View Full Version : Milan ponder Iaquinta option

Milan could turn to Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta as their search for an Andriy Shevchenko replacement continues.
The Serie A kick-off is less than a month away and the Rossoneri have not yet found an alternative for the Ukrainian following his departure to Chelsea in May.
Iaquinta is highly considered by Coach Carlo Ancelotti and could land in Milan for something around £10.7m.
The former Pescara player is being eyed given the problems that the Italian giants are encountering on the transfer market.
The chances of seeing Ronaldinho arrive are thinning out day after day as the Brazilian seems set to extend his contract with Barcelona.
The Via Turati club are also still considering the options represented by Ronaldo and Fernando Torres, but neither of the two seem close to finalising a San Siro switch.
Ronaldo’s return to Italy seems more complicated after Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon said that the player wishes to stay in Spain.
The Fenomeno, who is not Ancelotti’s first choice, is scheduled to meet Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello in the next few days to clarify his position with the Merengues.
While Torres is considered as untransferable by Atletico Madrid and if he were to be sold, the club’s asking price of £28.5m for El Niño is deemed as excessive.
Iaquinta, now a world champion following Germany 2006, would represent an excellent alternative with Milan youngster Marco Borriello set to be included in any possible deal.
The 25-year-old Iaquinta has spent six seasons in Udine where he has netted 44 goals in 145 Serie A matches.
Iaquinta? hhhm.... I don't held high regard of him as a striker, but I do like how Lippi played him against Germany, more of a striker/winger. With the right tactics and chemistry, he could do well in Milan.

Hmm...
Since Ibrahimovic joined Inter, I'm really curious to see how our transfer campaign will end.
Damn it just getting bad to worst, depression is only a few days away, the whole football world is getting world class players and we getting all the rejects, I saw Iaquinta in the WC and he is very average and that’s being kind, Pippo is 100% better then him, the article also says that torres to expensive but If we want world class players then we should part with the cash, its just shows Inter are inspired in the transfer market and that hurts, my patience is wearing thin by the day …….
Another thought is that if we could not find a replacement for sheva then why sell him, the management is turning onto a bunch buttheads, if this is a special gift then I don’t want it.
he's not the type of strikers that we need now ... he's more of the standing strikers, i think it would be better if we got the moving forward type like ronaldo (after regaining form), cassano, or even martins.

Iaquinta is a World Cup winner and a forward with great movement.
I don't think he can adequately fill the hole left by Sheva's departure but he would be a good addition. It all depends on how Ancelotti will use him.

yeah I agree but he wont join us as a 4th striker I dont wont him as a 4th striker here cuze he isn't for banch
:5milan: Sorry to say we're acting a bit desperate in trying to come up with players who will actually sign with us. You know me, the eternal optimist, but this is getting ridiculous. I cringed every time Iaquinta came in during the World Cup; I just wasn't exactly overwhlemed by him. We're in for a troubling season....

is it me or is that something special (debs posting in this section)
anyway i cant stand this guy, my view is the second leg of the ucl is what is standing in out way, once we beat red star i think we have a week, to panic ang sign every 1.lol
Debs, i think you better get on the phone to Angelo (that's his name isn't it ?) and say "Milan fans aren't happy with Iaquinta, sort it out". He'll listen to you and then pass on the news to Braida :D
I don't see the point in spending that much on Iaquinta when Suazo would be available for a similar amount.
:1avs: This has gotten worse and worse...& they’re even considering him as an option. Better for this money to pay for Milan’s fines and legal fees! Or for another stadium apart from Inter!
I don’t expect Milan to sign anyone till after the 2nd leg. They will take that extra step if they have a clearer picture of what’s ahead. But recently, after other club’s signings, our remaining options have been bread crumbs! :5130:

I agree with jim. Personally, I wouldn't mind Iaquinta coming to Milan as he would be a good choice for an alternative striker. He isn't even close to being among my first options but he would still add some speed to the attack, I think. To say it in a nother way, I would prefer Iaquinta to either Boriello or Amoroso.
At this price, however, as Jim said, we could get Suazo and to make a choice between a 10 goal/season man like Iaquinta and a 20 goals/season like Suazo is a no brainer for me.

Even Debs, who really is an optimist, is getting worried... and that says everything, folks! To even ponder about Iaquinta as a replacement for AS is like a bad joke... I guess there's only two options at hand: display ambition and splash the cash on Torres or Tevez / conform to mediocrity and get someone like Iaquinta or (may God forbid that!) Fat Ronnie.
This could be just all talk. We’re getting linked to every single striker out there (good & bad ones…how many so far?) since Milan hasn’t been doing anything. Sports.it is saying Juventus is interested in Iaquinta in case Trezequet leaves. They have been since when Ibra was thinking of leaving.
Iaquinta hhmm, well not that exiting! but he works hard and is pretty fast so maybe he´s not that bad after all.
p.s. to keep things in perspective, he´s good for that kind of money (10 mil euro) but he´s no superstar, but what kind of world class striker can we get these days (please don´t say Berlusconi can get whoever he wants because thats not true anymore) they all seems out of reach

Iaquinta is good and promoising but he i not our solution. I really dont want to sound very pesimistic but this is not funny any more, I always had this idea in my mind that the managament knows what thery doing even if it doesnt look like that, and they proofed me right with Nesta and Gila case, but this year I am getting worried as all of you are. Its true that we didnt have luck against Barca in the semis and with Juve in the scudeto race but I am aware that we didnt play the best football in the world last year, and with Barca, Real and Chelsea getting better and better I am scared, not to mention the - 7 points in the beginig of the season. And we should be aware that neutral people, europe and sponsors are gona loose interest in us after shevcenko departure, and failing to replace him. There is one positive thing that happened this summer and thats, PIRLO ( if he plays as in the WC) he is gonna make the difference, same goes for Rino and Gila. But we need at least one quality striker if we want to achieve the last years level. But I know my excpectation and I know yours and that makes me scared..

He does not know how to control the ball... and he spoils my mood!

Berlusconi according to Corriere dello Sport has no intention to spend big sum this summer. He wants the team to "walk with their own legs", financially speaking.
Just hope he's lying like Moratti "our market is closed" before Ibrahimovic 'cos so far we have just an average team. To fight with AS Roma for the second place.

Actually, I owe Angelo an email, so maybe I should give him a piece of my mind and tell him to forward it to the appropriate people.... :funpc:
and yes, Supreme, I usually avoid this forum especially during the silly season b/c it's totally annoying to see people post nothing but their fantasy signings and fave players that they'd like to see on the Milan squad. and yes, Grenoli....the last couple of murmurings from our camp have gotten me very worried.
Berlo wants the team to stand on its own legs? Well, to rake in the money you have to have a product worth something. Is he possibly angry that we got nothing out of the Shev deal?

I really hope he's only acting 'undercover operation' style, because if he's telling the true... well, the next season will be something way down UGLY for us all... :frustrat:

I really don't see the need to settle for a player. If it means that we must wait until the January window to buy a worthy striker, let's wait. I just don't see why spend that kind of money on a player that really doesn't fill the shoes of the
best striker in the world. Yes, I still consider him the best striker even after the dispicable kiss of the Chelski jersey :5milan:

please no. I'll be out of my job as a mod lol
If we are replacing Inzaghi or Amoroso or Boriello, then yes Iaquinta would be a good addition. But to replace Shevchenko? Have we gone nuts? And I'm really fed up with the "we dont want to spend big" crap. We just got 30M in cash for Sheva. I'm sure that amount is more than enough to get a top class striker. This is really getting ridiculous.

I hear you my friend. I think you and I are both quite nostalgic people---nostalgic for the great, all conquering MIlan sides of the late 80s and early 90s. I have not felt too much excitement and enthusiasm about the current side since the 2002-03 and 03-04 seasons. After the purchase of Kaka, I dont feel that we have reinforced the side with enough quality or with players that can provide some "magic" on the field. Gila was a great buy, but for me, we needed more....Oh well, we just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope Berlusconi comes to his senses. If he is not willing to spend money, we may still be able to win, but maybe not as stylishly as most of us would like :)

On the bulls eye, Rt9: we're badly lacking in MAGIC... it's hard to say, but the side cannot get me spellbound anymore since a very long time ago... I'll never quit Milan, that's for sure, and as I've talked here before, I'm with Milan since the mid 80's, so I know how hard is to support players like Battistini, Maldera, Romano, Novellino, Icardi, Bortolazzi, Wilkins, etc. hehehehe.... but hell, I wanna see a stronger side, and things are not goin' to well...
Tony Soprano
17-08-2006, 02:21
On offense, I think we definitely need more depth. Iaquinta could be a good option as a striker, but he isn't starting material. Not only do we need a striker, but we need a strong group of players in that position. Amoroso and Inzaghi have passed their prime, and Borriello is very inexperienced, so a set of good strikers is needed.
GRE-NO-LI
17-08-2006, 12:04
I also fail to see how we can go on without at least a top class replacement for Shevchenko and an alternative for Amoroso.
You know what; I still fail to see how we can manage to win the Champion League with Kaka` (with Rui Inzaghi and Shevchenko, the latter 2 got injured alternatively), and with defense like "Simic" who was described as 'useless' by some.
I guess it's just the other teams are weaker, then, or of course Milan got lucky.
