I think the Rossoneri need a striker to suppliment Gila and Ronaldo and Pippo are getting older and could be useful off of the bemch or as mentors for younger players.
I have heard names like Eto' and Sheva, but the asking price seems steep. Another name that could be good for us is Adriano, who has had two bad years for Inter.
Thoughts??

I think Milan could use a player like Samuel Eto'. It seems like he is not happy at Barca' and maybe a move to Milan is just what he needs to get his career back on track.
I feel our defence needs some new faces. Many times we have let in goals after gaining the lead (though some may feel this is due to Dida).
Bonera may need more time to settle, Simic and Favalli aren't great, Oddo is good but not always consistent (same with Kala) and Maldini cant play every game. Janku isn't really a defender, while Serginho needs to regain fitness. Cafu is no longer his old self Grimi will be loaned out to gain experience.
I'm just not sure who we can buy ...

Simic, Favalli, Cafu, and maybe Serginho should not be in the Milan squad anymore. We needed to replace these defenders. Nesta, Bonera, Jaku, Oddo, Kala, and Maldini are fine. We need one midfielder, and a attacker.
Biggest need from my view : world class left-fullback (its a bonus if he can play on the right). Jankulovski is just not enough.
One AMC who has creativity, can dribble, run and also quite good in marking and stopping the ball (Seedorf in the past ;D )
Striker? I dont think its our biggest need. We have Ronaldo, Gila, Inzaghi and Oliviera. Compare to 2 seasons ago, Sheva is replaced by Ronaldo.

Uh-uh. He said he's not coming over here and that he's staying at Barca, especially now that Henry has joined the ranks.
AC Milan's biggest need is
Jon Dahl Tomasson ;)
Apart from getting a striker I do believe we need a world class centre back to continue our tradition of having the best defenders. I cannot stand Bonera, Maldini has had major injury worries while Kaladze has been reasonably good.
With a player like Chivu on the market who can also play as a leftback, I find it strange that we sont even seem interested in him. The only reasoning I can think of is that Milan feel he is injury prone.
While Im on the subject of defenders, what ever happened to Vincent Kompany? Is he just another Hofland?
I love this quote from Kompany by the way:
"Chelsea approached me one and a half years ago but I told them no," Kompany said. "I'm not crazy. Chelsea is a factory. If you are No 26 on their pay list, you are No 26 on the field too. I did not want to play Russian roulette with my career."
if Kompany goes to Milan, It will be a great great addition. 190cm tall, 20 years old, great talent.

true ... he is a wall at Hamburg ... even saved them from relegation :D
A new LB and two centre backs.
true ... he is a wall at Hamburg ... even saved them from relegation :D
This year, hamburg doesn't seem to be so struggled. At the end of the season they were in safe position:D. Compared to Gourcuff, I think Kompany <in Hamburg> is better than Gourcuff <in Rennes>:D
Sleep you cant compare players like that as both of them plays in different
positions and further more are worlds apart in playing styles.
Kompany is a defender while Gourcuff is an Attacking Midfielder/Playmaker.
Their roles in the team is Poles apart ( North-South ) and its very naive to
even think of comparing them >_<
Of course it's not good to compare them. But what I reaaly mean is if Kompany goes to Milan, we can love him as much as Gourcuff, and we can put our hope in him <as rennes is not better than hamburg, and Kompany is even more famous than Gourcuff before we signed him>
i think samuel eto is definitely overrated, let him in spain, we realy dont need a player like him. i would try to land big zambrotta, i think hes the best left- and rightback in the world.
A new center back, but not an old free agent one please. We got Pancaro for free and he did well for a year, but that's all, he's finished. Last year we signed Favalli and as a back up I think he too played well and even managed to score. But he's too old for a back up next year. I hope the club bring one or two young lads and let them learn from such champions as Paolo and Alessandro.
Our 2nd biggest need IMO is a striker. Not the kind of selfish one who skims the bar much more often than hits the net, nor the dopey kind.
We need a younger and more mobile midfield.

we need a new player in each line, they must be quite young+ we need a big name to support Kaka
Simic, Favalli, Cafu, and maybe Serginho should not be in the Milan squad anymore. We needed to replace these defenders. Nesta, Bonera, Jaku, Oddo, Kala, and Maldini are fine. We need one midfielder, and a attacker.
:respect: we need the best defender to replace them. Also 1 AM and 1 striker
:bri:
1 or 2 players in each department for me. Though in defence i'd ideally like 3 new faces, a LB, a RB and a CB to replace Costacurta, Simic, Favalli and possibly one of Serginho & Cafu (though i'm loathed to say that). Zambrotta & Pasqual would be great and maybe an offer for Toure to test both his and Arsenal's resolve now their talisman has gone. If not Zambrotta then Alves & Pasqual.
In midfield i would have liked Tiago, but as he's been taken either Ze Roberto or Maresca would be fine to replace Brocchi. Personally i would have also liked to have taken a chance on Barusso and loaned him out, but for some reason he seems to much of a risk now to the management.
In attack there are so many possibilities, but i think we need a reliable goalscorer who can guarantee 20 league goals a season. Inzaghi & Oliveira won't do this and neither will Gilardino unless he finds a dramatic turn in form over the summer. Ronaldo can do this but his fitness and motivation is still questionable at times, so he's not completely reliable. Pato seems a good option for the future and maybe a look at Drogba might not be such a bad idea. Someone like Van Persie could also be useful to help Kaka out and would be alot cheaper than Ronaldinho. I'm not saying buy all these forwards, but there are plenty of players out there who could help take our forward line to the next step.
It really depends on which formation will be the MAIN one for next year. If it's the 4-3-2-1 that we used in the latter stages of the CL, then we would need a good defensive midfielder aka Tiago or Emerson to start alongside Pirlo and Rino or even cover for Ambrosini who is more than certain to be spending time on the sidelines given his injury proneness.
If Seedorf and Kaka were our attacking mids, I think Gourcuff is good cover for them both and IMO should be starting more games. Our one striker would be Ronaldo, Gila, and Pippo. So maybe another expensive striker would be superfluous.
Now if we were to revert back to the 4-3-1-2 formation, things change. We would then need a fast second striker who will help Kaka link up the midfield to our target man. Someone like Henry would have fit the bill, but we all know where he is now. I'm not the biggest fan of Etoo as well--that ego of his may cause problems in the dressing room. How can we assure him a starting spot when we have Ronaldo, Gilardino, and Inzaghi also in the squad?

Need a new forward and defender.
i think eto is the best option fro milan at the moment
We seem to be linked to Ronaldinhio yet again. My question is do we really need him or is he a luxury that will hurt our game play.
Ronaldinho will never hurt anybody's game play
I think we need is a striker like Eto'o, Villa, Ibrahimovic or Adriano and of course more than 2 defenders maybe Mexes, Zambrotta etc, but what we really need so much is player like Pato he is young and have talent so he will be perfect sign for Milan. Options ???

Milan definetely need a young player more specifically a young striker as Vulli was saying. Alexandre Pato would be a great insertment into the Rossoneri lineup. I think Milans average player age is 30 which is a bit to old for my liking so by bringing in Pato it provides a explosive spark to Milan's offence.
Milan's biggest need: get rid of the brazilian obsession.
why Grenoli? because we have won titles with them?
why Grenoli? because we have won titles with them?
No, but because we're an ITALIAN side, if you have forgotten that. :)
Italian players must form the squad's core.
Ronaldinho will never hurt anybody's game play
Where would you play him. Part of a front three with Kaka and Ronaldo or in Seedorf's role. Personally I see problems with both as he wont work back like Seedorf and if he plays in a front three with Kaka and Ronaldo we will miss a "Fox in the box" type of striker to get the scrappy goal that we oh so need in a tough match against a PSV Eindhoven.
No, but because we're an ITALIAN side, if you have forgotten that. :)

If permiership sides decided to go with mostly English players then I personally feel it would go back to the days where they struggle to get out of the group stages, let alone have 3 teams in the last 4.
Besides if the best players on the market are not Italian then why should we sign Italian. I think Milan already has enough Italians.

With the arrival of Pato I thinkour forward line is complete though he will only be elgible to play only from the 2nd of January still I think before january Gilardino, Inzaghi and Ronaldo can do the job. Though in my opinion our basic need even before the transfer window started was a goalkeeper to replace Dida. Since Dida played really poorly in the second part of the season and almost knocked us out from the Champion league by his horrible keeping against Manchester and Munich. I just hope we can replace him or find a good back-up for him, which could have been Abbati but he has now been loaned to Atheltico.
Abbiati won't come as 2nd keeper as he believes a Number 1, and Dida despite his occasional mistakes is better than him. I'd take Abbiati over Kalac, or any of our other keepers, but he wouldn't accept Dida as number one. We have more urgent worries like a proper LB, better cover in CD, DM, and another striker.

He did not play "poorly" in the second half of the season, save for the aforementioned matches. Also, the zebra Abbiati left in the first place because he got tired of warming the bench.

If not for an injury which saw Abbiati giving his spot to dida, he could have been one of the best goalie in the world today. But credits for Dida for taking the chance to shine when he got that chance and replace Abbiati as our No.1. Abbiati was one of my fav players, sad to see him being loan all over.

Biggest need is a new center back to pair with Nesta.
Maldini is a legend but he is a step slower than every top class striker (and two steps slower after 60' in a game.)
Bring in a top talent center back and Maldini will tutor him..

Price shouldn't be the issue here for any of those guys. We made so much money from the CL last season that we should be spending like crazy. The problem is the management's unwillingness to spend even one penny on improving this team. They always take the cheapest option there is instead of the best one. You can't tell me that one of the richest clubs in the world cannot afford one Samuel Eto'o. That is flat out BS.

I'm not sure if it was injury to Abbiati that forced him. I think it was more of a coaching preference. If im not mistaken, it was either Cesare Maldini (interim coach after Zac was fired) or Terim or Carlo who chose Dida ahead of Abbiati. As far as I remember, Abbiati was always a favorite of Zac and got his chance after Jens Lehmann had a prolonged injury in his one and only season with us.
Personally, i dont like Abbiati very much. He's very acrobatic, but IMO not consistent enough. Given the choice I would take Dida over him any day.....Alright BMW, I hope the check is in the mail :)
I don't normally do this, but I’m starting to seriously panic right about now. There is not way we will win the Scudetto with this squad. And if you listen to Ancelotti and the players, it seems like they have realized that fact too. All they talk about is the European super cup, the World cup and the Champions league. Furthermore, Galliani is talking about Kaka as a striker, which indicates we are going with the 4-3-2-1 system that won us the CL last season. That’s fine in CL and against bigger teams (I actually think it should be used more often than it has been under Ancelotti), but at home, and against smaller teams in Serie A, the 4-3-1-2 is vastly superior. Again; even the management has given up the Scudetto!
Don’t misunderstand me, our starting eleven is the best in the world. It’s the squad I am worried about. Because when Ancelotti starts resting players for the mid-week CL match, our team gets seriously weakened. And I haven’t even mentioned injuries yet! We have three, 3, strikers, of which two are extremely injury pruned (Ronaldo and Inzaghi). And in midfield it’s just as bad. Seven players for four positions (or five, in the 4-3-2-1). We only really have cover for the hard fighting midfielder-type (Gattuso, Ambrosini and Brocchi). Our only cover for Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaka is an unproven, although extremely talented, 20 year old (Gourcuff). Only at the back do we have adequate cover, although some players are getting older. Still most people in this forum seem to think this is our biggest worry.
I won’t end by listing players I want. Right now, any descent midfielder and striker will do. Even Emerson.
In the meantime I pray nobody gets injured tonight.
Personally, i dont like Abbiati very much. He's very acrobatic, but IMO not consistent enough. Given the choice I would take Dida over him any day.....Alright BMW, I hope the check is in the mail :)
Abbiati not consistent? Its his consistent acrobatic performance that play such an important part in us winning the scudetto back in 1999. I really can't agree with you on the consistency part. Dida and abbiati are similar keepers who can save difficult shots but always make errors on high balls. Abbiati > Dida in acrobatic stunts though.
I am quite sure its an minor injury that force abbiati out and let Dida has a run as the No.1 and after that abbiati find it difficult to break into the team anymore because Dida is doing well and the coach prefer not to change. There was also a very long thread here arguing about whether we should use back abbiati or continue with Dida.
I don't support Milan but I can't see them signing anyone, They need BIG names, They're European champions and there best squad is: Ronaldo, Kaka, Pirlo, Gattuso, Nesta..
I heard Ronaldinho and maybe Eto' might move..
When does the Transfer market close? How long have they got?

BTW, I know Donati is gone, but where is Dalla Bona????
LOL. BMW, remind me to ask for cash next time.
@hwmook: Abbiati can be the subject of some pretty polarizing debate---much like Dida! But you are right in the sense that he played a huge role in us winning the league in 1999. The problem though is that after that I didnt feel he showed too much consistency, and while still making unbelievable saves, would let in some pretty soft goals. I'm not saying Dida is rock solid (okay BMW, I'll return the check :)), but compared to Abbiati, and given a long season with decisive games, I feel he is more consistent, and less prone to conceding "soft" goals, so to speak. I guess in the end its just a matter or preference. But you'll have to agree that with Buffon or Cech in our goalkeeping department, we'd be able to watch most Milan games with a heart rate of less than 100...As of now, each time a corner or a free kick comes in, I'm freaking out :)

Like i said, abbiati and dida are exactly the same type of keeper, they save near certain goals and let in soft goals especially balls coming from corners or crosses. I am scared whenever i see any opponents who keep trying to play long balls into our penalty area. The only solution is to get a more solid keeper but don't expect them to save our arse from near certain goals. I remember being so impressed with abbiati that i told my brother there is no way anybody can score in a 1 on 1 situation against abbiati. Remember the semi final 2nd leg against inter in 2003 UCL, abbiati save from martins in a 1 on 1 situation in the final minutes. Martins was totally clear and only abbiati remain but i was so confident that abbiati will save our arse and he did.
I have been thinking of our team keeper after Dida who is surely on his last legs, i wonder who is good enough to take over him.
As of now, each time a corner or a free kick comes in, I'm freaking out :)
So Do I!!! :bri:
I know, nothing makes the heart flutter like AC Milan defending a free kick and Dida flapping at the air....:)
I don't why ACM is keeping d!da after all what he has done in the past 3 seasons :wallbang:

Abbiati is not even close to being close to Dida when it comes to super saves. Dida have made some of the most incredible saves I ever seen, while Abbiati sometimes made simple saves look difficult. he will mostly be remembered for that save in the last round against Reggina. Some people like me also remember us leaking loads of goals all years with him as first keeper and that freekicks felt like penalties against him.

I think David Copperfield from FC. Magic Box would suit our needs in adding depth in creating chances to score goals for our side... :D
Seriously, there are so many similar thread like this in this forum. So, this thread has to be merged... :D
We have already had a strong, balanced line-up, and we have good morale after a difficult but succesful season, a long break without silly around-the-world friendly matches help us to maintain physical fitness :pp20: . When MilanLab operates effectively (the case of Ronaldo), and no serious injuries, what we need is only for back-up:
Goalkeeper: Only Buffon and Cech are better than our Dida, but both do not have the skill at penalty stopping as him :5ok: . Kalac is not World Class, but he can do so so in some Serie A matches with small teams. I think he only lack of confident, if our managers keep him than Storari then there are reason for it.
Centerback: Nesta is the best, Maldini is used to be the best but he passed it with his age, Kala lack something to be the best but not many CB better than him. When 2 of them stand in front of Dida, we can relieved. With Simic, Digao and maybe Darmian as reserve, we have some depth. But an addition of Cannavaro from Real is still good as we have many trophies to achieve.
Right back: Oddo is one of the best RB in the world, his attacking skill and crossing are not great. But the right flank of Milan with him and Gattuso is very hard to breakthrough. Cafu is a good back-up, sometime Simic and Bonera can play there, too. This season have no problem, next season do when Cafu may retire.
Left back: In contrast with Oddo, Janku is not good at defending but attacking, he left a large space behind him. However, if the rest of our defence force consist of: Oddo, Nesta and Maldini/Kala, we can cover him. The case of Serginho is alike. When we need a castle, Oddo-Nesta-Maldini-Kaladze can be used. :devf:
But for perfection, we actualy need someone like Cannavaro so we can rotate our defence well, and can push Kaladze to left flank when needed.
Midfielders: Kaka is the best, no wonder about is. Pirlo, Gattuso and Seedorf are not the best, but together, the four form a really "fantasic four" four us, or "Four Gentlemens" from 2002 (with Rui Costa for Kaka). Now we have Brocchi, Ambro, Gorky and Emerson, barely backed up.
For perfection, we need someone can breakthrough the defence like Kaka; Seedorf and Gorky can not do it well. So Baptista from Real is a good choice. RM again... but if not, it is not critical, because in January Pato can play.
Forwards: With 3 great finisher Ronaldo, Pippo and Gila, a backup name Aubameyang. The problem is they are great at finish (not Gila now :D) but not good at cooperation. Aubameyang still have many to learn. A support forward is needed. But Pato will be at front-line in January and Kaka can be pushed forward, too. So we do not have to be worry. Howerver, the arrival of Adirano or JB is welcome.
At last, our squad is enough already. But for the worst injury nightmare and a row of 60 matches to play, some players like: Cannavaro, Baptista and Adriano are needed. The first two are more realistic :D :diablo:

Lol we definitely give dida way to little credit, he probably did amasing compared to goalkeepers such as doni yet they get all the credit and he doesnt.. ATM i think cech, buffon, dida and doni are the best in the world. What we could use though is a juninho :| i know pirlo is amasing at free kicks but juninho scores every freek kick easily.. i dont know how he does it, if he improved his technique while running and moves to take out multiple players at once i'd like to wonder who could compare.. but we don't need a player of his position. how old is he?
This is what actually bothers me: With this team we can still win CL, no doubt about it. But with just 2 more palyers we would be the no.1 team without a doubt.
1. Baptista - he would tame the same role as he has in Brazil, Kaka's replacement. Or Seedorf's. Could have been bought for sure.
2. Zacardo - not world class, but a good italian player that knows everything about smart football and can play on both flanks. Since Cafu and Serginho/Favalli cant be used in big matches, this would be a perfect saolution for us.
Well, january here we come :)

Milan biggest need is to have MORE players you can rely on when you do rotation or you have problems with injuries. you cant have Brocchi or Favalli coming in when your goal is to win the Scudetto.
Especially in defense, Milan needs a very good center back to pair with Nesta (Coloccini was never the answer and will never be), a left back and a midfielder who can play in the wings (so we can change our -easily predicted- game style), like Valencia's Silva. he might be really expensive but i think he is worth it. great player.
What is more, next summer we need to get a good GK as well.
Finally, i just wanna note that we could have gotten this summer Ribery and have an amazing midfield for the next 5 years AT LEAST. Bayern got him and now his price is at least 2 times what they spend to get him from Marseille...

The Golden Age back line members need to be replaced with good young (20's) players like Benfica's Luisao, Gallas, Zacardo and Gilberto of Hertha Berlin. Daniel Carvalho of CSKA Moskow, Quaresma and Baptista can fit in the Middle. The fron line needs a fit #99 and Gila sit in the stands and watch.

after the catania game, i thought we were in pretty bad shape in the serie a, but then after the UCL game vs. celtic i was sure we were in bad shape in general. so in this thread i want to see everyone's solution, not transfers and new coaches, but with our current players(not even R9,Capitino, or Pato) because if this goes on we might be out of contention of all the championships(excluding Club WC). plus, if you are gonna bash me for this thread then its better to not post anyway.
PS:- Liked the positve thoughts thread, this maybe similair.
AC Milan will be back to its best as soon as Paolo Maldini returns to action and Kalac gets more starts :5ok: , we need brave players in our team not match losers :bri:
oops forgot my own solution....
Play GOURCUFF, he sped up our play, really, when he enterd most attacks came from him.

We need to play more offensively, we need to pose a threat on the teams we meet. Before, teams feared Milan. That's not the case anymore because we sit back and defend most of the time, and when we attack we do it with 2-3 players. No team is scared by that.
We need to step up and say: "Here comes Milan, the best team in the world, get out of our way!!!"
It seems our team/coach has no confidence in their own abilities. That's what we need. Unfortunately confidence comes from good results, so we're pretty much in a bad circle these days...

Whilst San Paolo will bring back his aura of calmness, composure and professionalism no doubt boosting the morale and probably results of the team it's not a good long term solution. In all fairness this will be his last full season at the club and cannot play till he is 50, no matter how much some would like him to.
Last season showed that the squad blatantly needs investment to improve the quality of the starting 11, and more importantly the bench for a long hard season so we can rest key players and also keep them on their toes. We need more players who are hungry to win, hungry for trophies. We failed to do this for one reason or another in the summer and we are paying the price right now. I expected maybe we would face problems later in the season, but certainly not at this stage given we had the preparation time that Carlo moaned so adamantly at the lack of last year.
We are going through a bad stage, which we will get out of at some point, but I just don't know when. I'm more afraid if nothing changes we will end up in a situation like 97 all over again. Maybe Carlo wasn't listened to in the summer when he requested players, or maybe he wasn't forceful enough in his demands. No-one outside the club will know this so it can only be speculation.
I don't particularly like the we we play at the moment, it's far too pedestrian and not enough penetrating force in attack. Change is needed!
Forza Miiiillan!
Milan plays the same cool football as it did in the last 5 years since Ancelotti is the coach
This team still has a lot of potential
The only thing they should change is the formation from one match to another
Maybe it's time to try the 4-3-1-2 formation again and play with 2 strikers

So true, so true.
is simple what we need... a good striker coz Pipo is 35, ronaldo most of the time have injury, Glia can't score continually, and Pato is good but maybe is still to young, i think Huntelar, then a difender coz grande Maldini can't play in evry game and i do not see Kalaze as good replacement so barzagli or Mexes are great zambrotta too and a goalkeeer maybe good option is Amelia... The main reason next to lacking confidence is that Italian teams figured us out.
We must try and DARE to change our tactics and formations.
I would love to see Gourcuff,Seedorf and Kaka,Gila upfront against those smaller teams.
We need to start scoring regular goals instead of gambling on penaltys.
There's mention of Peruzzi on another site for the kpr position. If that happens, then they can just go to hell.
I doubt it very much. He retired even though he knew he'll play CL with Lazio, after many years without CL.
He will never come back from retirement.
If he didn't retire then , even though his age, he would have been a perfect choice for the period January-May, before Milan bought their new #1.
Remember that last year he was the best goalkeeper in serie A.
But there is not a chance Milan to sign Peruzzi now, so don't worry.
Milan's biggest need is the fan's support and faith.

Dida is Dida keeps clean sheets in all competitions and we score no goals we would only get 38 points in Serie A and 6 points in CL... problem not solved...then Dida isn't the problem
Milan's biggest need is to get rid of those who won't get behind the players when they are playing bad games. These supporters certainly won't help.
It's easy to criticise the policy now but 3 European Cup finals in 5 years is why management won't change what they believe to be a winning formula. Our squad has been exposed this season. Ronaldo's absence is a blessing in disguise because none of this would be an issue had he been fit. IF we don't make the right reinforcements in January then it's open season on the board.

Why not? people here are sooo fast to criticise Gilardino. Other than the champ league we havent won anything since 04/05.
Renember it was Galliani who got us the -8 penalty last year, and due to the managements naive behavior its making things stupidly hard for us this season.

yeah, right. what clean sheets?
have you seen last night's game? ANY average keeper would save both goals.

Ok, then tell me what you have on the table to make it better. Give me some realistic solutions, not just like "Gila SuX" or "Dida should never play for Milan".
What do you mean other than the Champions League? We've won it twice in 5 years, clubs like Man United, Barcelona and Juve have won it twice in 50! The fact that people keep downplaying our Champions League successes shows how spoilt some of us have become. As for the league in 2005-2006 we scored 85 goals and had the third best defence. Everyone knows Calciopoli was the only reason we didn't win the scudetto that season - just look back to the two games against Juve. Winning silverware and building fantastic squads is something that only happens in Championship Manager.
Galliani I will not defend, every second word that comes out of his mouth is a lie.
FFS what is this fascination with Zambrotta? He's 30, he had an average season at Barca last year and both Oddo and Jankulovski are better. You criticise the board for signing too many old players and want one who is as old as the other fullbacks and not as good.
Opinions!!? :uhm: Of course agree especialy about Hauntelaar and Zambrotta and may be Barzagli and if we get Amelia also it would be great, however, and mark my words no one of them will join Milan next year, may be Hauntelaar will but all Barzagli, Amelia, Zambrotta and Mexes is some kind of scince fiction just like Ronaldinho.
I don't rate Barzagli. Napoli's defence has been excellent this season it may not be a bad idea to take a look at Paolo Cannavaro.
Ok, then tell me what you have on the table to make it better. Give me some realistic solutions, not just like "Gila SuX" or "Dida should never play for Milan".
The funny thing is that whenever we do our ideas are criticized as being ridiculous by others :o (this is not an indictment against you Jeff because you don't really comment about which theories would succeed/fail :respect: )
Dida is NOT a bad keeper...but there are certain players that have certain strengths and weeknesses. There are MANY occasions where Cech and Buffon make comical errors....but these go unseen because there are other supporting players to help. Look at replays of Chelsea or Italy in particular and you'd see the sheer number of goal-line clearances that Makalele, Essien Terry and Juventus'/ Italian defenders.
Unfortunately, it seems that everyone understands that to score against Milan is a simple matter of working an intricate set piece. Dida- with his tic-tac sized attention span would easily be distracted by a decoy attacker (usually the first shooter) only for the real attacker to exploit the space.
The solution to this would be to have a real midfield dynamo such as Essien play for us. I suspect management recognised this need in getting Emerson but let's face it Emerson doesn't understand how things work at Milan. He is also too old IMHO to be the dominant presence that he once was. Gattuso really does his best and has the heart of a lion but he isn't athletic enough or technical enough....neither is he fast enough to do it all on his own.
The other problem is that our attack has no real bite....meaning that we're often forced to protect one goal leads...which are the hardest to protect (unless we're three goals up :guw: ) This again is because our midfield, while world class and superb- isn't.....or at least isn't PRESENTLY able to cope with the direction that modern football is headding. it's becomming more about speed and fitness than real genuine skill. It's hard to find anyone more skilled than Pirlo and Seedorf but their talents become suppressed when surrounded by much faster opponents...even if these are less technical.....I think if we have someone other than Kaka to get the ball up quickly (which, of course Kaka playing as striker doens't help), then we'd see more of a resurgence in attack......in other words we needed a Quaresma type player- at least until Pato is ready to play-which of course again doesn't guarantee success. Gorcuff adds nothing to our team that we don't already have because he's also quite slow.....add this to his inexperience and he actually becomes a liability, despite his unquestionable skill..
But don't worry like I said Ronaldo is going to help us out of this mess :5ok:

Players who i think we should at least make a bid between now and next season
Alessandro Rosina
He is currently having his contract neogations with Torino and Milan could get in and offer him £2 mill a season which is double what he is on atm. Rosina is a big talent and could play in our x-mas tree formation or play in a wide role. Even play in Kaka's role if need be. Last season he pretty much carried Torino and to honest i would be angry if he went to Juve or Inter.
Pasquale or Chiellini
Although i love Zambrotta, pasquale might be better longterm and cheaper option than Chiellini. With Maldini retiring and Cafu + Favalli reaching the end of there career it would be worth us spending money at LB where we can get a semi-experienced young player who could be trusted in the role. Chiellini would be my first choice as he is tall and a better defender than Pasquale.
Cigarini (pirlo sub)
When Cigarini came on for Parma he pretty much opened the game up on us. Hes crossing was pretty good, and plus he could also play in Ambros role and go forward like how Maresca can. Hes wage however wouldnt be that high, and he wouldnt be as much of a risk as youth is on his side and it wouldnt be like buying Emerson. This season we have really lacked a decent sub for Pirlo without having overkill with defensive midfielders.
I will add some more players later when i get some time.
is Maresca still owned by Juve?

As you all know our form of late is concerning, rather it's far below our standards and the results have been awful. I think everyone here is upset about this, but I also do think many if not all of us believe things will improve drastically during the season (hopefully sooner than later). Everyone has their thoughts on the problems, though what the correct answer is no one can be sure. Anyway, to continue, I've thought about this and have tried to objectively find what areas need working on to try and get out of this rut:
Confidence
This for me is by far this biggest problem in the club right now. Despite attempts to reduce the pressure on the players by making statements about how we're all calm and things will be sorted very soon, I don't think there's any confidence right now, amongst the players especially.
This for me is most evident on the pitch, as the players look stressed, upset and like they really need support (glad to see the fans have responded of late).
These confidence issues are extremely difficult to handle, and they will attribute to most of our problems.
To deal with this, I think the biggest factor is we need a decent performance with a result, or someone influencial who can instill confidence in the players (something Ronaldo managed last year with his hype, this year both him and Maldini might have this effect). The first method (good performance, result) is more than possible as despite our bad run of results and form, we are still dominating every match.
Attack
Everyone is well aware of our attacking problems. It can well be argued that the management did poorly during the transfer campaign and thus now we're desperately suffering. This imo is partly true, as I felt we should have reinforced in attack (either with keeping Oliveira half a season or purchasing a solid squad player in the frontline). I say this because Pato isn't available until January and with Ronaldo's injury situation, we really are left with problems considering Gila and Inzaghi's poor form.
However, there's definately a silver lining. Ronaldo's recovery is going well now and he shouldn't be out too much longer, which will be a massive boost to the squad. Gila also is starting to perform better, even though his shooting is poor right now, his ability to hold the ball and lay it off for forward running midfielders (Kaka and Seedorf) is currently invaluable. That much for this half of the season should be enough to get a good run of results (as seen in the second half of last season). Pato is young but talented, so adding him in January will be very helpful and most importantly, will add depth to our attacking force.
Carlo is also criticised for not playing 2 forwards. However, considering the situation I don't think it's much of a viable option, as Gila and Pippo are terrible together and Aubameyang is clearly still not ready for the highest level. However, I do think using Gourcuff more would be better, especially instead of Brocchi is often used to provide an extra option in our midfield (his ability to attack and defend is what Carlo likes imo).
Defence
This is another big problem we have. The defence isn't bad right now, as we're not giving chances away easily, but there's a tendency to drop concentration during matches that lead to us being punished (a bit of bad luck, but as Carlo says we make our own luck).
It's a problem that's difficult to solve, as many of these defensive lapses are individual events that otherwise normally would not happen. Even if you train at it daily in training, these kinds of things are difficult to prevent in actual matches, and in our case I believe this is again related to our lack of confidence. The players have a tendency to panic, this leads to stress and thus mistakes are more likely to occur. Additionally, I think communication is an issue. We need to have someone on the field who can lead us defensively. Normally, this would be Maldini who communicates regularly on the pitch, but of course he isn't an option right now so I'd have to think Nesta should be given the responsibility to get the commands out to those in the defensive line (and others on set pieces), as he's by far our most accomplished and respected defender after Maldini, and has done a similar role in Lazio.
However, there's a lot to be positive about regarding individual performances, as Nesta, Janku and Oddo are all performing pretty well, and Bonera is continuing on from last season. Kaladze's not been too bad overall, but is usually a case of being hot and cold with his performance, difficult to predict what he will do.
Midfield
Much like the defence, looking at individuals we're not bad. Seedorf and Kaka haven't had particularly bad performances this season and Pirlo has been excellent. Rino and Ambro are performing to a reasonable standard, but essentially the problem isn't to do with individuals, it's to do with the collective unit.
Essentially, Gattuso and Ambro to begin with are doing a reasonable jobs considering their roles, but they end up staying deep when one should normally look to push forward and support attacking moves. Pirlo, Gattuso and Ambro play deep (often at the halfway line) and are very square, so when we're looking to move forward, the attacking trio are getting marked out and we end up moving side to side across the line as neither Ambro, Pirlo (who isn't expected to move forward as he's got the ball and looking to make the pass normally) or Gattuso are moving forward creating space with their movement. This also makes it difficult for the wing backs to push forward, as the opposition fullbacks have little pressure from our midfield which in Gattuso and Ambro's case (who play on the right and left respectively), should be trying to draw opposition players to them to create more space for others.
This in turn creates further problems, as Kaka and Seedorf are often forced back to try and pick up the ball and we end up with 2 players further up field against often 8-9 defenders minimum. Those odds aren't good for us, and even if a wing back gets in positions to cross, we only have one poacher (when a target man is better if alone in a box) available. Essentially, what I'm saying is we need to push higher up the field when attacking and we have to work for each other to open teams up.
Goalkeeper
Not much to say regarding this. I understand the management's decision to keep Dida as he started looking much more confident in the last month or two of last season, but really this season he's having a nightmare. Like Gila, his confidence is rock bottom and he needs as much support as he can get (something I don't see happening anytime soon looking at posts here).
Movement
As mentioned above, movement is key for us. We won't physically dominate opponents high up the field, but we have a lot of technical talent in our side, and this must be utilised. To do so, these players need space, and so it's up to them to make space for others and expect others to make space for them.
There aren't enough intelligent runs off the ball at the moment (actually, we seem completely disorganised when moving forward), and the play in general is far too static. Playing in such a way will never drag opponents out of position and always results in them finding it easy to defend.
Gila was critical in this of late, as he always drags defenders out with him, which opens up spaces and allows Kaka and Seedorf to utilise these spaces (as was the case in Seedorf's goal against Catania). However, we can't rely on Gila with this all the time, and as said above, Ambro, Pirlo and Gattuso also have to play their parts in this.
Pace and Rhythm
Movement, positioning and confidence is good but in the modern game, pace is a key element too (actually it always has been). Our play is normally far too slow of late, but also we're very monotonous. The Brazilians are historically brilliant with controlling the pace and rhythm in games and this is what's always made them such a great attacking force. Not only do they control the tempo, but even in single attacking moves you will see variations in the rhythm and tempo of the play, which is very disorientating for defenders.
We need to bring a similar element into our game, which is realistically possible when some of our Brazilian contingent are playing more regularly (currently Kaka, Emo and Cafu are the only outfield Brazilians available, and Cafu's not what he was, Emerson's not a typical Brazilian and Kaka's style is more European with Brazilian technique).
Conclusion
We have many, many problems right now, but realistically there's no reason this won't get resolved, but the key element that relates to all areas of our play is confidence. The players have quite honestly of late admitted it's been tough to handle all this, but once the they're in the right frame of mind, we're very difficult to stop.
It's easy to say a win will bring back confidence, but the low is due to lack of wins, so it's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. We need to get the essentials I've said above correct (positioning, discipline, pace and movement), which will almost certainly result in us getting something positive to build on, as we have quality in the squad.

Ofcourse we blame the management, who else?
Last year's pathetic summer campaign was strike one. Then we suffered in the league so much and they were promising a major haul and at least a world-class striker in the summer, and then due to the heroics of our players we win the CL and it has blinded our arrogant management and made them think who needs more players? why dont we just save some money? Saying something like we cannot bring any players out there to improve the squad was just stupid, I can name many players out there better than Simic, Favalli, Cafu, Brocchi (even Gila).
Missing out on Ribery and Toni is their biggest mistake thus far, and if rumours are to believed, we missed out on the best keeper of all time, Buffon, to keep our faith in Dida.
2 summers in a row, they screwed up BIG TIME. Now the management cannot do anything and it is only right that they say we dont need reinforcements because it'll unsettle the players. However, if they fail to see that the team is in desperate need of players and new tactics, that is when I will be the first one in line asking for them to be sacked.
True they know better than most how to bring victories and trophies, but even a child can recognize that the last 2 summer transfer campaigns were nothing short of abysmal. Thankfully, the fans at the San Siro are not against the management (yet) and have been supporting them all the time. I hope the management doesn't let the fans down like how they have been doing in the last couple of years (most notably the promises made in transfer markets).

I think what we can do is try and change tactics. 4-4-2, 3-5-2 are the first ones that come to mind. Maybe, just maybe, we will become less predictable.

Wonderful post, Dev, as usual. I appreciate you taking the time to write this and your insight. Thank you.
thanks, I just wanted to vent really lol (the whole day was spent thinking about Milan :D )
^ Great post Dev ...(no way in hell I'm quoting it though :zany: )
I STILL think there is no reason to panic as yet :5ok:
Ronaldo (aka superman) is returning from his space travels and though Lois Lane is upset and looks like she has moved on (*cough*cough*don't renew his contract...he's too injury prone  "*cough ) he will save the day once again :5ok:
I am also excited by the prospect of getting Pato.....some say he's the next Kaka ...others the next Ronaldo (not likely  )..Personally I think he's the next Sheva (complete : good free kick, Fast, strong, good in the air, decent dribbler) Under the tutleage of the two best attackers in the world and learning form a dead ball speciallist like Pirlo AND Kaka AND Ronaldo AND Maldini AND Seedorf can teach him english (all we need to do now is get him hitched with a mafia hottie so he can never leave Milan :zany: ) the future is bright.
As for Gorky....players of his Ilk don't show their true colours till the late mid twenties as did Zidane/ Riquelme...however there is and can be no one questioning his skill
We only need a LB and a forward or fast winger and we're pretty much set....I mean even if we go trophyless this season I expect to see some entertaining football and plus the gloryhunters would be weeded out :respect:
Dev....excellent post, excellent analysis. You should be a sports writer! :5ok:
Confidence is always an issue--such an intangible yet oh so obvious when we lack it. Sad thing is, I have no clue how you build it or restore it...other than to win a few games! Our lack of summer mercato doesn't help us any...but Idon't need to belabor that fact, we're all too well aware of it. I have no answers...
Ok, then tell me what you have on the table to make it better. Give me some realistic solutions, not just like "Gila SuX" or "Dida should never play for Milan".
I know very well Milan can't do anything until january. And I won't say Kalac is better, that's ridiculous.
This article about Buffon made me so angry, IF it's true, then how can anyone defend Milan management? Didn't Dida's mistakes from the past three or four years made them learn he's past it? Did Berlu expect a magical turnaround in his performances? You, me, everyone here, and many many more Milan fans knew that. And we were right. What did they expect? Refuse a WC winning GK and re-sign the one who made blunders regulary for the past three seasons (at that point in time) ? And it's not like they didn't have the money.
As disappointed as every Milan fan here, I too have an idea to share: 4-2-3-1.
Gila
Gourcuff/Serginho - Pirlo/Seedorf - Kaka
Ambrosini/Jankulovski - Gattuso/Emerson
Kaladze - Bonera - Nesta - Oddo
This is sorta an imitation of the Parma system when Gila was scoring crazy. Could this be possibly the solution to resolve our forward's inability to score? I don't know, but at least it's what I can think of so far.
I understand Kaka doesn't like to play on wing (based on my recollection, he stated that in an interview), but it will help speeding things up. I always think Milan is far too slow in building up plays. I think with Kaka and Gourcuff on right and left flanks might be able to get some offensive sparks. well who knows?
If it's true... well let me just say that I don't trust it because i don't believe in coincidence.
Thankfully, the fans at the San Siro are not against the management (yet) and have been supporting them all the time.
Because we've won 2 European Cups in 5 years.
I insist, again, we need rotate more.
Milan team got all the package, anything needed to win big games at any level;despite the fact that we lack offence options(tower center, speedy wingers)and depth(this year in particular due to the underperformance of our oldie wingbacks and injury problem in strikers department).but we are especially fatigue-prone,this problem hunters us in recent couple of years,I don't know why. Maybe we are not mentally strong;we have no excessive stamina;Carlo's character backfires team's will power;our superior skill is a twoblade sword, makes players rely too much on skills instead of intensity........I really don't know the exact conclusion for sure.
Here maybe the situation of this crisis; we had a bad game(bad form, happens all the time),we lost points.next week another draw (this time due to bad luck),the gap with title runners widened. we feel the urgency to net point in coming week, so we forced to field the same 11 guys. It's a bad cycle, our fatigueprone illness is eating us out. field fresh legs if just for odds-change sake, for god's sake also.
So I jump to this: Rotation may be an ultimate solution.About this specific issue, Liverpool's benites is the coach I admires most.he is a real master in tactics,I remember what he did at last year's CL final, he just virtually shut down our attack, switchoff our function mode, block our front connect.that's awesome,Sir furgesson can't do that.benites is also a advocter of rotation.he even obsessed with rotation to an extent that it's like an undenyable obligation.
Althought Liverpool's rotation is not an classic sample, they do encounter problems like team needs more time to melt into shape, players tends to lose chemistry when the lineup inserted half new faces three days just afer they play a fluient match. But they do managed to reach deep on various frontlines.
Guys, remember! what you are asking for milan team is a hattrick(or CL champion and seriea both) in a single season.Just what carlo tried hard in season04-05,but came up short a little bit.
To be fair the 2nd one was won mainly because of Carlo, not because of the management, he did miracles with the squad he had. Calciopoli or not they did it really bad on the transfer market last year and they did it even worse this one.
To me a team that is looking forward to January for re-inforcements (when not needed becasue of injuries but becasue of the performance) is a team that didn't do it so well when planning for the season in the summer, last January we had to buy 2 players (I'm not counting Grimi) and barely made it to the 4th place.
We got Oddo for pretty much the same price he had in the summer, so even knowing that Cafu was no longer the same we did nothing about it, to replace Schevchenko, who at that time was one of the best strikers in the world, we got Oliveira!, then when we realized that he sucks we got Ronaldo, who is still being good but injury prone, so again we let 1/2 season go on the striker department, no replacement for Maldini and/or Costacurta, no goalkeeper to challenge Dida, no one to step up in case of injury from Pirlo or Gatusso, and as expected we struggled all year long. Then there was the Athens night and the management had the illusion that we really are the best squad in the world when in reality we are a team that is screaming for replacements since years ago, they were arrogant and naive, giving many "if" for granted:
If Ronaldo doesn't get injured we don't need another Striker.
If Pipo can repeat Athens 30 more times this year we'll won everything.
If Dida can recover form we'll be fine, so no need for a good backup keeper.
If Gilardino can ever find the net again, If Maldini can play forever, etc.
To many questions and very little answers......and even when we all know that we can't win everything every year, we Milan fans (or at least this fan) expect to have a competitive squad every year, and is very hard for us to see our beloved team weakening and getting older with each passing year without a proper answer from the management, we are Milan damn it!! we are not Catania, Recreativo Huelva or Sheffield Wed or Sunday or whatever! As I said we are expected to have the elements to compete at a top level every year!
Sorry for the long post and for my exaltation, I guess I'm very frustrated, but I just can't understand why the management doesn't wake up.
As always:
Forza Milan!!!
NIce post will4li.
Rotation will work, yes, but then I dno't expect much since we have the likes of Cafu and Favalli on the bench who, unfortunately, seem not so ready to play a full 90 minutes.
Old age perhaps... but I guess it's more about the lack of enthusiasm....

Galliani I will not defend, every second word that comes out of his mouth is a lie.
If there's anyone who's going to be the death knell of this club, it's him.
I dont understand why fans criticise Galliani, AG is Berlusconis puppet.
He says whatever his master wants.

I guess the problem can all be trace down to club's general direction, save money at all cost. The one thing we have to realize is that Galliani and Berlusconi both know a lot more about soccer than all of us. They know or at least should know when and how to rebuild a squad. But why didn't they? Why aren't they signing great players when they clearly have the money and the need to do so? The answer is simple! They don't want to!
Winning the CL is just another excuse just like the Calciopolli scandal the year before management used to fool everyone. You are going to have to pardon me for not believing that Ibrahimovic signed with somebody else instead of us just because he couldn't wait for two more days. And as long as you can sign your check, how long does it take to bring in Buffon, Zambrotta and Gallas anyway? As for this summer, we pretend to spend all that energy and time on trying to sign a major star, but that logic makes no sense. When the first time you call Barcelona and they said their star is not for sale. Chances are, keep calling them for the next two months is not going to make the deal happen, especially if you are not willing to pay huge money for him. When the pretending game was over, management came out and use the CL victory to tell us to shut up and be happy with what we got.
Last year, before the CL final, I honestly thought that winning the CL wouldn't exactly be a good thing for the future of this team. And unfortunately, my prediction came true. I guess the only way for this management to get back on track is to have a few more disasterous seasons and the tickets sales starts to go down. Once the money stops coming in, they will start realizing their mistakes and try their damnest to fix it. Money is the only thing this management is concerned with right now and is the only thing that can affect their decisions.
There is no crisis, it is just a bad period that Milan is goung thru and it will go through
The solution for all of us is just to shut up and support the team,
Patience,Patience and Patience.
I will not be surprised if we beat Lazio on Sunday( which is by the way Dida's birthday)

I guess the problem can all be trace down to club's general direction, save money at all cost. So, when since has being financially responsible been a bad thing?
What would be better? Us having a bad transfer campaign, and a poor subsequent season, or for us to be relegated because we cant balance the books? Which, in the real world, is a real possibility.
I wonder why?
a) Because they are secretly Inter fans, who want to slowly kill AC Milan?
b) Because they are stealing the money generated by the club?
c) Because they are total idiots?
or (d) Because they are misers?
Winning the CL is just another excuse just like the Calciopolli scandal the year before management used to fool everyone. You are going to have to pardon me for not believing that Ibrahimovic signed with somebody else instead of us just because he couldn't wait for two more days. And as long as you can sign your check, how long does it take to bring in Buffon, Zambrotta and Gallas anyway? I see you have important contacts with Ibra, Zambrotta, Barca, and Arsenal, who are sharing information with you that no one else knows....:dontkn:...not only that, but u obviously must be on Juve´s board, or know someone who is, to know all these details about our transfer, or non-transfer activity.
And I know you dont. So, you are speculating, and with no solid facts upon which to base your claims/accusations.
If we are to believe what we are told, (re Ibra) its because we wanted to show faith in Gila...a perfectly understandable stance when u have just paid a huge amount to sign what was widely considered, Italy´s next "big thing".
How many times did Abramovitch call us for $heva? How many times did we tell him, "No thanks"....and did he get the player in the end? Hmmmm I wonder? And you know we were not willing to pay huge money for him? You know it was all a pretense? Surely you can share your source for all this inside info?!!!
Last year, before the CL final, I honestly thought that winning the CL wouldn't exactly be a good thing for the future of this team. And unfortunately, my prediction came true. Money is the only thing this management is concerned with right now and is the only thing that can affect their decisions. You really believe what you have typed here? If you do, then, my question is: Why? Followed immediately with: Are they stealing Milan´s money to support their drug/lifestyle/secret arms deals?
Do you even know the paltry sum we earn from ticket sales? The season´s take from ticket sales couldnt even play the players salaries!
The management of the club wants nothing more, IMO, than for the club to be successfull....otherwise Berlu would not have bought the club in the first place (yes, we all know it helped him politically, but surely he could have spent less money, and acheived the same result otherwise?)..and not only buy the club, but pump millions of pounds/dollars into it? Clubs rarely give a return on investment financially...Berlu basically has been spending his own money to help maintain the club/purchase new players(....Rui Costa being one, Weah, the Dutch Trio... $heva as well....) for YEARS....
But no...lets blame them for all of Milan´s woes...not Pippo and Gila who cant score, not Kaka who has missed sitters in the 6 yard box, not Dida who is good for conceding a goal a game, not Ancelotti whose reluctance to play Gourcoff is costing us dearly....
No, lets blame Berlu, and his mouthpiece, Galliani, for all of Milan´s problems....dont blame Merk, the idiot ref who allowed Celtic to manhandle our players, or the nitwit refs in the Serie A who cost us points vs Catania...as well as at Palermo....
No, its easier to blame Berlu...because the buck stops with him...
In truth, IMO, the people most at fault here, which few, if anyone has mentioned, is Milan Lab...because rest assured, if Ronaldo were fit, and playing, talk of a "crisis" at Milan would be surely directed to the Blue and Black side of the city.
Suffice it to say, that after recovering from the defeat at Celtic, I have a renewed vigor and belief that this side can still play great football, and win games....and maybe we will start at Lazio...maybe we wont...but these are the same players that played Man U off the park, and contained Liverpool in Athens...come Jan, with a few purchases, we can be back on track, if the this early haemmoraging can be contained.
Management made some mistakes: Not buying any LB or RB, and in not getting another experienced striker....knowing of Ronaldo´s frailty....however, predicting injury is a completely inexact science...and after all the treatment, who would have thought that Ronaldo wouldnt be able to start the season? Therein lies our problem...and the soloution to same.
Plus, its better to have these hiccups now, when they can be rectified, as opposed to the knock-out stages, where recovery would be much more difficult.
Regarding Ronaldo, predicting injury is not an 'inexact science', but an almost sure thing.

I know most of us has been calling for a deeper squad for some time but after reaching 3 EC finals in 5 years obviously management felt the policy was working.
Warro, i know you can't predict injuries but you can prepare for them by making a squad able to cope should something happen. Even i, with my limited knowledge of football management can see that having only 3 genuine strikers in your squad (Ronaldo, Inzaghi & Gilardino), of which 2 are injury prone and 1 has lost his confidence, is not enough to stretch through an entire season.
That is a genuine and quite a glaring mistake.

Not when you have made the concession to "allow" your coach to play with one striker...in a one striker formation, 4 strikers is too much, and 3 just enuf....worse when a young striker is on the way, who would be willing to take the bench, then we have a surplus.
If you play with 2 strikers continuously, then there is a glaring need for 4 in the squad.
Interesting that you state: "genuine"....meaning..not intentional?
As I said before...we would have been fine, had R99 not gotten his mysterious injury, and importantly, having said injury treated properly.
How do you prepare for that? Would Luca Toni, et al, have been willing to be behind R99, Gila, and Pippo? To sit on the bench, possibly lose their international place, to pick pine splinters from their backsides? I wouldnt, thats for sure.
Look, its easy when we are in a "crisis" to point fingers...but how will that help? Will it make us feel better to have identified the "culprit"? What will it solve?
I think the majority of us here realise that our management, while being a tad "overconfident", (after last season´s UCL) mean well, and want well for the club...I was heartened that there were no "votes of support" from the board for Carlo, who, IMO, doesnt need it.
What he needs is a fit Ronaldo, a working, thinking Gourcuff, Gila to finish properly, Kaka to take his chances, likewise Clarence, and more penetration from the DMs when we are attacking.
There are so many "factors" that have led to us being in this situation....to place the blame firmly at Management´s door-step, and soley so, is disingenius, and rather short-sighted, and shows a total lack of understanding of what modern club football at the highest level is all about.
What he needs is a fit Ronaldo
The problem is that a 'fit Ronaldo' is amost a science fiction entity. :grinser:

Nice one warro :5ok:
I have to agree with u that the availability of ronaldo from the start of the season might solve some of the pproblem we had. Unfortunately his injury turn from bad to worse. To me it's fine with having two strikers as initially the plan was to have ronaldo/gila or ronaldo/pippo but since his injury there's no way playing pippo/gila at the same time.
Seeing gourcuff more on the field is something that i would like to see.
I hope the so called crisis we have now will open the eyes of the management. Guys, please realised that the management we have here is the one that have gave us a lot all these past years.

Well, rotating players is one of Carlo's weakness, he doesn't! That's why everytime we bring in fresh blood, they are usually out of the door the very next season. They soon realize there's almost no chance of taking the places of Pirlo, Seedorf, with exception to Kaka which i don't think anyone will be thinking they can replace.
Carlo will play a semi-fit Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso etc etc and even stick with them thru bad patches for long period...
Again, it's the 'we are a family' policy... i guess every player will need to ask themselves are they the sons/daughters or are they the distant 2nd cousins....

Berlusconi's darkest day
Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi has called this “the darkest crisis since I became President” after disastrous results in Serie A and Europe.
The Champions League holders have picked up just four points from their last five domestic matches and crashed to a shock 2-1 defeat at Celtic on Wednesday.
“The situation is pitch black. This is the first real crisis since I took over and, in fact, it’s the worst since I became President of this club,” stated Berlusconi, who has been at the helm for 20 years.
Carlo Ancelotti can feel slightly nervous, as the patron has never been fond of his tactical ideals, but Berlusconi did try to reassure the fans.
“I think some of the causes are refereeing errors and a certain amount of bad luck. I confidently await the return to fitness of Ronaldo and Alexandre Pato’s debut. His teammates have spoken very highly of him.”
Pato was signed during the summer for £10m, but as he was only 17 he cannot be legally registered for competition until the next transfer window in January.
Ronaldo has not played at all in official tournaments this season due to a long-running injury saga.
Milan’s campaign had started very brightly with a 3-0 victory away to Genoa – to date their only win in Serie A – the European Super Cup win against Sevilla and a 2-1 Champions League result with Benfica.
http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/oct6d.html
---------------------------------------------------
Its clear that Uncle Silvio is not happy, but do you guys think their solution is to sit and wait for Ronaldo/Pato to come back, find their form, blend in, etc, or will they jump into the market and give us a couple of quality signings this january?
I don't understand why Berlu said that this is the darkest period since he became president as I recalled we've been in worse situation back in 96 when we bought Kluivert, Davids, Reiziger (who were expected to be the next Dutch trio) and yet miserably ended up in 13/14 for two seasons in a row. Perhaps the media just twisted the words but I could be wrong.
About the rotation it's really difficult to break into the midfield sector as solid as Kaka-Pirlo-Seedorf-Rino b/c they've been gelling one to another for more than 3 years, and it's even more difficult for the new recruits (Dhorassoo, Vogel, even Gorky) to do so b/c they came from different leagues and need time to adapt. And to make life harder for them our midfield quartet rarely get injured.
I think our scheme is a bit predictable especially in serie-A where the opponents (especially the minnows) often put 9 men behind the ball. Fielding 2 DMs in the same time are useless IMO as the opponents rely solely on counter attack without planning to control ball posession.
I think we should take a more aggressive approach toward the game. Since we can't use 2 strikers at least until Ronaldo is healthy, it'll be better if we play with only one DM and include AM like Gorky more often, and tell our full backs like Marek and Oddo to pay attention mainly on the defense as it's kinda useless to charge forward providing crosses as there's only one striker in the box.

I know most of us has been calling for a deeper squad for some time but after reaching 3 EC finals in 5 years obviously management felt the policy was working.
The policy used in the last 2 summer's was different than the ones that was always there. The one they had usually was making a quality signing and a couple of freebies that might be of use to the team. That was the policy after we had a huge spending spree in the market the year before with Pippo, Rui Costa, Nesta and those.
The policy used this summer and the last was different than previous years. We didnt even get any old freebies! All we got is Emerson, who I think is very useful. Pato has been bought for January so the management had known he is not going to be available for 4 months. And they should know how injury prone Pippo and Ronaldo are, and yet the gave Oliveira to Zaragoza on loan. Really every time and every way I think of it, the management are guilty.
Absolutely, if management can sit there and bask in the glory of European Cup victory, then they must take responsibility when the team loses.
Transfer policies have to be dynamic, not static. Management needed to look a couple of years (at least) into the future and start making changes NOW, not wait until the team crashes out of competitions. They have failed to do that, and if we dont have problems now, we will certainly do so in the future, if their policy continues as such.
As for Pato, it would be extremely unfair on the 18 year old, if our club president and us the fans were counting on him to turn things round. The guy has NO experience in European football and just signed his first professional contract, it would be crazy to expect him to shoulder such a big burden. His is TRULY one for the future. The person who needs to start delivvering now, is Gila, who managment keeps saying is for the future, well for me, Gila's future is now, if he doesnt deliver, then he is wasting squad space and should be shipped out, even at a loss.
Yes we are in crisis, there is no doubting that. The solution? IMO, things need to be done in the winter mercato:
1) A new, established striker is a PRIORITY. Let Pato take his time to develop, and if Gila does not deliver, let him sit and sulk on the bench. We need a solid alternative to Pippo and Ronaldo, our only 2 reliable, yet hugely injury prone strikers. Makes me regret not getting Suazo this summer, he would have been perfect.
2) I think our midfield is pretty much sorted out. The only thing that needs to be done is rotation. Pirlo needs to rest more, else he'll be completely burned out come March. Same for Seedorf and Kaka. I would play Gourcuff and Emerson much more than Carlo is doing now.
3) Our biggest weakness is in defense, and not central defense as everyone seems to think. Nesta, Kaladze, Maldini, Simic, Bonera is as solid and experienced as you need to cover the 2 centerback spots. What we need are reliable backup wing backs. Oddo and Janku are starting material IMO, but Cafu and Favalli are WAAY past it. Notice how many times our wingbacks win us games by pushing forward and making nice crosses? I almost never see that when Favalli and Cafu are playing. Let's forget about Zambrotta and go and get the next promising up and coming right and left backs and give them a shot as back ups.
4) Gk. If Dida continues in this vain, then replacing him is a priority, otherwise we end up working our butts off to score a goal, and then concede one in the last second from a freekick on the halfway line (remember Bayern's goal last year?).
entire post
I think you gloss over the failings far too easily and i think you're wrong, but i won't sit here and argue with you.
is simple what we need... a good striker coz Pipo is 35, ronaldo most of the time have injury, Glia can't score continually, and Pato is good but maybe is still to young, i think Huntelar, then a difender coz grande Maldini can't play in evry game and i do not see Kalaze as good replacement so barzagli or Mexes are great zambrotta too and a goalkeeer maybe good option is Amelia... Opinions???
Sidentoe: our topic threads are a little bit fragmented so I merged some of the posts together. - J
Amelia or Landreau / Barzagli or Mexes / Huntelaar or Quagliarella
That's it.

Great post, sharp and objective.I will give a ten if you posted the solution to this crisis other than wait in patience. ;)
Crisis solution ?
The solution is there just that your men seem scared from being caught again.
If they are willing to take the risk this is what should be done :
Galliani : Hi there old baldy pal
Collina : Respect my oldie and the only more baldy than me friend. What's up ?
Galliani : Don't ask. Berlusca kept me locked in the toilet for 6 hours in one hotel in Glasgow. He blames me for the bad results. He says he'll send his mob for me if we don't win on Sunday....so, i was wondering..... remember those times when i was using Morticia's cell phone and you used your daughters cell phone and when we spent sleepless nights looking for a way how to make more damage to Moggi and Juve ?

Galliani : Yes, yes. So, i hear you're the boss now to all the refs and you say who's gonna go where...... and i was wondering....errrrr...... can you start sending the "good" refs for Milan matches.
Collina : The good refs are all gone with Calciopoli :( ...... we made it look like they were helping Moggi so we saved our heads, but we couldn't save them from losing their ref license.
Galliani Noone's left ?
Collina : Noone from our old guard, but i have few talented and very cheap youngsters. Let me check their menu...................................................... aha, 30000 euro for a yellow, 50 000 euro for a red card, 30 000 for allowing offside goal, 60 000 for a dubious penalty.
Galliani : Perfect ! Send me 3 of those in Rome on Sunday.
But hey, don't tell anything to Ancelotti and our players. Let them think they won the match by themselves. If they win 2-3 matches this way they'll again get their confidence back and we'll be on the right track
Collina : Deal my scalpless mate. Consider it done and send best wishes to my old pall Meani. Tell him i miss all those dinners in that fancy restaurant.
Galliani : I'll tell him that. In fact, you can tell him that very soon. He's not allowed to have anything to do with football anymore, but you know how we in Milan don't pay much attention to what the court says. He'll be talking to you from now on.

Nope, cheap shots at Juve are allowed here, cheap shots at Milan aren't. This is a site dedicated to Milan and that's how it should be.
But mine wasn't a cheap shot at all. It was only humor (or i thought it is) and a reason to worry that some fool will really try to get out of the crisis this way. When you're angry and desperate, an individual can make a stupid move that will later hurt millions.
0.000000000001 % are the chances that something like this will happen, but man these Italians can make a stupidity from time to time. Trust me, i know :)

I disagree, my personal view is that we as Milan fans shouldn't distastefully make fun of clubs when it comes to something as serious as calciopoli. However, there's not much I can do to stop it, so I tend to leave it.
I also disagree and think it was a cheap shot. I don't disagree that someone in Italian football who is desperate won't make stupid moves, but I don't think your joke is cheap because of that. I think this way because you're taking advantage of us being down (something I don't mind seeing rival fans do), but also the events of last summer.

Sorry then, i guess these are the differencies in our societies that it makes it pure humor for me and a cheap shot for you. My big mistake for not being aware of that.
I make fun of Milan's involvment in Calciopoli when Juve's role in the scandal was much bigger. I am aware of Juve's involvment in Calciopoli and by joking about Milan i'm at the same time making fun of my team even more.
I have no idea atm what was the English word for this kind of humor but i see that for some people it's not funny at all :)

I think Milan needs a new relatively young goalie(Amelia, Frey). I also think a new in form striker maybe what the doctor ordered.(drogba, van persie)
A midfielder who can play great offense with average defense would be ncie for ac also, either to use as a sub or the occasional start. (juninho, joaquin, just examples), but they are players i would love at inter as well.
All I think we need to do is bring in one of our 3 goalies on loan, preferably Abbiati, and take a wait and see approach on Ronaldo. If he's ready to score and contribute after the International break, great. If not, we should bring in a striker in January. Yes, Pato will be allowed to play in January but we still need another quality striker in case. Let's not forget that Pippo is also having problems this season. In defense, Maldini's return will make all the difference.
Crisis solution ?
The solution is there just that your men seem scared from being caught again.
If they are willing to take the risk this is what should be done :
Galliani : Hi there old baldy pal

I don't understand why management just don't man up and apologise for the mis-handling of the transfer window & stop denying that there isn't a crisis.
They should just say that they are looking in to the best way to handle the situation as it can't continue like this. If the fans heard something like this then we'd have some hope.
But this denying there is a crisis when there clearly is one, is what's frustrating the $#!T out Milan fans.
Ancelotti & Galliani both said the no call on the penalty against Empoli changed the outcome of the game...They even have to mention that?
We have to rely on a penalty shot to draw with Empoli? if that is the case we've fallen fast and hard.
Management's policy of having short arms and deep pockets has truly bitten them in the A$$ as they are in disarray & are too proud to admit that they are largely at fault for disasterous position that we find ourselves in. There is no point deductions or excuses. All teams have injuries so you can't blame that. They should have aquired more depth and planned for injuries at any and all positions necessary.
Management has proven to be re-active instead of pro-active. As a result we are facing the situation that most Milan Fans saw happening.
Berlu & Galliani should both swallow their pride, admitt their mistakes & apologize.
Galliani was pointing to the 2003 Scudetto and the Champions League results the past few years as proof that they are competent, competitive & success. No arguement there.
But there is a saying, "you have to stop living in the past as it distracts from the now!"
IMO this statement applies to our managment.
Hey boys get in to the now!!!
Now we lost to Empoli in the San Siro.
Now we are 10 points behind the league leaders INTER.
Now we are in danger of not qualifying for CL knock rounds if we lose are next game.
That's where we are now. So don't turn your head and point to what was done, fix what's happening NOW!!!

Mr Anonymous, rather than the management not being able to admit a mistake, perhaps they don't feel they've made a mistake, despite the poor run.
Ancelotti has spoken about the decisions against us, as has Ambro, and they aren't wrong. This doesn't mean it's an excuse for our failings, they have also pointed out the problems and admitted we're not performing (see official site today)

If they think that, I hope you don't aswell as you would be in the same boat as they're in and unable to see the holes on the outside that's sinking the boat.
That's my point, they have too many excuses for there losses and none of them point to what most people from the outside see as the problem, which is lack of and/or improper activity in the summer transfer window.
They should admitt that the mishandling of the summer transfer window could be a possibility for the poor results. Instead they use the refs, last year it was the point reduction & if they do nothing in Jaunary and these results continue they will have other excuses.
If Milan were potting 3, 2 or even in some cases one goal a game as we should be, do we still to point to the refs blown calls? Not likely!!! We point those blown calls to deflect attention from our own shortcomings. We are slow and need speed. Can the MilanLab speed up players? No we need to buy players that can help the team, not look backwards and say this is the Championship team of last year and therefore we should be fine.
Management must understand there is nothing wrong with trying to buy a player that doesn't workout. But not even trying is even worse.
I haven't seen the post on the official website but admitting that they must do better is obivious. The root cause as to why we are not doing well is what I am speaking about.
New blood was needed this summer and management didn't do any about it and Milan as a whole is suffering. We will most likely continue to suffer until the January transfer market when some can be done, although we will have ocassional flashes of brilliance our team will not be consistant.

I didn't agree with the summer transfers, but I didn't think we needed much more. As Pato can't play until January, I would have kept an extra attacking option for the first half of the season (my pick would have probably been Oliveira). I also thought a top class LB was needed. Though Janku has done reasonably this year on the whole, I still feel a signing like Zambrotta would have been better.
However, we must also look at the problematic areas of the squad, which at the moment is most commonly in the attacking third (the defensive third is struggling too, but isn't as big a problem). No one can deny we're weak in depth for our attack, but at the same time, we were expecting players like Serginho and Ronaldo to have actually played. If we had them back (or even just one), rather than just Gourcuff on the bench at times, we'd have a few options, and greater depth. For example, Serginho offers width and pace, Ronaldo acceleration and ability to play off the front man and then players like Gourcuff and Gila, Pippo or even Seedorf on the bench, depending on the system in use. Problem is the depth isn't there, nor the options, as these players have had long term injuries. So really I don't blame them for thinking the squad was competitive.
Anyway, I really doubt the problems at the moment are to do with a weak squad or lack of a decent transfer campaign. These factors may add to the problems, but it's evident that this squad is more than good enough to challenge for a top 4 spot, and that's the bare minimum. The fact that isn't the case, and that we're struggling in 11th, losing against Palermo, Empoli and Celtic, suggests to me the problem is deeper rooted.
Sacchi today has apparently commented that in his opinion it was to do with motivation, which I agree with to some degree. I was appalled at how we played at Siena and for me that was the start of the problems, as we didn't seem to look at that game to see what was wrong and simply looked beyond it. However, after that the same happened again and as results fail confidence drops. Now we're at a point where confidence is very low, and we're trying to force our way out of the problem, which makes things worse when they fail (which in most cases it does). I still feel our problem is mental rather than physical or technical.

yeah i love Sacchis quote in the paper today. He refered to Milan as "a Ferrari which is out of petrol". Its like poetry in motion :grinser:
yeah i agree, i wasnt hoping for a revolution in the summer, just some more depth. To stay competitive all we really needed was a decent striker that could have played since the start of the season. A decent leftback and a creative backup for Pirlo. We could have kept Abbiati who would have been a reliable backup for Dida.. Instead we have Kalac and Fiori..
What confuses me the most is why we keep faith in Serginho as he hasnt played a competitive game in two seasons? Milan could spend his wages towards a younger player in the same position. Cafu has been a brilliant player, but then again would'nt a young Italian RB i.e. Raggi or Di Silvestre offer us alot more?

Management, Coaches and Players take us fans for idiots...They sit and make twins of themselves and expect us not to notice...and if we do notice we must not say anything...yes, thats true... if you call a spade a spade especially if it full of rubbish, they try to quiet you...
Poor performance in the transfer market= poor performance on the field...
I'm only glad that Milan is not in colombia or Medieval Sicily.
I completely agree with you, Mr Anonymous! Our squad may be good enough to push us through big, knockout games in the CL and possibly make it to the latter rounds, but to think that this squad is deep enough, strong enough, and fit enough to get us through an ENTIRE serie a season plus CL plus World Club Championship is simply ludricous.
I really dont understand management's logic. During the summer, they had to plan on how to deal with injuries, replacing aging players, get players who could change a game or players who can provide different tactical solutions. And what do they do? Nothing. How can we give a striker on loan---Oliveira, and not replace him? Even if we play in a one striker formation, it is blatantly obvious that injury-prone Ronaldo, fragile Inzaghi, and out of confidence Gilardino are not enough to carry us through games. If we still had RO, at least there would be an additional option and dimension to our game. But selling him without an adequate replacement is negligent to say the least.
Everyone rants and raves about Pato. We will get Pato in January, blah blah blah. The guy is 19!!! He does NOT have any experience playing football in Europe. How can we put so much hope on such a player? If we were Empoli, then maybe, but we are AC MIlan---our squad should be complete without Pato and he should be allowed to ease in slowly. Look at Gourcuff, he is now 21 and still not broken into the first team.
We have to face reality. We cannot keep swaying in the wind finding excuses. IF we win, managment comes out and says we are the best, but when we lose, we start groping for excuses---the ref was bad, we were penalized, we were unlucky, Ronaldo was not available, etc... That's just ridiculous. What would it take for some responsibility to be directed to managment's handling of transfers---relegation?

Motivation is an excuse for poor players. Most of the people here would be motivated to play for Milan, doesn't mean we'd do a good job.
It's very simple guys. Stop, repeat STOP buying crap players, and buy the players you promised, the superstars, the ones who can make a difference. We are in the same market as all the other clubs, except we end up looking in the bargain basement for our players.

No it ain't. Motivation is a important issue for all top teams and it is many factors contributing to it. It is IMO a big problem for us and the most simple explanation as to why we do better in the big UCL play-offs and why we used to win the first 4 UCL group games only to not win the two last...

Wow, we didn't need much more. IMO the transfer campaign not only brings in quality players with skill and talent that helps the team, but also brings in hungry motivated players that want to win. This in turn rubs off on our players that have won before & whose motivation may not be what it was in prior years. That mix is important. It's a basic in sports youth + desire and hunger to win + experienced players that know how to win. (it goes without saying talent must be there also) We have a bunch of the latter, and one of the former that can't play until January.
Why the heck didn't we steal Rosina from Torino in the summer? He's young, fast with a lot of talent & hungry to win.
If it true and we said no to Toni & Ribery that's just plain ignorant on someone in management's part as they would've brought talent and hunger to win.(and in Ribery's case youth) Since there is no doubting the skill of these players, IMO by not signing them managment was saying we don't need these players.
I'll say it again, management's arms haven proven to be too short and our pockets too deep to get players of this calibre. Milan's popularity has never been higher...we know they have more money than they can count.
It seems that you like management were convinced that injury proned Ronaldo would stay fit. Why would you think that? What in his past would make you believe that he would be fit for an entire season? He was getting injured in his prime, much less when he's older. We didn't even bother buying a back up for him. So now we don't score. Instead we RELY on penalty calls to get our goals...and complain when we don't get the calls. (I'm not saying the refs aren't blowing calls...but relying in their calls to win/tie games or pointing to this as the reason why we're losing is pathetic for a team of Milan's stature)
When it comes to defence we are so slow that teams simply beat us on the counter. They don't always have the quality to score or finish the attack but we get beat a lot. We didn't pick up one defensive back. With all respect to Zambrotta he's up there in age also. We have the experience in the back already find a really good young defender and buy him! There are plenty out there that we could have bought. (Defense is tricky though because if we were scoring the way we should be the one lousy goal that we allow wouldn't be a problem.)
If management didn't see this year unfolding the way it has thus far... I question how well they know their team and question whether they fix problems on team they don't see. Further to that why do most Milan Fans on the outside see problems that management cannot.
The team is stagnant and needs an injection of youth to get the older guys motivated.
I'm as big a MilanFan as anyone...but when I see a problem I have to give my take what it is.
Good point mr. Anonymous!

I’m not 100% sure but I think the rule is that Italian teams can hire only 1 non EU player per season, and is not related to the number of non EU players on the squad or to the number of non EU players leaving, so letting 1 non EU player go doesn’t open another spot….but again, I’m not a 100% sure.

italian teams can only have 5 non-eu players, and have a 1 in one out system if the non-eu player comes from outside italy.

Are you sure about this ?
Because Inter has 10 non-EU (players without EU passport)
Julio Cesar, Cordoba, Maxwell, Maicon, Samuel, Suazo, Cambiasso, Cruz, Adriano and Crespo don't have an EU passport
Only Burdisso, Solari, Stankovic and Zanetti from the players who don't come from the European Union have the EU passport.
Graeme, I see your point. But either way, it was foolish to let RO go without replacing him. I still doubt the 5 non-EU per team rule, but even if that were the case, why didnt we get RO AND a European or Italian striker to cover for the first half of the season. How about something even more simple----why not hang on to Borriello until Pato becomes eligible?
There is no 5 non EU players rule in Italy, nor a 1 in 1 out that I know, and yes letting RO go (as bad as he looked last season) without getting another striker to hang on until January was not a good idea, we are forced to play the 1 striker formation until Pato becomes available because Ronaldo can't stay healthy and Pipo and Gila just doesn't work together.
Question, how many times (if any) on the past couple seasons Inter have filed an entire non Italian starting formation? I mean, I know Milan seems to have a fetish for brazilians but at least they put 6-7 Italian players on the field more often than not.....but Inter, oh boy....most of the players listed by Tony are starters at Inter, and there are anothers that have a EU passport but they are not Italians (Ibra, Viera, etc.)

It's quite hard for Inter to field Italians because they only have a handful of Italians in the squad. Apparently 3 keepers and 2 defenders of whom Toldo and Materazzi are the only ones who play.
Oh, is there any truth in this article?http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=459976
If he really wants to leave, I suggest we get Rosina. :grinser:

The management got rid of Borriello due to the drugs thing.. wasnt it steroids or something from his girlfriend? anyway Milan pretty much wanted to wash there hands with him. I agree with you guys that it was stupid losing a striker and only getting Pato in january. But i am glad we did get rid of Oliviera, that guy never looked like he would settle in Italy.

I think that this year Inter will set ( if they already didn't) a new record in fielding a team without any Italians in it. Since Materazzi got injured and until he gets back from injury, the only time Inter has an Italian in the team is when Julio Cesar doesn't play.
They will play half the season without an Italian player in starting XI.

We should loan Gourcuff out, I hope he doesn't really want to leave the club entirely.

im sure he doesnt. I remember Zvone Boban being loaned out at the beggining of his career in Milan, to Lecce I think.
A spell at a club liuke Torino, Reggina or Parma would certanly do good for Yoan. Being a starter can help him a lot, and still be close to Milan and serie a.
At this moment Gourcuff is not playing anytning special, and we could use a player that can really make some difference when he steps on the field. We will not resolve this attacking crissis with only a powerfull forward, but with a fast and technical midfielder like Diego. That is what we are missing in those home games where we play Ambro-Rino in the middle.
Also, our fullbacks are not world class players like Maldini and Cafu used to be. Oddo and Marek cant to that, can we need more time and more precise passing to get them into dangerous positions. A player like Zambrotta would do us a HUGE favour... But we'll see in the summer aguess.

Go ahead and list the big names that have left Milan, Inter and Juve on loan and returned better players in recent years.

Zambrotta who will be 31 next year and has been average for Barca since he joined. Yes that's a great idea. We should sign Pagliuca as Dida's replacement as well, he was also great a few years ago.

Boban was pure class. One of my all time favourite milan players and a very underated player in my books. Your right very few players do, but some do. Look at pirlo, at inter he struggled, went out on loan to reggina + brescia and look at him now :) :grinser:
Other than zambrotta our options are differcult. In italy chiellini and pasquale are pretty good, but its going to cost alot to get either of the players... i havent even see dossena so i cant comment on him.. Any other good LBs in Italy? Zambrotta at least would be a great backup, but we need to invest in younger players in these spots.
Galliani says 4 players? i think the first team needs about new players. striker, lb, rb, goalee ish.. But our subs bench needs alot of work, as atm we only really have a first team..

I like Napoli's Domizzi (27) and what about Valencia's Moretti (26)? He's got a ton of experience. Felipe and of course Grimi but seriously that kid needs some playing time.

They held that record for some years now actually. Played a match against Sampdoria about 6 years ago without any italians.
