Milan are currently searching for a striker who can replace Andriy Shevchenko upfront, with Ronaldo, Drogba and Iaquinta being the likely favourites.

However, in the meantime another player has entered the Rossoneri's shortlist and that is Rafael Sobis.

The 21-year-old is currently playing for International di Porto Alegre after a year with Corinthians.

I have seen him play.Sobis is good, he is quality player, but is a good solution in the long run, but this year I dont see him performing in the highest level.

I wouldn't mind if we got Sobis & Marcelo, adding some good quality youngsters to the side would be good to see.

In terms of football, he is the closest thing to Sheva I've ever seen. The way how he plays, he thinks etc.
Some time ago I thought he was overrated, but now I evaluate his reputation here in Brazil as a fair one. He is fast, possesses high football IQ, can assist, know how to score - specially in big games! - etc.
For a sum about 10 mill any team can hire him and he's just starting his career.

Sobis next on Milan list Wednesday 16 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan are still searching for a striker and have picked out Rafael Augusto Sobis of Internacional Porto Alegre as a possible target.

The Rossoneri have yet to replace Andriy Shevchenko upfront, after his departure to Chelsea, with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Didier Drogba and Vincenzo Iaquinta on the Via Turati club’s shortlist.

Sobis’ name has now been added to that piece of paper after negotiations to bring Ronaldo back to Italy from Real Madrid came to an abrupt halt.

The 21-year-old moved to Porto Alegre after one year with Corinthians and has won seven caps with the Under-21 Brazilian national side.

Sobis impressed with his performance in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Final last Wednesday, when he netted two second half goals allowing Internacional to defeat Sao Paulo 2-1.

Sobis is not a totally new name for Italian football fans after he was paired with an Inter transfer in November 2005.

Massimo Moratti’s club expressed an interest in the player, whom they were apparently willing to offer £7m for, but no compromise could be reached with his Brazilian club.

If we can get this guy then we "beat" Inter this time.... :5inter: :5inter: :5inter:

will we really field a front trio of kaka-gila-sobis though?

I really think given the age of our two other automatic starters we need someone established, aswell as fairly young. torres and tevez aren't much older, but you could be almost sure you could stick them in the first team and get results. this sobis would have to be something special and personally I'm not sure he is.

we need a first choice player, not an exciting prospect.

i think milan should sign this guy time is running out ... time is money ...

Ronaldo thinks hes a hero - but hes a zero

Iaqunita - Just not milans class ...

So its gotta be this guy at 21 he's really young and could make a impact ... plus that Video Suprememilan posted that is one class goal  imagine him doing that in Serie A

I think Sobis is a player we should keep an eye on but don't see Milan getting him now as he could hardly offer something more than Gila or Pippo. He has yet to really prove himself that he is good enough even for the best teams in Brazil let alone a club like Milan and to do so takes much more than several impressive games and nice goals.
i think, at this point, if there is really any Interest from Milan for Sobis, we consider him more of an alternative to Iaquinta and Suazo rather than Ronaldo, Tevez, Torres i.e. Sobis is more of an alternative for a striker we could go for if we do NOT make it in the CL.

Sobis is awesome. Internacional is one step from being Champions of the Libertadores Cup and Sobis is doing GOOD. he scored 2 goals on the first leg against Sao Paulo at the Morumbi (Sao paulo stadium).

I think that's the impression you get from reading all the stories about players being linked. Beware that most of the stuff you read is only rumours, and probably have no truth to it whatsoever.

I don't think they are desperate, only cool and waiting for the right moment to buy the right striker for the right price.

Mystik
16-08-2006, 10:03
Exactly.. also they want to make a WISE decision.. not just buy the first 20-24 year old striker they see. Just have patience..we'll sign a great striker.

I dont know why people think he will be purchased as a fourth striker. I really think he is better than Gila and Inzaghi at the moment. Has anyone been watching Copa Liberatodes this season? he has been sensational. We were also close to getting him in April/May I believe. We should go for him, but not in the expense of Tevez.

Don't you think his size(or lack thereof) will make a difference in his performance in Serie A..?

He's bigger than Tevez or Messi and I don't think most would complain too much about either of them. (Although admittedly there are some here who would find reason to complain no matter who Milan bought.) :5love:

Sobis is one of the best young players in Brazil. I'd be quite happy if Milan were to buy a young player of his ability. :rone:

Warro Bantan
16-08-2006, 11:40
I have no problems with us getting a young player, matter of fact, I think that he could be a good aquisition...this is the very reason why I wasnt adamant on Crespo coming...we need a longer term investment than 29+ year olds can offer.

We need a player that can give us what Sheva gave for 7 years...almost always producing 15+ goals per season...and making assists as well.

This is why personally, Tevez is my 1st choice, since he can both provide, and finish chances...however, I dont know that Sobis can play this role...can he?

Mystik
16-08-2006, 11:45
Well then I have no problem with him coming.. Brazilians generally have a quick style of play which will benefit us on the counter attack. The only thing is.. Kaka + Gila + Sobis in attack.. what happens if he doesn't fit in well ? Gilardino isn't exactly reliable when it comes to firing goals in, especially in CL.

Warro Bantan
16-08-2006, 11:50
Then we take off Gila, and put on Pippo...or we start with Pippo, then put Gila on...I think Gila has a world of potential, we just need patience with him.

If this Sobis can hold the ball, beat players, make assists, and score goals, we may not need a Torres..or a Ronaldo..I would be fine if he is 85% of Tevez´s ability.

zlatanov
16-08-2006, 11:51
Exactly.. also they want to make a WISE decision.. not just buy the first 20-24 year old striker they see. Just have patience..we'll sign a great striker.
that's what I am thinking too. Milan cannot buy every other "phenomenon" that comes out of Argentina or Brazil. Imagine what would have happened if that were the case with all the Aguerros, Cavenaghis, Svaiolas, Luis Fabianos, Freds, Diegos, Robinhos, etc, etc, etc. What is the dif between when all these came into prominence and attracted the fans' attention and this case with Sobis? Absolutely no dif at all.
As Mystik said, it takes some patient scouting and we need to make sure that should we go ahead, we would be doing so for the right player (like Kaka) not just another fan favourite, who has managed several good games in a row. Not only funds but also space on the team is limited - at most 4-5 strikers - so we can't just buy Brazilian and Argentinian talent by the kilo and then throw away whoever has proven to be yet another overhyped product.

Mystik
16-08-2006, 11:57
Exactly. I think our board will make a smart decision on the young players they buy.. just as they did with Sheva when he was 22-23 and Kaka and Gourcuff(whose impact is left to be seen.. but has impressed in training so far). I'll support our board 100% with whatever decision they make.(unless it's Drogba..;) )

Saying that Gourcuff and Bonera have nothing to offer is ridiculous and ignorant. How can you judge someone who you've never seen play? Ever heard the expression "Don't judge a book by its cover?" Well that doesn't even apply here because you've never even seen his cover, whatever it is. This reminds of the Soviet saying "I haven't actually read the book, but..." directed at any sort of dissenting literature. And look what happened to the USSR!

Also, I'm sick of people taling about how great Inter is becoming. They do this every year. And if you think Inter is making a hell of a team, why don't you just support them?

Mystik
16-08-2006, 14:04
Oh jeez.. here it starts. Look.. lemme clarify my position. I believe we SHOULD look for a young replacement for Sheva so that our attack should be good for a good few years down the line. However.. I'm just saying that we should have patience and let our board properly scout out the talent that fits the needs of our team. You look like you'd be satisfied with any young player who has an impressive video on youtube. I'm not saying that Sobis is or is not a good player. I have not seen him in action enough to judge that. All I am saying is that our management is rightfully taking its time in looking for a striker because this striker will probably be thrown straight into the starting 11 and we definitely can't put ANYBODY into our starting 11. Hopefully that clarifies my position.

Now about Ronaldo and Iaquinta. Iaquinta I definitely do not want at Milan. Ronaldo isn't my first choice option but IS a proven goal scorer so I won't cry if he comes. Rick can provide stats to back me up on that one.

(Response to GNL by the way)

Hi Jim,

The thing is. If Milan have signed Gourcuff, is because he did good at the France league. WAIT, FRANCE LEAGUE! gimme a break man, FRANCE LEAGUE SUCK! and you know that.

Now about Sobis. I'm really impressive about you guys don't put your hopes on him. Milan always did good with Brazilians. Yeah, none of those French players ever do anything after they leave France. What ever happened to those guys who used to be so good in France? What were their names? Something like Zidane, Henry, Platini, Cantona? Stuff like that? Those guys were really good in France. Don't suppose any of them ever amounted to much after that though. Anybody know what happened to those guys? :wow:

BTW, I've seen Gourcuff play a number of times. He's pretty damned good. So is Sobis.

And what makes you think that you are someone who could let anyone here know something we already don't? What makes your opinion of a player so trustworthy that once you deam a player AWESOME, this is indeed the case.
btw, there are some other people from Brazil who make their opinion heard and heard with respect without hammering it into other members' heads with empty promises of superior knowledge.
And, if you go back in the posts, you will see that hardly anyone ever said that Sobis isn't a talanted player, a great talent, ot whatever. The issue here is whether being very good for half a season in Brazil is enough of a proof to warrant an IMMEDIATE transfer to Milan because if it were then that means Milan should have bought also players like Luis fabiano and Diego, who are a total failure in Europe so far - this goes twice for LF !!!!
And I am sure that while they were still playing in Brazil there were many others just like you who were willing to come out and say how AWESOME those two were and now look how wrong they would have been ... and mind you, your opinion isn't any more foolproof than theirs.

Oh, and please try to make this the last time you use profanity to underline your point because patience isn't among my greatest virtues. Thanks

But let me remind you that Kaka was also not the phenom he is today. When we signed him nobody expected him to be such a hit. In fact, I'm sure his old club, Sao Paulo never expected this, otherwise his transfer fee would have been much higher and we would have been quite happy to pay it.

Sometimes we just got to take chances. It's a calculated risk. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. We took a chance on Kaka, and won big time. We took a chance on Contra, for instance, and lost. So if this kid is really good, then let's take a chance--give him a shot at Milan and let's see what he can do. There is no better time than the present as we have yet to replace Sheva with a big name striker.

Mystik
16-08-2006, 20:51
Difference: When we signed Kaka.. we had Rui Costa. If Kaka failed.. Rui Costa was a starter anyway so it wouldn't affect us as much. NOW if we do sign this Sobis guy and he fails.. what do we fall back on..? Gilardino(who hasn't found his goalscoring touch yet and Inzaghi who isn't getting any younger ? We can't expect Pippo to save us all the time. I agree we will need to take a risk.. no matter which striker we buy. However we can reduce that risk.. by buying a player that at least has been consistently scoring goals and fits the description of the forward that we're looking for. That I believe is the reason we haven't signed a striker yet. We know we are going to take a risk.. but we want to reduce that risk as much as possible by extensively scouting our targets.

rt9
16-08-2006, 20:57
What you say is true. But wouldnt you also say that Torres is a gamble? He is young and has never scored regularly in serie a. If we spend a fortune on him, could we really count on him to shoulder all the responsibilty for scoring goals? What I'm trying to say is that there arent many PROVEN, experienced strikers on the market at present. There was Crespo and there was Ibra, and they are both gone--you know where. The only strikers available now are young but with great potential---Torres, Tevez, Sobis, etc.... So why not take a chance?

After all GIla, Pippo and SObis is better than just Gila and Pippo, right?

Mystik
16-08-2006, 21:03
Yes I'm saying we should and probably will take that chance. However our management wants to be 100% sure before they make their decision. Obviously money isn't an issue for a team like Milan. If we make up our mind on a player.. and he's DEFINITELY the answer.. we'll get him. Just have some patience.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to answer your question.. yes Torres is a gamble.. an extremely expensive one also. For a striker who doesn't even score much in La Liga.. he's way too expensive. Huntelaar would be better.. but sadly he is cup-tied. At least he has a good goal scoring record though.

But I just want to remind some of you of this fact: if Sobis alone is 1m72 it may bo fine, but if we play Sobis up front (1m72) and Seedorf, Pirlo, Gatuso (1m76 - 1m77) and Brocchi right back (may be 1m75) how do we combat in the air.

comparin' Sobis & Torres is a little strange to me... one has WC experience... has scored goals for his senior national side... as well as in the WC... playin' in a top-flight league... against top-flight opponents... has done well with a mid-ranked team in a top-flight league... while the other has only about 6 months credibility... if gettin' Sobis is a big risk... gettin' Torres definitely isn't a bigger risk...

I totally agree. The only doubt many and I have is that generally speaking, Spanish players haven't really performed that well for us. Torres may or may not do well for us, but we would be taking a big risk if we signed him. As for Sobis, I think he still is to inexperienced for a side like Milan.

Guys, I did want Sobis (rather than Tevez) I just wanted to point out that getting Sobis we must get some of the physical players too, Diarra is that option. If we can field a good combination of the 2 groups: group 1: Pirlo, Seedorf, Gatuso, Brocchi, Sobis and group 2: Kaka, Gourcoup, Diarra, Ambrosini, ... It will be a desaster to field all 5 (Pirlo, Seedorf, Gatuso, Brocchi, Sobis) at once.

Someone here said the match would be kicked off at 2GMT. I started watching it at 3 GMT, and it's 90 already:(, and Internacional was being attacked, so I couldn't see anything of Sobis apart from sitting and crying in the end:(.
Oh, Sleep, I was the one who said that but what I said was that it would start at 02.00 am UK TIme - at this time of year UK Time = BST(Brittish Summer Time), not GMT and BST=GMT+1 ... for most of the year, UK time is GMT, but not in the summer.
Anyway, you didn't miss much. There were 4 goals scored in that game, a RC for Internacional, and some intrigue in the end when SP could have scored a 3rd goal, but overall the quality of the game was pretty poor IMO, I personally expected much more to be honest.

As for Sobis, he didn't score but played very well IMO with fast, incisive runs forward and showed that he is an intelligent player, who is aware that he has a head on his shoulders and not just 2 feet. His speed and running reminds of how Torres plays, only much more purposeful in his actions than the Spaniard, so if it comes to choosing between spending 40 mil on Torres and 10-15 on Sobis, for me the choice is clear.
Still, as ZZZZZ pointed out, Sobis has appeared on the radar pretty recently and has yet to prove that he isn't yet another one-season wonder like so many others. If he manages to keep it up, with a little more experience under his belt he could be indeed a viable option to go for. I do believe, however, that right now, it is a bit too early to see in him the new Sheva as he has yet to prove something - not that he has quality, but that he can consistently show it time and again over a couple of seasons. A little more experience wouldn't hurt either, I guess.

I Disagree with you Zlat. I think That was a great game with many score possibilities. The draw was fair in my opinion and Inter deserve the win for what they did on the first game.

As for Sobis, he didn't scored, but thats pretty much what Zlat said. he played very well, fast and objective, may not be shown but its tough to take the ball from him. With all those strong SP Defenders, he could keep the ball with him most of the time.

yes, this was the final of the Copa Libertadores, so the winner goes on to play Barca - the CL winner for 2006 - in Tokyo this December, I think.
not sure where barca would put him since they play with 1 striker and they already have Dinho, Etoo, Gudjohnsen, Saviola, Giuly etc. and most of these are still pretty young players.

from all that I have read nobody is addressing the facts. Milan this days is becoming stingy with ressources like i have said in all my previous contribution milan is not ready yo do well in the CL , the reson is that the are not ready to make sacrifices with the cash at their disposal to get the best platers that would give young players like kaka hope that the club is not ambitionless in other not to seek greener pastures elsewhere. I have made several frank contributions since i join what i call this oganization , if i may call it so. we are being stingy with cash.

I agree...but after watching Tevez a lot, I just don´t think it´s worth the amount that Corinthians ask. Tevez is a GOOD player with a big HEART, and will be an upgrade at our strike position(like Sobis), but it´s overrated. Besides, Tevez has so much IF´S: always asking permition to travel to Buenos Aires, had brawls w/ 3 teammates...
Regarding Sobis...he´s a good player, but peolple are overrating it´s talents.

Thanks Nirvana!! Nice of you to keep us posted!

While a lot of fans here might think he is too young, etc etc... the fact is, out of the million or so forwards in Brazil, and the half a million playing elsewhere in the world, Dunga chose him to play for Brazil, not once, but twice...so he must be talented, and probably talented enough for Milan.

I would hope that his aquisition doesnt preclude Tevez joining us...

Well, the fact is Kaka wasn't exactly the biggest name in Brazil before he came too. Milan make him into one of the best player in the world currently. I am no expert about european law regarding non-EU players, but I am sure you can do so. Look at the idiots of inter. They got Maicon and Maxwell, 2 brazilians, while last yr, they added cesar and julio cesar if I remember correctly. Tevez, Sobis, Huntelaar, these are all players that are good enough to come to milan. We should buy at least 2 out of the 3 over the next yr or so. Kaka was huge in Brazil before we signed him and if Sobis turns out to be half as successful with us as Kaka is, then i'll be very happy.

I don't believe he's the next wonderkid but he does have potential, which is great. All i'm expecting of him (if we sign him) is that he scores a few goals, works hard and has a bit of spark about him, just like Gourcuff & Foggia.

£7 million is quite alot for him though, maybe we can knock that down a little bit.

Lets hope he's the first of several important signings for us.

GRE-NO-LI

Perhaps not the best guy to replace Shevchenko, but certainly a great purchasing: he's a young (21 years old) and fast striker, who is extremely determinated and has an awesome conclusion. However, he is not the "bomber" type, he still did not developed the "killer instinct" for goal. He kicks very well, knows how to pass thru the defenders, but has a bit to learn about the shortcuts that lead him to the goal. However, one must remember he has been elected Campeonato Brasileiro 2005 best striker, above players like Tevez.

as far as I know, he was voted best player in the Brazilian League in his first season there - and he's Argentinian ;). Also, including his time at Boca, he has been voted several times - 3 altogether, I think - the best player of all of South America (like the Galden Ball for Europe), has won the Copa Libertadores with Boca and all that at 22 years of age.

Mauybe Tevez is realy not as good as we thought? He certainly impressed in World Cup but what else? (Of course, I may be wrong -.-!)

I remember seeing him in a tournament, which i'm pretty sure was the 2004 Olympic games in Athens. He was the star of the show and i'm pretty sure he was top scorer with 7 or 8 goals. Anyway, the point is he stood out then so i'm sure he'll do really well for us.

Anyway, maybe over the weekend we'll have secured Sobis, which will be a nice start :)

this is what cafU have said about SOBIS

MILANELLO - Marcos also covered the transfer market and the possible arrival of compatriot Rafael Sobis: ’I know him well and he’s a really great player, he’s known for what he has done in the Cup Liberadores now but he’s done well and been called up to the national side. He’s a midfielder and support striker, but not an out-and-out striker.’ As for the new Brazil coach, Marcos respects his choice; ’Dunga was a great player, a great captain and give everyone a lift, now he’s looking to bring that to the national side. We have plenty of time and have to respect his choices.’

douse this mean that we will sing TORRES or TEVEZ?????

You´re right. Tevez was amazing in Olimpics...
BUT...Tevez is a BIG head case. Even splited in a teammate in Corinthians. Besides the more than 3 brawls(w/ teammates)...
Tevez is really a good player, but can´t stand his off the field problems...

Brasileiro, I doubt Tevez will bring this "baggage" with him to Milan. He knows that coming to this club, will be a "high-point" in his career, (if not the high point) and as such I doubt he will mess it up due to personality issues.

Also, remember he was on the receiving end of some strong tackles in training, from his own teammates which could (as was the case with Robinho and Graverson) end up in a training ground spat...

[now, I ask you, Robinho vs Graveson is not the fairest matchup in the world, and I certainly wouldnt go around picking fights with a Frankenstein look-a-like..but it shows how easy it is to get caught up in a training ground fisticuff...though I have never heard of that happening at Milanello].

Tevez will come here, (hopefully) and work with some of the worlds best professionals, some of whom I am sure he idolised in his childhood.

I have no concerns about his "personality" issues...and because he isnt Brazilian, he wont be wanting time off to go to Carnival! :D

Sobis: Vengo al Milan (http://sport.alice.it/it/cmc/calcio/200633/cmc_99944.html)
The player himself says that he will come to Milan. They are negotiating the deal and there are only few details to be agreed on for example whether he comes before or after the Intercontinental Cup.

That's an aspect i never thought of. I'd want to take him now, especially if we don't/aren't getting anyone else. But then how often do you get to play in the Intercontinental cup ? Not often. That match isn't until December ( i think ), so i guess it's either now ... or in the January window. It'll be tough on Internacional, but i hope we'll get him immediately.

true, because the intercontinental is a huge deal in south america, much bigger than here.

but I think most south american players understand that, while sometimes moving in july/august is not ideal (in brazil they've just spent the last 5 monthes playing crappy state divisions before the season gets serious with the championship) they know it has to be done to come to europe.

I don't think anyone saw this guy coming.

Wasn't Amoroso one of those players who sacrificed playing in the Intercont. Cup for a transfer to Milan?
I actually hope we get him after the Intercont. Cup because that would mean we would have finished playing the group stage of the CL, should we qualify for it, and Milan management would never risk letting Milan play those CL games without other reinforcements in attack. So, if we do want Sobis, and I suspect we cause he seems to be a very talanted player available for not much money, we would have to invest in another forward by the time Sobis arrives - like Tevez for instance ;) - plus I doubt Galliani sees in a young and not so experienced and established player like Sobis, the IMMEDIATE replacement for Sheva.

yeah, I see what you mean. It's like all we've done this summer is sat around waiting for things to happen so we know exactly what sort of season we're in for.

You dont remember Tevez??? I'll refresh your memory. The last time we played him, he was hurt and didn't played fisrt half.
First half ended Milan 1-0 Boca.
Then Tevez came in the middle of the second half and simply made an inferno the lives our defencemen. Boca equalized(mostly due their improved movement causing trouble to Milan defence) and finally we lost the International Cup in penalties kicks.
By the way, Tevez was something about 17 or 18 years old by the time.
Tevez is for real man.. I pray we sign him.

problem is that with such "episodes" he is hardly making himself more attractive to the Milan bosses and in the end we may very well decide to skip on him, despite his great talant, namely for these incidents, 3-4 already I think, just like we did with cassano.
I am sure that if until now Galliani and co weren't sure about going for tevez, this incident would increase any doubts they might have had 10-fold.

This says Milan is not the only club after him, he has other possibilities "he can't reveal", is this another Inter trick or do I get too paranoid?

This is Sobis' statement as can be read on channel4.com :
quote.
Sobis: "I'm ready for Milan" Saturday 19 August, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brazilian starlet Rafael Sobis has confessed he is on the verge of signing for Milan and cannot wait to get started in Serie A.

“It’s true, the negotiations are advanced and I can’t wait to run to Milan,” the Internacional striker told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.

“I have to admit that I am very enthusiastic about this adventure. All day I have been surfing the Internet so I can find out everything about Milan. I already knew the team, but I’m discovering more about the city itself and it seems perfect for me. I hope everything can be concluded as quickly as possible.”

Sobis would be the replacement for £30m Chelsea man Andriy Shevchenko, joining other Brazilians such as Marcos Cafu, Ricky Kaka, Nelson Dida and Serginho.

“I have heard of everyone in the side, but I’ve not personally met any of them. I am in a tricky position at the moment, as I know talks are progressing well, but there’s nothing official yet. We follow Serie A games in Brazil and know Milan are one of the best teams in the world. My style is very different to yours, though, so I’ll need some time to settle in.”

It’s possible that the Rossoneri will let go of Marcio Amoroso, who arrived in January and barely set foot on the playing field, but he could prove useful as an introduction for Sobis.

“I like to move around off the ball, come back into midfield and make the most of my pace,” continued the youngster.

“What I love the most is running into the box and trying to score. I am a centre-forward, a born finisher. If you want a comparison, then I suppose you could say I resemble the early Amoroso, or perhaps Lyon striker Fred.”

Meanwhile, reports in the same newspaper suggest the road to Ronaldo’s door is still open, as Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani rang the Real Madrid star.

The key to bringing in the £10m rated Fenomeno lies in their Champions League qualification. That will be decided on Tuesday, after the second leg of the preliminary round tie with Red Star Belgrade.

Sobis has been quick to promote his European ancestry before.

Anyway, I'm convinced this could be a fantastic signing. Sobis is young, pacy and with a good eye for goal. Plus, from what I've seen of him (admittedly not in great detail) he is a striker willing to drop deep to pick up the ball, something we lost with the sale of Sheva. Gilardino and Inzaghi don't offe rthat level of link up play.

A young, hungry striker who's just shown his potential by scoring twice in the Libertadores final and getting a first call up to the Brazil side. Fits the bill perfectly as I see it.

Snap him up. He could be fantastic. :dcool:

It would be quite a waste of time by all the scouts and management who are in Brazil right now to do all the groundwork on him only to be told to forget it. I'm sure this won't be the case.

same hea... or maybe they want to get tevez

Me too ... and if current prices are to be believed we could possibly get them both for roughly the same amount that we paid for Gilardino ... won't that be something :D

']As long as we get better players than Sobis, I have no problem...

The problem is not only with Sobis, dude, my real concern is that we're missing opportunities to sign worthy players each passing day... :irritate:

The board MUST have something in mind: football market is a sleazy, dirty, ruthless and cruel affair, it's "do or die!"...

I dont know why we are acting like a provincial club with extremely tight finances. What's the big deal? If our scouts think Sobis has got good potential and would fit in well, then let's sign the guy and give him a shot. What have we got to lose? If he doesnt do well, then we can always loan him out, or sell him off for a small loss. After all, we're not looking at an ultra-expensive signing here....

so Valencia is our main rival for Sobis? We can beat Valencia easily if we want Sobis. But if Galliani and Berlusconi want Ronaldo and don't want Sobis, you know what:D. To me, if Sobis comes Valencia or Milan, I'll be happy. Valencia is my favourite club too:D.

Good and bad news here.

http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=12&a=14180

It says:

Sobis's agent Machado says something like "The negotiation with Milan was already done. Gaetano Paolilo (milan official) came to Porto Alegre only to finalize the payment to Internacional."

And here is the bad news.

Machado : " Valencia has put in an equal offer that to Milan and we will be meeting Valencia on Monday. If Sobis doesnt move to Milan he could go to Spain"

edit: wops didnt see the page before.

Yeah this was posted on the previous page. Spain for Sobis? SOB!

There was another version of the news that said Milan would buy him but will be LOANED to Valencia depending on Milan's other signings.

Monday will be talks to Valencia, then Tuesday the game. I think everything is just delayed till after the 2nd leg. But the negotiation is done. Another wait and see! So much waiting.

Its an agent trying to finalize a deal for his client, or trying to put the pressure on our side. Cant picture Milan management being too happy about his attitude.
Lets wait and see if Sobis is our guy.

Honestly, if I were Sobis and an offer may come in from Milan. I'd consider holding on for a couple days. I just can't see him saying, "Nah I don't want to go to Milan" unless someone else was offering a MUCH better deal.

The question is, is Milan going to make a bid for Sobis or not? We'll have to wait and see - but according to the article, they are in advanced negotiations - so it sounds forthcoming.

Sobis: AC Milan move almost done
tribalfooball.com - August 20, 2006

Internacional de Porto Alegre striker Rafael Sobis has revealed he's close to sealing a move to AC Milan.

"It's true, the negotiations are advanced and I can't wait to run to Milan," Sobis told Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday.

Click here to find out more!
"I have to admit that I am very enthusiastic about this adventure. All day I have been surfing the Internet so I can find out everything about Milan. I already knew the team, but I'm discovering more about the city itself and it seems perfect for me. I hope everything can be concluded as quickly as possible."

Sobis would be the replacement for 30m Chelsea man Andriy Shevchenko, joining other Brazilians such as Marcos Cafu, Ricky Kaka, Nelson Dida and Serginho.

"I have heard of everyone in the side, but I've not personally met any of them. I am in a tricky position at the moment, as I know talks are progressing well, but there's nothing official yet. We follow Serie A games in Brazil and know Milan are one of the best teams in the world. My style is very different to yours, though, so I'll need some time to settle in.

"I like to move around off the ball, come back into midfield and make the most of my pace," continued the youngster.

"What I love the most is running into the box and trying to score. I am a centre-forward, a born finisher. If you want a comparison, then I suppose you could say I resemble the early Amoroso, or perhaps Lyon striker Fred."

Sobis warns Rossoneri
Sunday 20 August, 2006
Rafael Sobis has still not struck a deal with Milan and his agent warns that further delay could see him poached by a Spanish side.

The 21-year-old Internacional Porto Alegre striker has been pinpointed as the replacement for Andriy Shevchenko and confirmed his enthusiasm for this proposed switch.

“I haven’t got an agreement with Milan yet, so everything will be decided next week. I have other offers too and must evaluate them all with due calm.”

Sobis hit the headlines when he scored a decisive brace in the Copa Libertadores Final against San Paolo, but the Serie A giants aren’t the only side interested in him.

“Valencia are also in the running and, if Milan don’t get a move on, Rafael could end up in Spain,” warned agent Machado in the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.

However, the matter isn’t quite as urgent as the representative is suggesting, as it’s likely the striker won’t leave South America until the New Year.

“One of the points up for discussion is the Club World Cup, as we don’t know if I’ll leave Internacional now or in December,” added Sobis. “Alternatively, I could not come to Europe at all. Whatever happens, I’ll be happy.”

The Club World Cup has replaced the Intercontinental Cup with the winners of the six major continental competitions facing off in Japan.

I think we are waiting CL qualification to decide what we are going to do, I heard, correct me if I'm wrong, that Italian teams can only buy one non-EU player per season, so we will buy Sobis if we don't qualify and another non-EU target if we do? Tevez? If the thing about the one non EU player is correct, then we can't buy both.

P.S. : We can also ask Inter how they do tricks with their player passports and don't face trial also, maybe?

Guys relax, I think this has been mentioned many times before, but the potential new signings all want Champions League play. And we have another qualifier on Tuesday. Let's let that play out first. Hopefully we can get out of Belgrade with a berth in the main draw. Then we can really start talking it up. Ok, if all goes right on Tuesday and by the weekend we don't have any announcements to make, then I'll be concerned.

Sobis is just putting pressure on us. I say screw him, let him go to Valencia if he's gonna act this way. I understand his need to move on, but bullying us by going public isn't the right in my eyes.

I can't say for sure, but it may not present a problem. I would imagine it's somewhat likely that Tevez has some Italian ancestry. Most citizens of Buenos Aires do and particularly those from the working class neighborhoods. So I would not be surprised if he could get an Italian passport. We'll see.

He would come if we made a concrete offer. At the moment I believe Valencia is ahead in the race of his signing, but thanks to our luck, he would much rather play at Milan if we make an offer. So, It's up to our management if we get him or not.

From what i understand both teams have put in the same offer, or at least Valencia have matched our offer for Sobis. This might have changed recently though.

So i don't see what the delay is, if they're going to accept this offer and Sobis wants to join us then why not get it signed now ? All this waiting is pointless when the deal seems so near to being concluded.
