Amien.

buat fresh graduate gampang nggak yaa
The unemployment rate here is high. The last I heard it was 90,000 ppl unemployed. The number may be rising because companies (in some sectors) are still retrenching. There is no longer such a thing called 'an iron rice bowl'. Therefore for new graduates, they not only have to compete with the other fresh graduates but also those with working experience but who are currently unemployed. It also depends on what area of studies you did and where you got your qualifications. There are some universities where the degrees are not recognised by the Government. For instance, you may have a degree from the local university in your country but it could only be equivalent to a diploma here.

If you are in the nursing or medical profession or interested in teaching then the future, I believe, is bright. In contrast, the country, I think, is saturated with lawyers; recently, lawyers were also retrenched. There have been instances where fresh graduates took up to a year to get a job. If you wish to apply for a job in (some) sectors, you will stand a better chance if you possess a degree with a 2nd class honours (min)from 'respectable' university. If you can afford it, stay in school and get that Master degree.

Really, Nat? I've been considering and reconsidering about taking up postgraduate studies next year myself. Been asking around for opinions, and got mixed responses from people.

Some seem to think that postgrad is only useful if you want to be an academic?? Now how true that is..., I'm not too sure.
Anyone first first hand (or not) experience cares to enlighten me here?

With reference to Singapore, the economy is presently sluggish and since the job market is bad, many fresh graduates choose to do their postgraduate studies instead of looking for jobs. The emphasis here, in this country, is on life long learning (ia itu 'ilmu sepanjang hayat') and knowledge based economy, which means ppl are encouraged to continuously upgrade their skills. So we have ppl or workers studying parttime for their diplomas, diploma holders studying part time for their degrees and those who had already possessed degrees, doing their postgraduate studies. Do you get my drift? You have to understand of course that a piece of ppr is not everything; in the end, it will be the man and not his string of qualifications. IMO, the ppr is just a stepping stone. As to being an academic, it depends largely on which institution you're referring to. From what I understand, if it is the Uni, to lecture will require a doctorate.

Yang model gini sih dimana-mana sama dong.
Liat-liat posisi dari lowongannya.
Masak lowongan sekretaris di Pertamina mesti Master?
Masak mau jadi sekuriti harus Master?

eh sorry kalau kedengeran kampungan lagi

Kalau iya, sorry deh

Soal gelar, di Indonesia, ya macam2 dong.
Untuk S1, tergantung disiplin ilmunya.
Hukum, SH
Teknik, ST
Ekonomi, SE
Sosial, S.Sos
Politik, SIP
Kedokteran, S.Ked
Farmasi, SF
dan lain sebagainya...

Untuk S2, juga tergantung jurusannya.
Untuk managemen, MM
Teknik, MT
Sosial, MSos
Demikian seterusnya.
