build a new stadium in segrate and put some more youth into the side.. Redo some of the marketing so milan would get more revenue that Real madrid.

If I were in charge

If I were the OWNER (Berlu) I would have:
1) seen about getting a fast skillful LB WHATEVER the price

2) I would have gotten Aguero again WHATEVER the price

3)I would have bought Quaresma " " " "

I know that these players in total may reach nearly $200M but I can't bear Milan to go through the dark ages and with the gradual introduction of these players I think the transition would be as close to seemless as possible (one trophyless season max) :5ok:

Quaresma- to cover for Seedorf/ our new LB to either get the best our of Janku or replace him. to me Quaresma is best suited to take advantage of Gila's aerial ability

Aguero- to partner Superman/ Gila/ Pippo/ Pato or even stand in for Kaka in times of injury

I would improve Milan's marketing strategy as I feel it's not aggressive enough. In Trinidad everyone has a Ronaldinho or beckham jersey...why not a ronaldo/kaka/maldini?? I'd also find a way to tap into the lucrative Asian market....even if it means posting scouts there and having one of them play for us to sweeten them up :sweeteye:

Were I Carlo I'd :

play Gorcuff in the majority of small/meaningless copa matches to build up experience a la Wenger.

Ensure Kaka improves and takes free kicks...this is the ONLY thing that separates him form Ronaldinho now....with pros like Seedorf/Oddo/Pirlo and Ronaldo there is NO reason why Kaka can't learn to become a deadlt dead ball specialist.....he is already beginning to learn to pass as well as Pirlo and is getting as cunning as Seedorf....let's make our hero a total Monster

Marketing the team (specially in Asia) sounds like a “must do” for us, we need to increase our non TV revenues now that the serie A teams will get a collective TV agreement, and more investment on the youth system is another thing I think we need to do, we need better scouting around the world, it seems like we are a step behind compared with other big European Clubs as far as producing talent that actually make it to the first team, and given the new UEFA regulations concerning the number of home grown players that need to be inscribed on the UEFA competitions that will be even more important on the next few years.

First order of business would be to fire everyone in the accounting and marketing department. To say those guys stink at what their jobs is an understatement. We need guys who actually knows how to market our team and to find ways to help us reduce taxes.

Secondly, Galliani will be fired and Leonardo will take his place as the vice president of the team and has the power to make decisions. Leonardo is a great negotiater and he is someone who really knows how to run a team. Galliani had his glory years but he is getting old and it's time to replace him with someone younger and more familiar with the modern day soccer world.

Third of all, Ancelotti will be replaced by Mourinho. No offense to Ancelotti, but he has been here for so long that he has nothing new to offer to the team. For this team to get back to the top, they need new strategies. Mourinho has the ability to mesh players together well. He is also a great tactician. And more importantly, he is not someone the players can push over. His presence in the lockeroom provides leadership.

And lastly, sign at least 7 new players and sell at least 7 old players. Make no mistake about it, I don't care how big of a homer you are to this team, you know for a fact that this team needs a major roster shake up. A new goalkeeper, left back, central defender, winger, and striker has to be installed into the starting lineup. And we should also add more depth to the wing back positions with two more additional signings. The specific players for those signings is hard to determine, so use your imaginations.

Fire Galliani. Sell and/or release :

Dida
Fiori
Kalac
Cafu
Favalli
Simic
Brocchi
Emerson
Serginho
Gilardino
Inzaghi

Recall Abbiati and Marzoratti and sign :

Frey - even though he's fat he's still an excellent goalkeeper
Domizzi and Cannavaro from Napoli
Naldo from Bremen
Morten Gamst Pederson from Blackburn
Sissoko from Liverpool
Huntelaar

Tell Ancelotti he must rotate from a wider group of players and play more youngsters. My starting XI would be :

GK. Frey
LB. Jankulovski
CB. Naldo
CB. Nesta
RB. Oddo
LM. Pedersen
CM. Pirlo
RM. Gattuso
AM. Kaka'
FW. Ronaldo or Huntelaar
FW. Pato

We have two of the best full backs in the World, we only need cover. Barzagli is a rubbish defender and why do we need three right backs? Montolivo isn't going to accept a role on the bench. You've changed the entire defence, with the exception of Nesta and the attack. In case you've forgotten we're European Champions. Our main problems are the bench not the first team!

if i were Berlu...
Being that we are already behind all our major competitors on all fronts in terms of retooling and developing our squad...I would invest little in improving the immediate squad...i would invest heavily in youth in order to develop a squad for the next three years when all our major competitors are going down in form...i would not talk about players i dream to be in my squad i would buy them...

I would operate the club democratically...all stakeholders would have an input into decision making...including the fans...
A task force would be established to monitor the views of the supporters

If i were Carlo i would buy Daniel Carvalho from SCKA Moscow he one of the rear breed of complete footballers...he can play every where...and use Champions League football to lure Elano from Man City...and Luisao from Benfica

I'd do this is my first year : http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showpost.php?p=459810&postcount=1612

And i'll add a world class player in the second year.
Of course, this is only in case i'm the coach but the owner listens to my advices and does whatever i tell him, without being involved in transfers and tactics.

not a bad selection, Tonci, although IMO it is a bit slim in RBs who are good going forward and that's essential to Milan's system be that the romb mid or X-tree formations and Uijfalusi is not someone who can fill in that role ... actually, I personally don;t see him as an improvement over Simic in either CB or RB.

one other thing though - it would take some rule bending to sign both Srna and Taiwo in the same transfer season but I am sure your right hand, Mr. G. could pull some magic string to make it happen :D

He's free, that's why "we" ( i'm the coach, so Milan becomes "we" and Juve becomes "they" :) ) must sign him and continue our tradition of going after free transfers :grinser:

As for Srna, Taiwo, i said it in my post that it's not possible to sign them both. That's why i give up from Srna. He'll be too expensive for a back-up and eventhough excellent going forward, he's very average at defense. I'll think of some other RB but i keep Oddo as #1 choice.

Exactly they have a better squad, look at Barca for example
Dida........ Valdis I prefer Dida but some of you here wont.
Oddo.......Zambrotta, no need to say who is better.
Nesta ....... Puyol, of course Nesta.
Kala ..... Oleuger, also I would choose Kala
Janku...... Abidal, Abidal of course.
Pirlo....... Yaya Toure, Pirlo without thinking though, Torre is an excellent player.
Gattuso...... Xavi, diffecult to comapre between them because of their football style.
Ambro...... Deco, I am not a fan of Deco but he is better than Ambro.
Then the fantastic four, ok I have to say that with exception to Kaka we dont have any player that is better than them or even close to them (including Ronaldo when fit).
So its clear that even the starting 11 in Barca are better and I am not going to talk about the bench because we dont have one.

I don't disagree but 11 players cannot play 5 tournaments. For example when we had Tomasson he was playing to some games as regular, he wasn't always a substitude.....

Montolivo.... who is Montolivo who will not accept to be in the bench of Milan, sometimes he sit in the bench of Fiorentina also. Madrid other times starts with Robinho in the line up whereas some doesn't , the same happens for Robben, they are "substitude" players? They just share the time bacause are not robots. Your way of thinking is having our best 11 and the others to be average and lower ... this is a not a football team, even in video games regular players got tired... injured....

Crespo why he didn't problem to sit in our bench, the same in Inter?

Why Sheva cannot get a EU passport?...

Bayern aren't in the Champions League this season so they're not an issue. Inter's squad is better than ours, their starting XI isn't. Man United? Please we ripped through their midfield like a knife through butter last season. Chelsea have a lot of muscle but have nothing tactically. On current form Arsenal would certainly give us problems. As for Barca, I fear Real Madrid and Liverpool far more.

Actually there is because too many people are under the illusion Zambrotta is still one of the best full backs in the World. Oddo is better.

Janku...... Abidal, Abidal of course.

Based on what? Based on how great he looked for Lyon, on how they always choked in the latter rounds of the Champions League?

Pirlo....... Yaya Toure, Pirlo without thinking though, Torre is an excellent player.

Silly comparison. Yaya is a DM.

Gattuso...... Xavi, diffecult to comapre between them

Xavi is just a younger Guardiola. He looks good until put under pressure then he goes missing. Can you even remember his World Cup performances?

True but he's old and struggles to stay fit. The point is you can't expect huge superstar signings at Milan because everyone knows how hard it is to break into the first team. Why do we need players like Alves and Zambrotta? You think they will give up first team football for the Milan bench?

Mehdi

Of course not. We've had a bad start but trophies are handed out in May not October. If Ronaldo had been fit we would be top of Serie A. It is not due to a lack of transfers in the summer when we lose against Empoli, as every one of the players in our squad, even those who hardly play at all, would go straight into Empoli's starting XI. It is Ancelotti who is the reason, because he doesn't have the tactical ability to make this team perform against weaker opposition in the league.

The style of football is secondary to victory. As long as we win (without breaking the rules, of course), I don't care how we do it. I would rather watch a solid team rake in 1-0 victories every weekend, than watch a team that occasionally plays brilliant football but is without a chance of challenging for the league title.

Based on what ? you guys forgotten the fact that Ronaldo is not the same Ronaldo that was playing for Inter and Brazil in 2002. he is 5 years older, much overweigt and less motivated than what he was when he was in his early and mid twenties.

And saying that we have better players than Inter is funny, yes we have Kaka, pirlo and Nesta and they are the best in their Positions but Inter in common has better squad, and better bench its fact whether you want to beleive it or not, in term of names we are the best with Cafu, Maldini, Nesta, Kaladze, Sergeniho, Pirlo,Ambro, Gattuso, Ronaldo, Pippo, Gila, Seedorf,Kaka, Dida and so on but they are way too old (most of them ) for producing the same fantastic football they used to do.

22-10-2007, 08:36
How much of Zambrotta did you watch last season? You're going by reputation not on performances.
Actually, i think it's you who's making a mistake here. Because you're going by one single season, or more precisely, half a season.

Oddo was no one until he was 29 yo. Then he had a solid season with Lazio, a mega half season with Lazio last year and an average half season with Milan. In case you've forgotten, let me remind you of Mrki's regular quote in February, March and April "What happened to the Oddo from Lazio ? " .
Then a good match against ManUtd and that was it.
Now watch him this year. Far from brilliant in defense, his crosses are funny, didn't make a single assist etc.

Zambrotta, unlike Oddo, actually played at the World Cup, and he made it to the team of the WC. He didn't get much rest last summer. Then he was preoccupied with Calciopoli and he knew nothing about his future. From his statements we can see that he was very disappointed and sad with the lost scudetti.
If we believe the reports, he wanted to stay in Italy, not go to Spain. But he accepted it and he CHANGED LEAGUES, playing style, game phylosophy etc.
Like most of the Italians who participated at the WC (Cannavaro, Grosso, Nesta,Camoranesi, Gilardino, Pirlo) fatigue took a lot from his power. Changing leagues was also highly important.
He was pretty bad until March and then he was again very good. If you watched Barca last year you'll know that Zambro was among their best players at the end of La Liga.

This year he was a beast. Like i said few days ago, he played better than he did at Juve. Then the injury happened.

Oddo is limited at the right side.
Zambrotta plays on both sides of the pitch, equally good.
Zambro has better crosses and he's much better defender than Oddo. He was and he still is.
One bad season won't change that.
Afterall, wasn't Gila better than Ibra in 2005/06 ? Does it mean that he is now a better player than Ibra ?

Zambrotta was and still is a much better and complete player than Oddo !

I would fire Ancellotti and then sign him again and then fire him again just to be sure.

After that I would bring Mourinho, Riquelme and Drogda.

It's silly to say Oddo isn't that good. He runs like a madman all day down that right flank and his crosses are excellent. He contributes more to our offense that Gattuso does on that right flank, and Gattuso is our midfielder! Also, I would take Jankulovski over Zambrotta anyday. The only essential problem with this Milan squad is that without Kaka, winning seems to be too hard. Other than Seedorf, we have no offensive minded midfielder who has the strength to go up their and create magic for our strikers. Sure, Pirlo is an wizard in dead ball situations and is a great passer who has perfect timing. Still, he can't' constantly create opportunities. Seriously, how can you have Ambrosini and Gattuso on the same starting lineup! On top of that, management said "Um, how can we get players who have no sense of creativity and are nothing more that glorified defenders?" Solution:Emerson. It's ridiculous the kind of players we are constantly accumulating in our midfield. Oh, and lets not forget Gattusos' double, Brocchi. It's time we got creative midfielders would compliment Kaka and Seedorf. We also need to bring in one of our goalkeepers on loan and get a CB who can actually defend.

Noone said that Oddo is bad or even not that good , we just said that he has some deffecsive problems in positioning, and in producing godd crosses.

As for Janku being better than Zambrotta, again based on what age or speed or cosses or shooting or positioning or experiance or what?
Janku is a good player and credit for him as he plays in a position that he dislike or lets say not his natural one but he is not better than Zambrotta by any means, as Zambrotta can cover the 2 sides as well as DM or RM other than that I agree with you when you say that we lack of attacking minded players and of course a lethal stricker like Sheva and we should not forget a coach that doesnot play with Ambro and Gattuso or Gattuso and Emerson on the same Pitch while he has Gorcuff on the bench.

I don't care what Mrki thinks.

Then a good match against ManUtd and that was it.
Now watch him this year. Far from brilliant in defense, his crosses are funny, didn't make a single assist etc.

Because he's the only player in the squad who isn't performing?

He was pretty bad until March and then he was again very good. If you watched Barca last year you'll know that Zambro was among their best players at the end of La Liga.

So he was bad until March, a bit like Oddo then.

This year he was a beast. Like i said few days ago, he played better than he did at Juve. Then the injury happened.

Zero goals and zero assists in a team that have conceded one goal less than we have.

Oddo is limited at the right side.

And? There are a handful of right backs I would want at Milan instead of him, 30 year old Zambrotta isn't one of them.

Zambrotta plays on both sides of the pitch, equally good.

He's 30.

Zambro has better crosses and he's much better defender than Oddo. He was and he still is.

In their last four seasons :

Oddo 126 games, 18 goals & 20 assists
Zambrotta 127 games, 4 goals & 13 assists

Their career stats in the top divisions :

Oddo 209 games, 29 goals & 28 assists
Zambrotta 304 games, 15 goals & 30 assists

One bad season won't change that.

See above.

Afterall, wasn't Gila better than Ibra in 2005/06 ? Does it mean that he is now a better player than Ibra ?

Zambrotta was and still is a much better and complete player than Oddo !

Zambrotta is a few months younger. He isn't as good a crosser and doesn't score as many goals. He is better defensively but anyone who suggests that's why we should sign him is not only a complete fool but they're also stuck in the past. There are better, YOUNGER, full backs. The last thing I want to see at Milan is another Juve reject past his prime - like Emerson.

Yes, if you count the last match when he didn't even play

And? There are a handful of right backs I would want at Milan instead of him, 30 year old Zambrotta isn't one of them.
Who's talking about Zambrotta being the new RB in Milan.
I was making a comparisson between Oddo and Zambrotta

He's 30. Oddo is 31

In their last four seasons :

Oddo 126 games, 18 goals & 20 assists
Zambrotta 127 games, 4 goals & 13 assists
Excuse me, but this is really silly.
Oddo was playing for Lazio and mostly as a midfielder. He was taking the free-kicks and the penalties. If you wanna talk who's a better midfielder then i agree with you that it's Oddo. But we are talking about full backs here. Someone who offers equal quality in attack and defense. Since he stopped taking the free-kicks and the penalties in Milan, his stats are not so good anymore, are they ?
Oliveira is a better attacker than Nesta, but which one will you chose to play for your team.
If Oddo was so much better than Zambrotta in these last 4 years why did he wait until he was 30 to join a big club ? Why did it take so long for the experts, NT coaches etc to see how good this guy is ?
Why was Milan after Zambrotta the last summer and not after Oddo ?
Oddo went to Milan only because you failed to sign Zambrotta. If you bought Zambrotta then Oddo would have now been playing in Lazio.

That's different.
You're talking about who should Milan sign, i was talking about who was/is a better player between Oddo and Zambrotta.
And Zambrotta is everything but a Juve reject. The man would have probably finished his career in Juve if there wasn't for Calciopoli.

And if you want real stats :

Italian NT
Oddo , 31 yo -
32 app / 1 goal

Zambrotta , 30 yo
67 app / 2 goals

EUROPEAN Champs
Oddo , 31 yo
0 app / 0 goals

Zambrotta , 30 yo
7 app / 0 goals

World Cups
Oddo , 31 yo
1 app / 0 goals

Zambrotta , 30 yo
10 app / 1 goal

If we count the CL matches these two played the difference is huge.

Zambrotta is and will be a legend of Italian football, Oddo won't. That's a fact !

It means Ancelotti cannot motivate this team and we need a new coach. Hopefully not Tassotti because he doesn't seem to do anything. Costacurta would be a good choice - he wants to spend money and sign Quaresma!

You can carry the horse to the water but you cant force him to drink...
The players have won all the major trophies possible...I think some of them are tired of winning...let some of them not wait till the knock out stage of the CL, like last year, to realise that they can play hard and win 7 matches to be champions. Yess...only seven games they played...R99 got us fourth place...
Last year i think they sat and watch Kaka fight Celtic for over 180 minutes to show them the light at the end of the tunnel...

Many people here think we should sign him. Just look through the posts.

Milan have been linked with Oddo for years but until January they were too cheap to do anything about it.

Why was Milan after Zambrotta the last summer and not after Oddo ?

They were.

Oddo went to Milan only because you failed to sign Zambrotta. If you bought Zambrotta then Oddo would have now been playing in Lazio.

Probably and we probably wouldn't be Champions of Europe either.

And we know who has a winners medal and who doesn’t.

LEGEND. Don't exaggerate, he's a poor man's Tassotti!
