Can't help but remember Javier Moreno and Jose Mari for Milan :sob: no more after them two

.......
this is the most overrated player I have seen in the past decade or so. Ok, I lied here, he is the SECOND most overhyped player, numero uno is Denilson.

At the age of 19 one becomes the captain and the premier striker of a UEFA cup quality team. I am saying that he is not over hyped but he surely doesn't deserve a second place. Robinho and Ibra are waaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of him.

Torres the most over-hyped player? and what about Gilardino? the god of over-hyped players?

zlatanov
30-11-2006, 14:43
Gila was proven in Serie when we got him - two consecutive years 20+ goals. Torres is not and is 1.5 times more expensive, at least.
Plus the "hype" about gila was limited to within Serie A, and never really reached the levels of what we see with Torres now. there wasn't even a bidding war about the guy with Inter or Juve ... only Chelski made some inquiries about him and that was it, so not sure we could even talk of being "overhyped" when it comes to gilardino.

Jim_UK

Over hyped is one thing, but that's not down to the player. Hype is down to the media and maybe club officials to try and generate more cash for him should he ever leave.

He's a good player with a lot of potential and has burnt all the teams in Spain at some point or another with goals or great performances. Given the chance to develop with a better team, better individuals (although some of Atletico's current players are very good) and a better environment/coaching, then i'm sure he'll blossom most handsomely.

well... alot of members here makes Gilardino sound like the second comin' of Pele... and we all know that he is not even as good as Pele's little tiny toe of his weaker left feet...

Well here is my general question:

1) Has Milan Scout taken a look at Torres in the past? Hell I think so.
2) Does everyone know about Torres? Yes of course, or at least MOST people.
3) Has Milan Scout taken a look at Gourcoff in the past? Hell definitely.
4) Does eveyrone know about Gourcoff? I DON"T THINK SO, or at least NOT MOST people.

And here is the difference :If Torres is judged to be a player capable + availalbe on market, then Milan would have gone for him, long time ago.

Another example? Tevez.

So because no one has bought Torres yet, that makes him a bad player? That seems to be what you're implying Jeff.
i think what Jeff is saying is that Torres isn't some unknown talant but a player well known to anyone, who has anything to do with football, and if Milan indeed believed he was worth going for at this price, they would have done so long time ago rather than just sniff around and keep an eye on him - something they do with probably more than half of the good players out there, whose name comes out in the media, for whatever reason.

Jim_UK
30-11-2006, 16:05
except when we first tracked him 4 years ago, i doubt we were in any position to give a young teenage Torres a starting role with the calibre of forwards we had and that position hasn't really changed until now.

Compare that to Gourcuff who can play in numerous positions for us and only has a couple of players ahead of him ( Kaka, Seedorf ) and you see that we can offer him more opportunities than we ever could to Torres.

Plus was Torres ever available for the few million euros Gourcuff was? I doubt it.

zlatanov
30-11-2006, 16:19
Jim, if Milan saw in Torres not just a player with big potential but something more than that - another Sheva say - we would have made space for him in an instant, although 4 years ago Torres was just a kid and would have hardly seriously thought of getting him and playing in the 1st team to begin with.

As for his price, well isn't that what the whole argument is about? Say Torres was available for 10-15 mil, I am not gonna go as low as 2-3 mil which is what we paid for Gorky. Do you really believe that anyone here at MM or anyone in Milan Management would ask themselves "Is he gonna make it in Italy and Milan?" ... of course not, we would have most probably gone straight for the kill, because, although the risk of him not being suitable for Serie A would have been the same, a price of 10-15 mil would have made that risk a "measured", and "acceptable" one.

At 35+ mil for the same unproven player, however, the risk is no longer a reasonable one but is more a sign of compulsive gambling.

Jim_UK

Torres' age is another point. How long was it before we went for Shevchenko? How many years (if any) did we sit back and monitor him before bringing him in? There's no way we would have brought Shevchenko to our team when he was any younger than the age we did get him at (23 i think), yet people are quick to say we Torres must be poor or not worth it as he's been around for 4 years already!

Torres has done everything he possibly can in Atletico Madrid, he's played well against the big teams and small teams, scored alot of goals and played well at the world cup. Yet people are quick to jump on him because A.Madrid isn't in the CL or whatever, that's hardly his fault is it.

If 10-15 million is an acceptable risk then why aren't we signing more players like Lucas, Gago, etc? We're hardly going for the kill with these possible 'talents'.

Is Torres worth 30 odd million? I don't know, probably not, not many players are. But again his price isn't his fault and neither is the apparent hype about him. He's a good player who'd be an asset to our team, that's the bottom line.

Jim, I am not really sure what point you are trying to make and it seems to me that we are literary going in circles. Does it really matter how old Torres is? Sheva was 20-21 when he was already attarcting the attention of all of Europe with his displays in CL and doing so with the consistency of a proven and seasond/experienced player, not once every 7-8 games, while being average and looking sort of lost on the field for the other 6-7.

Do you really think that, if Torres was doing the same now when he's already 22, Milan would have just limited themselves to lurking around and showing interest once in a while by complimenting him in the papers.

My point is that what really matters whether Milan goes for a player or not is whether that player shows matturity beyond his years and consistency of an experienced player.
In other words, if an even 18 yo Torres had shown those things Sheva convinced Milan with, we would have gotten him long time ago rather than just sit back and peep into Atletico's camp from time to time to see if he's developing into a player we could use.
Instead, Torres is showing what a very talanted player of his age would be expected to be showing and the reason for so much attention to be on him is simply because Spain is looking for their new Raul and would hype without limit every new youngster that even slightly stands out from the crowd.

All in all, if we would go for Torres seariously it's not the hype or his potential or his young age that would make it or break it for us, it's how he realizes that potential on the field, how he proves himself when the time to stand out comes and do so with consistency not once in a blue moon ... something that Sheva did time and time again despite being 21 or so. Should Torres show the same, you can bet your butt that we would go for him even if it means spending 35 mil for him. Problem is that, at least at this point in time, he hasn't done even half of what Sheva has done at this age.

As for why we don't spend on other players? well, strikers are notoriously more expensive than midfielders plus I said that 10-15 would be an acceptable risk for Torres, a player whose price is currently at 35+ mil. I his case, I think 10-15 would be an acceptable risk ... but this is when it comes to Torres.

why we don't spend more on players like Lucas or Gago? what makes you think that Lucas or even the center-of-all-talk Gago are worth going for to begin with? Just because the newspapers in SA talk a lot about them ... just because Real M is willing to spend big money on them (20 mil for Gago). Honestly, what has Lucas done to make you reach the conclusion that he's worth buying at all, even for 7-8 mil? how many times have you seen him play and prove himself time and time again on the field? what makes you think he would be worth even that much. The positive remarks he got from a c ouple of other Milan fans and a couple of articles? Well, honestly, isn't this what fans and media are all about - getting excited about every other new face that surfaces on the field? Isn't this true for at least 20-30 new talents that come out of Brazil and Argentina every single year? How many next Maradonas and next Peles have we had over the past couple of years? ANd how many of them finish as yet another "could have been", yet another broken promise.

All in all, in the end of the day, it's young players who manage to prove themsleves over time that I expect to see Milan go for, not another bright star, which like so many others, will burn out rather quickly. And of course the price has to be right, although I think this is still secondary to the abilities that youngster shows - I think we would have gotten Kaka even if his price was twice as much ... same goes for Gorky too.

Personally I think Torres is way overhyped. He's got talent, but I think A LOT of work would need to be done for him to be successful for us.

lol, I mentioned him in the other thread about Kaka's dad and scouts in Brazil.

sorry i did not read that thread. again, why are we preoccupied with overpriced ronaldinho, sheva, torres? we need someone like anderson, he is probably the same class as messi.
i think torres is overrated, i have not seen him play, but statistic rules! he doesnt score lots of goals! even old morientes scored more goals that he did.

Torres is a good player. He has excellent potential and we can expect him to do great things in the future. However, I said we can expect him to. Will he do them?...We can only wait and see.
As for him being a little over-rated I would have to say yes. He is not worth all that money 30+ mil Atletico wants for him. It is stupid and unexplainable. The price that they have on him probably makes him one of the most expensive if not the most expensive striker out there. Those of you who say he is good enough and he is not over-rated, prove why is he so much better then every other striker out there to be worth that much.
Jim you say that that that high price isn't his fault, which I agree with. It really isn't his fault. But that doesn't really matter, as if you think about it that's what makes him over-rated. That value that they have on him is actually over-rating him and obviously it has made some people think that he is as good as they make him be, which is obviously 30mil. He isn't responsible for the whole hype around him as well, but he doesn't have to be. Those around him are raising the hype and as a matter of fact it is the public and the fans that are over-rating him just as much as Atletico.

As for him comming here, I wouldn't mind us paying around 15m for him, but no way 30m. Then there is this whole dissapointing "spanish-players in Italy" thing so I don't really know if I would want him in Milan. So, I am kind of holding my voice down on Torres for now! :)

Jim_UK
01-12-2006, 03:45
he doesnt score lots of goals! even old morientes scored more goals that he did.

if you read his stats you'll see he averages 1 goal every 2 games, i'd hardly call that a poor statistic.

Then you compare him to a player who's nearing the end of his career and who's obviously scored more goals, which is a bit stupid. That's like saying Inzaghi has scored more goals than Boriello :rollani:

I also don't get this point about how at Torres' age, Shevchenko had done far more. Granted his CL displays were great, but lets factor in that he played in a great team BUT in a much easier league than La Liga. If Shevchenko had played for a non CL team in Spain and we only got to see him play against other Spanish teams, would we still have bought him? No doubt he would have scored alot of goals, but not as many as he did in the Ukraine, teams would have been surely of a better standard and tougher to beat.

So i don't buy any of this "Shevchenko did more at this age" nonsense, unless you have 2 similar teams with 2 similar opportunities for players, you can't make these comparisons. I'm not sure what else Torres can do to prove himself, yes this season he's been poor but so have alot of players around the world, he's scored regularly and at time heavily, burnt top teams in Spain and been his side's catalyst and symbol for a few years even though he's so young. I'd hardly say he lacked ability or talent.

Calciomercato has today a rumor linking us with Fabregas. Tuttosport :( is the source so not sure what to really make of it. It quotes Fabregas admiring Kaka's class and him saying that Milan is a team he has always liked. Bah!!! If that is true however and we can get him, we should get him yesterday!!!!! He can develop into the best pure mid in the world. Forget Gago, Fabregas has shown his talent time and time again in the premiership and in the CL. I wish Gago all the best, but to me, no need to go after players whose sights are set elsewhere. We shouldn't convince players to come to Milan, it should rather be automatic. Tgcom.it has an article saying that nesta and sergio need surgery, and that the 1st will be out 2-3 months, while the latter's season is over. Too bad, because I really like sergio and think he could have solved a lot of problems this yr. I know he is old, but I hope this is not the end of his milan career. So if that is the case, we need to get a central defender, a right back, maybe even a left back, a striker and a goalie. For now and the remainder of the season, Oddo, Sheva, Amelia, and maybe even getting back Marzoratti would be a start. I know Marzoratti is better served playing a whole season at Empoli but it seems most quality center backs will not be available come Jan. But come summer, our assault should focus on Alves, Fred, and Fabregas. If we can get Mexes on top of that, it would be great. We would then look at a team comprised of: Amelia-Alves-Nesta-Mexes-Janku-Fabregas-Gattuso-Gourcuff-Kaka-Sheva-Fred. I think Galliani should hire me as his assistant on the spot, hahahaahah. I know sheva and Fred have some similar characteristics, and that pirlo is not in this starting 11, but hey, I didn't say I was perfect either :)
In all honesty, the team would be much younger and faster. Let me know what you guys think

Yes, these are the 2 names which are strongly connected to Juve lately. One of them will be Trezeguet's replacement, if Trez goes.

But have in mind that Klose to Juventus is a rumour, and noone ever said Juve is going after Klose.
The confussion was made by Klose's agent who said that Klose is closest to an Italian team, and when they asked him will Klose play in CL next year, the agent said : CL isn't a priority.
So, most of the journalists concluded that Klose's agent is talking about Juventus, but we can't exclude the possibility he was talking about Milan. Because looking at Milan's current league position, and Milan's results in last 2 months, noone can be sure Milan will play CL next year.
Also "Bild", german newspaper gave some silly percantages about who has the biggest chance to get Klose, and they said Juve with 40% are closest to him. But according to some German friends i have, "Bild" is a kind of newspaper that has naked women on front page, and they're the most unreliable source when we talk about football !

Huntelaar , as Deschamps favourite to replace Trezeguet, is connected to Juve since Deschamps came, but after Lyon "offered" 31 M for Trez, we hear his name as Trez's replacement more and more lately. But there was no offer yet, so it's just another rumour atm !

Aswhin, Tevez is talented but world class is pushing it. I think he is too much of a basket case, while Mascherano hasn't played for West Ham. Either he isn't good enough or there is something we don't know there. I don't know if they are guys I would go after and make them building blocks. For Jan, I still believe oddo/belletti, and a Sheva/Iaquinta would be better. If we can get back Marzoratti or a quality center back also, we will be better off. The mid will be fine, because we will get back a rested Gattuso, Pirlo is turning the corner, and we have gourcuff, seedorf, brocchi and ambro. So Mascherano at this pt, will just keep on sitting on the bench. When June comes, then the team will consider a wider array of players.

I still believe oddo/belletti, and a Sheva/Iaquinta would be better.

You think Belletti and Iaquinta would be good purchases? You've got to be kidding right? They're both sub standard players, we shouldn't be interested in either one of them. There are far better options out there for the January window.

Something to do with a new UEFA rule. I don't know the details but I'm just going by what I understood from Galliani. If I get the exact rule I'll post it. Or maybe Galliani just wants 3 youth players to join the team in the summer..I dunno.

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/comparl/imco/press/060503_hearing_football_en.pdf

This is as close as I could get to the actual rule for now.

Here's some more:

Definition:

A home trained player is either club trained or association trained.
CLUB TRAINED: A player trained at that club for 3 years between the
ages of 15 and 21.
ASSOCIATION TRAINED: A player trained at a club in the same
association for 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21.

The Proposal:

In all UEFA competitions a club has to name a 25 player squad list.
UEFA want to introduce an enforcement that 4 of these players must be
home trained. Then over 5 seasons to progressively increase this
number to 12 home trained players.

Apparently for now it is to be implemented only in UEFA competitions. The player only has to be in the 25 man squad..not necessarily play. Then again why would you just take up space with players and not play them.

nefremo
03-12-2006, 04:16
I think it is a great idea, however to push it up to 12 players is a little too much I think. 3 or 4, even 5 is good but to push that number up to 12 is too much. This will definately give some opportunity to smaller clubs while bigger clubs won't be so star filled. It will make big clubs pay attention to their youth academies a lot more, because lets face it we know how teams like Milan, Real, Juve, Inter, Barca, now Chelsea, Bayern, etc. work. They don't pay that much attention to their youth accademies because they can alway buy a player just as good and in most times better that they simply don't have the time to develop a youngster. This makes them to have to develop their youth.
The biggest concern I think Uefa has is the overflow of South American players. Every team registered to play a European competition must have for now at least 3 youth members, which basically means 3 European young players. I think UEFA is not saying this, but it is definately one of their priorities.

milan_stip, with all respect, i'm not sure that Pandev is the biggest talent in europe :guw: Ilsinho is a target i don't understand, are we going for him just so we can say we bought a south american talent? Brasiliero's comments on him weren't exactly full of praise, i wonder how Ilsinho is getting on in his latest games?

If Milan's going to sign someone young, he needs to be proven in his own domestic league. Pandev and Ilsinho have not really proven themselves. I still feel that Tevez and Mascherano can suit Milan's style of play. I believe Mascherano can be Gattuso's replacement, someday. Milan can trade Sneijder for Seedorf as i feel that Seedorf's best days are almost over. It would be good if we could cash in on him and get Sneijder. As for our left and right backs, I hope Milan do sign Zambrotta and Oddo. They may not exactly be young but at least they are capable and they still do have a few good years in them. Besides, Zambrotta isn't settling well In Barca. If Maldini and Costacurta do FINALLY decide to retire (no offence but it's time they moved on), Milan can sign Barzagli. Though that may seem unlikely as he was close to signing for Juve last season. If possible, Milan can trade Favalli for Zauri. Though that seems impossible because nobody can be as dumb as Inter.

In conclusion, our best transfer season would be the 2002/2003 season. We got 2 of our star players, Pirlo and Seedorf (who were flops at Inter) who turned out to be superstars at Milan. It's about time Milan started a new cycle and fast. Start opening the cheque books.

Then again why would you just take up space with players and not play them.

at last, this is exactly what i want to happen for so long! congratulations UEFA! now u r talking! it will make the competition more exciting and reduce the gap between small and big clubs, this is about the fair go for small clubs and young players! the question is will milan use the same 25 players in uefa competition in domestic league?

it is ridiculous and sad to see an english club has only one english man or an italian club has only one or two italian players in the starting eleven!

Cagliari's Suazo open to AC Milan move
tribalfooball.com - December 04, 2006

Cagliari striker David Suazo admits he welcomes continued interest from AC Milan.
The Honduras international is again being linked with Milan for the January market and said: "If the reports are true, then it is very pleasing that Milan is interested in me.

"If I was to go to Milan, I would do my best for them. I repeat, if Milan are interested in me it is truly flattering."

Zambrotta: I chose Barcelona over AC Milan
tribalfooball.com - December 04, 2006

Barcelona fullback Gianluca Zambrotta has again declared he never wanted to leave Juventus in the summer.
The Italy World Cup winner said: "I sincerely never would have left Juve, but I was forced into the move because of the many things that went on, particular situations occurred and I chose to try this experience abroad.

"Milan? There was contact, there was the possibility to go to them but I have chosen Barcelona, the same club which pushed me to come here.

"It's been a positive choice, I find myself happy here, it is an experience not only professionally but also for life."

:tired:

It says we are in the race for Alves but chelski are in the lead. :tired: Today, :tired: Galliani said, :tired: we might buy a defender :tired: in Jan. :tired:

Sevilla will never sell Alves in january. Also, back in the summer they were asking for at least 15 mil euros, I think ... now his price has gone up and is probably close to 20 mil if not more.
With Chelski and Roman in the mix, you can kiss Alves goodbye should they prefer him over Miguel.
More or less the smae could be said about Miguel too. If Valencia agrees to sell at all, it would be for no less than 15 mil or so and definitely not in January.
I do hope we get one of these two as Chelski won't go for both Miguel and Alves, but I think the best option for January is Oddo ... he's just about the only good RB we could expect to get then.

he's been there for several years now, has bought virtually everyone they have been seriously after and apart from two EPL titles, they have sucked big time in CL.
In fact, now even the EPL title seems no longer a sure thing as ManU is back at the top.
Look at Real, when was the last time they had shortage of money there? On the contrary, they've been buying player after player, yet, they've won nothing over the past 4 years or so.
All in all, having money to spend and spending them can only help you to a certain extent .. However, reaching the top, and more importantly staying there, takes much more than just that.

Tony29.

However, reaching the top, and more importantly staying there, takes much more than just that.
Which leads us to only 5-6 teams who managed to stay on top in last 10 years

Real Madrid with 3 CL titles, 4 semifinals and 8 quarterfinals
Juventus with 1 title, 4 CL finals, 5 semifinals and 7 quarterfinals
Manchester with 1 title, 3 semifinals and 7 quarterfinals
Bayern with 1 title, 1 lost final, 3 semis and 6 quarters
Milan with 1 title, 1 lost final, 3 semis and 4 quarters
and Barcelona with 1 title, 3 semis and 4 quarterfinals

Chelsea still has a long way to go to be in the company of the 6 giants from above !

did anyone watch the everton - west ham game this weekend?
tevez looked fantastic...great on and off the ball...clearly the best player on the pitch.
i am not sure why he hasn't earned a constant spot on the team? attitude?
i know he had to wear a brazil jersey all week in practice as punishment for last weeks ordeal.

i think he is the style of player milan could use, great in the attacking 3rd. he always makes himself available, he separates himselft from defenders and finds space to recieve a pass, makes a couple of moves and creates more space, then makes accurate passes/crosses. i think a player like him (similar to c. rinaldo) would be a great complement to kaka.

Galliani on the transfer window (from acmilan.com):
'Sheva will not return. The first thing Milan need to do is get the injured players fit. We don't need reinforcements apart from maybe someone in defence.'

We also need another, proven striker - we've seen how our current selection aren't really working (I'd rather not rely on Borriello all the time as well). Maybe a replacement for Pirlo and Seedorf also?

Ok Jim Uk, tell me realistically who we can get in January? Not many teams will let top players leave in the winter mercato, and especially not ones that are still fighting it out in europe. So we are left with players like a Iaquinta who is not cup tied, suazo, and di natale, for offense, and Ilsinho (never seen him play, don't know how good he is), oddo, and belletti for the right back position. Belletti is a viable solution for the next 6 months, and don't kid yourself, that's what we are looking at. 6 months to make a decent run in champions and claim the 4th spot in serie a, in order to keep Kaka. So to answer you question, I am not kidding, I am dead serious. Management will not spend, no matter how many names we throw on this site. I am by no means negative, but we have to see things for what they are. Galliani is saying that maybe, and i mean maybe, we will get a defender. Do you think that one defender, and I am sure it's not Puyol or Barzagli or Alves that he is talking about, will solve all our problems. The top talents rarely swap teams in January. I do want Etoo, Fabregas, Alves, Buffon and Barzagli, but such players, if they are to swap teams, will only do it come summertime. I will consider Milan to be fortunate if we can get a Belletti and Iaquinta in January. If you think Bonera, Simic, Boriello, and Inzaghi are better options for the remainder of the season, then you are living on another planet homeboy. Wake up now, it would do you good.

Ive heard rumours of us getting Mexes in this window for the summer, and there is also Criscito from genoa who were being linked to... I would be super happy if we got Oddo, but we wont pay the cash for him...

I think the january defender will be Oddo, if he doesn't sign a new contract with Lazio that is. So Bonera or Simic can move to the centre, where they perform better than on the right. One of those two will be given to Lazio as part of the deal. If Oddo's not available then I can't imagine who they will sign.

If we continue to struggle to score I bet they will buy Iaquinta, Boriello will be part of the deal and once that is done they will realise that Iaquinta is a Pippo but with far lesser skill :) so I pray Gilardino broke his goal draught and starts scoring regulary... better no one than Iaquinta imo.

Oddo could leave, says Rossi

Coach Delio Rossi has admitted that Lazio defender Massimo Oddo may be sold in January. “After all, no one is untransferable,” he stated.

The World Cup winner has once again been paired with Milan after his proposed summer move fell through, but it now seems that the operation may be finalised during the upcoming winter window.

“Anyone can be sold if the club receives the right offer and this is true for any one of us, including the Coach,” said Rossi.

“If someone better than me should arrive, I would be ready to step aside,” added the tactician, who does not understand why his substitution of Oddo against Fiorentina caused so much of a stir.

“Every time I replace someone during the weekend games, on Monday it feels like High Noon,” he noted.

“All my decisions have a technical motivation and I feel that this situation is exasperating, even more so because on Tuesday every problem just seems to disappear.

“I make my choices and I would repeat most of them, although there are some things that I would maybe do differently with the wisdom of hindsight.

“As to Sunday, I would have no doubt in substituting Oddo again.”

Rossi must now focus on Sunday’s derby with Roma, a match that he knows has special significance for all in the capital.

“We will play against a very strong team and we will have to do our best,” added the former Salernitana tactician.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on the team though as the derby is already a very delicate game.

“I am a passionate person, every day is a derby for me, but we all know this is a special match,” he concluded.

I am not sure for much we can buy him for. It should not be a penny more than 5 MN Euros and I would gladly exchange Foggia for him and reduce the price drastically. Foggia is good but the last day of transfer he forced Ancelotti to send/sell him to Lazio as he admired that club and wanted to play frequently. He primaril likes to play as a winger. Yes, he will also be helpful to us by taking over Seedorf position but at the moment we need Oddo more than anything.

Oddo can give us instant and prolonged solution for the RB position for another 3-4 years or may be even 5 years and under him we can get a young RB like Ilsinho or whoever and develop the new kid further. Won't this backline look terrific:

Oddo-Nesta- Kala-Janku/Sergio/Favalli

We already have a replacement for Seedorf..........Gourcuff. He has shown that he WILL be a great player..........and yes, I say that with such confidence because of the qualities he posseses.
The midfield is great in my oppinion with Pirlo, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kaka. This will be one of the strongest midfields in the world next season........what we need is back ups for these players, back ups that can be relied on like they are starters. We already have Brocchi who has proven he can step in at any position and do a great job and we need more like him.
It might be time for Seedorf to go, although him swaping places with Gourcuff and being the kid's back up might do as well.

I think it's pretty obvious that we need re-inforcements in January, isnt it? I mean the team looks stale, the players are all getting old, and worse of all, results have been quite simply atrocious by our standards.

The only question is if management would see things as they really are and make the necessary (I mean big and bold, not bargain basement) moves in the transfer market. From what I've seen over the last three years, I'm starting to lose faith in their ability to grasp reality. Let's hope something is done before we lose all credibility.

I think we will sign the RB Alexis from cetafe. As i know for him he is in great form and he is a very good as player. And i think milan is after him.
Klose:
On the other hand Klose could be sold says the Werder breme managment only with the right price. So we can sign him if we try.
Trezeguet:
Also trezeguet will stay to Juve if Juve will be competitive to win trophies next year(wich i dont think so),he wants quaranties to stay there,he want to win trophies. So we can also sign Trezeguet.
Barzagli:
Palermo had told that Barzagli is not a player for sell, but if there is a bit from a club that will satisfy their requirements
(which are big for Barzagli)they will sell him.So we can also buy him.
Amelia:
The same reasons with Barzagli.
Iaquinta:
I think he is not happy at Udinese and he wants to leave as soon as possible, and he want a move to a bigger club.I can say that Udinese will sell him if we try.Look at the scorer-tables he had 7 goals at the moment!

No one from the 31 players is from Milan!Thats bad.We really had a big problem,we need a striker!
From that list i will choose Vincenzo Iaquinta,Amauri,Quagliarella(i had seen Quagliarella this season some times and he is very very good striker. He is very fast, very good at technical and he had 6 goals at the moment. From now i will be watching this guy!)
I didnt choose Toni because he can be the most expensive from all the players that i choosed and he is also 30 years old.

Alexis:
I think we will sign the RB Alexis from cetafe. As i know for him he is in great form and he is a very good as player. And i think milan is after him.
Klose:
On the other hand Klose could be sold says the Werder breme managment only with the right price. So we can sign him if we try.
Trezeguet:
Also trezeguet will stay to Juve if Juve will be competitive to win trophies next year(wich i dont think so),he wants quaranties to stay there,he want to win trophies. So we can also sign Trezeguet.
Barzagli:

My humble opinion :

Alexis : maybe we'll get him if we can't get Oddo.

Klose : Juventus. 75% Milan 25%

Trezeguet : will remain at Juventus. I bet all I've got that Juventus will come back with a team that can win the scudetto if you'll look at their team on paper, but the referees will block them bad, if you think they're after us, you'll see next year it will be worse for Juve, I'm sure of it.

Barzagli : Zamparini won't sell for anything else than a ridiculous price, so forget it.

Amelia : he will either move to the EPL, remain at Livorno or be part of a swap + money deal for Buffon, the third option is very unlikely though, it's just a hope I have.

Iaquinta : will move to Roma or Palermo, not Milan.

The only acquisitions in January will be Oddo + maybe Amelia but I won't count on it.

I think you might have a point but don't rule out Buffon instead of Amelia!
Amelia,Sorentino, Gomez are allready cup tied. While one of the best keepers in the world isn't (Buffon)
Dida is out with an injury and contract negotiations have stalled aswell and we need a keeper if we don't want to be eliminated for the CL to soon

If a keeper joins in january I think it will be Buffon

Actually, this rule was allready discussed here, and in UEFA regulations it is written that a player, even if he played in UEFA cup, can play for a team competing in Champions league

It was article 15.17/18 and it says :

15,17 : For all the matches from the start of the first knock-out round, a club may register a maximum of 3 new eligible players for the remaining matches of the current competition. Such registration must be completed until February 1 2007 at the latest. The deadline can not be extended.

15,18 : One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club competitions matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered , provided that the player has not been fielded :
- In the same competition for another club
- for another club that is currently in the same competition

Furthermore, if the player's new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current season.

I believe this means every single player who played in UEFA Cup can now play in Champions league !

I remember 2 years ago we were debating who should we bring to Milan, Corradi, Crespo or Chevton.. I was wondering the last few days what ever happened to him and then today I see the Real - Sevilla game and WHAT A WINNING goal scored by guess who? Yep you got it, Ernesto Chevanton.

I always liked him, ever since he totally made a fool out of Cafu a couple of seasons ago and scored 2 against us. I wonder if Milan can get him, he is a Sheva-type of player. He also is pretty young, around 25 I guess. He can replace Boriello for the remaining half of the season, but he is cup-tied isn't he?

He really has class, i must agree with you.
As a Serie A follower i followed him in Lecce. Where i live now we have 2 matches per week from French league and i followed him in Monaco. Now he's in Sevilla.

Despite the class and the gift for football he has, there's something in this player that stops him from being one of the best in the world. He sort of reminds me of Di Vaio, with better technique.
But at 27 he still didn't shine as he was supposed to, and playing in Lecce, Monaco and now Sevilla just proves that he's a perfect squad player but not someone who brings trophies to clubs like Real, Manchester, Juve or Milan !

Tony: Gilardino nor Oliveira are strikers that bring you trophies. Inzaghi and Sheva have already proved that they can. Ofcourse you can argue they are too young and I havent given them a chance yet, but please think maturely. The way Oliveira is playing is not so bad, he shows alot of potential and IMO he might, just might a good player if he continues trying hard. He seems to be heading in the right direction. We musnt forget that he also has personal issues and no one in the team is playing well, but he Oliveira still consistenly hits the post and creates balls for the team. I think he can make it in Milan.

Gila has been here for a year and a half, and has scored goals last year when the team was the most profilic team in Europe. Gila though is not worth 24million AT ALL and has not lived up to our expectations. He just camps up at the opposing defence and waits for the ball to come to him so you can see him dive and go for a foul. He doesnt even break away from defenders but instead goes and sticks to them !! (if you dont believe me, concentrate next game on it).

I really would rather havin Chevanton than Gila. I cant judge Oliveira yet cuz he hasnt had alot of time, but has still impressed me more than Gila in all of his 1.5 years here. Dont forget we also have a striker that was only here because we couldn't find a 4th striker - Borriello. No way anyone would prefer Boriello over Chevanton. Milan are right now in need of players like Chevanton, Di Michele, Di Viao, RECOBA. These are strikers who can come in and immediately earn a starting spot if they are in top form and can help us through this situation. And next year when we get a 'great' striker then we can simply have these as squad players because they are nothing more than that.

Edmilson, Motta, or Marquez play that role. Usually, Edmilson is first choice for that role, while Motta's been used in it when the other two are either injured or playing CD (Marquez)

I hope Berlu will use his muscle to bring Oddo to Milan. I know he is 30 will cost a player + good cash, but he will provide us instant protection. He is sort of a plug-and-play player. He still has 2-3 years of top class football in him and later on can serve a good back up for the other RBs we will buy in future.

well they are but every player can play that role, someone can do it good, someone bad but you cant say that pirlo, gourcuff or malouda, camoranesi or others cant play that role. its modern football where you must do defence and offence missions with the same quality.

It's not about just putting a player in there and call him a ball-winner. The players you mentioned are anything but ball winners - Malouda and Camo are players who are strictly operating on the wings, the other two, especially Pirlo, have more constructive rather than destructive/holding abilities.
Of course you can play Gorky or Pirlo in midfield and hope that their defensive abilities would be enough but when it comes to playing that sweeping role in midfield, they would cope only to AN EXTENT with it as they can't compare to players like Marquez or Edmilson in Barca - two players, who are good at constructing the play but are at their best when it comes to destroying the other team's game - or other players like Diarra, Gattuso, Essien, Makelele, Mascherano, De Rossi, Vieira, Gerrard etc.

Gerrard is the perfect solution for our CM, but he is only a dream. First thing we need to do is send Seedorf to bench and put Gourcuff in his position and play

----------------pirlo-----------
---gattuso----------gourcuff----
-------------kaka--------------------

With speedy RB, and LB that can play good and cover Gourcuff we are ready in this faze. Even KAladze can play LB behind Gourcuff, and Nesta-Maldini in the middle. We can solve this department in january with only one signing and some rotation.

All teams need that tireless worker in midfield who wins the ball in midfield and can provide a physical prescence in the midfield. It's all well and good having 4 creative midfielders but if their defensive skills suck, your midfield would get run over all day long.

Can we just close this thread? Why are you guys consoling yourselves? Every Milan fan knows that no transfer will occur in January. Even if it does, they'll sign a player over 34 years old. It's quite sad to be a helpless Milan fan. So many of us have good ideas and yet all we can do is just build castles in the air by dreaming about big signings. If you ask me, they should get rid of all three of them: Berlusconi, Galliani and Ancelotti. Milan need someone with ambition. Berlusconi has lost his motivation. It's time he moved on.

seriously, though, looks like a great prospect but he is non-EU player so for right now I doubt a big Italian club would go for him given how many established and proven non-EU players are out there.
The best thing to do IMO would be to get him and immediately loan him out to one of the smaller clubs in Italy, which are less likely to buy other non-EU players.

Although Huntelaar is an exciting prospect, it must be said that the dutch league isn't good and no real measure as to how good he can become. The real top strikers from Holland scores almost a goal per game, and even sometimes more than that (Van Basten, Van Nistelrooy). Here's the top goalscorers in Holland until now this season (17 games):

Afonso, Heerenveen, 16
N'Kufo, Twente, 15
Koevermans, AZ, 13
Lazovic, Vitesse, 12
Farfan, PSV, 11
Arveladze, AZ, 10
Huntelaar, Ajax, 10

So only based on his goals, we can not be sure he's the man for Milan. He would have a lot to prove if he arrived, but the talent is there for all to see.

Did you even see how he performs for Hamburg now that he left his "protected" Anderlecht? What we really need, is a good midfielder, someone who can create pressure together with Gattuso. Or, we need a good DM, and let Gourcuff and Kaka play, and bench Pirlo.
We can put Oddo on RB, Barzagli on CB, but without the middle we cant play. And its obvious.

I m sorry, but RWB is a defender too. I did not know what context you put into your words, and there is no need to be offended. I was just joking anyway. He scores more goals then Gila, Inzaghi and kaka alltogether :). So why wouldnt we put him as a striker..it might work after all.

My Solution is to the attack is to bring in THREE new strikers, provided that Olivara goes out on loan:
Ronaldo - fast (still does the 100 in 11s), reliable striker who can create goals. Ronaldo is not the solution as he is injury prone, tends to have fitness problems (i.e. being overweight although now he is supposed to be fit again), and his work ethic keeps him from shining as brightly as he once did. Nevertheless I propose that we bring him in, to play an experienced striker role...sort of like Larsson at Barca
Huntelaar -To be our proposed chief goalscorer. Unlike Gila this kid is very impressive and as yet I have seen no flaws in his game.
Alexandre Pato- If Huntelaar is to be our next Inzaghi then PAto is to be our next Sheva

Bot of these kids will learn the tricks of the trade, in an ideal world of course, from Pippo and Ronaldo

He would have a lot to prove if he arrived, but the talent is there for all to see.

personally, I think Farfan would be a great signing. also, even though the dutch league is of a poor standard, it's worth noting it has produced a great deal of world class strikers in the last 15 years (MvB, Romario, Ronaldo, Eiður Guðjohnsen, henrik larsson, Dennis Bergkamp, Julio Ricardo Cruz, Ruud Van Nistelrooy)

it may be a bit risky to say "well because it has done so in the past it will continue to do so" but that track record must be worth something.

can somebody translate this :

Il Milan ha ufficializzato l'offerta per Oddo, ma Lotito continua a dire che è incedibile. Il numero uno della società biancoceleste apre però uno spiraglio ai rossoneri dicendo che se la società di via Turati dovesse fare una proposta indecente, intorno ai 20 milioni di euro, ci si potrebbe anche pensare. Intanto il presidente Silvio Berlusconi ha dato il via libera per l'arrivo di una punta. Nelle prossime ore sarà formalizzata un'offerta per Iaquinta. A.B.

it says that Milan has made an official offer for Oddo but Lazio's president Lotito continues to claim Oddo is not for sale. Lotito, however, opened the door for the Rossoneri by saying that he would consider an offer in the vicinity of 20 mil euros.
In the meantime, Berlusconi has given a green light for the arrival of a striker and in the following hours Milan will make an offer for Iaquinta.

That's roughly what it says but again, these are more or less rumours and assumptions, especially when it comes to Iaquinta's name being involved here.

So, if this is true "il presidente Lotito rifiuta l'offerta di 6 milioni di euro più la metà di Foggia" , Lazio rejected the 6 M Euro+Foggia offer.

Milan will most probably go with another offer, and if Lazio rejects it, then Zebina is the alternative.

As for Zebina, Cappello's favourite, he just came back from a long term injury. He's 28 but he totally lost the speed. We all remember him being owned by Henry last time they met in CL, and since April he played only on 4 matches.
He was among the best on last Juve matches against Verona and Genoa, but serie B is a different level so we can't judge his form from those 2 matches.
I think Milan can get him very cheap !

Milan’s Iaquinta move in doubt Friday 22 December, 2006 -- Channel4 reports.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan’s proposed January bid for Vincenzo Iaquinta has hit the rocks after Marco Borriello tested positive for a banned substance.

The Rossoneri were hoping to tempt Udinese into selling their star striker by offering cash and Borriello in exchange.

However, the former Under-21 international has been suspended as a precautionary measure and could face a lengthy ban if his B test also comes back as positive.

The San Siro giants are desperately looking for a new striker seeing the performances of their misfiring attackers so far this term

Although Alberto Gilardino seems to have finally awoken, Pippo Inzaghi and summer signing Ricardo Oliveira continue to struggle in front of goal.

As a result, Milan may now look elsewhere and they are being strongly linked with Fabio Quagliarella.

The Sampdoria ace has been hot so far this term and he’s netted some real gems amongst his nine Serie A strikes in 2006-07.

The 23-year-old is co-owned by Udinese and may find it tough for a regular shirt at Doria given the competition posed by Francesco Flachi, Emiliano Bonazzoli and Fabio Bazzani.

Quagliarella, formerly of Ascoli and Torino, would also come with the added bonus of being available to play in the Champions League.

Milan are through to the last 16 of the competition and will face Scottish giants Celtic when the tournament resumes in the New Year

Ok, I didn't know that.

Anyway, he's availability has changed as he probably now don't have to leave to get the wage he feels he deserves, and he's pobably also got a pretty high buy-out clause. And Sevilla are top of the spanish league...

A new goalkeeper to replace Dida : Amelia or Hildebrand , both of them are fine.

2 Side backs : Oddo and Ilsinho
1 Central midfielder : someone like Gago would've been nice , is there anyone else available?Maybe Ribery?
2 Attackers : I'd like to see Oliveira and Borriello out.
Suazo for Borriello and a talented youngster for Oli.

It would also be nice if we brought back Foggia and Marzoratti and give these guys a chance.

Ok, i know Milan doesn't really need Mascherano, with Gattuso, Brocchi and Pirlo in the team, and i know he's not having a dream debut in Europe, but i just read in Gazzetta Dello Sport that Juve officials are in London and how Juve will most probably buy the Argentinian ace for "only" £5.7 million in January allready.

I know i'd feel like God with 5.7 Million :) , but for a 22 years old talent with 20 caps for Argentinian NT, for whom all the experts agree he's a classy player, i feel that 5.7 M is like robbing West Ham, and i'm confused how come the other big clubs aren't after him !?

To be on topic....maybe your team should go for him in January if his price is really less than 6 M. He has Italian passport, he's not cup tied, and eventhough he played for 2 teams allready this season, FIFA will almost certanly threat him as a "special case" and allow him to play for a third club.

zlatanov
27-12-2006, 17:14
I agree, at this price for a player like him, there is virtually no risk involved here. we do have a number of players in midfield but with Ambro constantly out and Pirlo being overused/overplayed I wouldn't mind a tough mid in the ranks ... and with Diarra gone (or is he), and De Rossi likely to cost a fortune if ever available, Mascherano looks like a great option, especially at this bargain price, if true of course.

The thing is that the transfer of Mascherano and Tevez to West Ham were in, at least for me, strange circumstances, and i dont think that West Ham owns them... so who knows what you get with those 5,7 millions, what kind of ownership... But if that is the price for full ownership of Mascherano, than that is a grat price, and chance to get a good player for small money... Regarding Mascherano is still young player and has a place for progress.

you are right, this has always been the problem with these two players.
actually, latest news is that Juve have hit a rock in their attempts to sign Mascherano and that's exactly where the problem is - there are too many shady interests involved regarding acquiring a full ownership on Mascherano or Tevez.

And now the latest news from England is that he'll join Juve in January for cca 9 M Euro. He rejected Liverpool because he wants to continue in Italy.
Promising player but this co-ownership thing looks fishy to me. First ,undisclosed transfer to W.Ham, now some funny price tag of 6 M pounds, and some suspicious caracters behind his transfer talks....... this potential transfer stinks, and can cause great problems, imo !
Nothing goes smoothly when Juve is concerned :d55:

I very mouch doubt he's involved. But even if he is and even if Juve signs Mascherano, there's nothing illegal done by Juve ( Moggi should be the only one punished, because he's still banned)

Nowhere. I guess i didn't make myself clear, because i was talking about him being co-owned by West Ham and that company ( MSI, or however it's called).
Anyway, no need to talk about him anymore on MM. He's not Milan's target, and there are too many rumours about him. Now he's connected to Liverpool again.
But i have to say i'm suprised not Milan, Inter, Manchester or some other big names are after him at this price. It's only Pool vs Juve fighting for him.
I guess "too many shady interests" thing you mentioned is what's stopping the others from going after Mascherano !

P.S : I like my avatar too :D. One friend of my makes miracles with photoshop, and he especially wants to operate with Materazzi's pictures :)

huntelaar is the perfect partner for gila
kameni is a good goalkeper

I think Huntelaar would likely be a worthless partner to Gilardino, they are almost clones of each other in playing style.

Kameni is a great shot stopper, ahtletic keeper. But he seems to have the brains of a drunk hen at times.

Totally agreed, about both... For Gila, Cassano is perfect partne, not Huntelaar..

As for Kameni, never liked him, but he might sucseed in Milan, who knows...

can somebody translate this :

ita basically says that Ilsinho's manager, Wagner Ribeiro, has confirmed an inquiry by Milan representative about the player, who many see as the heir of Cafu. At the same time, however, Ribeiro says that he believes Ilsinho will remain, for the moment, at Sao Paolo since the player has a 4-year contract with them and the buy out clause is set at 20 mil US.
And even more, in an interview for Sporttv, Ribeiro added: "The player is happy to stay here (st SP)."

Do u know why did they quit ?
It's impossibile to sign him at this point as it looks. His price is very low, some 8 M Euro, but you're not buying Mascherano for that price. He'll still remain in MSI ownership just that they'll let him play for your club. And they can do whatever they want with him. They can tell him not to play, not to play good, to score an owngoal...everything.

well, in that case we could still profit from him - get him and loan him to Juve or better yet, Inter :diablo:

2) fiorentiena want to swap pazzini for barzagli
(palerma is in need of a striker because amauri is injured for the rest of the season)
3)ronaldinhio IMO, will not come to milan (he is barca, and will always be barca)
4) we spent 110mil€ on ronaldinhio why not use that money for other players (not oddo :s , a 30YO) hot prospects etc...
5) why not sell some players... amrbo, brocchi, simic, ...

i would agree the age of the milan is troubling...especially in defence. Janku is the youngest at 29 (& he is naturally a midfielder). you would think that another 30+ yr old defender would be of concern.
the midfield and strikers looks allright, if the players can find/maintain their form/fitness.

Milans ages - (color coded, because i hate work, and this is much more fun):
1- Dida, Nelson, G --33 goalies get a little more leeway...they dont have to run...
16- Kalac, Zeljko, G--32
29- Fiori, Valerio, G--37

25- Bonera, Daniele, D--25 (?)
18- Jankulovski, Marek, D--29
4- Kaladze, Kakha, D--29
13- Nesta, Alessandro, D--30
17- Simic, Dario, D--31
19- Favalli, Giuseppe, D--34
2- Cafu, Marcos, D--36
3- Maldini, Paolo, D--38
5- Costacurta, Alessandro, D--39

20- Gourcuff, Yoann, M--20
22- Kaka, Ricardo, M--24
21- Pirlo, Andrea, M--28
23- Ambrosini, Massimo, M--29
8- Gattuso, Gennaro, M—29 HIS B-Day is today!
10- Seedorf, Clarence, M--30 (he plays like a red 50% of the time)
32- Brocchi, Christian, M—30 (31) 1/30

11- Gilardino, Alberto, S--24
15- Borriello, Marco, S--24
7- Oliveira, Ricardo, S--26
9- Inzaghi, Filippo, S--33

legend:
red - luv ya, but your over the hill
green - should be in their prime
blue - have time to improve - up and coming or we got talent for some time to come

i think you would like to see more blue, then some green and a couple reds for the experience/locker room stuff. But NO Blue in Defence!!

I'm not laughing at your opinion that he's better than Trez, but to the "Way better" part !
How come Klose ( great finisher, to be honest) , is way better than the best scorer of the italian league in last 5 years. The guy who scored more important and decissive goals in big matches than the entire German NT scored together.
Trezeguet is a guarantee for 20+ goals in serie A which should be equal to 30+ goals in Bundesliga, and even more when Werder, an all attack team, is concerned.
If Trez didn't play in a defensive league, with Juve, where defense worths more than attack, and he played in Werder, a team which scores and gets more than 4 goals per match, i'd bet my house Trez would have scored at least 35 goals every season.

Trezeguet, together with RVN and Crespo is the best finisher you can find in the world, while Klose at 28 is still stuck with a team like Werder Bremen ( great team to watch, and among the best 25 teams in Europe for sure, but if Klose was better than Trez, he would have played in Bayern M at least, not to mention giants like Barcelona, Real, Milan, Man Utd, Juventus, Inter etc.)

No man... I agree that Trezeguet is great finisher, but that is all. If he does not score at the first attemt, he does not try another, I have seen that. The same problem as many strikers have. While Klose never does that, never stops running after he shoots, and he is open for another chance, after the deflection.

And Klose is in Werder still, why, I don't get it. He had offers from another teams, but he rejected them, not Werder. Well, I remeber offer from Bayern which he rejected. Two years ago.

40 goals in the last 2 seasons for Werder and 5 goals in each of World Cup 2002 and World Cup 2006.

Quite an impressive record, IMO. We have to remember that Klose delivers despite playing with fairly modest players. His finishing is great, and he doesen't exhibit the usual histrionics.

As for Trezeguet: he is one of the most underrated strikers in football. His record for France and Juventus is superb. He also scores valuable goals, not just insignificant ones.

Mancini set for June exit
Friday 12 January, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma midfielder Amantino Mancini is reportedly set for a summer exit because of an alleged rift with teammate Francesco Totti.

The Brazilian is contracted to the capital club until June 2009, but he is said to be keen on an exit at the end of the season.

Mancini and Totti are understood to not be on great terms and friction between the pair was evident during Wednesday’s Coppa Italia win over Parma.

Despite both scoring in the tie, they failed to join each other in celebration which seemed to confirm that not everything is quite right between the star duo.

The Gazzetta dello Sport argues that there are a number of reasons which have led to the current situation, including the fact that the Brazilian was one of Antonio Cassano’s ‘supporters’ when the Bari-born striker played in Rome.

Furthermore, Roma have yet to deliver an increase in salary which was promised to the wide man – who joined in 2003 – 18 months ago.

Inter are favoured in the chase for the 26-year-old seeing as they apparently already have an option on him should he leave the Olimpico.

The Nerazzurri grabbed that agreement during talks which took playmaker David Pizarro to Roma in the summer.

Mancini is valued at £14m and could land at the San Siro in a player plus cash deal including former Roma stopper Walter Samuel, who is also a reported target for Juventus.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
If Inter sign Amantino Mancini they will be unstopable! If that transfer come true(i believe that mancini will leave after his problems with Totti) then lets say goodbay and for the next year scudeto! :p286:

yeah, like any of the past 17 years ... they've always been buying top players but the only title they got, they won it off the field.
No need to look and compare Milan to Inter. We just need to reinforce the team in the right way - not necessarily splash money around - and mind our own business ... Inter will take care of themselves, like they always do
