Greece losing is a joke, maybe the success at the Euros got to their head.

The notable result for me is Italy and apparently it was a good performance as well

I will try to post some other groups standings as the games go on.

The Serbia and Montenegro result is probably of some interest here
Whats wrong with Belgium? As far as NTs go Belgium is one of the teams that I follow and like but they are really poor these days...

hey i'm really glad italy actualy won and played a good game at the same time!

who knew they would beat norway?and without all of the stars?

although i'm 100% italian i still thought italy would suffer(and they did in the first 5 min.)

Althought they did struggle at first, Lippi told them to stay calm and thats what they did.

Good to see De Rossi scoring. I expect to see more of him in years to come.

I think Italy benefited missing the "stars". For some reason when they play for Italy, they all act like pre madonnas and I believe this is one of the Italy sides biggest faliures in recent years (not to say that a manager like Trap doesn't deserve most of the blame though).

I was disappointed by Ukraine, they gave Sheva one good ball in 45 minutes: actually i watched just the second half of denmark-ukraine, but i thought they were better side. The tactic was long ball hoping in a magical play of the King of the Black Sea.

Denmark instead keep playing a free flowing and choral football, involving all the players. Very good!

I agree Dev. I have a good feeling about Lippi though. So far he seems to have picked the best players for the moment over the standard (Trap) selection.

Expect Ireland to get through in group 4. we have a great group of players we won 3 nil yesterday against cyrus creating 30 goal scoring chances. in recent friendlies we have drawn with brazil and beaten the czech republic an holland. andy reid (yesterday was his 1st competive match he wa man of match and scored a great goal, overall he has played 10 matches for ireland, 2 goals and 3 times man of match) and damian duff create havoc out on the wings. robbie keane at 24 yesterday equalled our all time scoring record. and ROY KEANE is back. he didnt play yesterday because of broken ribs but he is playing wednesday against the swiss away. They and france who drew 0-0 at home to irasel yesterday are there for the taking. irasel could be a suprise package though.

Also as regards italy glad to see they won yesterday, hope they qualify in style and have a good showing in the world cup following the euro 2004 debacle.
Also how is matterazzi still in the side!?

I guess Albania is the team to beat these days

I said it before in the Euro2004 thread, Greece will find it very difficult to win with those tactics when they now are considered "favourits".

What a game by David James! What a blunder!
Commentators of Eurosport : James got new nickname : "Calamity James"!
