Jeff, I dont consider Ancelotti as being "all that bad" a coach, I just have a difference of opinion insofar as his team selection is concerned, and not all the time, but quite often.
Statistics bear me out in terms of who is a more winning coach...but I agree with you 110% that a coach has to select the team lineup/ substitute that he thinks will deliver the result. Many in this forum will know that I tend to be very critical of coaches that I feel are inadequate to coach "my club" and "Zaccerphony" I am sure would consider me his worst enemy if he ever read some of my posts during his tenure at Milan. I subscribe to the belief that the surest way to win a match is not necessarily in preventing the opponent from scoring, even though that is an element that must be kept in mind, but in out-scoring the opponent, and looking to score at every opportunity...there is nothing wrong with defending a 2 goal lead, but we must first establish that lead. With a bunch of defensive minded players, that is less likely to happen than if there are goal getters or creative players on the pitch...thats my point... If Carlo thinks that putting on Ambro will give us the goal that we need, while taking Vikash off, then he as coach is correct to make that move...since he in essence kept the balance of the team by putting on Seedorf...the unfortunate result though was that Clarence forgot to wear his goal scoring boots, and indeed, Carlo would have looked the genius if Clarence had come on and scored, instead of kicking a sitter over the bar....
