Bit disappointed by this, I hoped we would at least get an experienced manager - this seems to be a cheap alternative. Eitherway, we'll see what happens.

Good luck Carlo whereever you might go.

Welcome Leo hope he has some bright ideas for our team.
Guardiola proved that you don't need that kind of experience but I must say Leo will have more work to make the new Milan.
But we still have a good spine ;)

Channel 4 reports:

Carlo Ancelotti has announced he is leaving Milan this summer "by mutual consent,” but refused to confirm a deal with Chelsea.

“In agreement with the club we have decided to terminate the contract a year early,” he said after the 2-0 victory at Fiorentina secured automatic entry into the Champions League.

“My wonderful experience with this side ends today. I thank all the players, directors, fans and everyone involved.

“I think it ends in the right way and is probably the right choice for both of us. The respect and affection remains with all the people who over the years participated in this adventure.”

The split has been on the cards for some time, but Ancelotti continued to insist he had not lied when he said he was “100 per cent” sure of staying.

“We spoke about it after the game with [Vice-President Adriano] Galliani and [President Silvio] Berlusconi. We decided together to make this decision without problems. We part in sync and with no disagreements.”

He is expected to join Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, especially after writing in his book about a meeting with Roman Abramovich.

“I cannot officialise my future because I do not have an agreement with any other club.”

President Berlusconi did not always support his Coach in public, but again Ancelotti refused to criticise the patron.

“I have great respect and love for President Berlusconi. We've had a few disagreements over the years, but this is the day to thank him for eight wonderful years of my career.

“He let me spend nearly a decade at the helm of a great club that was at the top of world football, so my gratitude goes beyond the odd phone call.

“The decisions were made at the end of this season. It was a complicated campaign and we left it two months ago with the agreement we'd make the decision after the final game. That's what we did.

“I hope you'll know what my future is soon. London is not necessarily the guaranteed next stop.”

Ok, Let me stomp on the Guardiola parade. Guys and gals, I don't know how much Guardiola did to impact Barca, I'm sure he did something. But let's be honest here, the current Barca's side is built in Frank Rijkaard's image - and the style of play is not a dramatic shift from Frank.

So, if Leo is our answer to emulating Barca.....well let's see. This summer is the most important and consequential in Milan's history. If we botch our approaches this summer, we will be in the wilderness for a while. Players play the game.....we need a crop of new players in all departments. I hope Leo will get the players he and Milan need. Otherwise we will always be looking up to Inter in Calcio. And in Europe, the competition will only get harder.

Goodbye to Ancelotti. I was in tears. Goodbye, thank you for what you've done and good luck in the future.

I am happy that Leonardo is the new coach. I think he will be good for us. Let's hope he will get the right players for the next season. The important thing is to be patient during the summer and get the right players which should hopefully result in saying good bye to those players who are too old to continue for us.

He will have to complete a coaching course to be ready to coach us. I read that on wikipedia. :)

Guys....... Leonardo's been a director and a scout for us, and as such his eye for talent is quite good.

Need I remind you who paved the way for Kaka and Pato to come to Milan?

He may not have the experience as a coach just yet, but he's proven himself to be Milansta through and through.

Judging by the way Uncle Fester and Leo were hugging today, I'm beginning to suspect that the way we played today may have been a bit of Leo's doing. :D

Ancelotti was the best coach of Milan for me at least.

The best 5 coaches in every time were Nereo Rocco, Sacchi, Capello and Ancellotti.

Sacchi and Capello had a second return with Milan which were not positive.

Mr Suma on Milan Channel said that an Ancelotti future return to Milan is possible and this will be his real challenge to succeed for the second time, something that the others fail.

I really wish that this thing happens, also to break the record Of Nereo Rocco in the number of games coaching Milan.

In the meantime GOOD LUCK to Leonardo.

It's been a rollercoaster ride with Ancelloti

Like him or hate he brought us finals and trophies.

Win Lose or Draw for the most part we played attractive football.

He pretty much guided this group of players through their careers.

I must admit finding out this news brought a tear to my eye.

But all good things come to an end and lets see what there is in stall for us.

Well can't say I was one of the guys calling for Carlo's head, but I have to admit I am really excited about which way Milan is gonna go now. Non of us have any idea of what kind of coach Leonardo is, he's done great things for Milan as a player, and as a scout/director. He's extremely sympathetic, and although Carlo was to, I still feel that it's healthy for us considering Calciopoli.

It will be interesting to see if he'll continue with the same basic formation (4-3-2-1, 4-3-1-2) or he'll come up with something new. Personally I think he'll be most likely to not change things around to much, since the problem with Carlo never was the style that we played.

Also the mercato is gonna be interesting to say the least. Everytime we've started a new 'era' Berlusconi has spent big, with Sacchi and last time with Pirlo, Nesta and Rui Costa, so it'll be interesting to see if that repeats itself.

Anyways, good luck to Leonardo, I've always been a great fan of him as a player and a scout, and I'm hoping he'll do as great as a coach as he did as the former.

The thing that worries me is Milan's approach. As we all know, he did indeed pave the way for Pato and Kaka and has been the main driver behind scouting in Brazil. BUT, is Milan going to turn into another Inter? In a few years will our starting lineup consist of 0 Italian players?

I am for the move as I think Ancelotti has surely lost the plot, but Leonardo must focus on the youth system and also bring in the Italian talent as well. Let's not forget, FIFA is looking deep into the 6+5 rule, and Milan cant drive down a wrong path and be stranded if the rule comes into effect.

Not only that, An Italian champion (League or in Europe) should consist of Italian talent. We started 7 Italians in the CL final vs. Liverpool. The way things should be... Many may disagree, but this is how I stand. I dont think Milan's shirt should change to Green and Gold so quick....

a great scout who we will lose if he doesn't make the grade.
A puppet manager who will do berlisconis bidding.
Football manager 2010 with berlusconi as manager of Milan
Berlu said I want someone who knows the rossonerri. What
About rijkaard he knows us. But is his own man.
English fans and pundits alike claiming carlo won't cut it but
Now without his hands tied behind his back re transfers I predict he will
Be a success at chelsea
And I bet my shirt that we will face Chelsea in ucl next season.

bLOND !-,-!
31-05-2009, 13:36
im also afraid....
what if leonardo is just a puppet from galliani and berlu, what if he is even worse than carlo, and what if galliani and berlu decided: hmm, carlo started to use his own head a little bit, he doesn't put R80 in first 11 anymore, let's fire him and put some other idiot who will listen us more than carlo.
that's one version, and other version is that leonardo will be something like guardiola, so that means a great, new, young coach with attacking mentality who will use completely different tactics, formation and use completely different players..
and we will see this already in leo's first game, if seedorf will play in first 11, that means that leo is a puppet......

I'll try to say something objective:

Leonardo is a great scout, and we can probably say he has a good eye in players perception. Specially with players that can develop further. Its known that Leonardo has won over Berlusconi with some of his picks and that on his green light Berlusconi payed large money for Pato, Thiago and invested in Kaka'.

We can hope that Berlusconi can have some trust in Leonardo's choices after that. We have seen now that Carlo didnt even knew who is Kaka' when Kaka' arrived, he had nothing to do with players Milan picked. ( Im not blaming Carlo here, Im just saying most likely Milan will listen to Leonardo also in the future...)

So I want to say that this could be the case where our coach, due to his past achievements in that plan, has influence in mercato. Which, sadly, should be a normal thing in AC Milan.

The other side:

It could mean Milan is not willing to spend much and will let Leo work with few young players and start the new circle slowly. Or maybe we will invest and the change was simply needed.

I have faith in Leonardo. It has nothing to do with this stupid Holywood title "Guardiola of Milan". Peppe had complete squad that is simply brilliant. After all I dont see Guardiola as superme master coach etc. Leonardo is Leonardo, I know he has a feeling for players capacity and he can do that well. Tactics are the question we cant answer to untill we see him on our bench.

I also hope we will not play brasilian football but serious and disciplined as Milan always does. It doesnt mean its defensive, its just serious and smart.

Great news!!!!!!! Milan has been cured! The disease is gone and now we shall start our rehabilitation program and start from zero.

Good luck to Carlo (I think he will be Perez's surprise at Real) and good luck to Leonardo. I just want to know more about this 'coaching degree' he's going to take that I read about above, and more about who will be the assistant coaches and managers.

I also have a question for Maltese Charlie and other old fans of Milan. Has Milan been picking up old free players for cheap just under the Carlo Ancelotti era or was it before? As far as I recall, at the start of every era, we've seen Berlusconi spend big...is that right?

it's nauseating to see Galliani hugging Leonardo on the stand when Milan scored and when Ancelotti was still on the bench.

I'll be honest with you: I think this 'Milan-is-like-a-family" value and philosophy is nothing but a smokescreen to attract talents when they are needed.

When they are no longer needed, when resources trump, or when pathetic fans cry for anyone's exit, the management will do exactly that: family no more.

brk
31-05-2009, 15:15
I don't know. The way I interpreted it was that there was this constant fear that what Galliani and Leo have been planning for the summer all depends on securing 3rd place. What I saw was relief from both of them that their plans are still on track and won't change. I didn't see it as forced emotions for the cameras.

Family atmosphere doesnt mean that clubs priorities are on the first place. After all, and above all, ac Milan is a football club/firm that has certain organization and everyone in there has his own place. Family is a wrong expression to describe the way things work at professional institution.

I would have preferred that Milan bring in an experienced coach like Prandelli or someone with a similar track record, but I know that Leonardo loves Milan and he will do everything he can -- and surround himself with the people he needs -- to be the best coach he can be. It's always exciting (and maybe a bit apprehensive) when your club goes in a new direction -- even if that direction isn't a radical departure from the past. So I'm hopeful about the future and I will give Leonardo my full support (for what little that is worth). Hopefully he can be as successful as Pep Guardiola has been at Barcelona.

One thing I was thinking is that Leonardo has been responsible for most of the younger talent that Milan has brought in. That would seem to be a sign of encouragement to those who are always bitching because Milan doesn't cast off every player who turns 30 or brings in a player over 25. He has a good eye for talent and he seems to have the trust of Silvio and Uncle Fester in scouting and player development matters. What he might not yet know as far as the x's and o's are concerned, he can surround himself with assistants who know their way around the strategy and the tactics. His main job at first should be to rebuild the squad and to manage things properly. If he can do that, I'm sure Milan will be in good hands.

I have to question this statement. What in the world do you mean by Tassoti? Leonardo was an old-boy, just the same. Leo is starting his coaching, just as Guardiola was 12 months ago.

Just because Tassoti sat on the bench with Carlo doesn't mean that he has an advantage over Leo.

Mind you, I'm not trying to pick sides here, just stating objective arguments. I just feel that it's unfair for you to compare Pep to Tassoti, but not to Leo....

I'm happy Carlo is gone because we needed the change at the club, but I'm not sure if someone as inexperienced as Leo is the right person for the job. I wish Leo all the best, however, and I'm excited to see how he shapes his Milan for next season.

P.s. is it just Leo or are we having the trident of coaches in Leo, Galli and Tassotti.

I don't know, my fear is Leo will have no leverage to build his own team. How can he go into berlu's office and go "look, I'm dropping ronaldinho, this 3 man attack thing is not working." when he has no experience and no credentials?

I do believe he is an incredibly intelligent man though, and I have no doubt he knows what he's doing, just not sure whether he's very good at it yet. I think Tassotti would have been a mistake, there has to be a shake up, new ideas, and tassotti would not have represented that.

Thanks Carlo. Good luck.

We venture into the unknown now.

Not that we arent equipped for next season as we stand, to not totally embarass the club, its fans, and its crest...but as this campaign has proven, our bench was not (again) deep enough to compensate for the loss of the starting players, inconsistency ruled the day on numerous occasions, and points were dropped.

Next term therefore, for us to be considered serious contenders, on three fronts, we will need significant investment, and sales of players, to not only aquire what Leonardo requests, but simply to replace those who leave.

Leo has the ear of Berlu, this for us could be a good thing...will our patron now cough up the funds he hasnt for quite some time, this year? We already have what, 12M pounds for Gorky right? Hmmm..seems we already have funds to go shopping in S America....:dontkn:

The reactions of Galliani and Leonardo for me (as has been said) were more of genuine relief that their plans were actually going to go ahead. This is comforting (despite the obvious hypocracy of it all) in that it indicates that we have been planning this for some time, and therfore targets would be already identified, if not confirmed (hopefully..yes, the glass is half full) and as such, summer training could have the full complement of players Leo wants. (Always a good thing to help build chemistry and integrate the new players).

Nesta´s return was a welcome sight today, and a lot rests on his form, and ability to play through a grueling season (if we challenge on all 3 fronts), regardless, we will stillneed a partner for Silva, (who cannot be Favalli, if that is, we are thinking of actually targetting any silverware next term. Key players in key positions, surgical replacements, say, Seedorf out, Essien in :delol:

The nucleus that Leonardo has inherited is sound, Pato, Kaka, Ronaldinho are a trio of such potential that it seems difficult to understand why they havent played more...and this, more than anything, this insistence by Carlo to leave Ronaldino on the bench, was a factor in Berlu´s decision to part ways with the clubs most successful coach, IMO.

A glimpse of the future? Berlu the pupeteer, this time 100% pulling all strings...?

Hope not.

So, into a world of fantasy...Leo has a hard task ahead of him, what with Guardiola setting such an unbelieveable precedent, I find it hard for circumstance to conspire with fate to give us anything but a challenge for European places (of any form) next term, though I certainly hope otherwise.

In a best case scenario, Leo will have all he needs to go for glory...lets see if he has the leadership skills to control the egos and push all the right buttons, not to mention his tactical nous...

Best of Luck Leo.

Forza Milan!!

It's very, very interesting to see Carlo in Chelsea. I can't wait to see how he will do in Britain.

With his skills I think he could teach some of their stars a lesson in humility. Drogba is a striking example of a fantastic player who is presenting himself in a bad way. Lampard could be taken a notch down as well.

Maybe the man is truly capable. We cant say if he is an upgrtade or downgrade. Its not serious to talk about someone you know **** about ( talking about his coaching abilities). We know he reads players well, well see abut the setup plan in serie a. But I doubt Leonardo is a naive man who will play 4-2-4 football as people think just coz he is brazilian...

Milan Coach Leonardo: Carlo Ancelotti Motivated Me To Take The Job

Leonardo has been officially unveiled as the new Milan coach, and he is hoping to bring success and build upon what former tactician Carlo Ancelotti left behind...
1 Jun 2009 12:00:04

Carlo Ancelotti
Leonardo has spoken of his delight after being unveiled as Milan's new coach on Monday, and he is ready to continue building as he works towards brining more success to the club.

Milan have confirmed the former Brazil international has signed a two year deal which expires on June 30, 2011. Leonardo is hoping he can lead the club back to glory as he prepares to settle down and begin a new adventure.

"I am tied to Milan with great affection. It's an important day for me, it's special and different to what I could have imagined," Leonardo told Sky Sport Italia during his unveiling.

"I am truly happy for this choice. I have been here for 12 years and starting after Carlo means something even deeper as I had a good rapport with him."

Leonardo spent Sunday saying farewell to his former mentor, and he admits Ancelotti had a helping hand in pushing him to take on the role.

"It was extraordinary yesterday and to see all the players crying was strong," added the coach.

"Carlo has always stimulated me to accept this role. It has been difficult over the last few days with everything that has happened.

"I am happy, I start a new adventure. Now we have to construct. We have the right foundations in terms of will and determination in place to succeed

"We have a good structure here and I don't think there is any need to make major changes."

Kaka has been linked with plenty of clubs as the transfer rumours continue, but Leonado is not fazed by all the hype, confident his fellow Brazilian will stay.

"Kaka is always a dream for many teams. Honestly, I don't see any problems. We have him here and I hope he continues to stay here with us," added Leonardo.

"Obviously you can never tell what happens with the transfer market, but I am hopeful he will stay."

Welcome to Leonardo as our new coach. As a scout and Galliani's right hand man, he was excellent. Actually, he wasn't just excellent but he excelled in the roles.

As a coach, he's an unknown quantity, I think all of us can agree there. I'm not sure what to expect of him yet, so I can't say he's guaranteed to bring us forward.

In his defence, I can say for certain his knowledge of the game is immense, as he has shown with the BBC many times as a pundit. Honestly, he worked in the last world cup and other events as a pundit and his comments aren't only interesting, he spots things others simply didn't until it became more obvious. Tactically, he was superb and his insight in the game was superb. His eye for talent and judging how players will work is superb and without and doubt he's as intelligent as is often said. In this regard, I have complete faith in him.

His man management skills also appear to be excellent, as he has a great rapport with everyone within the club. However, the problem, or rather uncertainty that surrounds him for me is whether he can make sure his instructions are followed and discipline is maintained within the squad.

There are many opinions of him possibly being a puppet for the upper management. Carlo was never a puppet (he said this much in his book), and Leo I doubt will be either, he's too clever to get used in such a way.

Right now I can only say I'm excited by this move. I'm not sure whether Leo will succeed, but in all honesty he's got many abilities and skills and for certain he's got many key attributes to succeed as a coach.

We cant say much about Leo. But we know Cappello and Sacchi were created the same way Leonardo is being created now.

Sacchi coached before coming to Milan, but Capello did come through a similar path as Leo.

Good to hear he seemed competent at BBC. He does seem like a smart guy, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he'll come up with.

Marcel Desailly noted one thing that might be problem for Leonardo though. He said that Leonardo simply was to 'nice' a guy to be a coach, he didn't seem like someone that would yell at the players and motivate them that way, like Capello. It's hard to say if he's right, indeed Leonardo does seem like a nice guy, but Ancelotti did so to, and as he just revealed in his book, he did give the players the hairdryer on occassions. Though I doubt that Leonardo will be able to make the players fear him like Capello did, but that's not necessarely a bad thing though.

Erm... the thing is noone knows anything about his coaching abilities, because at the moment he hasn't coached! (thank you captain obvious)

I have a strong feeling that next year we will get crushed by your enemy #1 Carlo's Chelsea in the Champions League.
Any team in the world would be happy to sign Ancelotti! He got signed to another top club IN ONE DAY after he was made available with 2 top clubs showing interest! He is a top coach, and hopefully this stupid mistake we made won't come back to haunt us next season.

My god...he didnt get signed in one day dont be naive. He was Chelseas coach for a while we just needed to wait untill the end of the season to solve technical details. It was all done before and he just gave it official today.

So what if we get beaten by Chelsea? ( I dont know how you have that feeling, maybe you have special powers, manthical or something...). Right now Chelsea, players wise, has MUCH stronger team then Milan. If we played Chelsea this year we would also be crushed.

I dont care anyway, Milan needed fresh start as the team and the sistem got washed out. It was obvious. Im sure Galliani and Berlusconi liked Ancelotti, but even they decided that its time for a change. Some things need to finish when its not working anymore. And it wasnt working, so obviousely! Come on, be real for a sec about it.

For the past 3 years in serie a this squad simply wasnt working well. Results showed it and we opted for a man who is here for 12 years and obviousely knows something about football looking at his judging of players. Maybe he'll suck! If he starts leading the team in subjective and biased way like Carlo did I will also look for his change. I care only about Milan's game, not about individuals in ac Milan.

He said he admires 1982 Brazil's side but he won't make Milan this way because those were the 80's and you can't play so offensively today, he also said that he likes to play with wingers pushing all the time, so i guess there will be a considerate change from Carlo's tactics. And he prefers the 4-3-1-2 formation so we will finally see a more attacking Milan, i hope. I can't wait for the new season to start and see how will the new formation look like.

Mrki, saying that Ancelotti made subjective and biased choices is weird, especially when you say it is bad ...

The fact is that a coach is a person like everyone and of course, he has to take some decisions, so his choices are of course subjective.

Then, saying that a coach leads a team in a biased way is not correct as the only person who is probably less biased than everyone else in a club is the coach. And we, as the fans, are the most biased.

Anyway, welcome to Leonardo and let's hope for good years ... but that won't depend only on Leonardo, it will even more likely depend on who we will buy this summer.

A bad coach will make a team loosing with good and with bad players.
A good coach will make a team winning if he has good players.
Give a Serie C team to the best coach in the world and he won't manage to do anything special with them.

Right... Every single Milan player cried and cried when the news of his departure was there because of Ancelotti's commitment and the result of his commitment which led to 8 years of unforgetable football in the most beautiful football club in the world done with such grace and humility that all of the world accepted and spoke of him as a master tactician with brilliance only few possess.

And in the moment he is gone by mutual consent we cannot cry and we cannot think back with joy as the Milan hearts we are? We cannot live and dream with the beautiful memories he gave us and think: wow, it's finally over and shed a tear for what was there?

No? We cannot feel love for Ancelotti? Boy, your comment there and the rest of the comments against Carlo and the ungrateful things we can read here on this forum makes me think of how wrong it is to even get close to display this lack of humility and decent behaviour which should instead be shown, towards Ancelotti, Milan, Milan's fans and the rest of the football world.

Oh man, I talk about difference between Chelsea and Milan this year and he talks about serie a games where we loose points vs Reggina, Doria, Lecce, Torino etc. And thinks its normal to say such things and to compare them.

Its enough. We had better team then we had results, I think Carlo didnt create 100% out of these players. That is my oppinion. Simply said. Noone will demolish anything if coach leaves after 8 years in the club. Things like that are NORMAL in ALL the clubs in Europe except United. Barca saw Rijkaard's team needs refreshment and they simply did it. Milan also needs it. Is Leo the right man I dont know and you cant say that he is a "downgrade" to Carletto as he may be a good coach as he is scout.

Geo I consider him to be subjective in some of his individual choices in Milan's lineup. That is what I think, it doesnt matter if it sounds nice or not. Some agree, some dont, it doesnt matter. Im not a priest I dont have to love everyone to be nice and feel well. Im happy he is gone and atleast I always told you I want him out. I was fair and never changed my mind about wanting new coach in Milan. He managed players well and was loved by his players. But he couldnt let go of some players and couldnt stay professional in more then one ocasion when it comes to picking the people who'll play. Its the end of a circle, those things are normal. I dont see how Carlo would be able to sell Seedorf and bench Pirlo etc. He'd never do it, its healthy he went away.

forza Milan and good luck to Leonardo!

One big fear I have is that now there is a chance that the 6+5 rule will start to affect Milan as well; since Leo will undoubtedly hire more Brazilians.

In any case, the most refreshing thought was that he prefers attacking full backs. Lets hope that's the case as we desperately need that dynamism and verve.

As long as those Brazilians are great players, I really don't mind. though I would prefer a more "Italianized" squad, but winning comes first to me.

Also, is that "6+5" for real? Will it get passed the EU? People keep talking about it these days, but all I know that is for sure is that UEFA has some rule of having 2 (or 4 or 6) homegrown players in the squad, but they don't have to the ones that play on the pitch.

I think the club and Leonardo are aware about that rule and that they are not stupid to the point of bying only Brazilian/South American/Non-Italian players ... I don't worry too much about that, I don't remember when this rule will become official, but even if we buy 3 Brazilian players this summer, that will just mean that we will buy 3-4 Italian players then ... a good way to (have to) rejuvenate (difficult word lol) the team sooner or later.

The 6+5 rule is tricky as it is a direct violation to the European Union.
It will be interesting to see what happens beside I am sure by the time of the 6+5 rule, Kaka, and Pato will be Italian citizens by then. Come to think of it, Kaka already qualify as an IT citizen.

I am an old-school and nostalgic person and I have mixed feeling towards Ancelotti, but he is gone, so he is gone. This is a HUGE time for change, and it is the least to say that we don't change now, we won't change forever. I am not a drastic revolutionist that calls for revoking all the 30+ players' contracts, but if we were to keep buying Nedved, RvN, Ronaldo or even Toni, I would want to poke my own eyes out. It is time to CHANGE. I appreciate all players in R&B, but I just don't think I could take another Emerson - he doesn't even have a Milan heart!

I don't know Leonardo as a coach, as I haven't seen one single match that he coached (am I the only one? :D), but I am hoping that he will pull a Guardiola rather than Klinsmann. either way, he has my full support as he does have a Milan heart.

They talk about this rule every year and nothing happens, there are teams which cannot cope with this kind of rule like Inter, Arsenal so this rule won't be implemented in near future if ever will be, because it goes against eu laws.

Actually, it has recently been declared that the rule DOES NOT violate any European laws. It was found to only include minor secondary discrimination, but does not violate a law. The reason is that it has nothing to do with nationality. It binds the 6+5 rule to the players' assignment with the National team in the country of the league. So this means that in Italy, your team must include 6 players that play for Italy, regardless of their citizenship. This is how they got it around the discrimination laws. The plan is that by 2011, it would be a 4+7, meaning 4 players have to be from the same nationality. Then 5+6 the year after and 6+5 after that.

Reza
01-06-2009, 15:17

You mean plays in Italy? So it's just a variation of what we were talking about, doesn't count against quota if the person previously played in the same league (Serie A)?

Gabriel489

Plays in Italy or play for Italy National Team or IT citizenship? Thats a huge difference.

I just think this 6+5 rule is a bad idea, as it does not even the playing field and it also drops the competition.
The only thing that is good from it, is that small clubs can now sell their local players at a much higher price.

Rico

It's very wrong to say you have to be from a specific country to be part of a football team.

It is normal that you can be from anywhere on the planet to play football. Football is a passion and the day you cannot play because you are not from the right country football dies and the passion with it.

No, it's playing for the National Team of the league you're playing in. So Camoranesi would count as an italian; but Kaka won't.

I think this would be the best development in football since the offside rule.

You still have 5 spots in your team for world class players. No team in the world has 5 world class foreigners in their team, so it really won't limit the maximum potential for quality.

You will be forced to look for quality italians (or englishmen, or whatever) to fill the rest of the 6 spots. This is the genius of the rule. Clubs would rush to develop youth academies and national teams would benefit enormously. It would also diminish the power that big money clubs would have on the game.

I really don't see what the problem is.

Not really sure what to make of it. Leonardo apparently being a little messed up and worried really isn't a good sign, I just hope he's ok for the new season.

Leonardo isnt messed up,and acctually just follow me on this one, hear me out.

I also read the comments and he says he felt guilty because of the fact that he had much money while people acctually were suffering from hunger(he didnt used this example but this kind of issues were problems for him).I think him thinking like this is good for the team. What the **** does Leo's mental problems are going to help us winning anything you think>???Well i think that this kind of person we need in front of our team,he will not take anything granted and will make the team and each player sweat for their places, everybody will have to run on the field if they want to have a starting place.Because thats the person he is,he knows the players are lucky to be rich etc.(at least thats his opinion)and he wont let them be lazy,he will let them work for their money,i am sure about it because thats his mentality,he is going to try to bring his ideas over to the team.

He still wants to coach, but believes he already possesses fine administrative skills, yet little tactical awareness. Leo said that since he learnt his previous skills so well (scouting etc.), there is no excuse as to way he can't improve his tactical brain....

Leo may well be messed up as far as we know. Unless you see him personally on a regular basis you can't say he isn't. If anything given the recent activity surrounding Milan and Leo, I would be messed up too in his shoes as it is a very stressful position to be in. On top of that, if mentally he suffers a lot, this could be detrimental to the team as he may bring personal problems to the squad, which is not good for the squad.

You're very much projecting your desires onto him right now. Saying these mental problems will benefit the team because he will make them work is something you're hoping for. Same goes for saying "that's his mentality", we don't know his mentality so we can't be sure of anything. The reality is this could be a potentially big problem if Leo isn't mentally strong.

He still wants to coach, but believes he already possesses fine administrative skills, yet little tactical awareness. Leo said that since he learnt his previous skills so well (scouting etc.), there is no excuse as to way he can't improve his tactical brain....

That's not what he says though, he essentially just sees coaching as a stop gap in his administrative career. Quite honestly, coaching is a very difficult job and whilst I'm sure Leo will do his best, it's not a positive sign that he doesn't see a future in this. It's not a really convincing that we've made the best choice for a coach given his own view of the role.

I want the best for him as I've always had a huge amount of respect for him, but the articles in my last two posts are really quite unnerving and for me, it's not the best sign right now. All that said, I trust Leo's intelligence and knowledge of the game to believe he'll be able to do pretty well.

Just because some third person says our coach is "messed up" doesn't mean anything to me. For now, I'm looking forward to seeing Leo's press conferences and seeing how we do in the friendlies coming up this month. Then once the season starts, we will know whether Leo can transform this team. From the sounds of it, managment are willing to give him a proper chance, and from what I've seen of him as a director, I see no reason why he can't succeed.

Borriello: Leo's tougher than Carlo
Wednesday 15 July, 2009
Marco Borriello explains what has changed at Milan since Leonardo took over from Carlo Ancelotti. “It’s a lot more disciplined.”

The striker spent much of last season on the sidelines due to a recurring injury, but is raring to go under the new boss.

“More or less everything has changed at the Milanello complex. First of all it’s a lot more disciplined, as the Coach is very strict.

“We are always working with the ball, which allows us to be sharper and more reactive compared to, for example, the start of last season.”

For this term Borriello will be wearing the Number 22 jersey that until last month was worn by Kaka.

“The 22 is a number that is significant in my life. For example, it is my mother’s birthday and also the shirt I wore in my best ever season at Genoa,” he told Milan Channel.

“I certainly did not have luck last year, so I had to change the 11 jersey I had then. There’s no point making comparisons with Kaka, we play different roles and besides, he is beyond reach.”

The pressure is growing on Ronaldinho to take a more commanding role and Borriello thinks it is just what the Brazilian needs.

“I expect a great deal from him and hope he can repeat the wonderful first half of the season he had in Serie A.

“I think that with Kaka’s departure it might free Ronaldinho a little in terms of mentality. I’m certain we’ll rediscover a great Ronaldinho who will give us that step up in quality.”

Its good to see Milan will focus alot more on the ball. Although, I was a big supporter of Ancelotti there were a few things I wished he changed.

We survived alot, especially when we were leading towards the end of games. Hopefully, this Milan will look to play a little more quality football, while being more blood thirsty when going for the three points. Whether he has the players for this, the season will tell.

Id also like to see us defend set pieces alot better. Yes Dida used to flap at crosses, but our defenders always looked confused too.

Finally, towards the end of Carlo's reign, we suffered to many shots on goal from opponents and didnt hit the target nearly enough ourselves. I hope there is a little more focus towards the goal.

I am getting quite excited to see what Leo has up his sleaves. He looked pretty nervous on the bench the other day.

Definetly agree, set pieces is something that really needs to be worked on, but not only defending also attacking set pieces. Remember last season, some games we would get 10+ corners and not even get remotly close to a chance. I know we don't have alot of tall players, but if we can't create anything from crossing the ball from a corner, then why do it? Why not play short corners then? That's what Barcelona does. We really should score more goals from Corners, and I hope Leo can help with that.

It's gonna be interesting how Leo will end up playing. I didn't get to watch the Varese game, but I can understand that we played a 4-3-3? In that case then why are we looking for a striker and not a right wing ala Robben? Am I the only one who'd rather have Pato playing as the striker in a 4-3-3 than a winger?

Whats the worst that can happen? He could get sacked 10 games in like Terim and be replaced by Splaletti, Prandelli or Donadoni. Now Im worried

He will be fine.

AC Milan boss Leonardo, who took over after Carlo Ancelotti's eight-year reign this summer, is now an approved coach. The Brazilian passed the second category course for professional coaches from UEFA and expressed his delight.

"An exam is always an exam, it always causes butterflies in your stomach," he laughed to Sky.

"I always communicated with my teachers and am pleased with the outcome."

The former Paris St. Germain player is now ready to take on the challenge of leading the side in Serie A and the Champions League.

"It was made official today and to be a coach gives me great pleasure, it was a surprise in my life [to be coaching Milan]. The course was long and difficult, but it was the right decision."

"The players have shown great motivation, we are eager to start."

He speaks Spanish, Portugese, English, Italian and Japanese... At least, I think I heard he knows two more languages, but may be my memory failing me.
