Borri makes space for everyone else. Pippo tries to hunt for space for himself. That's a major difference.

I actually missed the Pirlo goal. I heard it from another room. I thought Real scored a second.

About being or not a 'Seedorf hater'... well, I guess that's not the question: the surely knows his business, period. But he's not anymore a dependable performer, and that's a sure thing also.

It's not a question of who's better, but rather who to use in each specific game. They're all different, although Klaas and Pippo are a bit alike.

I thought Leo's post-match was pitch perfect. He's great with the media.

I haven't laughed myself onto the floor on a comment on here in a long time but this was absolutely world-class.....

I'd like to see what Blacktop has to say this time about Dida. It's always nice to see people with blind faith run out of things to say (just like Galliani and Berlusconi). I believe it's time to rescind the contract.

Wasn't the greatest of first halves..but Pirlo's goal was the shock we've been looking for all season. It truly woke us up. It sounded like the Bernabeu was full of Milanista's singing Ale Ale Ale Milan Ale. I knew at the point that we we were going to score and we did a few minutes later.

Awesome game from Oddo. Seedorf played the best match of his career today. Nesta and Thiago were fantastic, they showed us the art of defending (apart from that mix-up with Ambro that let Raul through). Zambrotta was horrible, if that penalty counted I think it would have been the end of Zambro in a Milan shirt.

Even after his goal though, I did not think Pirlo was great and he still is the problem in our side. We are predictable with him there. Ronaldinho was absolutely horrible today. He did a few good tricks but they were useless, my fav one was the Raul slap.

Pato can be better than this. He's gotta learn to be more precise and more decisive. He could have been the reason we lost today's game cause he missed quite a bit of chances. Regardless, he had a good game. Boriello's introduction did quite a lot for our game. I dont know if it was a coincedence that Pirlo scored soon after he came on, but Milan def started to play better after Boriello and the goal came.

I thought Zambro was fine other than the penalty. Oddo had an above average game. I still try Antonini out next Serie A game. Dinho has too go. He tries to do tricks all the time because that is all he has at this point in his career. And I love my Pirlo, and he woke the team up today.

Sorry to bring us down on this happy day, but if we had Gorky and Cisskho, we would be the best in Europe

Hala Milan! :bri:

What a performance this was! I still can't believe we beat Real at Bernabeu!

Not even in my dreams I believed that Leonardo is so brave. For fielding 4-3-3 with just one defensive-minded midfielder in an away match against Real you have to have BALLS. His push of Seedorf from left into the middle was as crucial for the match as was Borriello's introduction. Bravo, Leonardo.

Despite the win, one have to be fair and say that our midfield didn't protect defense well. That said, stop talking bull**** about Oddo is bad, or Zambrotta is bad, because considering how much protection they got from the midfield, our defense was HEROIC.

One other thing we should change after this match is that we have to stop calling Seedorf "Slowdorf". :-) This man at the age of 33 is anything but slow. Ronaldinho is slower.

We should continue using this system, but we need either Flamini or Gattuso because we lack a midfield cover. Ambro doesn't have the legs anymore, though I personally think that right now he's better player then Flamini who's not so calm and composed.

Seedorf didn't do THAT good IMHO. His shot was way way of.

Dinho's running set up Pato's 2nd goal. The defenders were absolutely fooled by Dinho's position and Seedorf's ball holding(as if he's playing in the 20th century).

Didn´t read all the posts here, but one thing imo is being overlooked is Leo change of tactics in the second half, that imo won the game for us.

We were playing as always with:

--------------Pirlo--------------

-----Seedorf----------Ambro----

In the second half he changed to it to give Pirlo and Seedorf more freedom:

-------------Ambro--------------

------Seedorf-----------Pirlo-----

That alone give a "partner" to Pato at the right, and liberated Pirlo to pair with Ronaldinho in the left. After that(and Pirlo early goal, for sure), we were much more dynamic in offense, and gave a lot of trouble to Madrid fullbacks...

It was even better, because Marcelo runs were causing trouble to our defense, and with 2 players to explore his back, he stoped to attack. And since he is above average defending, our work was more easy with PAto and Seedorf attackig his flanke.

I don´t like the way that Leo is playing Pato(right winger), just to try to save Ronaldinho. But I´m also tired of to see the agenda some posters here have against Leo.

He´s a rookie coach, and will commit rookie mistakes, period. But anyone that saw Leo analyzing a game(at BBC or here in Brazil), can see that he sees the game as few...

If it was Mourinho, Lippi or any Italian coaches to do this, these same people would have been here praising the guy as a genius. Ahhhhh the double standards:yuck:

Props to Seedorf also, and for Dida to come back after the worst error that I saw in my life. Showed character to come back after that "thing".

Btw(who played knows what I´m talking about), it was clear that Milan players came to the second-half to save Dida´s skin. It always happens when we lhave a teammate that scored a own goal or when a GK do what Dida did...

We try even harder to not let our teammate bad... Book it:5ok:

EDIT: Props also to Ronaldinho to give Raul what he deserve for years. Best play of Ronaldinho in a Milan t-shirt:) That mafioso deserved that!!

Seriously, Nesta has to be the smartest player on earth...He makes everything look so easy!!! If we had him last year, we would have been champions for sure..

One more thing, I have to praise Oddo, he was really good tonight...in all honesty atm, he is better than zambrota..he needs just to improve his crossing, which wasnt that bad tongiht.

Great post Brasileiro, I agree that it definetly was much better when we started playing Seedorf and Pirlo infront of Ambrosini. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, Pirlo really works best on the left side of the midfield these days. There's simply not enough movement in front of him when he's playing in front of the defence, this coupled with the fact that he seems to have gotten worse at passing really gives terrible results. I don't know how many times he tried the same pass to Pato, sometimes it worked, but then Pato was completely isolated with the ball on the left hand side.

Leonardo said that he originaly wanted to play a 4-3-3, and I do think it's working pretty decently at the moment, at least when Pirlo is not playing as a deep lying midfielder as you mentioned. The team, doesn't seem that accustemed to it though. The problem most of the time was that we'd be having Ronalidnho, Pippo and Pato lying on the line of the offside, which resulted in there being to much space between the midfield and the attack, Ronaldinho in particular, but also Pippo needs to drop back more often and help the midfield to close the space.

I do think though that Pato is good on the right. If you look at the goals he's scored this seasons and the chances that he's had, most of them really came when he was at the right side of the attack and Ronaldinho or Seedorf passed the ball across the defense to Pato, like it happened today. Ofcourse playing on the right hand side means that he can't go into the field and shoot as effective (even though he does have a good left foot), but on the other hand, it reallly helps him when he has to finish the passes that he gets from Pirlo/Ronaldinho.

Ofcourse he is a striker, but I don't think he works well in a two man attack with Pippo/Huntelaar. Him and Borriello could be pretty good, since Borriello is a really good ball player actually (Although he's poor goal scorer), but if Pato should play in a two man attack, then it really should be with someone like Robinho or Kaká who he can play of off, and who moves as much as him. The alternative in the 4-3-3 is ofcourse that he plays as the striker, which I thinkwould be fine, but who'd play on the right then?

Anyways, nice observation about Dida, it's pretty much the same thing that happened against Roma.

I liked coming home from minor surgery and seeing the score. At first, I thought I was mis-reading it...but no. Excellent. I'm even reading that Oddo played well. Miracolo.

Just watched a replay of the game. Beautiful result. To be honest the team was nowhere in the 1st half. Pirlo's goal was the difference...brought back some life to the boys...but it shouldn't have gone in...beautiful, powerful shot by Andrea but the goalkeeper was caught asleep....should have had it. In fact all 3 first goals were a result of goalkeeper error. " Goofy"/Ronaldinho did come alive in the second half and made a difference. And Pato...what can you say!...so sure, so confident....never a doubt on both shots. Seedorf did flick a beauty to him for the winner and played a great game. Nesta...terrific. Happy for Dida after that error..he did make some great saves.
Maybe this win will change things for the boys in league play...a real confidence booster!

Spot on Brasileiro.

The players came out with determination in the second half and they did their job......but a huge part of this victory goes to Leo. Like I said before the game started, this game was huge for Leo expecially after the line up. People were either going to praise him or completely make a fool out of him.

- Anyhow, Boriello came in the second half and did great. He wasn't directly involved in the goals but he offered another dimension to the team. Something that we were desperately missing in the first half - An outlet in the middle of the park about 30-35 meters from their goal. Inzaghi just did what he usually does and stayed with the last defender and there was a huge hole in the center of the field right in front of their defense that nobody filled in. Leo did a great job to insert Boriello there in the 2nd half. And like I said, even though he wasn't directly involved in the goals he gave us an outlet and held the ball great a few times. He forced their defenders to leave their line which opened up space behind them. It is exactly what happened on our 2nd goal. And many people are praising Ambro for the assist (rightfully so) and Pato for the goal (righfully so).....BUT nobody mentioned the fact that Boriello checked towards the ball and took a defender with him which dismenteled their defensive line. It is THE movement that led to the goal. If Inzaghi was in he would have just stayed with the last defender and there would never have been space for that ball the drop where it did.

- My MOM would go to Ambrosini and Nesta. Ambrosini played the best I've ever seen him play in the second half. He never missplaced a pass and took away tons of balls. Interceptions and tackles together. He played simple and just played the ball to whoever was close to him. Very easy if you think about it but if you've played as a CM at any level you'll know that it's not easy to do. There is so much going on around you (frong-behind-left-right-etc) and Ambrosini did great for us today. I was surprised that he could do that so calmly. Great job Ambro. As for Nesta, I have no words. What class. What a defender. Simply unbelieavable. As for the mistake mentioned by many (he let the ball bounce and went over him to let Raul through)....you can view it in a couple ways. Yes Nesta lost a little concentration but it was mainly because Ambro went up for the ball and never got to it so Nesta never expected it to touch the ground in the first place. Anyhow....it was a flawless performance.

- Having said all that....Pato and Silva also did great. Pato was clinical today and it's what we need him to be all the time. Ronaldinho wasn't impressive expecially in the first half. But did much better in the second and played a part in the 3rd goal by making a good run out wide. He had some good touches on the ball but found it very hard to deal with the constant pressure from Lass and Ramos whenever he touched the ball. He had one GREAT move when he flew by Pepe and crossed across the face of goal only for Seedorf to shoot at the birds. Seedorf however wasn't bad at all.As a matter of fact he was one of our best performers on the night and I wish he would play like this ALL the time.

All in all.....great job and a great turn-around in the second half. Great determination. Let's see if we can have the same intensity in Serie A this weekend.

The way Borri plays i think he could be effective playing behind Pato and Huntelaar as a trequista type almost. He is strong, distributes the ball well, holds the ball, has a high work rate, and while not traditionally creative, I think he could do pretty well in this role

To me the diff was not so much the grit and determination of the players. Rather it is having T. Silva and Nesta as CBs.

As those two give confidences to the whole team in defense. Thus allowing Leo to push Seedorf, Pirlo and others more forward.

I don't think it is a coincidence that when those two were playing Milan won games against Roma and Real.

everyone needs to sobre up for a second and remember now that Dida nearly cost us another game (and potentially another competition). I haven't seen anyone here mention anything about that goal that Raul chipped over Dida but Nesta saved on the line (the one that was counted for offside). Yes, it was correctly called for offside, but that does not change the fact that DIDA FUMBLED the ball twice in one big game. Luckily for us Raul was offside, cause otherwise, that goal would have counted.

That's it, we gotta stop playing Dida. He does not deserve a spot in this squad and he DEFINITELY does not deserve the 4m per year he gets.

Oh mine.....i have never been so happy and excited in the last couple of weeks as i am right now.....Ecstatic....Bla...bla....bla.....m lost for words. The Galacticasses got pisssed on by the mighty Milan. I mean just reading the headlines in all the leading sports websites and magazines is giving me goose bumps.

Well i was only expecting a draw and we ended up winning which am sure most of us in here weren't expecting atleast until the first half. But the Milan i saw in the second half was not quite a vintage Milan but it showed signs of things to come. Pato is our wonder kid. Nesta s been my idol and he was stronger than a rock and pairing up with Silva, they did a fine job in our defence. Zomby was okay but again seemed to be out of confidence. Oddo did his job not that i expexted him to. Pirlo, Ambrosini and Seedorf did a wonderful job. Ronaldhino was okay loosing balls and trying to gain free kicks.

For me bringing on Boriello and Pirlo s long range shot made all the difference in the game. Boriello s stronger and he plays a little more closer to our midfielders unlike Pippo who is always in the penalty box. Not that am complaining about Pippo. But it adds that flare to our attack. Dida was a litlle too casual at times i guess and thats the reason why we conceded one of the two goals but neverthless he even made some fine saves.

But what i didnt understand was why was Silva s goal disallowed . I mean we deserved that goal. From the replays i dont see any foul commited by Silva.

For me the moment of the match was when Nesta made a goal line save for an offside goal by Raul. It just showed the kind of player he is.

And last but not the least for all my fellow Rossenero s, for all those who believed and had faith. FORZA MILAN

well those journalists we actually very generous considering that a lot of Milan fans around the world and in here were talking about 5-0 4 -0, some even were discussing the possibility of not watching the game due to humiliation scare...so u could not actually blame the Pundits. They did not take in consideration that regardless of form, our team is capable of beating every team on the planet at a given night...If we are lucky and get some easier opponents in the second and third round we and get to the semis...we will most certainly be in the final.Thats how our team works.

I'm also very happy pato finally scored his firs CL goal(s)!!

But still, nothing is solved after this game, this team cant play for the silverware, and thats what I want!! Thats also the reason why I'm bashing the team so much, becouse I want changes, a team to fight for the scudetto and the CL again!!! I want Milan to be the best of Italy and europe again. there is still a lot of (transfer) work to do!!

He definitely gotta go, no way his teammates gonna save his a** for the 'schoolboy error ' again. (in which I think schoolboy would have done much better just to hold a ball ) that was way soo horrible..we cant afford to have 2 CB playing extremelly well, while Dido graciously 'let' others score. Btw, I thought his contract is expiring soon?

Just imagine if the FT score stays 1-0 for RM.. ?!!!

Dida did make mistakes and i dont disagree. He fumbled like a schoolboy or has buttered hands or has a face like a cow or whatever in the world it is. But lets not take everything from him in the Real game. If u ve watched the game u would have also seen him make some very fine saves and if not for those saves we wouldnt have been bragging so much. excellent comments Brasileiro:
- for me playing Pirlo and not Ambro as the guy in front of the back line has stopped paying as it did when Carlo 1st introduced it a long time ago so Pirlo should not play there any more....period
- double standards for judging Leo vs Lippi, Mou, ... spot on mate.
- as for Dida, i think what helped him to have the nerve to stay on the pitch after that "thing" is unfortunately his huge experience in those...i have no confidence in that guy whatsoever and no matter how many other saves he does in a match, he is still going to produce at least one of his trademark horrors per match and that's simply not good enough at this level...i mean i am fan watching on TV and have my heart in my hand every time a shot comes in...any kind of shot....i can't imagine what Nesta-Silva might be feeling...and to be honest that's what has probably contributed to their brilliant performance....trying their best not to have to rely on "Dodo" (to quote Filipez)
- finally brilliant comment about Dinho vs Raul...every single word :)

cheers mate

i think he's far from being the "one of the best mids in the world" because of his unbelievable inconsistency....but as u said he was massive today and it reminded of his performance against the same Real in the 2003 season (if my memory serves me well) when we beat them in Milan 1-0....it was the best i had ever seen him play...

BTW didnt we sign Flavio Roma this summer? why the hell are we playing Dodo? who is a clear idiot, I'm wasnt surprised by his howler, he always does this kind of things. he's the most unreliable goalkeeper we have.

I dont even remember we have flavio roma..

Seedorf was amazing, even Dida was impressive, Pirlo...he is out of this world....even Oddo played well.

I don't understand why some of you are so critical of Ronaldinho in this game.

His task in this game was to hold the ball during our attacks and counter attacks, and he did that wonderfully. He also created / assisted in a couple of dangerous attacks - not many, but our other midfielders didn't create much more.

Didn´t read all the posts here, but one thing imo is being overlooked is Leo change of tactics in the second half, that imo won the game for us.

We were playing as always with:

--------------Pirlo--------------

-----Seedorf----------Ambro----

In the second half he changed to it to give Pirlo and Seedorf more freedom:

-------------Ambro--------------

------Seedorf-----------Pirlo-----

That's true! I noticed that in the second half. I think it's a very gung ho move, and I don't expect to see it every day. But i'm glad to know that Leo thinks its an option. I have a feeling this will actually be our standard tactic once Beckham arrives:

----------Ambro
Beckham--------Pirlo

With Flamini and Gattuso coming on late to end the game.

But Pirlo and Seedorf really shone when given the time and space. I doubt we'll find that against Chievo, so maybe we should focus on Borri making the space for Pato and R80 as we did early in the season.

But man, Nesta and Thiago Silva. Wow.

Check out what AS (http://www.milannews.it/?action=read&idnotizia=13115) wrote:

"AC Milan has to thank Real Madrid"

"Of all the good things that can happen at Milan this year (if happen), this victory for the Rossoneri will have to thank the Real. No merit in the Spanish press for the team of Leonardo, in fact, the credit would only be a real undertone. Pirlo's shot is defined as "unlikely" as if it were the result of luck and ingenuity of Brescia, usually this type of claim. "Italians have felt so young," always referring to the average age of AC Milan, despite the fact that the shotgun who wrote the (ex?) Galacticos was effected by a newly 20 year old boy. "Real Madrid revives the worst Milan", title Marca. Surely, the Spanish will learn not to underestimate than an Italian team. For class and style after a defeat, there will be time.

Anyways, thought the last sentence was great. Really think these pricks got what they deserved.

I think a fair amount of what I have to say has been said by Brasileiro and nefremo. Anyway, this game is definitely a credit to Leo, who managed to reshape the side according to the opponent and made the Borriello sub which was of great importance. This week is also the first sign that Leo is finally finding the balance he's been looking for since starting over the summer, and getting a little consistency with the system he's applying.

The first half was a fairly timid affair from both sides. We were poor, struggling to get the ball out of our half and not creating anything. Real, despite doing all the attacking, weren't able to create a concrete chance. There were really only two episodes to note in the half, with Zambrotta getting very lucky after a stupid challenge on Benzema in the box and Dida then making ammends for the refs mistake by fumbling the ball on the most simple catch.

In the second half we shifted emphasis to gain greater balance. With Ambro coming centrally and doing what Lass did for Real, we had solidity in the middle, with Pirlo moving to the left to do what Seedorf did and Seedorf moving further right to support Pato, meaning Pato could come in more and threaten Real's goal more. Leo made a very smart move throughout the match by having Ambro man mark Kaka, which prevented Kaka from really getting into the match.

We still needed a little luck and a great strike from Pirlo for the first goal, but then we were all over Real and it definitely looked like our game. Real found a weakness in our defence down the right and were looking to take advantage, but Oddo just about managed and Nesta stepped in when he couldn't. In reality, what annoyed me was there was no support for Oddo from midfield. At times it Pato did come back, but really I think it was Seedorf's duty to support Oddo more.

Borriello's introduction added a new dimension to our game. His movement and ability to drag players out of position was vital for Pato to get space and on both of Pato's goal Borri's movement was really useful. In addition, with Borri coming on and the midfield changing shape, we finally saw players running from deep past the more advanced players (who in turn make space and options for them). We don't do this enough which is one reason we're so predictable, so it's good to see us doing it effectively.

Running through the players...

Dida - Mixed game. He fumbled and made mistakes, but a couple of good stops can't be denied.
Oddo - Was solid on the whole. He needs to learn to play the ball out better rather than just punt the ball aimlessly and giving it straight to opponents.
Nesta - thank god we have him
Thiago - Very solid at the back
Zambro - Poor challenge in the first half almost cost us. Little action otherwise
Ambro - Excellent. Marked Kaka out, solid on the ball and assisted Pato well
Seedorf - An excellent game, was everywhere and was great on the ball. I feel he should have supported Oddo more, but brilliant otherwise
Pirlo - Not his best game, besides the goal he struggled throughout. He did improve a lot after the goal though
Dinho - Didn't really add much.
Pato - Clinical and dangerous, he was a nightmare for Marcelo
Pippo - did nothing, rightly subbed
Borriello - his movement was key and it allowed us to build better attacks. A part of me regrets not getting Dzeko more, as he's not too different but better. However, back to reality and Borri deserves to start in Verona.

Most of all Leo deserves credit as he tactically did very well. He's been slated since starting the job, but I think he's got the ability to do well. He seems to be getting the balance he wants finally, but he needs time still.

Some important things

- What the hell Leo is doing with Huntelar?

- Why would you play a pathetic loser like d!da :googly: when you have Roma

- Ronaldinho needs to wake up

- Borrie can play as a winger type forward, so he should be given more chance

- Oddo can be a useful RB for this season

- ACM must get G.Rossi in the next transfer window. iMagine Pato - Huntelar - Rossi in a 4-3-3 formation, awsome. Villareal is struggling big times so it a very good time to get Rossi. He is our missing link upfront

Finally,

SUCK IT UP REAL MADRID,

YOU MAY HAVE MORE TROPHIES,

BUT AC MILAN IS THE B3ST :3band:

Thats Dida's problem and something I just cannot understand , he will save a 100 mpr shot from 10 yards but will do whatever the hell he did last night at least once in every other game. I remember Roma playing for Monaco he is not unlike Cudicini a solid keeper who I have not seen make many mistakes , granted I only catch the top French games on Setanta and highlights on Eurogoals.

In the system that we played both second halfs, beckham will be great addition to the system!!! He could pay on the right and also in the middle pushing Pirlo on the left.

If only in the winter we could get a solid FB, hernanes and the already done deal Becks...than we could really challenge for the CL.

I feel sorry for Dida, because sometimes he really playes wonderfull and makes a handfull of saves, even if he made a howler yesterday he still played awsome for the rest of the game, intercepting allot of dangerous balls. But he cant play anymore for us,we need a goalkeeper who the team can trust, and Dida isnt that guy,one day he will be man of the match, and the other day he will be the loser of the day.......

Roma is a better choice, even though Roma will NEVER be the goalkeeper Dida was/is,he at least doesnt make stupid howlers and he is pretty decent.

for me Leo shouldn't be too happy about the win in Madrid, coz it can go either way, Real dominated the game and it is quite clear that Milan midfield wasn't visible on the night, every time Real charged, they reached our Danger area, Milan did got a lot from the win, but question still be asked about Leo tactics, and what he want to do with Huntelaar, if he don't want to give him playing time then why he brought him????

I thought the midfield did relatively ok. We were overrun when we tried to play it safe, but when we pressed and attacked Real we dominated. I think Leo is still finding his balance tactically, but at least we can see progress.

Leo didn't particularly want Huntelaar, and wanted Dzeko or L.Fabiano (both of which would make a lot of sense, especially Dzeko). Unfortunately, it's difficult to see how Huntelaar will fit at Milan, as right now he doesn't seem suited for what we're trying to achieve. Anyway, maybe we'll see improvement as he settles.

Like I said before the game, as long as Milan kept possessions, Real can't do anything, as they will only Lass, and he is the only ball battler for them in Midfield.
Personally, if I were coaching Real, with all the attacking power upfront, I will really put the two Diarras in the middle to stop all attack. But glad Real is coaching by a not so good coach.

Milan did played well and Dida must be buying dinner for the whole team, as he really costed Milan the game with his butter fingers.

Dinho showed bits of his brilliance but those are only good enough for youtube and not a real game.

TO me, the Pirlo shot was the difference, how he does not shoot that more often is beyond me.

T.Silva is really the key to this whole Milan defense, as he is just a beast in the air. Rewatch the match and you will see that he almost cleared all corners from Real.

One last thing, I really would not get carry away and think about CL final just yet. Although this team could beat any team in any given night, but they are also a team that could lose to team like Zurich on a pretty consistent basis. I think Milan true weakness is the inability to beat small teams, due to lack of attacking options(Dinho is a non factor, Seedorf will become SLOWDORF and Pirlo is useless b/c the other team camp out inside their half=no room for his passing), also the midfield lacks pace to cover ground when other teams counter.

Has Ligue 1 suddenly improved ??
Lyon seems to be back at a very good level and Bordeaux is very solid, even at the European level this year ...

Liverpool 1-2 Lyon (first with 9 points)
Bordeaux 2-1 Bayern (first with 7 points)

These 2 French clubs will be difficult to beat (for Marseille, they will be beaten by ... us, and why not, they will maybe beat Madrid ?! :D).

Despite these excellent results for French clubs (it was a long time since the 3 clubs won their game the same day, that maybe never happened ... and two of them beat a big club), people keep talking about our win over Madrid !! This victory just gave us some credibility again !!

not to mention this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-B2-EvmLoo

From last night on Sky Italia Kaka gave an Interview he said

“I am only disappointed Pato did so well tonight against my team!” grinned Kaka on Sky Italia television.

an then Oddo said

"Kakŕ? Probabilmente stasera ha pensato perché non sono rimasto a Milan?”

Which if my Italian is correct says something along the lines of
Kaka? he probably thinks why didnt i stay at Milan?

His Passion will never be the same. He loved Milan, he thought he would get the same playing for RM but i think he realizes he is only a $ sign for that club nothing else. He was loved by players fans and Milan itself.

It's very sad indeed, especially when Madrista's are saying something like that. Kaká a waste of money? That's laughable. It's so sad that he plays in a club that doesn't appreciate his talents, and who's fans are both ruthless and only interested in glamour.

Admitedly I havn't catched the last couple of Real Madrid games, but I saw the first few, and Cristiano Ronaldo might have scored quite a few goals there, but make no mistake, Kaká was by far the best player in those games I saw. Cristiano Ronaldo was actually playing rather embarresing in the first couple of games, even though he did score, a couple of goals. Apparently he has started playing better, but all this crap about Kaká not playing well in Madrid is rediculess, at least based on the first couple of games, and it makes me sad that he plays in a club with fans that can't recognise his talents, in Milan he was loved by everyone, I can't believe he could leave that.

Also talking about Real Madrid, I don't think Benzema will last another year there if he keeps playing like he does. Maybe we should consider picking up whatever players fall of from that club, I have no problem with that, Inter have gotten their best players that way.

My 2 cents :

I was very pleased with the result and the match was great but I can't say I'm convinced with our performance.
Real Madrid is not a superb team, great attack no doubt but their central midfield and defence is not that great. With more speed on the wings we could have hurt them so much more. It's still very clear we lack something/someone in our midfield, we play the ball backwards far too much and eventhough we have players like Seedorf,Ronnie and Pirlo who are technically very gifted, they alwas play a long ball forward towards Pato. I'd like to see more passes over the ground, more speed and agility, no one can pass their man it seems to me.

Our defence was good, Oddo had a shocker, great match. Nesta and Thiago formed a solid duo, no way through.

My ratings :

Dida: He shows his reflexes are still out of this world but he lacks so much confidence, so sad to see. 4.0
Oddo: Suprised me, had Marcelo and Kaka in his pocket more than a few times. He did give the ball away too easy sometimes. 7.5
Nesta : No comment. 9.5
Thiago S : Good in the air, fast, looked a bit nervous in the beginning though. 8.0
Zambrotta :Very poor in defending, bad challenge on Benzema which should have been a penalty, but he did make some good runs forward. 5.5
Ambrosini : Invisible but hard working, helped a lot in defending and showed some good skill on the ball. 8.5
Seedorf : Great performance, made some good passes and crosses, kept his cool and taunted the Real defence several times. 9.0
Pirlo : Pretty invisible, did some good work in defence but lost the ball a lot in midfield. A 7.0, for his goal.
Dinho : Was OWNED by Sergio Ramos. Made 1 action all night, but it has to be said he was always surrounded by at least 2 white shirts. 5.0
Pato : I feel he had a lot of trouble getting past Marcelo, who seems to have improved his defending A LOT. Got better in the second half and scored 2 important goals. 7.5
Pippo : Not his match. 4.0
Borriello : I was glad he got the chance as he is a lot stronger than Huntelaar, exactly what we need up front. Didn't really get much time to prove himself though. 6.0
Flamini : /

Yep, everything you said.

I didn´t even know he was working with BBC when I download some torrents to game that I lost. I was very impressed by his vison of the game...
excellent comments Brasileiro:
- finally brilliant comment about Dinho vs Raul...every single word :)

cheers mate
Thanks, LebRN...
Regarding Dida, I said it last season, that imo his cycle at Milan is finished. But let´s be fair, Storari would not have stoped that shot by Alonso. Also, that shot by De Rossi. As I said, he doesn´t have more confidence to be a Milan keeper, but to see some guy(not for you) wanting Roma in his place is hilarious. Anyone remember TIM trofeu?

Thanks, nefremo...
Btw, thats a great point(Borrielo performance) that I also overlooked. Spot on!!!

Great post also, Christian...
I really remember when you bring this Pirlo change of role in the mid points to MM. Maybe Leo read your post... :)

Kaka' didnt left Milan, he was sold! Just to mention it...

Kaka DID leave. If he had REALLY wanted to stay Milan wouldn't have sold him. It was a mutual thing...he was ready for a new challenge plus more money. And they sold him because they could get tons for him.

There are the declaration of Massimo Oddo, in the end of Real Madrid-Milan 2-3:

"In a competition like the one of this evening , was important the effort of everyone: even the people that stay close to us in dressroom and the day before the match. We are really satisfied, It’s the first time Milan won at Real Madrid. We came into this match while we’re going through a positive patch after the home win over Roma".

"Dida? In football you can make a mistake, doesn't win who is perfect, but who makes less mistakes. About ranking list in our Group, it was fundamental not to lose and we managed to climb back to the top of the standings and we didn't deserve to lose against Zurich".

"We are happy and glad, we were in control throughout the game and never suffered, here in Real Madrid house. When they scored the advantage goal, we didn't give up and kept attacking".

"We would be always happy to hear the fans support like this evening. Kakŕ? Probably he must have wondered why he didn’t stay at Milan?”

Dude, Oddo was not even on the MIlan team last year. On top of that, I would take any of the players comments too seriously in regards to other players.

I thought Ambrosini was excellent with his marking of Kaka. He was never very close to Kaka but you could see that he made sure that any pass to kaka would be intercepted. Also, in terms of organization, I thought Real were a complete mess. You saw Kaka sometimes find himself overlapping with Marcelo and Grenero. I could not figure what position he was playing at. Very poor teamwork, I'd say, from Real Madrid. I'd like to think that he was deliberately playing poorly.

Remember, we scored 3 goals from open play and they scored none.

It's "cost," not "costed." "Costed" is not an actual word.

Funny, cos you wrote on your last post prior to this that you didn't feel like talking and that everyone should leave you alone.

It was rude because Gabriel was talking about the player and what actually had happened on the pitch. He didn't say anything about you.

There are many members here whose first language is not English so grammatical errors here and there are normal, as long as we can get his/her point.

After all, it's a football forum, not a linguist forum.

Just to elaborate on my previous post, I thought Ambrosini's positioning sense was awesome. He proved that pace is not the main thing a defensive midfielder needs. His assist for the last goal was godlike just like the assist he provided to Gila against Manure.

I dont know,i always liked Ambrosini because of his workrate and pace.He always gives his all,and you cant say that of all the players we have.

Also Brasileiro, yes i want Roma in goal and Dida on the stands(not even bench). If you make such a howler like he did in one of the most important matches of the season then you are truly A DISGRACE!Yes he did stopped some good shots for Alonso and Kaka, but still that doesnt make up for the howler he made in the first half.

I rather have a goalkeeper who hasnt better reflexes but who i can trust that he isnt going to do something.....stupid.

For me,Seedorf was MOTM.

Give Dida a break, ok, he made a clumsy mistake, but did you look at all the other saves he made?? he was amazing except for the two occasions which resulted in goals...he is better than roma.Madrid had more shots on goal, remember that.

I disagree. Had Dida made errors that most goalkeepers on an off-night make, it would be understandable. I agree that people are always ready to pounce on Dida for every error, but against Real he did the simple things wrong...you know, like picking up a ball.

His errors are extremely clumsy and comical. That is what makes this so infuriating. He really needs to be shown the door.

and lets not forget the amount of money he gets to be our 3rd goalie..
lets face it he is not the keeper he used to be,he doesnt deserve the money he gets, and he doesnt deserve playing at this level..

Given this win, and the win against Roma, how do people feel we build on this? What is it about these games that we need to take and refine to try and make the side competitive?

I do have thoughts of my own, but I'm curious to see the opinions of others before I give my own.

I've just read all posts after mine, and I got a couple of things to comment:

1. I think that Brasiliero made a mistake in a formation we played in the second half.
First half was standard Carlo's midfield three, but with Ambrosini on the right, strange cause Carlo never played him on the right, cause right is "defending side" and that way Ambro's attacking potential would be lost, at least Carlo thought that way. But that's not the point here.
In the second half, Leonardo moved both Ambro and Pirlo to the left, so they formed a duo, with Seedorf in front of them. This way:

------Ambrosini--------Pirlo------------
---------------------------------------
---------------Seedorf-----------------

I think it was like this, Ambro and Pirlo seemed in the line to me, and Seedorf was surely in the middle. This is better, cause Pirlo is first to the defence just like he played before and Seedorf is more upfront in a position which suits him best. This will be even better when Gattuso comes back as he's no use in attack at all, so the deeper he plays the better. Flamini also.

2. I didn't saw anyone mention Borriello's BIG part in the winning goal. When you look closely it was Borriello who stepped in a middle to free Pato on the right. Borriello doesn't seem to does anything individually, but he does a LOT for the team.

Well I think the two wins against Real Madrid and Roma showed a lot of character from the team. When they give everything they have, then they can truely perform magic. But funny as it sounds, I think the real test will be against Chievo. Can the team perform when the whole world aren't watching?

The good thing is that Leonardo has started to experiment with the system, and perhaps has found a winning formula in the 4-3-3 with Pirlo and Seedorf infront of a DM. But again the match against Chievo will truely show if this system is the one to build on, and if it can work against a side that doesn't play as open as Real Madrid or Roma.

I can't stress how important a win against Chievo is, and a comfortable win. If we don't get a result there then the Real win and the Roma win will be forgotten in no time and we'll have to start over.

Storari is out for a month, so we have to hope that somebody will handle the crosses that Dida will misudge, and clear the shots he will fumble.

And yes, Benzema plays below his level, but he is a class player. I doubt he'll be gone from Madrid any time soon.

come on for god sake enough of this talk. galliani and berlusconi are the devils but kaka aint this saint. if he did not wanna leave no body would force him out, man city offered him 16 mil a year. i mean come on, i really think kaka was the one asked to be trasnfered because if it was about money, he would moved to madrid.

just a week after his transfer. his wife said that it was a sign from god to move to mardrid.

he is no different then any other player.( just wondering why god would give kaka a sign?)

My god, finally a match to make us Milan fans proud. In the end this is what it's about, the team with the right spirit---grit, determination, and sheer will can prevail, even against the odds. I think players like Seedorf and Oddo deserve a lot of credit. These were players that weren't even guaranteed starting places when the season started. More so, Oddo was told to find another club. And for them to play their hearts out like this is amazing. Only in a club like Milan...

As for what Dev brought up, I think they're lots of things to take from the previous 2 games:

1) We finally have a set formation. The 4-3-3 is working wonders and allowing both Pato and Dinho to show their potential. What we need now is a good attacking left or right back to ease the pressue on our strikers and allow Pato/Dinho to drift inwards.

2) I quite like having Pirlo playing left or right of midfield. It does 2 things at once. One, it allows link-up play with our left/right forwards and wingbacks, and two, it makes our central midfield more solid, because a pure DM like Ambro, Rino, or Flamini cover way more ground than Pirlo can ever do.

And about the "Didaster". Fact is he is not worthy of a starting shirt. There's no 2 ways about it. BUT, people keep forgetting that he only started this game because both our starting keepers were injured---Abbiati to a long-term injury, and Storari recently injured. For all those who say start Roma ahead of Dida, you've got to be nuts. Roma has never played a competitive game for us before and has no idea as to how our defenders play. To throw him into such a big game when you have an experienced player (2 CL's) like Dida is crazy. Now that Dida has proven even less reliable, maybe now Leo can think about putting Roma in his place, but his decision before both the Roma and Real games were spot on.

People keeping whining about Dida's salary. But it is not his fault that he's payed so well. If anything we have to blame Galliani for giving him such a great contract when his performance was sliding down. If I were him, I'd sit tight and collect my pay as well..

yes we should move on, but this is no reason to change the facts! fact is that our MGT wanted kaka to be sold for big money, kaka wanted to stay!

And kaka couldnt be forced out if he wanted to stay? he wanted to stay, but why wouldnt he go to madrid as his team wants him out and a big team like real comes up, a team where he IS wanted!

well 9 mil, air tickets, two houses and 3 cars and 1 mil diago contract didnot convience his agent and father to stop bugging for a new contract. let us see how it goes in madrid.

kaka wanted to leave. we needed money for the "books". perez is a friend of ours he proposed and we accepted, player sold.

Thanks to those who answered my questions. As for my opinion, I think Leo needs to build on what he's begun with the system. He's built foundations for a strong attacking game using 4-3-3, which he now must look to build on. It's imperative he looks to get the balance in midfield, getting good support for the forwards but also a structure that's defensively stable. This could vary from match to match, but ultimately, players must understand the fundamental mechanisms (Pato is finally making more runs towards goal now and it's paying off, but this is just one mechanism and many more still need working on).

Leo should also persist with an attacking Milan imo. He won a lot of plaudits for his bravery against Real and I think he must be willing to take these big decisions. It is risky, but as he once said, this Milan is built to attack rather than defend.

He also must analyze where we're making mistakes. Against both Roma and Real we had individual lapses which cost us. Leo must make sure players stay well concentrated when playing, so that we can avoid such episodes. The other problem is set pieces. The players give opponents too much space and must be more alert to threats.

Last, but most importantly, I think we need to take the confidence and motivation we showed against Roma and Real and try to maintain it. Mentally, when players really work hard as a team for each other and have confidence to pick out key passes, then we improve a huge amount. Most of all I think this week has been important for us to build unity and confidence and we simply cannot let it go.

real madrid should have got ancelotti too... kaka+ancelotti for 100 mil aint a bad deal :D, anyways the last thing money can buy is success. i feel for kaka he is at the wrong place, he will have to pack back at the age 30,31. he is a professional but in madrid everything has a price and an age off course except for raul
