I know we still have plenty to play for this season, but this is my squad for 2008/2009. A bit unrealistic, but I can hope. Please post yours considering numbers, price & availability.

Kprs - Frey, Offredi, Viviano.
Defence - Antonelli, Bonera, De Silvestri, Janku, Kaladze, Marzoratti, Nesta, Oddo, Zambrotta, Zapata.
Midfield - Ambrosini, Cigarini, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kaka, Kompany, Montolivio, Pirlo, Seedorf.
Forwards - Benezma, Di Gennaro, Inzaghi, Pato, Pozzi, Ronaldinho.

28 players. A proper squad size imo, with quality cover, and tactical/technical options in all places.

Subs:
KP - Viviano/Offredi.
CD - Marzoratti/Zapata/Bonera.
CM - Cigarini/Kompany/Gourcuff.
AM - Montolivio/Gourcuff
CF - Pozzi/Di Gennaro/Pato.

I dunno I think it's a bit overwhelming and unrealistic. Some people would get 0 playing time, especially the just returned Primavera players which would just hinder their progress.

It works out the same amount of players as now, just 1 more player in the forward & midfield departments. It's more rounded, and can't be any worse than the current squad which has a huge divide in class.

Frey and Cigarini is a good choices I reckon. don't think we will see Antonelli though, a serie B fullback with an average rating clearly under "6" is most likely not getting minutes with us next year. Kompany for me is a strange choice, does he even play in midfield? I'll play along though and put up a squad similar to yours, but that won't cost more than 150€ million. :D Mainly I think you made good choices and took players that is possible.

G: Frey, Kalac + whoever. (If getting Viviano, then loan out)
Fullbacks: Oddo, Zambrotta (done deal), Jankulovski, De silverstri
CB: Nesta, Kaladze, Bonera, Zapata (I would choose him over Barzaglie due to pace)
Midfielders: Pirlo/Cigarini, Gattuso/Ambro and Seedorf/Gourcuff. to show who they replace or play instead off. I wouldn't mind keeping Brocchi for when more steel is needed or Ambro breaks down.
AM: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Di Gennaro (although I think one more year on loan for him would do good). In that case I would bring in Moralez or Marin.
Strikers: Pato, Inzaghi, Gila, Paloschi.

Di Gennaro and Paloschi seems like our golden boys, but I feel both would benefit more on a loan than with us. Seeing them leading us with Pato in the future would be awesome.

While Gila would improve on playing with another I would be on terms with agreeing he may need to be upgraded, but if we get Ronaldinho then we won't really need more forwards anyway. Just options. As for options I think another midfield option a la Seedorf wouldn't be to bad, but that all depends on whether we would have (and field) some like DiGe or Moralez, someone that can come on the field and give us new options. Quaresma would be nice too, but he is another €30M+ player.

Seen Kompany play in part of Belgium Pol;and in midfield. He was awesome. As good as any defensive midfielder currently being touted. Bit more tactical work, and he'd be number one IMO.

I definitely think it's time we consider a new keeper. I'm a fan of Dida, but really it's difficult to see him improving after this season (the pressure is just incredible). A new sub keeper would be nice, though I'm not really bothered to keep Kalac or recall Storari or someone. Frey would be nice, but I don't think we'll be able to get him, so Gomes is another I fancy.

Defence will need the most refreshing, with Maldini leaving and most probably Cafu and possibly Sergio, the fullback areas really need strengthing. One world class fullback is needed (Zambro looks to fit the bill) and another very good fullback would be great (as neither Oddo or Janku have been brilliant), possibly someone we can develop (De Silvestri looks very good). Central defence only really needs depth added, as personally I can see Kaladze replacing Maldini full time in the first team, though if an excellent defender is available I wouldn't hesitate (Lucio has been strongly rumoured). Marzoratti I'd leave out on loan for now, as if he returned he'd be 4th choice at best (Nesta, Kala and Bonera all ahead of him), which would slow his development.

In midfield we simply need a little bit of a refresh. We need a Pirlo backup and Cigarini looks our most promising bet after Banega's loss, who I'd say should replace Brocchi. I think Emerson should be kept as he hasn't done too badly when he has played this year, despite not being fully fit or sharp and I do believe he's a good backup. Then we need another attacking midfielder, preferably with some pace though this isn't essential. Who this is I think depends on Pato, because if Pato is really going to be the instant superstar we hope for, then there's no point in bringing someone like Ronaldinho, and instead we will be better off with a reliable squad player (i.e. what Rui Costa was after Kaka joined). Di Gennaro, like Marzoratti I feel should be left to develop elsewhere. A solid (if unspectacular) all round midfielder would be nice to add depth, in which regard maybe Brocchi is possibly worth keeping

In attack, it's really a case of who replaces Ronaldo for me. Personally, I want a target man, as I think that's something we're missing. Amauri seems a very good option.

For me, the squad will look something like this:

GK: Gomes, Kalac and someone else
Defenders:Zambro, Nesta, Oddo, Kaladze, Bonera, Jankulovski, Di Silvestri, Lucio, Digao
Midfielders: Pirlo, Rino, Seedorf, Ambro, Gourcuff, Kaka, Cigarini, Emerson, Brocchi, Ronaldinho or attacking midfielder for squad role (someone who can play on the wing)
Attackers: Gila, Pippo, Pato, Amauri

Who does de Silvestri play for and how realistic a purchase is he? I take it he's a left-back?

Rosina would be one to go, there is no guarantee ronaldinho and kaka can play together. It didnt work at the last world cup. Rosina could sub kaka and seedorf, but also play wide as he has pace.

The amount of money barca would still want could be betterly spent.

Sounds like Desailly then. A CB in origin but moved into midfield. I know alot of teams try it, but not all CB's are adaptable to midfield roles. Maybe Kompany is the answer?

Good thread Tony.

I would like to see the following. Obviously only personal opinion.

Out
GK - Dida, Fiori.
Def - Cafu, Serginho, Favalli, Maldini (due to retirement wish he was 25 again)
possibly Simic as he is unhappy.
Mid - Brocchi,
Att - Ronaldo (if he really does want to leave)

In
GK - Frey, promote Offreidi
Def - Bring back Marzoratti, and acquire Behrami, Zambrotta, Zapata, Dessena
Mid - I would really like to see Montolivo join us or Cigrani as an understudy to Pirlo. With them and Gourcouff integrated into the team more, our midfield would be very strong whether it be first choice or subs.
Att - If Ronaldo were to leave I would like to see us go for a target man. Who fits the bill? For me it's only Eto'o or Drogba.

Therefore my squad for 2008/2009 season would be.

GK: Frey, Kalac, Offreidi
Def: Zambrotta, Oddo, Behrami, Jankulovski, Nesta, Kaladze, Bonera (have always liked him and think he can become a great defender), Zapata, Dessena.
Mid: Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf, Kaka, Ambrosini, Montolivo, Gourcouff, Cigrani, Di Gennaro
Att: Gilardino, Pato, Inzaghi (and a youngster Aubaymeng? to learn from him), Ronaldo/Drogba.

25 players which I think would lower our average age and show that we can sign good youngsters.
I am very thankful every players contribution to our recent success :p283: but unfortunately we do need to look to rejuvinate before we have to spend excessive amounts.
What better way for youngsters to learn then to play alongside such great players week in and week out in training. :musk:

Starting 11 would be

Frey, Zambrotta, Bonera, Nesta, Kaladze, Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambrosini/Seedorf, Kaka, Pato, Gilardino (think he will flourish with a second striker like Pato next to him).
With these players we would be able to play a 4-3-1-2 or push Zambrotta forward and go to a 3-4-1-2 if required with ease.

What I would like to see from Milan in our 2008/2009 season:

Players Out:
GK - Dida,Kalac,Fiori :D
Def - Maldini :(, Serginho,Cafu,Favalli, Simic
Mid - Emerson and maybe Brocchi
Att - Ronaldo, loan Aubameyang

Players In
GK - Frey, Abbiati (back from loan), Offredi
Def - Zambrotta,Lucio/Zapata,De Silvestri,Marzoratti (back from loan)
Mid - Montolivo,Quaresma/Rosina,Cigarini
Att - Benzema and bring Pozzi back from loan

Imo it's much better than splashing loads of money on one player who's now quite injury prone :P

My team then would be

Frey,De Silvestri,Zambrotta,Lucio,Nesta,Pirlo,Gattuso,Montolivo/Quaresma/Rosina,Kaká,Pato,Benzema

With Abbiati,Marzoratti,Janku,Bonera,Kaladze,Zapata,Cigarini,Seedorf,Ambro,Gourcuff, Gila, Inzaghi and Pozzi ready to fill in.

Maybe I'm forgetting some people but that's a decent squad imo and much better than spending money on R10

guys ! i am sorry to go off point, but it is my point of view that we are bunch of dreamers who love milan and spend a lot of time speaking and debating on who is coming and who is leaving and many of us know for sure that these talks are pointless while others think that maybe galliani enter out forum and read our posts and do what we want.....!!!!! i am not saying that this posting isn't fun, but some people just are over reacting and ....!!! any way some local newspapers stated that ac milan has an egyptian goalkeeper in its youth programs ... something which looks very fictious but very nice so i am asking people who won't be mad from this post to check this up for me ( his name is mohammed el-ashram and he is 16/17 years old ) ... also folks who will not be mad ... since i will sit to the computer a lot i hope somebody could give me an easy free link to download the latest football manager , does it work on windows vista? , is it fun any way?... sorry again for going off point.... viva milano

Which newpaper did say this? If it was one of those papers like (AL fersan , AL abtal etc tec) then I assure you its not true.

Jim_UK

Although part of me wishes for the 'star' names, i am convinced that the majority of the 'new blood' we need can be bought within Italy. However, i am on the side of revolution as opposed to evolution. The purpose of which is to get rid of the 'dead wood' that's in our squad. Here is what i would propose.

GK: My first choice would be Boruc, though the Pole has just signed a new contract so i doubt he'll move on. Frey would be my next choice. I would also bring back Abbiati or Storari.

Defence: Zambrotta i think is a must, his dual full-back positions make him invaluable. I would also sign Vargas and make him first choice left-back. Lastly i would sign Zapata and make him starting CB along with Nesta. De Silvestri would be nice but i think he needs to stay on at Lazio for a little longer.

Midfield: For me, i'd be looking for 2 or 3 players to really refresh things. A new DM for one, someone who can step in & push Ambrosini/Gattuso for a starting spot. So i'd go for either Flamini (free transfer i believe) or Gargano. For the creative midfield spot, the choices are either Cigarini or Hamsik. Montolivo is another option but would be more expensive i think.

Attack: I believe our side needs a Messi/Robinho-esque type of player. Someone with pace, some trickery and can drift wide if needs be. There are a number of options here with Giovinco (though Juve would not sell), Rosina (expensive no doubt) or Jimenez (more than likely to move to Inter). But there is also Lavezzi who would hopefully be cheaper. Now onto the strikers where i would go for Amauri & Berbatov.

So for a more managable amount of money (don't forget we'd recoup cash from some sales and would have players that can be used in deals i.e. £12 million + Kaladze for Lucio maybe or the same amount + Gilardino for Amauri??)

My squad:

GK: Frey, Abbiati, Fiori/Storari
DF: Vargas, Jankulovski, Zapata, Nesta, Bonera, Kaladze (though i'd sell him if we could get Lucio), Oddo, Zambrotta
MD: Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Flamini, Hamsik, Gargano (Gourcuff on loan)
FW: Kaka, Lavezzi, Berbatov, Amauri, Pato, Inzaghi

First 11: Frey, Vargas, Zapata, Nesta, Zambrotta, Gargano, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Berbatov, Amauri

Bench: Abbiati, Kaladze, Oddo, Flamini/Ambrosini, Hamsik, Lavezzi, Pato

^^^ Sounds very familiar :D

Good choices, Jim. But i really really doubt that a team like Milan would go for so many unproven youngsters. All of them are quality players, of course. Huge talents and huge potential. But teams like Milan, who always try to win everything, need proven players and mostly 1 or 2 youngsters.

From your team Zambrotta, Lucio, Amauri and Berbatov are players that Milan would like and try to get. All of them proven, all of them class.
But from the youngsters you mentioned, one, maximum 2 of them could find themselves in Milan this winter/summer.

I don't think i would go out on a limb if I said Zambrotta WILL go to us in the summer. I am hardly a prophet, but I know enough to say this with certainty. Lets put up a silly number too, 95% :D

Yes, i wonder where i could have gotten all those names from? :D I'll have to employ you as my official scout!

I doubt it'll happen either. However, if you look at the starting 11, there are only 3 'unproven' players in it, 1 of which is Zapata who is familiar enough with Serie A. It is only Vargas & Gargano who are the risks. The bench is made up of a few other 'unprovens', but it is these players that will add the fight back to our team. They'll be eager to prove themselves and hungry to win, i don't think you'd get that with some more established players.

AM: Kaka, Ronaldinho (Di Gennaro to be loaned another season). Ronaldinho or Montolivo is fine. Montolivo is young and Italian, while Ronaldinho will surely make us stronger (Montolivo may fail, or may just play ok).
Strikers: Pato, Inzaghi, Gila, Ronaldo. Palochis and Boriello can be loaned for 1-2 seasons until our phenomenon prefers foods to football :respect: .

I myself really hope Boriello, Bonera and Gilardino to be included in Azzurri squad as well as Gourcuff in France in this summer competition. I wish Inzaghi also, but it doesn't seem to happen.

Edit:
Out/retire list: Maldini (great respect), Favalli, Cafu, Serginho, Emerson, Brocchi, Inzaghi (In case Pippo retired, I will take Boriello back), Dida, Ba (not sure if he has retired or not :grinser: ).
In list: Cigarini, Ronaldinho/Montolivo, Boriello in case Inzaghi retires, De Silvestri, Zambrotta, Chiellini, Buffon

My 3 step plan for Milan's transfers.

Step 1 - Jan 08: Purchase Vargas, Hamsik, Gargano & Lavezzi and then loan the Neopolitan trio back to Napoli for the rest of the season. I think these 4 could be purchased for around £20 million, maybe less. Gargano & Vargas would not be so expensive, especially the former considering the poor wages Napoli are paying him.

Step 2 - Summer 08: Swap Gilardino for Frey, purchase Alves, Zapata & Benzema. Bring in the Napoli trio. These players would replace Fiori, Serginho, Simic, Maldini, Cafu, Emerson, Brocchi, Gilardino, Oliveria & possibly Favalli (though if there's room i'd keep him). If Dida doesn't except being 2nd choice then i'd let him go to and bring back Abbiati or Storari.

Squad:
Frey, Dida/Storari/Abbiati, Kalac
Vargas, Jankulovski, Zapata, Nesta, Kaladze, Bonera, Alves, Oddo, Favalli
Ambrosini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Hamsik, Gargano, Gourcuff,
Kaka, Lavezzi, Seedorf
Ronaldo, Inzaghi, Pato, Benzema

Step 3 - On going.

My final step would be to add 1 champion each year but not for 2 or 3 years, though i only have 3 in mind, mainly Fabregas, Ramos & Messi. By which time regular starters such as Gattuso, Pirlo, Nesta, Ronaldo, etc will become the squad players age will dictate. I don't see that we'd need more transfers than this unless a player really wanted to leave or injuries forced our hand. I think such a strategy is well within us.

step one: take 100mln euro and buy top players ( Frey, Zambrotta, Alves, Mexes, Benzema, Cigarini, Dessena ).

step 3: prey Inter doesnt win 17th scudetto and equals our number! is Galliani aware of this!!!

i like inter's full back maicon & maxwell
for attackking midfielder, i think ibrahim affelay from PSV is promising
iniesta from barca will be a suitable replacement for seedorf pos.
bezema will be a great additional for milan up front

with carlo next season :

---------Benzema--------Pato-----------

------------------Kaka------------------

-------Iniesta-----Pirlo------Gattuso-----

Maxwell----Nesta-----Bonera------Maicon

------------Dida replacement?------------

p.s : Buffon, Cech & Casillas absolutely better than Dida.

I mean, the pice tag for transfering the 4 players will splash BIG money, but i think their wages are ordinary for average current milan players.
And for starter level and regular player in Milan (at least my choice), the 4 players really deserved it

I know its unrealitic but its not impossible

Frey- A swap with gila would do the trick
barzagli- we are Desperately in need of a CB, we know it, he knows it.
Grimi- End the loan.
Zamb- He said himself he wants out of barce.
ziegler- well a nice 5 to 7 mil euros would do for this guy, he is really great.
hamsik- if not us than inter or juves, so why not us, again 5 to 7 mil euros.
Huntelaar- well this would be the big striker we have been told about, it woudl be a dream come true to see a great striker play for holland and milan again, MARCO anyone. hell our management should pay 30 mil euros for this dude.

with our addidas deal this shouldnt be a problem, cuz none of these players are attached to thier clubs, well jaan-klass would a hard one cuz we need to seduce him of the other clubs. and thats about it.

which one is fantasy ?
one thing, formation i mentioned above is our plain scheme under carletto

what makes you think Inter will sell both their starting fullbacks to us? That they would sell even one is fantasy. That Barcelona would sell Iniesta is on about the same level of unlikelyness, this time together with it being highly unlikely he would want to leave them.

Milany, Hamsik is a AM.

Here is my point :

- Iniesta
last 3 seasons in barca, he had no regular position in barca's starting eleven though he played well almost in everytime rijkaard put him in.
since 2004/2005 rijkaard usually choosed deco and xavi accompanying an anchor (marquez, edmilson, motta, yaya toure).
In some moment when rijkaard pushed to grab a win, he made xavi as anchor then deco & iniesta on left & right side respectively.
In few matches, rijkaard placed iniesta in Messi or Dinho's post.

Based on that, I think he isn't secured as 1st choice though recently he play more often than before and Milan has chance to grab him in to Milanello.
Bout the price tag, some members in this forum believe that Milan could spend large amount of money to redeem Dinho. So why not on Iniesta. iniesta is cheaper i think

- Maxwell
Maxwell has a tough competitor for left fullback in Cristian Chivu. If Chivu's back then Maxwell won't play as much as he get these days.
Yes, Maxwell could play as left midfielder in inter's 4-4-2 formation. If Stankovic fit again, Mancini will choose him over Maxwell as left midfielder. Other 3 could be Vieira & Cambiasso in central plus Zanetti on right (or Jimenez as trequarista in 4-3-1-2).

So, i think getting Maxwell ain't a fantasy, regardless Inter won't sell any of their players for their rival.

- Maicon
Yes, this is the difficultiest part to do. IMO, one of the best right full back these days. Maicon forced Mancini to play their captain Javier in midfield coz his existence.
I have no idea how to get this player :D
This is MANAGEMENT JOB to think how to get this man, and for my incapable, i will never in to Milan management :D :grinser:

I posted a really long reply in another thread somewhere so wont go into great detail and repeat myself but most of the players you have all suggested are just dreams and as a milan fan i cannot tell you how mad i am that the club hasn't spent any money on a team which obviously needs a makeover, its going to get to the stage where we will need a full squad to be bought rather than intergrating a few intelligent or even obvious signings with the players we have now. I love the players that have served us so well but some of them are just not good enough anymore. The club is being made to look a laughing stock around europe when it comes to transfers and i'm sick to death of the constant rumors surrounding the club because a team as great as Milan deserves more than just rumors and with a club that hasn't spent hardly any of its budget over the last 2 years its just not good enough. With the fresh blood needed at the club IMO i think we need to start by changing the manager, Ancelotti is remaining to loyal to the players that have served him so well, we need a manager who isn't scared to change things, a manager who will push the board for transfer funds as lack of competition is starting to affect great players like pirlo and seedorf who i feel are becoming lazywhich in turn is running Nesta and Kaka into the ground because they look like they are out there on by themselves most games and i'm not even going to go into the goalkeeper situation, anybody who can't see that we need a new stopper must be a closet Inter fan. Anyway this has now turned into the rant i said it wouldn't so i'm sorry lol i'm just pi55ed off about all the rumors and not actually signing anybody and wish a could just grab Galliani by the throat and stick his head in front of this screen. AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

p.s In the defence of the club i have to say the boy Pato is looking like he could be superb, very exciting to watch but its just not enough, too much pressure on the lad

MIDFIELDERS: Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, emerson, Seedorf, Kaka', Diego, Cigarini

Only Diego, Mexes and Benzema would cost much, but we need some expencive and world class players.

Lloris, Zambrotta, Vargas, Cigarini and Sheva are players that can come to milan with just a little effort, while Boriello and Marzoratti are our players..

I’ll give a breakdown for each position of what, in my opinion, should be done for next season. For each position, I’ll list what we have, who I think should go and who should come in. At the end I’ll post my 2008-2009 squad for the team.

Goalkeepers: Dida, Kalac, Fiori.

I would like to thank Dida for all he’s done for us, but he’s just no longer good enough to be a starting GK for the squad. Getting a good enough GK can’t be too difficult as there are options like: Boruc, Carizzo, Lloris, Frey etc etc. Fiori can go and pursue his career as a lawyer (?) and we can promote a youngster to take that 3rd GK position.

Out: Dida, Fiori
In: Carizzo, Offredi

Defenders: Cafu, Oddo, Maldini, Kaladze, Nesta, Simic, Bonera, Darmian, Digao, Favalli, Serginho, Jankulovski

To get straight to the point, Cafu, Simic, Favalli and Serginho all need to go because they really aren’t offering anything to the team. Digao should be sent somewhere on loan because he simply isn’t good enough. For replacements, I agree with the general consensus to acquire two fullbacks, Zambrotta and Vargas. Jankulovski and Oddo simply aren’t balanced enough in going forward and defending, especially considering the formation we play. Maldini may also be retiring and Darmian is there to develop like Paolo did at Milan.

Out: Cafu, Simic, Digao, Favalli, Serginho, Maldini(maybe)
In: Zambrotta, Vargas

Midfielders: Emerson, Gattuso, Seedorf, Gourcuff, Pirlo, Ambrosini, Brocchi, Ba, Kaka

Here we aren’t as bad as in defense. Emerson is good enough as backup while I believe Brocchi and Ba have done their time at this club. We should keep Gourcuff and give him more chances, while purchasing a Pirlo backup (Cigarini?) and a midfielder that can play Seedorf’s old role in the 4-3-1-2, a player like Aquilani for instance.

Out: Brocchi, Ba
In: Cigarini, Aquilani

Strikers: Ronaldo, Pato, Pippo, Gilardino, Aubameyang

Whether or not Ronaldo’s contract will be renewed, we still need to buy a first team striker for next season. My dream signing for this position would be Benzema. To finance this move we can sell Borriello, Oliveira and Gilardino who I think has had more than enough chances in this jersey. Gila would have to pull off a miraculous end of the season for me to reconsider this. Aubameyang should be sent on loan while Paloschi is promoted. The strikeforce may look young, but Pato is a phenomenon, Benzema is equally phenomenal, Paloschi deserves a chance with the first team, while Pippo is always there when we need experience

Out: Gilardino, Ronaldo(maybe)
In: Benzema, Paloschi

I believe this squad is very realistic with the only huge buys being Aquilani and Benzema which can be financed by the sale of Gilardino, Borriello, and Oliveira, along with the money we should have from the CL and money we have saved up over the years. Here’s my 2008-2009 Milan squad along with starting lineup and backup.

Goalkeepers: Carizzo, Kalac, Offredi

Defenders: Oddo, Zambrotta, Maldini(maybe), Kaladze, Nesta, Bonera, Darmian, Jankulovski, Vargas

Midfielders: Gattuso, Ambrosini, Emerson, Pirlo, Cigarini, Aquilani, Gourcuff, Seedorf, Kaka

Strikers: Pato, Benzema, Paloschi, Pippo, Ronaldo(maybe)

Starting 11, 4-3-1-2: Carizzo; Zambrotta, Nesta, Kaladze, Vargas; Gattuso, Pirlo, Aquilani/Gourcuff; Kaka; Pato, Benzema

Backup 11: 4-3-1-2: Kalac; Oddo, Bonera, Maldini/Darmian, Jankulovski; Emerson/Ambrosini, Cigarini, Aquilani/Gourcuff; Seedorf; Paloschi, Pippo

ONE: I don't know if we will, but i highly doubt that we will get 2 fullbacks this summer. However I would love to get Zambrotta and Pasqual. If Pasqual is not an option then Zambrotta can play both sides depending on who is in more in form Oddo or Jankulovski. Also I think Nesta and Kaladze have done good enough as a pair and although it would be good to add another "rock" to play next to Nesta, I think it is wizer to spend our money on a striker rather then a Barzagli or a Zapata....so I would go for a solid back up in Ferrari who would come for free.
So Ideally: - Zambrotta, Pasqual and Ferrari IN.
- Favalli, Cafu, Simic, Serginho OUT.

TWO: We really need someone to rest Pirlo. The ideal player has come up in Cigarini and we should definately do our best to sign him. Also as I mentioned in the summer mercato thread a couple of days ago, we need a Seedorf of 3-4 years ago to play in the LCM position. Aquilani IS that player right now, and there is a big chance to sign him. Let Sensi's daughter say anything she wants that he is staying, but the player himself is obviously not sure after declaring that he hopes what he has done so far is enough to leave him in the starting 11 for good. On top of that he is still waiting for a new contract to be drawn up meeting his expectations and that is something that Milan can even double.
So Ideally: - Cigarini and Aquilani IN.
- Brocchi OUT.

THREE: I agree that we should let Gilardino go. Let's just let him be happy somewhere else and maybe that will lead him to his best form. At the same time we can still bank good money on him. I would say we can sell him for 15 to even more mil. Yes we are dissapointed with him, but numbers don't lie and he has always been scoring goals. Last year he was our top goalscorer in the league as well as the year before that while this year only Kaka has scored one goal more then him in Serie A. He is also only 25 and a star in European football (meaning his name is very well known throughout Europe). I am not discussing whether he is good or not, I am just trying to point out the reasons of why we can sell him for up to 15 mil Euro even a bit more. This, plus perhaps a sale of Oliveira who has scored 10 goals in La Liga so far this season, will be enough to finance a move for Benzema or maybe Drogba (Benzema is my pick).
Ideally: - Benzema IN.
- Gilardino, Oliveira OUT.

The squad:

-----------------------GK------------------

-(Oddo)---(Ferrari*)(Darmian)(Bonera)---(Jankulovski)
--Zambrotta* - Kaladze - Nesta - Pasqual*

-----(Ambrosini) - (Cigarini*) - (Emerson)
------Gattuso----- Pirlo ------Aquilani*-------

-----------(Seedorf) (Gourcuff?)------------
------------------Kaka---------------------

----(Paloschi/Boriello)-------(Inzaghi)---------
-------Pato-----------------Benzema*-------

I really don't know if Gourcuff should stay or not. I don't even have an oppinion on that one. I guess Carlo is the best man to give that decision as he is the one that works with him day in and day out and can tell whether or not he is good enough to be kept or not and whether or not Gourcuff is will to wait for his chance which may take yet another year of mostly bench warming.

As for Boriello, I would rather pay an extra 5 mil and have the guy that has so far scored 16 Serie A goals this season in the squad next year rather then depend on Paloschi, who don't get me wrong I think is on the verge of becoming a great young player but I think he will benefit more if he goes on a loan. In any case, I don't mind if we have both of them, or if we have either one.

I didn't talk about the GK because I have no solutions for the position. :coffee: As of right now Kalac is great, but will he carry his form on to next season or will he become the old Kalac where we used to pray that he doesn't play. :1avs: Again, all of the keepers mentioned in previous posts would be great but I am actually starting to believe that we will stick to the current ones. :uhm:

So all in all that is 6 signings out of which 4 or 3 would be in the starting 11. 4 if we can get both Pasqual and Zambrotta and 3 if we get Zambrotta only.

Of course it is easy speculating and playing a little fantasy football, but it surely will be an interesting summer.

In order to try and figure out a realistic Milan squad for next season, I think one major factor has to be considered. Is Carlo going to stay in charge? Recent statements by the management seem to indicate he will. I personally think there are positives in both scenarios, although I am more inclined towards Ancelotti staying (I really do wish he would take a bit more risks from time to time, though). I'm not sure whether our major problem has been the fact that we're often predictable in our tactics, or whether we simply need a few young, fast players.

If Carlo stays, then we will probably only introduce a couple of new members (i.e the major problem spots) to avoid ruining the understanding between the players. We might still face similar problems in squad depth next season, but a team cannot be built overnight. If we gradually bring in two YOUNG players along with an experienced one each season, I believe the long term benefits can be greater than with a complete revolution.

That being said, here are my thoughts on Milan 2008/2009, taking both of Carlo's preferred formations into account.

GK: Frey [Kalac, Offredi]

Trade Gila for Frey, release either Dida or Kalac, promote Offredi.

DF: Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Zambrotta

It seems that Zambrotta is practically a done deal. Although he's over 30, I think he still has a lot to give. He is experienced (in football and in serie A) and versatile (plays on both flanks) - truly one of the best in the game, and I hope this transfer goes through. I believe Oddo can eventually regain his old form (I mean, there's no way he's forgotten how to cross the ball for good). I certainly wouldn't object to a younger, faster right fullback though - someone like Dani Alves would be brilliant, but I'm not sure it's an immediate priority. The Nesta-Kaladze partnership in central defense is consistently solid, and Bonera can easily step in, if need be. I would love to see Maldini stay on for one more season (who wouldn't, right?) and maybe have Darmian as his understudy (of what I hear, it seems the boy has real potential). Cafu, Serginho, Favalli - out.

MF: Pirlo, Gattuso, [B]Aquilani, Kaka [Cigarini/Gourcuff, Ambrosini, Emerson, Seedorf]

Although the midfield is our strongest area, it is clear that there has been a missing ingredient this year. Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Seedorf and Kaka have all produced great moments, but have also had hardcore dips in form - probably due to playing too many matches. I think Aquilani would be a great addition to the team, and if we make him a major target, then there is a realistic chance of seeing him in Milan next season. He is young, skilled (dribbling, passing, shooting) and serie A based. By getting him on board, this would allow rotation between Gattuso and Ambrosini, between Kaka and Seedorf, etc... We are also in major need of a replacement for Pirlo - many of you have suggested Cigarini, and although I have only seen him play a couple of times, he has definitely been impressive. Now, if Gourcuff is to stay on, he needs to improve. To improve, he needs to play, and for him to play, I think Ancelotti should make a decision on where to play him and stick to it. I feel he has a lot of potential, although he hasn't really shown much when given the chance to play. If Cigarini comes, then Gourcuff should mainly be used as a replacement for Seedorf.
Emerson should stay to give us the option of using the christmas tree formation when needed. Kaka will soon return to his old self once he fully shakes off the knee injury, and once opposition defenders have someone else in our attack force to really give serious attention to. Brocchi - out.

FW: Pato, Amauri [Inzaghi, Boriello/Paloschi]

We obviously need a new starting striker, and probably need a bench striker too. There are many good options out there - Benzema, Adebayor, Drogba, etc... I would be happy with either of them, but I think Pato would work well with Amauri. He has similar qualities to Drogba (physical, good in the air, able to hold the ball), and is younger than him. Amauri is also a cheaper option and has experience in dealing with Italian defenders. Not to mention that he is officially available for transfer. Boriello could be another useful addition if he can maintain his current form. Paloschi should either be loaned out or promoted. Inzaghi should be kept as a super sub for Champions League matches. Ronaldo, as much as I hate to say it, cannot be a reliable option anymore. And finally, Gilardino should either be sold to fund part of the Amauri transfer, or swapped for Frey. He will probably regain confidence in himself at Fiorentina, but I doubt he will at Milan.

To conclude, I think that all this talk about it being the end of an era is somewhat of an overreaction. The only thing that really warrants such a statement is Maldini's retirement. Nesta, Pirlo, Kaka, and to some extent Gattuso are still very much alive and kicking. Kaladze, Bonera, Ambrosini and Seedorf are still capable of putting in very solid performances. Gourcuff and Paloschi have the potential develop into great players. And Pato needs a year or so to set the league on fire. A couple of clever transfers should see us back on the right track. I am truly thankful for the not-too-distant memories this team has given me.

I try to put my Milan for next year with almost realistic choices lol ...

--------------- Frey ----------------
D.Alves - Nesta ---- Barzagli - Vargas
--- Gattuso --- Pirlo --- Ambrosini ---
--------------- Kaka ----------------
----------- Pato - Aguero -----------

Subs:
- Kalac, a young like Offredi like everybody seems to think he could be good
- Oddo, Bonera, Maldini, Kaladze, Darmian
- Flamini, Montolivo, Gourcuff, Dessena
- Diego, Seedorf
- Gila, Paloschi, why not Sheva in last choice for the bench lol

We would have a second team when the guys are tired, something like that:

--------------- Kalac/Offredi ------------------
Oddo ----- Bonera ------ Maldini ----- Kaladze
-- Flamini ------- Montolivo ------- Gourcuff/Dessena
--------------- Diego - Seedorf ----------------
--------------- Gila/Paloschi -------------------

PS: And the best is that there wouldn't be a "Kaka' addict" anymore with a guy like Diego able to take his place in the first 11 if he was getting an injury ... same for Pirlo and Gattuso with Montolivo and Flamini.

If I'm totally honest, I think both yours and Rossoneri_11's team lacks balance and stability in midfield. This would be suicide against teams with a good counter, especially as we have two very attacking fullbacks too in this system.

heres mine. Some of the choices people have made does worry me a little.. lol

4-3-1-2

--------------- Frey ----------------
D.Alves - Nesta ---- Barzagli - Zambrotta
--- Gattuso --- Pirlo --- Aquilani ---
--------------- Kaka ----------------
----------- Pato - Benzema -----------

4-3-2-1
--------------- Cudicini/Kalac ----------------
Oddo/ Di silvestri - Bonera (Ferrari)---- Kaladze - vargas/Pasquale
--- Flamini --- Cigarini--- Hamsik/Ambrosini-----
--------- Nasri -----Seedorf-----------
----------Borriello/ inzaghi/Paloushi -----------

out/in
Dida -Frey (trade for Gilardino)
Fiori -Cudicini
Favalli- Zambrotta
Cafu - Daniel Alves
Maldini (retire) - Barzagli
Emerson - Flamini (bosman)
Brocchi - Hamsik
Gilardino (for Frey) - Borriello (back on loan)
Gourcuff -Nasri +$$
Ronaldo - Benzema.
// Sheva ( for peanuts)
// Aquilani.

I put Gourcuff down as i think i rather have any player our manager would play, not bringing on Gourcuff because he has to. And to be honest he was really poor again Empoli.

Jankulovski im not sure about either, hes been injured too much. Other players we could take into consideration are Antonnini and Abate of Empoli. If the worst comes to the worse and we dont make champ league. I would pack the side out with as much talent as possible so we would have no excuses playing too many games in Seria A/ Coppa and Uefa cup.

The players i have chosen wouldnt bankrupt the club, i think todays rumours of Drogba and Gerrard are stupid as they are both overated in my opinion.

You guys are obsessed with rubbish players and pensioners for some reason?
we already have an avg age of 33 and some of us want zambrotta and the great maldini to reconsider retirement. Dani alves would be a catasrophie as he spends more time up front than in defence, needless to say his defensive abilities are minimal.

this is a re-thought version of my milan team for next season.

From my point of view, the future of this team would be to battle to stay in Serie A ... nothing else:

- 3 defensers is not a good way to play in modern football.

- Furthermore, with 3 defensers, you put only Gattuso as a defensive midfield, a guy who can't pass a ball and is really bad in head-play (don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Gattuso, but let's be serious).

- You put Kaka' as an "attacker" (attackant ? forward ? umh what is the word ?!) whereas his best and favorite role is to be an offensive midfield. So you want him to leave the following year ? lol

- Not a good balance between attack and defense in your team.

:r14:

Geotav...you overlook the fact that vicente and cicnho would be playing wing back roles and gattuso would be joined by iniesta as he is also a versatile defensive midfielder, you shouldt look at a written formation as some sort of a rigid battle formation, rather many of these players would be very versatile in their game.
So when defending you have effectively 5 defenders with 2 defensive midfielders, and the tables turn when we attack, this is perfect. You must have a short memory as kakas best season was in this very role as a support forward, how many times did milan play with kaka and 2 strikers last season? it was either inzaghi or gillardino not both(champions league remember) so this is a proven winning formula. this team would not only take the scudetto but the CL too. i could easily write out the formation differently which further proves my point

Iniesta isn't that good in defense ... for Kaka', I know he did his best season like a "support forward", but he always said he prefered the offensive midfield position with 2 strikers in front of him, so I don't think he would enjoy to play all the time like he did last year.

And yes, I'm very naive ... like all of us here who put our dreaming teams (almost all can be amazing lol) that will unfortunately never happen :(

I really hope Pirlo gets a good long rest this summer, because he has been a real weak link in my opinion. He is too slow right now getting the ball out to Kaka', and we have no other creative midfielders, so by the time he is done shuffling around, passing it sideways, etc., the other team is back and ready to defend. Milan is best when we are pacy and fluid, but Pirlo has really clogged up the toilet the last months. Get him on rest so we can have him back strong next fall.

My team for 08/09

--------------Marco

----------------Pirlo
-----Gattusso--------Montolivo
-------Kaka--------Ronaldinho
--------------Pato

Bench:
Kaladze,
Kalac,
Emerson,
Bonera
Boriello,
Ambro,
Seedorf

I think Frey could come, but unlikely considering his statements to the press. Marco wants to leave his team, and they could even be relegated. Roma, Inter, and Juve all have good keepers.

In defense, Chiellini, Barzagli, Santacroce are all great options. Mazoratti at Empoli is also a very impressive player.

I think Gattusso and Ambro are showing signs of tiredness, but, again, so is the whole squad. Gattusso seems the more salvageable. I have never been a fan of Ambro as a starter. I'm not sure about Montolivo, but it seems obvious that Milan need someone to replace at least one of the two of these guys next year. We lost the midfield battle against Arsenal and De Rossi bossed Gattusso against Roma two weeks ago.

I honestly am thinking more and more that Ronaldinho will be coming to Milan. The other option is Henry coming. One of them have to leave the Barca lineup. The fantastic four isn't working, Messi is taking over Ronaldinho's mantle, E'too is still amazing and Giovanni and Bojan are taking over Ronaldinho's spot.

I think if you look at Milan's buying practice, really, Alves, Huntelaar, those types of players don't come to Milan. Look at where Gattusso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Ambro, Dida, Janku came from. Smaller sides. Were people screaming over the names of Pirlo or Dida? No, Seedorf was considered a finished man. Gattusso was playing for Salernitana. Milan doesn't buy from England, scratch off Berbatov. Berba is also a whining player, not the type Milan buys. Alves is so much hype, I don't think people actually watch him defend.

Milan buys players and makes them stars. Or takes stars on the cheap, proven players. It's the epitome of the Italian way. We are complaining now, but it will be fine, and the only concern we should have is if Milan get 4th place or not.

My squad, as realistic as possible would be

GK: Marco, Kalac, Fiori
RB: Oddo, Bonera, Cafu
LB: Zambro, Janku, ?Maldini, Grimi?
CB: Nesta, Barzagli/Santacroce (both?), Kaladze, Mazoratti (return), Digao

Ronaldinho can't come to Milan, not because of his level, but because of his mentality ... he can't do well more than 2-3 years in the same club, and despite his age, he still has the same problems that he had in Paris few years ago.

And a big "no" to Henry, it's a bit the same case that Sheva, he was doing well in Arsenal (even if for me, if you have watched him since his last year in Arsenal, the guy is finished) but will never adapt to another club and country. Unfortunately for him, Arsenal will never bring him back in London. I give him 1 more year at high level and then he will stop I think (everyone in France knows that the guy will never play in a "small" club).

Why do so many want Barzagli? I heard people talk about him for years talking about how they wanted him. I don't get it. He is slow and plays for one of Serie A worst defenses. When there is a option like the athletic Zapata that have been great. Defenders that move around like luxury cruisers don't really fit the big teams that well, just look at Kaladze.

I think we should focus to rejuvenate te squad. It's time for a new Milan era with younger players to step in. We should also try to buy promising, Italian players.

This line-up would please me:

-------------------------------- Amelia ------------------------------

---- Oddo ----------------- Nesta ---- Barzagli ----- Zambrotta ----

------------------------------ Pirlo ---- Gattuso -----------------------

---- Quaresma --------------------- Kaka -----------------------------

----------------------------- Pato -------------------------------------

--------------------------- Benzema/ David Villa ---------------------------

Bench: Jankulovski, Ambrosini, Palosschi, Borriello, Gourcuff, Montolivo, Gamberini, ...

It's time to build a new, promising squad and get rid of some, older players.
(Average) older players like Emerson, Brocchi, Bonera, Favalli, Cafu, Serginho and Simic should go. Seedorf, Dida, Kalac, Inzaghi & Gilardino can or may stay, but maybe it's better for them and the team if they leave. It's time for a new era.

My next year's roster will include the following changes:

-Dida, Digao, Ba, Ronaldo, Serginho
+Boruc/Gomez, Mexes, Sheva, Zambro, Ronaldinho

I would love to have a Pirlo-type player who is young and can be developed according to our system. But I am not aware of any new guys around the block.

If no one is available, I would get Vogel back. There might be many skeptics about Vogel's re-entry into our team, but do not forget his fine performances as Pirlo sub. He would let Pirlo skip 8 to 10 matches a season which would be a lot of rest for Pirlo. Also, remmeber, players like Pirlo do not come that often.

I think we can have that in Cigarini, who's one of the hottest prospects for Italy, he's the vision to do great passes and he can also tackle better than Pirlo, if we do get him though, I'd like to see him playing more than just 8 matches :5ok:

Lucio recently stated he wanted to stay with Bayern. So I'm pretty sure he's out of the picture.
Do you really think we could get Ribery AND money for Gatusso? I doubt that It would probably be the other way arround. Besides I'd prefer Gatusso to stay. He is one of our backbone players we should use for our foundation of the new Milan

You overlooked our best defender, and keep in Favalli, Brocchi, & Gilardino.

If Carlo stays which seems likely, and if he plays same way, again likely then surely we need better wb's than what we have, and better than who we are due to buy in Zambrotta, Rafinha, Vargas. I can't see much difference to our team, bar a better striker, keeper, bit more possession, but still unable to create enough chances to win the league or make our direct opponents think about style and system of play.

by golly you're right!!!!!! apologies Mr. Nesta!!!! I am going to edit my post.

So as far as Brocchi & Favalli are concerned..while I'd like to replace them you can't replace the entire team in one season....they've done enough to stay as cover.

Gila - call it an emotional choice. Maybe everyone else forgot but I remember how happy I was the day he signed (after that long drawn out transfer saga). I can't trade him up for a guy who may be a one-season wonder with Genoa. What Borriello did with Genoa this season, Gila did twice with Parma....so maybe he just lacks confidence.

29 players, same as last season - including Dida, the world's highest paid 3rd choice keeper! A great increase in quality and a slight increase in salaries...

The team is based on the 4-3-2-1 formation. But due to the number of forwards we might also use 4-3-1-2 or even 4-2-2-2. If we do so a lot then 6 holding midfielders would be a little too much and one of Brocchi and Emerson should leave.

Why should he?

Because he's absolutely useless to Milan in his present condition. He should go back to Brazil and maybe regain some form. We need three working keepers. Not one who messes up his back sitting down.

At this point I personally would like to see Schweinsteiger, Eto'o or Adebayor, Zapata...

As far as three keepers we should have...

A new keeper, Abbiati (2nd), Kalac (3rd). No Dida.

welp... if we are talking fantasy, assuming we have the signings we already have...If I ran milan....
so far we r up around 15 mil between loan deals and sales....

i would sell borriello (16 mil) sell simic (4 mil) sell brocchi (1.5 mil). sell abbiati (7 mil), sell oddo (5 mil), sell janku (5 mil) cut dida for free... total of say....50-55 mil when all is said and done....

use the money sign huntelaar (pay 25) and ronaldinho (prob 25 as well). Sign boruc (12 mil). I would use our 2 nonEU spot on hernanes (15 mil) and thiago silva (10 mil). finally buy grosso for lb who lyon hav staed 7 mil for. (not top choice cause of age... but he is class and at his age, would be a deal)

thats 90+ spending... i know its ALOT but we deserve it. also consider we've sold over 50 mil of players, so really we're asking for 40 ml in investments. Less than most clubs are spending.... MY milan would look like this

-------------huntelaar--------------- (inzaghi)

---------kaka------ronaldinho------- (pato)

-----seedorf---pirlo---gattuso-------- (hernanes, flamini, ambro, emerson)

-grosso--maldini--nesta--zambrotta-- (antonini, kalatze, thiago silva, bonera, abate, favalli)

Dida has a big contract and that would cost money to terminate...

Fabio Grosso is just 30, and Italians have longer careers... so he has a good 5 years left in him (I have a feeling he'll last as long as Panucci)... I'm warming to the idea of Milan buying him but I'm not sure if that'll happen.

rt9
05-07-2008, 03:14
What makes you say that Italians have longer careers? Have you got any factual proof? I think longevity is dependent on the individual's physique, style of play, and position on the pitch. Can Panucci still cut it at right back these days? Grosso will not last much longer at left back. Once his pace dwindles, he can either quit or change positions and play as a center back. Why not invest in somebody younger?

Gabriel489

Since this is a fantasy thread. This is what I would have done.
Out: In:
Dida(Loan, sell, anyway possible) Boruc(12M)
Abbiati(7M) Promote someone
Kalac(3M) Promote someone
Simic(4M) Zapata(16M)
Favalli(1.5M) Vargas(11M)
Oddo(5M) Mazzarrotti(2M)
Kaladze(15M) Canini(6M)
Janku(11M)
Seedorf(13M) Ballack(10M)
Brocchi(1M) Sammarco(1.5M)
Emerson(2M) Hernanes(14M)
Borreillo(18M) Gomez(26M)

Thats what I would have done, the transfer fee are lots but at least it will cut the wages.

This is just more unjustified attacks that don't have any facts backing them. I'm speaking in general. I'm making a generalization (generalizations are not false by any means). I'm not talking to the exceptions of rules, but I'm speaking generally of how long Italians last. I think Panucci is still a good player... Grosso will last as long... and he'll probably switch positions later in his career. Heck, even Maldini switched to one over another.

Why should we invest in someone younger if this player is consistent and very reliable?

Milano84

the bigger issue is there arent many young lbs who are good. Vargas should have been the move. Clichy from arsenal would be best young left back. He's probably worth 25 mil. Same with lahm

clichy was voted LB on epl team last season by players, coaches. Over evra.

who is better between clichy and evra? personal choice. Clichy is 22, evra is 27 though. both r very fast, good defenders, good crosses. I really like clichy, but wenger wont let him go so moot point.

lahm, is very good. he made 1 mistake on torres, and quite frankly, i cant really blame him, torres made an great run. He did make huge plays against portugal and turkey to get them there though... i'd agree hes overpriced though

Yeah but Turkey punished the entire German backline and nearly pulled off an upset of the year I think... even if Lahm scored that winning goal, his defending was less tan impressive.

I'm impressed by Evra and I'd like to see him playing for Milan, but that's not gonna happen...

..lol the official squad list http://www.acmilan.com/lm_team_roster.aspx

Abate as a defender...Zambrotta as a midfielder...Seedorf as striker/attacker. Let's hope that'll be fixed soon enough.

Maybe that's what Milan think, Seedorf will only play as AM (which means forward for Milan, like Serginho couple of seasons ago). And about Abate, if he is not loaned out probably Milan will 'turn' him to a fullback as in midfield he almost had no chance, first because he is a type that Ancelotti very rarely uses and second because he is still very young to compete with other midfielders, plus Carlo has succeded to make Serginho have better defensive skill.

with our current midfielders I would either use:
Flamini Pirlo Ambrosini (New flame!)
OR
Gattuso Pirlo Seedorf (Classic masters)

flamini and pirlo have to be in the starting eleven. i will omit gattuso as he does not have good passing and offensive skills.
so it will be flamini-pirlo-ambrosini or flamini-pirlo-seedorf.

i really think paloschi is inzaghi's long term replacement, but unfortunately i cant see him get much playing time this season, so it is better to loan him out than putting him on the bench.

now we need to sell simic, there is no point to keep him.
actually i prefer milan to sell brocchi and keep abate, but it will not happen as abate has been loaned out to torino.
