Has this Oliveira thing been confirmed anywhere? When I saw the squad for Roma-Milan, there is indeed no name for Oliveira.

It is back on, at least temporarily. :coffee:

We (or at least I) don't know the details but this Oliveira deal is not good in my opinion. Loan, unrelated or whatever it is to me it just shows how difficult it has become for us just to buy a player.

Welcome Ronaldo, now needed even more than ever.

Great so we spend over £10 million on Oliviera and loan him out after 6 months because Real said so ... then shell out another £5 million just to get Ronaldo ... then we will probably have to spend at least that much again to get a crap player just to bulk up or CL squad ... next time Braida & Galliani might aswell take their trousers off and bend over so another club can screw us over big time!

Strong words Jim...but I agree with the sentiment...loaning out Oliveira (unless at his behest) was simply: Stupid.

IMO.

“We will pay £5m in two instalments for Ronaldo,” explained Galliani. “If Milan qualify for the Champions League in 2007-08, even via the preliminary round, then we would give another £330,000. Of course, we’d be happy to pay that much if it meant reaching Europe!”

This is from Channel4 and it says nothing about Oliveira. The article mentions the loan of Oliveira before that, but Galliani has said nothing about it yet. It wouldn't be a smart move to let Oliveira go. Let's see what happens.

RO was not part of the deal, I guess.

Here:
http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=21&a=32228

Galliani is quoted for saying that "RO has NEVER been part of the negotiations and deal for Ronaldo coming to Milan. We will probably continue talks about RO but there is still nothing certain about it."
This is why Galliani is still in madrid to negotiate the possible transfer of RO to Real M till the last minutes of the transfer window.

Romario has even better record, and he's still active. Maybe he can be the saviour ?
These stats are fantastic but mean Zero atm ! He was injured a lot, spent a lot of time on the bench, and scored mostly against third class teams this year.
If he finds his form from 7-8 years ago, he can be lethal and useful, but that's one HUGE IF !

(Still rate him as a good transfer, tho. It's only for 1 1/2 year , and Milan won't lose anything. But don't fool yourselves he'll be the one who'll bring the glory to Milan, the glory from previous years)

some last words from real madrid on ronaldo's departure. :D

Ronaldo transferred to AC Milan

Real Madrid CF sealed off the transfer of Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima to AC Milan this evening.
At this time, Real Madrid wish to acknowledge what this most unique of footballers has contributed to the team and the Club throughout his time here: moments of superb football that the Madridistas will never forget.

Ronaldo has scored 104 goals donning the white shirt, his numbers in keeping with one of the best players ever to have worn the number “9” shirt for our Club.

On the day of his official goodbye, Real Madrid want to reiterate how greateful the Club is to Ronaldo, wish him every sporting success and, above all, all the happiness in the world.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND LOTS OF LUCK, RONALDO.

I think you are very wrong Tony29. His only bench time was under the regime of Capello . Also his goals have been against big opponents. Its unfair to judge what has happened this season.

Yeah i agree! i think hes better than Oliviera.. its harsh but hes second best to Ronaldo. In the summer we got him because we couldnt get Ronaldo...

About Caracciolo ive heard stories that hes cup tied, if we are indeed after another cup tied player i would prefer Cassano over Caracciolo.. plus stories of Bojinov.. i spose we will have to wait until tomorrow...

Its unfair to judge what has happened this season.
Actually, it's fair.
It's not fair to judge his entire carierre, but if we want to make a prediction on how good he'll be in Milan, then last year should be our starting point, especially if we're dealing with someone who's 30 years old.

I say it again how i love Ronaldo the footballer and how he's the best attacker i had a chance to watch in my life, but he's a player who was injured most of the time this year, a player who never (except for one month at the WC 4 years ago) found his best form again after that idiot injured him some 7 years ago in Inter, a player who wasn't playing much after he came back from his latest injury, and a player who's in decline, i must say.

I'll do a Zlatanov now and i'll say it's calculated risk, because 7.5 M isn't something that may influence Milan's summer transfer window. That's what makes this purchase acceptable.
Apart from that, i don't see much good in this transfer ( except for making you the happiest man on earth, and i like people to be happy :) )

sorry about my previous reply, i didn't read your post properly. :ban:

Anyway I think you are forgetting his first two seasons at Real, or even his return from injury for Inter, where he scored a brace. Who could forget his hattrick vs ManU? Also last season Ronaldo started in ripping form and some idiot from Bilbao aimed a nasty tackle straight at his ankle...he was on a hattrich and even after the tackle the ball went into the goal....I know I am a real Ronaldo fan but I find it harsh to blame him for being the subject of suc violent tackles.....maybe he has to hearn to jump over tackles like Maradonna used to do......can't say dive because Inzaghi would get even more insecure :D

I only wanted this transfer to happen if we got him for free (like it was first reported) and if he didn't get a huge salary. It seems like his salary is not big and I definatly think he is NOT the most paid person in the club which is good.(if anyone has the correct numbers on his contract please post)
We didn't get him for free but I have to admit that the price we paid for Ronaldo is really low and I can't complain so I'll take it. I mean the guy is as old as Sheva and nobody here wrote Sheva off so why should be write Ronaldo off. He is nowhere near the player he was and he is nowhere near the commanding forward he once was......however after reading all these stats on him it seems like even though he is not commanding and ripping through defences he still gets his goals somehow. I'll settle for that as that is what we need the most right now.
The next good thing is that he is only tied with us for a year and a half which is nothing so it is good that the managment is not looking at him as a long term solution.
So basically we got one of the best forwards ever to wear our shirt. We didn't pay big money and his contract is not sky high. He is not old as he should be in his prime and a little fitness and good will (he seems to have the will from what we see) may prove him to be very important for us. Players sometimes need new challenges and new surroundings. Let's hope he does great with us and help us score some goals.

Good luck Ronaldo!

IL FENONEMO IS COMING BACK TO MILAN, THIS TIME IN THE RED PART OF THE CITY! DREAM COMES TRUE! wondering what number he will wear at milan, i think the best number for him currently available is 90!

it is interesting to see whether oliveira is loaned to madrid as part of deal or not. if he moves, we will buy his replacement before transfer window is closed or maybe milan trust willy aubameyang instead!
cassano-oliveira swap is nice, but unfortunately cassano can not play in CL!

Seems like our management still thinks it's 1996. They seem to be really excited about Ronnie's arrival. You guys see his name in gold on the official website? It's a bit over the top if you ask me...If this was Ronaldinho, then sure, but Ronaldo---after having a poor worldcup, frozen out at Real Madrid, sold to us at a cut price? We should be excited, but also realistic....Seems like our managment is in love with the past---Rivaldo, Vieri, Cafu (still starting until Oddo's arrival), Billy (cant believe he's still starting in coppa italia games)....Hmmm, come to think of it, Van Basten still looks in good shape :)

My minds exactly rt9. I hoped he'll get to milan as humble as he can be and start working all over again. After all, its almost a year since he last play 'good'. And then they make it like we bought the best player in the word in a heartbreaking transfer action. And they're really trying to pump his ego sky-high, so when he makes his first step on san siro he will already know hes the man, he'll start chit-chatting with seedorf in the middle and wait for the ball to come by... jeeez.

Think about it logically. Ronaldo's one guarantee is shifting shirts, so it's only natural the club will make a big fuss over the transfer. The more exposure it gets and the more excitement we create, the more likely it becomes that cash comes back to us.

As for the management loving the past, look at why we got or kept those four players.

- Rivaldo: available for free after a fantastic world cup in 2002. Not many clubs would have thought it was bad transfer at the time.
- Vieri: Popular amongst our players already (benefits him fitting into the squad) and was never brought as a starter imo, but could have been a very useful squad player.
- Cafu: for a couple of years he was still argubly the best right wing back in the world. Since then yes his age caught up, but we struggled to get an adequate replacement, and until Oddo's arrival (finally), we didn't have someone to play that role.
- Billy: doesn't play anything but Coppa matches. Looking at the lineup last night, in a must win match against an almost full strength Roma side, it doesn't seem we took the competition too seriously.

Yes, I agree with you, we shouldnt let this transfer occur quietly, but there is no sense hyping it up to this scale when Ronaldo's form on the pitch has been poor as of late. After all, it is his form on the pitch that should be the primary concern. The thing is, we're hyping him up as if we signed him from Barca in 1997!!! This is 2007, and we got him for a cut-price because he was deemed as surplus of requirements at Madrid for being overweight, off form, and having a bad influence on his teammates. That's the truth.

Secondly, our management does live in the past:

Rivaldo--Barca released him because they did not see him as being part of the team's future plans and would rather not continue paying his extravagant salary. They had the foresight to part company with him before he proved to be a burden to their squad. As for the 2002 WC, yes he did have a decent world cup, but if there was a player that we should have picked up based on his WC performance and based on some long-term vision, it would have to be Ronaldinho, not Rivaldo. Ronaldinho was a prospect for the present and distant future, RIvaldo was a dream of the past.

Bobo Vieri--NOt necessarily signed for the bench. He came to us because he wanted to re-ignite his WC selection chances. We signed him expecting him to play like he did in his Inter/Lazio days. In fact, he was signed as a replacement for Crespo, and remember Crespo was our starting striker the year before. THe reason he left was because his form was so poor that we could not afford to keep playing him, hence hurting his WC chances. ANd so he left for more playing time. Again, we're in love with the beautiful past, not realizing that a player is past his prime.

Cafu--Yes he played well in his first couple of seasons with us. But it wasnt like he was disclosing his age was he? Everyone know how old he was, and everyone knows that nothing lasts forever. So why didnt we sign Oddo a couple of seasons ago and groom him as Cafu's eventual replacement. Why wait til Cafu proves to be a liability as right back BEFORE signing a replacement? Doesnt make any sense to me, if you KNOW that you have a 34 year old right back and do nothing to replace him until he cant run anymore.

Billy---Any other year, and the COppa Italia is meaningless. THis year it is probably our only hope for domestic silverware. Billy should not play unless all of our other starting centerbacks are injured. He is a great influence in the training pitch and dressing room, but his age has caught up with him. He is simply not good enough to play for us anymore, and we shouldnt be playing him, even in Coppa Italia games, and especially against a team like Roma. What were we thinking?

I'm not trying to be overly negative, but this is one aspect of our management that pisses me off. I think we need to have the right balance between nostalgia and forward thinking and I think we tend to look at players more based on what they have done in the past rather than what they can contribute to our project in the long term. That is, if we even have a clear-cut "project".

ACMILAN1983

Honestly, I disagree with you in pretty much every regard there. There's no point in subduing the Ronaldo transfer because he doesn't seem to look as great as he used. The management are only milking the only guarantee we have with this transfer, Ronaldo's form and football is a seperate issue, one that should be considered by other parts of Milan (namely Milanlab and the coaches). If you have opportunity to make a shed load of cash, then you take it and be ruthless doing it.

of the 4 players you mentioned.

Rivaldo - He was a temporary solution to our midfield. Getting him on a free was a bargain (whether he failed or not) and buying Ronaldinho would have come at a cost. Don't forget, it was only about a year later we got Kaka, meaning we probably had him in mind while we got Rivaldo (I'd call that building for the future).

Vieri - May have come to play for the WC, and had is form been good enough then fine. But I doubt he was bought as an expected starter, seeing as our replacement for Crespo happened to be Gila that summer, not Vieri (again, Gila is young and one for the future).

Cafu - You don't sign someone like Oddo or Zambrotta (2 known targets) to groom them into Cafu's role at right back, when they come they're immediate replacements. Cafu probably could have been replaced sooner, but as far as I see, the real aim was to replace him last summer (or maybe the summer before), but due to unfortunate negotiations and calciopoli, Cafu had to be relied on for more than desired.

Billy - I don't see what worth the Coppa Italia really brings us this year. I would rather still treat it as the second rate competition it is and look to focus on our targets. Besides we're still not giving up on CL and at the knockout stages it's impossible to say what could happen.

You can't say we don't have any thoughts for our long term development. Over the past couple of summers or so we have gotten Kaka, Gila, Gourcuff and Bonera, all of whom are showing potential to be long term solutions. Our spine now also consists of Nesta, Pirlo and Gattuso, all of whom still have at least a few years left at the top. Due to rule changes in CL and our situation with cash due to Italian regulations, we have focused heavily on youth and potentially have some decent long term prospects coming through including Aubameyang, Faccin, Di Gennaro, Guerci, Damian, Antonelli, Bruscagin, Bottini, Lunati and Marzoratti (already has good Serie A experience now). We can't afford to always keep buying new stars because costs are insane with Italian clubs already disadvantaged compared to England and Spain, and due to upcoming changes in UEFA competitions where clubs need players from their own ranks (a reason such strong bids were made for Oddo).

Now, if Berlusconi is really choosing the players Milans manager ( in this case Carlo ) will have in their team, than we are not doing proper technical work in Milanello.

Berlusconi has always chosen the players and the managers : he went to Holland and came back with Gullit, got Van Basten after watching 15 goals of him on tapes, chose Sacchi when he was a lower team coach and Capello when he had no top club experience.

Milan 's history is this : we don't let coaches rule the club. Our board rule the club and ask the coach an opinion. I think Carlo's opinion is important, but the club won before him and will win after him. That's why we have had this kind of continuity in the last 20+ years
