She has already confessed and apologised, why should the society shut all doors on her?” he told The Star in a telephone interview. On Wednesday, Wanita MCA said the movement was “totally against” the idea of Chu staging her performance in Kuala Lumpur and called on the Home Ministry to reject her application. The movement chief, Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen had said Wanita MCA did not want the young people here to be influenced by Chu whom she described as an unfit role model. Power said even a criminal is given a chance, adding that some of the shows were aimed to raise funds for charitable organisations and the charity factor was the main reason Chu agreed to perform in Singapore and Malaysia. In Kuala Lumpur, the organisers had tried to book the Gerakan headquarters in Cheras to stage the concert after the MCA headquarters rejected the application. However, others had booked the hall. J-Music executive director Danny Liew said they would go through normal procedure and most importantly they would obtain the licence or permit to stage the concert from the relevant authorities. “We have passed it (application) to our agent,’’ he said in a telephone interview yesterday. “The dates for Chu’s concert in Kuala Lumpur and Penang will tentatively be on March 23 and 24. So far there is no indication from the immigration department pertaining to the permit issue,’’ he said, adding that the concerts could also be held at hotel ballrooms. Chu has recently published a book entitled the Confession of Chu Mei-Feng just two months after a maga- zine released the secretly filmed VCD. |
