If we want to get beyond the "political" and personal aspect:

Absolutely nothing is changed except the nominal "title" of President. Silvio Berlusconi is still the main owner of Milan and calls the shots. He will make the major decisions and Galliani will execute them for him.

His resignation is only a result of a new regulation prohibiting Government officials from having "conflict of interest" titles with private companies. In one word, it means nothing, and whoever the new Milan president is, he will only be Berlusconi's valet.

As to his involvement with AC Milan in general, we must all admit he has the guts, the money, and the passion to improve the team.

The above is not a comment on his politics, which are debatable, nor on his personality ( I believe he was involved in a few shady deals in his past - so have been most millionaires and power brokers in this world).

Milan can and will continue to win for we have some of the best players in the world, plus dedicated fans.

Happy New Year to all.

Berlusconi steps down

Italy Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has stepped down as Milan president following almost 20 years at the helm.

Berlusconi, who has been in charge of the club since 1986, was forced to resign his post to comply with a new law on conflicts of interest.

During Berlusconi's reign Milan have won the UEFA Champions League four times along with winning the Scudetto a stunning seven times.

The former Rossoneri supremo revealed his sadness at having to leave the job he loved.

"Of course I'm sad. I'm very sad," he said.

"In any case, in the years I've been president, I've won more than anybody else in the world - in international championships, that is."

Milan legend Paolo Maldini stated that the club was more to Berlusconi than just a business venture.

"It will have been a very painful decision for Berlusconi even if stepping down as president does not mean abandoning the team completely," said Maldini.

"I am sure he will always be close to us. For Berlusconi, Milan is not a company to make money but an affair of the heart."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

does anyone know what this will mean for the club?

well, we're like the 3rd richest team on the planet whatever happens. not rich in the chelsea, mad billionaire chairmen way, rich in the pure income that we pull in. though Silvio occasionally splashed out for a big player (rui costa was very much due to his cash injection), something which we'll not get to do now.

but overall I think it's a good thing, he was critisizing carlo and awful lot about this 2 strikers thing. now he can't, he has no place complaining about the team.

Well, you mean just a "a Berlusconi-less Milan" or rather "a Berlusconi's-Money-less Milan"? Your joyful claim sounds to me quite hypocrisy.

BTW, AC Milan official website just makes it all very clear "The owners remain Fininvest".(Belu's holding company, which finances Milan's big signings and helps Milan with its finanical book balance.)

Josh's post has very well said what I want to say. Without Belu's "stink" money, without Belu's gut, without Belu's vision, Milan is NOWHERE close to what it is today. Thank you, President!

Is Piersilvio Berlusconi taking over his dad as Milan's president ? Or is it Galliani?

Without Berlusconi Milan today would be like Fiorentina or maybe Napoli. Thanks Silvio.

However he will still be putting 'his money' in the club. As president it will be descided in the club's AGM next April, favourite is Galliani, but his son PierSilvio is one of the candidate.

I love it when the Internet kids pretends to know things they have no idea about. Judging people they don't know and don't even live in the same country as.

as much as i dislike berlusconi as a politician, i respect him as a soccer president. it is bitter sweet for me - sweet because someone i dislike is not the president of the club i absolutley adore, and bitter for me because he was president for as long as i can remember and brought so much to our beloved club.

So out of respect I will say thank you Mr. President for all you have done.

(reality is, nothing will change if piersilvio is the new pres)

My god!!!

I cant see a good thing about the man who brought back milan to the big stage , sure he has hsi own style but nothing will change his place in the rossonero aura.

It's a pitty i'm shocked , i just want to say that he'll always be close to us and we'll always be close to him.

Forza Milan!!!!

I really don't know the result of your serious and intelligent investigation about Berlusconi's corruption, which I believe even the Italian magistrates feel jealous for your state of the art investigation as they cannot find him guilty as you did, but please do not include us all to your findings.
I DO NOT KNOW that Berlusconi is corrupt! May be because I am stupid and my intelligence is only 1 step ahead of a monkey. I.e. I never make judgement on other persons on what I heard, but only on facts

There's no reason to suspect that there can't be run a business out of Milan even without Berlu's cash injections. Financial reorganization and other changes but I have faith in that the club would survive nevertheless.

Imho it won't hurt the Club's image not to be associated with Berlusca and his billions. The question is what would you do without them.

He didn't present it as a opinion, he presented it as a "all know fact". That is a big difference.
fine... then enjoy this
