Mr Edwards.. Your´previous 2 posts have only helped to confirm the theory about "Janteloven" and the inferiority complex I was talking about..

Now let´s leave this ok?

This is the jantelaw (from a norwegian site:

In 1933 the Danish writer Aksel Sandemose wrote a novel called "A refugee crosses his tracks". It takes place in an imaginary town called Jante (based on Sandemose's own hometown, Nykbing Mors) in which the Jante Law clearly dictates the social and moral standards. The law has, unfortunately, a larger geographic relevance.

You shall not think that you are special.

You shall not think that you are of the same standing as us.

You shall not think that you are smarter than us.

Don't fancy yourself as being better than us.

You shall not think that you know more than us.

You shall not think that you are more important than us.

You shall not think that you are good at anything.

You shall not laugh at us.

You shall not think that anyone cares about you.

You shall not think that you can teach us anything.

Interesting, that is the rule that governs much of Sweden, we call it "Jantelagen"... (who was Jante? translate: "Law of Jante") It is really as stupid thing as it only tells people to be nobodies and keep being that. I could rant on with this as within it lies many of the weaknesses of Swedes.
And Denmark..

Btw. Mr. Edwards.. Wasn´t Aksel Sandemose norwegian?

Ok I confused some things.. He was born in Nykøbing M in 1899, moved to Norway in 1930 and released his books in norwegian.. Like the one you´re mentioning: "En flyktning krysser sitt spor" - "A refugee crosses his tracks".

don't think you are something and certainly don't think you can learn us something... what was it more? Yes, don't think you are good at anything.

it's the climate that brings out that part in us, but as much as possible I would say scandinavians is one of the most fun loving people in the world.... or maybe it is just my family and friends. At any rate I believe scandinavians in general are more lighthearted and open to jokes in all forms. If there was one people that would beat us there it would be the English (maybe extented to British?) I could say that only from the times I speak with englishmen on phone that they are lighthearted and generally nice.

Maybe the other Swedes can tell me if this only applies to the people I know, for when I think about it many Swedes I don't know that well seems dull and boring and not particulary lighthearted.

Nah kris, I would say the Irish (well, the Southeners) are more easy going than the British...I mean, consider this: at my last job, a woman working for a Dublin firm phoned us demanding to know where a shipment that we had promised her was (it never actually left the yard....). It was our fault, we simply forgot . By the end of the phone conversation she was very happy and grateful that we would be delivering it to her the next week, and we were all her best friends. Now that's easy going....

Well then I was right to guard myself by putting British into the equation. yes I know the Irish are not British, but my limited mind sort you nicely with them.
