Okay, back to reality now :)
It's not really his fault that he didn't get the ball.. his midfield really didn't do much to help.

what? u gotta be kidding, spains midfield was what won the game yesterday, they were unbelievable
I didn't recognize shevchenko in this game he was lost in spain defender :p1510:
that is what he have to deal with without AC Milan.
Yes, my friend... but it seems that our cheerful folks of the 'shinny happy people / everything is fine, nothing is wrong' pack thinks we didn't need to reinforce our midfield, 'cause Seedorf certainly has played his finest season so far and we doesn't need to replace Rui Costa... :dconf:
Hi Mr clueless. The transfer of a backup defender have nothing to do with possible transfer in midfield and even less about transfers other clubs have done.

Which Torres are you talking about? Fernando Torres of Spain was man of the match and is always a threat to any defense. Let's sign him! :pr115:
any defence?? u mean the ukranian defence which did nothing to stop spanish attacks... hes nothing special, he can be better, but at 35 million id rather spend it smartly elswhere
I hate Olympiakos but Toure is according to his comments. He was very good at the start of the season but then he fall down because media were always praising him a lot. He wasnt good against Argentina, Pirlo is much much better for that job. You ask for players, a great player is Saviola, he belongs to Barcelona, Raikard doesnt want him, his contract expires at the end of the following season but i dont know if he fits to Milan. Galliani every season say that we will not spend much on trasfers, as far as i remember the last he said it we bought Nesta and Rivaldo, although the brazilian was good only for the awful Greek championship.

Argentina were magnificient vs S&M (6-0). The whole team played just great with lots of creativity and movement up front. Several players caught the eye - Riquelme, maxi Rodriguez, Saviola. Crespo also played very, very well. Heinze was very solid in CD and lets not forget he's been playing mostly at LB for PSG and ManU. Sorin also had a solid game, as usual.
Tevez and messi impressed too but they would be more or less unatainable targets at this moment.
Abondanzierri was basically the only player that didn't win any admirations for his goal was rarely threatened and he had to watch almost the entire game from a safe distance ;)
Waiting for Argetina - Holland :)
I WANT TEVEZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Berlu go for this kid! Did you see his goal vs. SMO? amazing !
Tevez please :nana:
Even though our left side is really strong, i think Sorin for left-back would be a great option. The way he tackles and drives the team on is fantastic, i think a bid of about £8-10 million would tempt Villareal.
Carlos Tevez would definetly be my first choice for replacing Sheva, although I wouldn't mind Torres :)
zlatanov
16-06-2006, 10:34
Yeah, but how attainable he would be? Chelski are rumoured to have had a bid of 30-35+ mil euros refused by Corinthians. And if he leaves, Chelski would most probably have a 1st option on him.
For this type of money we could get several top players like Saviola, Cassano, Maxi Rodriguez, etc.
I would expect Riquelme and Sorin to be easier to get this time around as Villarreal will not be in CL next year and that will be a big financial blow for a team like theirs. I would be surprised if missing out on 15+mil euros won't hit them hard.

RVN, Drogba, Fat Ronnie, Toni - NO!!!
Not Cassano :( A player who cant start for Real certainly doenst deserve to be Sheva's heir !

I honestly thought Tevez was superb when he came on. I really didn't think he gave away the ball too much, once or twice yes, but it was near the opponents goal as Argentina continued to attack.
I've been wanting him for a few years, but I don't have my hopes up unless Berlu and Galliani have already managed a special coup.
Messi for me was about as good as Tevez, the 2 linked well and really I believe both (or at least Tevez ahead of Saviola) should be starters.
Well Saviola's performance this game was sub-par.. but that won't kick him out of the starting lineup. He played rather well last match.

not sure what you mean but Saviola was MoM until he got subbed along with Maxi Rodriguez. Saviola didn't score but created the 1st and 3rd goal (both scored by maxi Rodriguez) and if he was subbed it was only because Pekerman wanted to give Tevez a chance as well with the result being 3-0 for Argentina.

The player that really impressed me was Didier Zakora from the Ivory Coast. Very good player is physically strong, has alot of pace and a great shot on him and wins alot of balls in the midfield reminds me abit of Essein. He would be the perfect partner for pirlo.
The times when Tevez did lose the ball were the times when the pass to him made him stretch for the ball, which when you look at it isn't his fault. He was buzzing as soon as he came on, wanted the ball, came deep to look for it, was full of running, he had an excellent cameo appearance.

but also let's not forget that by the time tevez came in, S&M have already raised the white flag after being already 3-0 down and soon they were left with 10 men. it's hard to believe that a team in this position would be a serious hurdle for any good player, who's highly motivated to win a starting place in the team.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind at all having Tevez at Milan but at the current moment with Corinthians not willing to sell and putting a pricetag on him in the 30-40+ mil region, and Chelski being first in line to get him, it's highly unlikely that we'd go for him. Plus, to be honest, doing so would be plain bad business as there are a number of players out there, several in the Argentinian team alone, who would cost a mere portion of that money and will still provide us with quality options. Argentina didn't need tevez today to trash S&M, did they?

BARCELONA, Spain -- Argentina striker Javier Saviola has been told he is not wanted by Barcelona, the Spanish champions have confirmed.
Saviola is under contract at the Nou Camp until the end of the coming season but has spent the last two years on loan at Monaco and Sevilla.
Barca manager Frank Rijkaard has no plans to keep the pacey forward, who is currently preparing for his country's second World Cup match against Serbia and Montenegro on Friday, and will either sell him or agree another loan move.
The European champions' sports director Txiki Begiristain told the club's official website: "The situation with Saviola is closed, he does not interest us and I think that is quite clear.
"We will have to look for the best solution for both parties when the World Cup finishes," he added.
Begiristain also admitted Eidur Gudjohnsen's signing from Chelsea this week may not be the last new arrival at the Catalan club this summer.
He added: "I cannot say categorically that we are not going to have any more new players because it is our responsibility to always keep an eye on the market."

Hmmm... sounds tricky.
None of the fwds mentioned above are in the same class as Sheva. Sheva's heir is Gilardino. He is the best pure forward out there in terms of scoring skills. Torres is too inconsistent, he has not taken la liga by storm, while at the same time, we haven't had much luck with players from La Liga. Saviola has played very well this world cup, but I am always reticent about world cup transfers. Last WC, Ilhan from Turkey, Diouf and Coly from Senegal, were some of the best players, yet look at where they're at now. Saviola never fullfilled his promise at barca, and he was not that great with sevilla this past season. Sadly, there is no one as good as Sheva out there, but a player like Ibrahimovic seems to be the best fit to me. He knows Serie A, and his skills are compatible with those of Kaka and Gilardino. If we can get Crespo to serve as the 4th fwd, and have gila, pippo, ibra, and crespo, with kaka, Gourcuff, pirlo, and Clarence, we will be ok in the offensive department. If the "Calciopoli" investigation ends soon and we are not punished, meaning we stay in A and play champions this coming season, then we need a forward who can adapt quickly to the team and to Serie A, which is the toughest league in the world. I think that's why in the end, Berlusca and Galliani will go for a Serie A fwd. The only other fwd who can replace sheva in terms of scoring, is Trezeguet. Will be interesting to see if we can get him if Juve is demoted. Should be our most interesting transfer season in quite some time.
i want the whole argentina team and i love this zokora guy, if we cant get diarra then get him

Actually, Saviola was great in his first, and only I think, season at barca. But after the arrival of Rijkaard, for some reason Saviola fell out of favor with the new coach and without any clear explanation was loaned out to Monaco and then to Sevilla. The point is that he's proven he can play for a big club like barca. As for him not being overly impressive at Sevilla, well, that shouldn't be a surprise for a player who's been having more or less a nomadic lifestyle and hasn't been able to settle in one and the same club for 3 years now.
Riquelme never really fit Barca style and never met the expectations they had for him but that doesn't mean he's not a great player.
A huge plus about Saviola, apart from his abilities, is that he would be much cheaper than his realistic market value due to the fact that Barca are basically looking for a quick way to get rid of him.
i would love to see saviola here, but in place of amoroso, shevas replacement should be more similar to him
I have nothing against Saviola as a player except that he is one of those players who breaks your heart because you always expect more out of him. Actually Zlatanov, Saviola played at Barca from 2001 until 2004. In 105 appearances, he scored 47 goals. Good record but not world class, and certainly not Sheva's heir. I would highly doubt that management would go for this type of player. I still think one amongst Ibrahimovic, Suazo, Trezeguet, or Torres, will most likely be a milan striker next year.

Tevez and Saviola dont belong to the same class. Obviously there are money reasons, but we lost our GUY, icon, and we need a top flight striker to replace him.
Saviola isnt that guy, Tevez although he isnt there, he has a great shot at it. So he should be our guy. Too bad he would probably be Sheva's heir, but in Chelsea.

Wait a minute here... in his first season at Barcelona, Saviola played up front next to Kluivert and he scored 17 goals.
In his second season, Van Gaal came in. Van Gaal took him out of the starting 11 and played him out of position (usually as a sub). Van Gaal was sacked and Antic came in and gave more opportunities to Saviola (and Riquelme). Saviola finished the season with 13 league goals scored, great number if you think of what happened with Van Gaal.
The next year, Rjikaard came in. He used only one striker but when Kluivert got injured, Saviola came in and scored 15 times in primera division. He scored 45 times in 84 league games (25 of them came in as a sub) and another 11 goals in 20 games (europe and spanish cup).
Saviola is a proven goalscorer in Europe, Tevez is not. He is just 24 years old and his price is a bargain for his talent.
He is a great player, very fast, can play as a winger and as a striker (like Etoo in Barcelona), and I believe he would be great next to Gila (for the right price which according to reports will be very low for his value).
Saviola was never given an extended run as a starter and I think Barcelona gave up to him very early.
DOES THE NAME GIOVANNI ELBER TELL YOU SOMETHING?

well, call me cheap but I think now is the moment to get Cassano and/or Saviola. These two, under normal circumstances, would cost 20+ mil each. Now, we could have them BOTH for something like 10-15 mil.
I think this is an opportunity that shouldn't missed as they are two young players of exceptional quality available at discount price. Even if we do go for a star-striker, an expensive one that is, I still think Cassano and Saviola should be very seriously considered.
But let's wait and see
Does anyone remember the game against Lazio at the beginning of the 2004-2005 season, at the Olimpico. We had tied Livorno and lost to messina at home before playing Lazio. I believe Lazio had taken a 1-0 lead, and we looked extremely lost, until Sheva manufactured 2 brilliant goals out of absolutely nothing and we wound up winning 2-1. I am surprised we are spending so much time speaking about Saviola, but he isn't that player that can do that for us. Actually the only other player that could have done the same as sheva is ronaldo, and that was 20 pounds ago. I love gila, and I believe he will be great at milan, but nobody can ever replace sheva. His skill set is/was unique. I think we need a stronger player than Saviola, who can adapt quickly to Serie A, if we are to mount a serious challenge in Europe.

I am not sure that you, or anyone else in that matter, could say for sure what Saviola could do for us or what he can't. Plus it' not like Sheva did that on a regular basis or anything. You can't just pinpoint one or two games and based on that judge his overall importance for the team. one could easily say that if it was Saviola and not Sheva in that 119th min of the CL final vs Liverpool, we would have won that game 4-3, for instance.
One thing's for certain, Saviola is a great talent, who would be available at a very low price and we do not have a player with his characteristics; what is certain is that he is player who, when given the chance, proved himslef at barcelona; apart from that, what he would be able or not to do for us is pure speculation.

Ibra's WC performances just plain suck but i do believe that he could improve tremendously at Milan.
As for Miguel, he's having a great WC so far but after Euro 2004 it's hardly been a secret that he is a very capable RB, Cafu-style. Still, we probably missed the chance to get him for a good price when he signed for valencia from benfica at the beginning of last season. the transfer fee was around 6-8 mil euros, I think. Now, after the WC, he would be much more expensive although I doubt valencia would be willing to sell at all.
You are right Zlatanov, I am only speculating here, but so are you for that matter, unless you have inside information that none of us have. I may be new to these forums, but I have been reading them for a while now, and realize that you tend to dwell on the negative in your opinions. Sheva, like him or hate him, scored over 170 goals for milan by the age of 29. He had 2 valid goals dissalowed in champions league finals (2003 against Juve and 2005 against Liverpool). He did miss a pinpoint chance in extra-time against dudek, and you are right maybe someone else would have scored it. Maybe Tomasson for that matter could have scored, but does that mean I would take Tomasson over Sheva. You do the math. I don't like how Sheva left, but I will not belittle his achievements in Milan over a 7 yr span. If you think Sheva was not that important, then check who scored in the 2003 semis and 2005 quarters against Inter, who had valid goals dissalowed in 2 finals and one against barca this yr, who put 4 past Fenerbahce back in November in a must win game. Who led us to the scudetto with 24 goals in 2004, who scored the tying goal in Munich this yr, and those are just a few examples off the top of my head. Give us a Van Nistelroy who has scored in big games or someone like that before mentioning a guy who can't even carry sheva's jockstrap.
zlatanov
17-06-2006, 09:50
you completely misunderstood my opinion of Sheva. if you've been reading the forums, you should know that I am one of the few here who wished him good luck rather than breaking his legs or something like that, when he left for Chelski. I just gave you an example how easy it is to find a "bad" moment for every "great" moment in a player's career, even if that player is Shevchenko.
And no, I am not speculating as Saviola has proven himself in Barca - at least when he wasn't beeing dropped at the whim of the coaches. he had one season at barca when they treated him decently and he ended up their top-scorer or at least became a vital part of the attack. After that he was thrown around like lost baggage and you can't expect him to live up to his potential in such situation.
What you speculate is that he won't do well at Milan. What I say is that he a striker proven in Europe (not just La Liga but CL as well). Whether he would set Serie A on fire or not, that's yet to be seen, but that's a risk with ANY striker coming from abroad, isn't it? What I say is that he is talanted player who would be available for at a bargain price and ulike Torres or whatever striker you have in mind he won't cost us 30+ mil euros (and those strikers are under the same "threat" of not making it in Serie A).
A speculation would be to say that Tevez - a great talent, but also someone who is yet to be tested in European football - will definitely sub Sheva at Milan. But I am not saying that ... in fact, go back and read my words again, and see for yourself whether I said something speculative at all, something that was based purely on ASSUMPTIONS alone.

Just finished watching Italy-USA and I still wonder for how long would Lippi go on with that disastrous "Zaccardo" experiment of his. the guy is simply lacking class and ability to play at this level and has had not one or two embarrassing moments in what is a pretty short NT career. The own goal he scored today was something simply inadmissable.
As for De Rossi, if this guy ever plans to get his sorry-butt out of Roma, he'd better teach himself a good deal of class and discipline before that. What he did today not only put the whole team in a difficult position but also was a rather disgraceful act. these things may pass at Roma and Serie A but they won't work at a WC or CL.

Azzuri fans,
Nobody is happy with last night result but let us use our rational thought...
1. De Rossi elbow is UNFORGIVETABLE !!! This young guy must learn how to control his emotion, fighting hard but never use elbow to hurt the opponents. Best teacher for him might be Gattuso...see him play....hard play...carzy fighter but still use his brain not to hurt ithers and moreover make the entire team loose the confidence with his stupid elbow.
2. The Zaccardo's INCIDENCE...is something that every player could make during their career. If you watch the incidece very carefully then it is very obvious that he wants to clear out the ball but UNLUCKILY he hit the ball not with his foot but his calf and made the ball goes wild onto Buffon's net. I personally feel very sorry with this....No player wants to commit suicide like what haoened to his effort to clear out the threat from a US player in front of him. This is purely a unexpected disaster.
3. Why our 10 men couldn;t beat the 9 men Americans??
In a game which is very tense and tough like last night..the emotions of the players is very crucial..the players don;t play using their rational capability but with emotion to score as soon as they can and this made them very depressed and they never realize this but try to play very nervously and not stay calm and use proper strategy how to penetrate and score....
The game is not over yet and not the end for Italy....Ceska looses their confidence and many important players against Ghana...My prediction is that Italy will beat Ceska and Ghana would win over USA. If my prediction is correct then Italy will still be the group winner and Ghana shall meet Brasil.......
GHANA vs BRASIL...this is very interesting game to watch....how power and stamina of Ghana would play against the highly technical players of Brasil but likes to dance instead to score on the pitch :w154:

i think most Azzurri fans like me want to see the best team possible on the pitch, and players like Zaccardo dont inspire confidence, he hasnt got enough experience... Lippi should have included Panucci, and Oddo should be playing right back, he has been brilliant this year...
i can see bringing iaquinta on for speed might work, but he only scored 2 goals from open play last season.. its a joke that he is starting ahead of inzaghi.. inzaghi has great positioning, and is a nightmare for defenders...
plus i just didnt like the mentallity of the american players either..... The Czech reb might be different, they might let Italy play a little..
before the game started i said wtf is zaccardo doing there, im surprised he was called for the NT in the first place, the guy has to do something scary every game he plays in and hes not NT material at all... and i was right, he scored a ridiculous own goal and i think lippi should be blamed is italy dont go through and he plays vs czech, its time oddo gets a chance or atleast play grosso at LB and zambrotta at RB

I agree, Italy did not have the best of games. But credit has to be given where it is due. I thought the US played very well. They more than made up for the lack of experience at this level with sheer grit and determination. I think we were lucky to come away with a draw. De Rossi's red card was surely deserved, but I really have reservations about the US's two red cards. A less "card-happy" referee would have meant 10 vs 11 for Italy for most of that game.
I also dont think that Zaccardo has enough quality to start for the azzurri, and I think the most regrettable substitution was to bring on Del Piero. He seemed slow and didnt seem to make too much of an impact. I would have preferred to leave Toni on the pitch. As for the midfield, I think Italy is relying too much on Pirlo and Totti. When Totti was taken off, we had no other options. Everything just came through Pirlo and we became too predictable. Oh well, it seems like high drama and Italy go hand in hand. Let's hope we beat the Czechs and qualify top of the group---meeting Brazil in the second round would be a nightmare!!

Agreed. But if you had a choice, would you rather play Brazil or Australia/Croatia/Japan in the second round?
And besides, for the neutrals, it would be a shame if one of Brazil or Italy were to go out so early in the competition.

I have a feeling that Brazil will switch gears once they go out of the groupe stage. Also Pereira seems to be an intelligent man and has probably realized by now that he can't play Adriano and Ronaldo together, especially when both of them just plain suck in their current form. Robinho would probably soon get a starting role and Brazil would look much more dynamic up front.
at this point, with the injuries mounting for the squaddra and the imminent De Rossi suspension, Lippi should play Oddo and Zambrotta on the wings, with Nesta and Cannavaro. The mid should be comprised of Gattuso, Pirlo and Camoranesi, since Perrotta is a little hurt right now. Totti will continue leading the front line with gila, and I would prefer seeing Pippo instead of Toni. Toni misses too much and has never played at this level. We are reaching the no-joke stage of the competition, and who better to have than Inzaghi at this stage.
On another note, I think Brazil will be fine, and no matter what Argentina has done so far, Brazil is still the overwhelming favorite to win the cup, however, call me biased, but I think Parreira should have called serginho. I know Carlos because of reputation will start, but I think Sergio, especially the last 20 mins, would have been a devastating weapon for the Selecao. But then again, this is coming from a Milan fan.

Forget all comparisons with Shevchenko, man, the ukrainian is the best striker of it's generation, so we must judge each player for his own qualities, not comparing with Shevchenko.
on the right back stakes does anyone else think Husev (or Gusev, I've seen both names, I think Gusev is the spelling in ukranian) looked really good down the right flank for ukraine?
maybe not the best at defending but neither are Cafu or Serginho and both have prospered at us.

yeah, I liked Gusev too but that guy Kalinichenko also played very, very well, I think. He was #19 (?), the one Sheva passed the ball to for the 4th goal. he did great work in midfield both defending and creating the attacks, has a great powerful shot too.
I think Kalinichenko was voted MoM for today's game.

19-06-2006, 16:43
Well, the attacking role is to me the most important function of LB's and RB's.
A full-back's primary role is to defend, not attack. They need to be able to tackle well, be organised, disciplined and smart enough to know when to push up with the cb to create the offside trap. If they can't do those things then it's pointless them being a fullback, they may just aswell be a winger.
As we have no width in our team, the full-backs are the most important to us, but they still should be able to defend first and attack second.
I think Kalinichenko popped up on the left at one point and smacked a viscious shot that just clipped the cross bar with his left foot. If that's the same guy, then he did indeed look pretty good. The ITV commentators made a bit of a song and dance about the guy who came on to replace Shevchenko at the end. The U-21 player, i don't remember his name. Maybe he's one for the future.
I'm sure Trabelsi had accepted to join Inter, but if he's still at Ajax and on a free, then why not go for him ? He's 29 and looks in great shape. Plus he'd save us a few million trying to get Oddo.

the one that made Puyol look funny at Tunisia's goal? I don't think he has the necessary consisitency for this level of football. Definitely has the talent but he showed it in one or two moments throughout the whole game and that's hardly enough to make it in Milan.
Anyway, I think he plays in Troise (sp?), French league, so I doubt he would cost that much.

Disagree. Klose is not a bad striker, but he is no Sheva replacement. If you want to look at Germany strikers, then Podolski might fit the bill, at least in terms of his position (I havent seen enough of him, dont know if he is good enough). Klose would be good as a target striker, although I think our target men--Gilardino, Inzaghi are far better.
but he drifts out to the right just like sheva does, lets face it, sheva isnt the best controller of the ball, im not saying hes bad, but hes not a loosey goosey (ala school of rock) and I think klose can be a good replacement, he also plays for werder who have a fast type of attacking football meaning he can be a good replacement

I thought Tevez did really well tonight, as he dominated much of the Argentine game and really had to be the attack, as others weren't performing to their capability or he had no one to really play off of. I found it strange how Peckerman wanted him to take Crespo's role, as he's a different player.
Also had a few half chances which he was a little unfortunate he didn't score.

one thing i noticed is how quiet Ronaldinho is, i mean the guy is a big show off, he has got alot of skill, but sometimes he should pass the ball and set people up instead of doing some crazy thing with the football. Kaka is great, he has skill, but he doesnt need to show off about it... he runs all the time... if it wasnt for him Brazil would be struggling....

Just that maybe ronaldinho have won the world player of the year twice and his stepover m fancy dribbling that make him so famous n been like also with his goofy smile..

I really wish we could maybe go for him seeing as Lyon are trying to sell Diarra for so much money, or not sell him at all. I cannot imagine great Pirlo will be able to perform if we have a DM like Yaya Toure. He is not exactly as good as Gattuso as a ball winner, but he is only 19 (?), and he is a good ball-winner. Agree, dull match, though credit to MVB on his ability to almost completely nullify Argentina (with Tevez only really looking a real threat).
I wasn't impressed by Messi last night tbh, and agree completely that for all the little tricks and stuff, there was no substance. I was frustrated at his selfishness too, as for a creative talent, he wasted some fair opportunities to really hurt the Dutch side with a good pass. He should become a star in the future, but he needs to develop some areas of his game, especially if he intends to play Serie A football.
Another who I think is overhyped is Riquelme. His technical ability is good, in that he has good control and can pick out some great passes, but he needs time and space to really hurt opponents and rarely is able to really stamp his mark and dominate a game as a player in his role should be doing. Have a man marker or tight zonal marking on him and his performances drop a lot.

The Czechs played pretty well when they were 11 vs 11 but when they say that a team is as strong as its weakest link, they got it spot on - what a stupid, unnecessary foul by Polak on Totti for the czech's 2nd YC in 10 or so minutes. After that the Czechs were more or less dead meat and Italy comfortably controlled the game till the end.

comfortably? i would think not quite so. the italian defence was breached a few times, meterazzi and cannavaro doesn't seem good enough.
Gatusso did very well indeed, sometimes he move so back until he is right in front of buffon when cannavaro and metarazzi MIA.
pirlo is godly, he control the game very well, he provide all the nice passes and lead in all the attack. In midfield, i hope that De Rossi will replace Jankulovski. I don't think De Rossi should not be judged based on his performance against U.S.A. I think he is a quality player. Sneijder can replace Seedorf. Seedorf is past his glory days. Sneijder can be a good back up.
In attack, Vucinic can replace Amoroso. After all he is cheaper as Lecce is relegated. As for Sheva's replacement, Torres or Tevez can fill his shoes. I hope that Milan make their moves after the World Cup

I don't think salcido is a good choice, we need a player of world class, to be able to replace Maldini...

the mexican #7 was pretty good.. he caught my eye several times with his ball control and dribbling
zinha, hes originally from brazil
new additions:
- miguel, RB from portugal, very capable replacement for cafu

well, zokora seems on the verge of joining Tottenham so I guess we could scrap him from the list of possible recruits.
Miduel has been excellent for a couple of yeras now but we missed the chance to get him before his move to Valencia, now they would ask for lots of money, provided that they wanna sell at all as they are trying to build a team capable of winning La Primera again.

yea Zokora is going to be a Spurs player for as little as 8.5m, wow. I agree that Miguel is good, but I think Alves is better. Is it true that Seville bought a new RB instead of him? Hinkel?
zlatanov
25-06-2006, 20:13
yeah, Sevilla bought Hinkel, which implies that Alves is more or less a Liverpool player already.
Everytime Liverpool come to an agreement on a price for Alves, Seville keep bumping up the fee and if latest whispers are to be belived, Benitez is threatening to pull out of the deal altogether.
It's a similar thing to the Simao deal from Benfica, a price was agreed and then the club kept increasing it.
Benitez is not one to be messed around with in transfer deals, if he feels that Sevilla are just wasting his time he will pull out. If that's the case then maybe there is a chance Alves could become a Milan player after all. He would be expensive though. At least £10 million, so what's that ... about 15/16 million euros.
Miguel yesterday did me a hugh impression. If we dont sign Oddo he is the best option to replace Cafu next season. He is quite skillful as a defender and has great pace in attack. Reminds me a brasilian defender though more a "defender" than Cafu or Cicinho. Miguel in right flank plays almost like Ashley Cole in left.
Lucas Neill...(sorry for him for the non-existent penalty...that cheater Grosso)
he would be a great back up for Nesta...and a real bargain, won't be too expensive. maybe around GBP 5 mil.....

Neill is being linked with a lot of big clubs now so wouldnt be that cheap, Barca are interested as well as a few Premiership clubs. he is a good defender and versatile, he's usually right back for Blackburn, he does occasionally lose control though and has had quite a few red cards.

agree with u .. he is very agresive .. and gets a lot of red a yellow cards .
last season he was one of players with most card .. so i wouldn't like to see him playing in milan !!

How about Phillipe Degen from switzerland?
i think he is awsome player...he is RB i think and can fill cafu`s boots good what do you think?

Muguel from Portugal is great right back.Fast, technic, good pass and in defence is great.Robben could not move when Miguel is there(Holland-Portugal).
Lucas Neill also but he is player that can play good in England not in Italy.
Barzagli from Italy is good central defender and he will be good sign.

Miguel from Portugal would be a better substitute for Cafu

barnetta from the swiss squad, very good player , looks like kaka and his style of playing is like Kaka's, very young only 21. I think big future in front of him.
Gusev, Gusev, Gusev!
he was the best player tonight, since Ukraine put him at right back they have been a far better side. He's fast, skilllful, can cross and he's not to bad at defending. 23/24 years old I believe, proven to preform at world cup level. he's surely got to catch someones eyes.
the only player who played well tonight was bartetta :) the game wasn't good at all :dontkn: .. i wish switzerland win this game but ... the switzerland coach who leavs behrami in bench drives me crazy . he deserves more then that !!

Goalkeep: Shovsky (Shova:-)
and best Euro-under-21 forward Milevsky
I think the latter would be a great investment if Milan decided to approach Dynamo to get the youngster.

okey yes he only did but i talking about that efect not just for a year like nesta did when he got transferd from Lazio to milan yes torres is betther but whats the odds thats milan can aford him all top clubs in europ are fighting over him and when we talk juve zabrotta ? canavaro? what about those players if juve going down i think milan should buy at least one of those two and is trezege a option?
if juve goes down of course we should get one or two players of juventus in our team.. but i read somewhere that if juven next season is going to be in Serie B or C1 .. most of their player would go to Premier League ..
as for Trezeguet i don't know what do say .. we need a fast striker .. one that can create chances .. trezeguet seems to me like a passive striker who can be deangerus only in the air .. using his haed !!

okey what about david saso his a good player im seen him live and a was inpressed his not a passiv striker his the opposit nesta and canvaro as midel difender it sounds great but a like kalatze but canavaro isnt a bad difender
Lucas Neill...(sorry for him for the non-existent penalty...that cheater Grosso)

I agree that Neill did not commit a clear cut foul. But why was Grosso cheating? It wasnt his fault that he tripped over Neill (who was on the ground in his way). It's just one of those things that happen in football. Australia were unfortunate, but that doesnt mean that Italy cheated and won. Dont forget, luck is an important ingredient in any world cup winning team :)

perhaps Milevskyi would be good.. but Shovkovskyi is not a reliable keeper despite having a good match today against swiss.... although if we lose Dida, Shovkovskyi will DEF be better than Kalac
Agree with most of your opinion RT9, but still imo Grosso fell so easily,he knew he had that chance (to do the drama) and costs Aussie dearly....It's not that i support Australia. I support Holland....it's just i'm gutted to see a team lost the way Aussie did

I heard the commentator mention during the Italia game that Torres was about to sign a 25 million deal, but I didn't hear the club he mentioned. Does anyone know about this?

the club mentioned many times that they are interested to transfer Fernando Torres this summer as a replacement for sheva !

If Milan want strong midfield we should get Patrick Vieira again. He is the best defence midfielder (and he can be a good playmaker) in the world.

I like Veira too, but I think he is a little bit too foul prone
we got Pirlo he is good enogh .. so we don't need to transfer a defence midelielder .. if pirlo is going to be advanced next season we got rino to replace him :D

Yeah, I hear you Ario. ANd believe me, I know how disappointed the AUssies are about this defeat. I have lived in Australia for quite a while and know for a fact that they feel extremely hard done by. And you are also right about Italy's "gamesmanship"---sometimes it proves to be the difference between who wins and who loses. I guess that's just how football is....We will see how Italy fares with Ukraine. Too bad Materazzi wont be available. I must say that this is the first time I'd like to see him "shackle" Sheva, and it'll be the first time that I'll be supporting Materazzi---even if he left a few stud marks on Sheva :) Oh well, I hope Nesta recovers, if not then hopefully Barzagli can fill in and do the job.

LOL!! That is hilarious. I know that Torres is over-rated, but Adriano? In terms of being over-rated, I think he makes Torres look tame!!

Fully agree... Adriano is ridiculous, a slow moving 'panzer tank' with no technique and skill.
Don't you see that again? Class never goes away. Milan wants players who produce solid performance consistently. That's what it counts. Zidane and Ronaldo are 2 good examples from this WC.
